  • Problems with executing shell script within oracle procedure

    I have procedure that's owned by Semantic user. This procedure calls job scheduler (owned by USER1) which in turn executes a shell script load_semantic.sh (owned by USER1).
    Now, there is a shell script(checkCount.sh)inside of this one (owned by this USER1) that has following contents:
    checkCount.sh
    #!/bin/bash
    MODEL=$1
    sqlplus -S user/pass << EOF
    whenever sqlerror exit 1;
    set echo on
    set verify off
    MERGE INTO SEMANTIC.COUNT_STATISTICS s
    USING (SELECT '$MODEL' AS MODEL, 0 AS NEW_COUNT, SYSDATE AS NEW_DATE, 0 AS OLD_COUNT, SYSDATE AS OLD_DATE FROM dual) t
    on (s.MODEL = t.MODEL)
    when not matched then
    INSERT (s.MODEL, s.NEW_COUNT, s.NEW_DATE, s.OLD_COUNT, s.OLD_DATE)
    VALUES (t.MODEL, t.NEW_COUNT, t.NEW_DATE, t.OLD_COUNT, t.OLD_DATE);
    COMMIT;
    UPDATE SEMANTIC.COUNT_STATISTICS SET  MODEL = '$MODEL', NEW_COUNT = (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM TABLE(SEM_MATCH('{?s ?p ?o}',SEM_Models('$MODEL'),NULL,SEM_ALIASES(SEM_ALIAS('','http://VISION/DataSource/SEMANTIC#')),NULL)) ),NEW_DATE  = SYSDATE,
    OLD_COUNT = NEW_COUNT, OLD_DATE  = NEW_DATE WHERE MODEL = '$MODEL' AND NEW_DATE = (select max(NEW_DATE) from SEMANTIC.COUNT_STATISTICS where MODEL = '$MODEL');
    COMMIT;
    exit;
    EOF
    So when I execute SEMANTIC.PROCEDURE:
    SEMANTIC.PROCEDURE => USER1.JOBSCHEDULER =>USER1.load_semantic.sh =>USER1.checkCount.sh
    It never populates the table SEMANTIC.COUNT_STATISTICS.
    I tried giving all of the permissions but I am probably missing something...
    Maybe fresh eyes can see something that I can't.

    I can't believe I am going to say this but the reason it was not working was because I removed oracle environment path from my script by mistake.
    . /etc/profile.d/oracle.sh
    Ugh...
    Now it is working perfectly.
    Btw, sqlplus does know about shell environment variables.
    THANK YOU GUYS!!! YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    I ONLY HAVE YOU TO TALK TO WHEN I AM STUCK ON A PROBLEM.

  • Having problems with a shell script

    I'm trying to write a shell script that will echo back the command, and ask for confirmation before proceeding with the command.
    Here is what I have so far:
    Josh:~ josh$ cat ~/Desktop/safe
    #!/bin/sh
    echo "You have typed: "$1 $2 $3 $4"."
    read -p "Are you sure you want to continue? (y/n)" a
    if [ "$a" = "y" ]; then
    $1 $2 $3 $4
    elif [ "a" = "n" ]; then
    exit
    elif [ "a" != "y" ] [ "a" != "n" ];then
    echo "Type y or n."
    fi
    When I run it, and type n, (y works fine) I get a syntax error: ./safe: line 10: [: too many arguments
    Could you please help me fix it?
    Thanks!
    EDIT: If I change the last "elif" statement to a simple "else", it automatically does that statement anyway when the user types "n".
    Is there any better way to end the script when the user types "n"?

    1. you have "n=$#", but never use n. What is that for?
    Er... because I originally did it differently and then forgot to go back and delete this line!
    2. Why do you set list to a blank string? Just to initialize it?
    Yes. Habit. Sometimes it is an error to use an unassigned variable. It would not matter in this case because echo will not complain, but it still appeals to my sense of logic/tidiness. It also means that if I later change something in my script so that an unassigned variable will cause an error, I won't be stymied by a failure I can't explain. (Not really an issue in a script this short but might well be in a longer script.)
    3. "sed 's+, $+ and all enclosed files/folders+'" What does it do? What is s supposed to do? I know that s treats a string as a single line, but what's the purpose of that (and the +)? $+ would stand for the end of a line, but repeated one or more times. Why have the +'s?
    In this case, s is for substitute. The + is an arbitrary delimeter. A forward slash is standard, but if I use + I don't have to escape the slash in the phrase "and... files/folders". The whole thing says:
    Take the piped output from echo and find every occurrence of the pattern consisting of a comma followed by a space followed by an end of line (on every line of the piped input, but there's only one here). Substitute the first occurrence you find (on every line of the piped input, but there's only one here) with a space followed by "and... files/folders".
    Also, I ideally want the "and all enclosed files/folders" to appear only if there is a recursive option turned on, not all the time. (I guess it would be good enough to have it turn on if there's an r OR R option, because it would be too hard to program it in based on each command).
    To do that properly, you need to do things differently so that you can distinguish between arguments to the command and occurrences of strings in the names of files and folders. For example, you might have a folder named "My Folder-Revised". There are ways of doing this but they are not as simple as the sort of framework you're using here.
    If you are concerned about accidentally deleting files, have you considered using an alias called "rm" for "rm -i". That way, you do not have to remember to use "safe" either. Unfortunately, that won't work for "sudo rm". On the other hand, "sudo safe" won't necessarily work either. Where are you planning to install your script?

    The jar files which were used are downloaded from http://jarfinder.com. Those jars created the problem of displaying those messages on console. I downloaded APIs from apache.org and used them in my application. Now my application is running good.

    Hi,
    Shell script is not supported till Demantra 7.2.0.2 WF.
    I have checked with Oracle team also and reply I got below for your reference:
    QUESTION
    *=========*
    As per your details, shall we conclude like this:
    *"only *.bat and *.exe files can be used in workflow. Demantra standard functionality doe*
    *s not support shell script in workflow"*
    ANSWER
    *=======*
    Hi ,
    The Demantra standard functionality 7.2.0.2 does support shell script in workflow.
    Thanks,
    Asya
    Please review the note#468071.1-Unable to Run EBS Workflows that Call EngineManager.exe in
    You will find this note is referring to the Enhancement Request Bug 6644455-- ANALYTICAL ENGINE
    NOT AVAILABLE ON UNIX/LINUX
    But the enhancement bug exist and I hope it is fixed in Demantra 7.3.

  • Finding path to source executed shell script

    Hello,
    I have shell script A which executes shell script B. The scripts A and B reside in the same directory.
    Following requirements:
    Scripts A and B need to be source executed.
    The directory where A and B resides should be anywhere.
    The present working directory from where A is executed should be anywhere.
    The directory of scripts A and B may not be defined in $PATH.
    The current shell could be any Bourne or Korn shell, Linux or Unix.
    Problem:
    Let's assume scripts A and B are installed in "/custom".
    The users working directory is /home/oracle and he executes "source /custom/A".
    If script A executes "source ./B", the result would be "source /home/oracle/B", which will fail.
    Possible Solution:
    Since script A is being sourced, $0 will always be the name of the current shell and not the name and path to script A.
    I have not found a universal solution to locate the absolute path of a shell script that is being source executed.
    So I was wondering about defining a variable in script A. e.g. SCRIPT_HOME=./custom. When script A executes "source $SCRIPT_HOME/B" it will work, but then script A needs to be customized by the user.
    I could write a script C that edits script A to search and edit the SCRIPT_HOME variable. For this to work I will have to verify that script C is not source executed, and that script A is in the same directory as C based on $0. This is not a problem..
    The question however is whether I need to create script C, or could simply execute script A with -config argument to edit itself and exit. I would prefer the later case and from what I understand, Unix and Linux do not lock files by default and this should be possible.
    Any comments or suggestions please?
    Thanks!
    Edited by: Dude on Apr 5, 2011 3:59 AM

    The $_ solution is actually very simple:
    $ cat thatsme
    mypath=$(dirname $_)
    echo "$mypath/B"
    $ source /home/oracle/thatsme
    /home/oracle/BI do not need the absolute path of script A. The relative path from my current directory will do as well.
    But, it does not work with an alias:
    $ alias thatsme='source /home/oracle/thatsme'
    $ thatsme
    ./B

  • Problem of executing a process under Linux using Runtime.exec

    Hi, All
    I am having a problem of executing a process under Linux and looking for help.
    I have a simple C program, which just opens a listening port, accept connection request and receive data. What I did is:
    1. I create a script to start this C program
    2. I write a simple java application using Runtime.exec to execute this script
    I can see this C program is started, and it is doing what it supposed to do, opening a listening port, accepting connection request from client and receiving data from client. But if I stop the Java application, then this C program will die when any incoming data or connection request happens. There is nothing wrong with the C program and the script, because if I manually execute this script, everying works fine.
    I am using jre1.4.2_07 and running under Linux fedora 3.0.
    Then I tried similar thing under Windows XP with service pack2, evrything works OK, the C program doesn't die at all.

    Mind reading is not an exact science but I bet that you are not processing either the process stdout or the stderr stream properly. Have you read http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html ?

  • Problems with close event scripts and closing Photoshop

    Hi!
    We are having problems with close event scripts ("Cls ") when closing/quitting Photoshop.
    The close event scripts are working without problem when closing an image. But when quitting Photoshop without having closed all images we are observing the following behaviour:
    with CS2 the close event scripts are not triggered at all
    with CS4  the close event scripts are triggered and executed correctly. But after that the Photshop process freezes. No visible GUI, you have to kill the process with the task manager.
    I can reproduce this behaviour even with a small script consisting of a single alert('hello') and even an empty script. Is this an known bug or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Upgraded ROX filer not executing shell scripts

    Hi all,
    I run ICEWM+ROX filer as my lite desktop but after a recent upgrade, ROX does not execute shell scripts on mouse click. It appears that filetype detection has changed so that all scripts are shown with the shellscript icon, whereas before those without a .sh extension where shown with the kde type "cogwheel".
    Any tips much appreciated.
    My thanks in advance!

    I've found a lot of things I don't like about the latest ROX upgrade... too much caching nowadays in my  opinion.

  • Performance problems with jdk 1.5 on Linux plattform

    Performance problems with jdk 1.5 on Linux plattform
    (not tested on Windows, might be the same)
    After refactoring using the new features from java 1.5 I lost
    performance significantly:
    public Vector<unit> units;
    The new code:
    for (unit u: units) u.accumulate();
    runs more than 30% slower than the old code:
    for (int i = 0; i < units.size(); i++) units.elementAt(i).accumulate();
    I expected the opposite.
    Is there any information available that helps?

  • Schedule workbook using with Unix shell script

    Hi,
    Can we schedule workbook using with Unix shell script?
    Thanks,
    Jay

    I can't imagine how.
    1. You can schedule Disco workbooks via Disco itself.
    2. You can schedule Disco workbooks to run and output in different file formats automatically via batch scheduler in Windows running Disco Desktop directly (or can user VBasic).
    3. You can schedule Disco workbooks to run and output in different file formats automatically via a Java program running the Java Command Line interface.
    Moving forward, Oracle has announced that with a further interfacing of Disco with XML Publisher, you'll be able to use Oracle Apps concurrent manager and scheduling. But that's coming supposedly at the end of this year.
    And I think that's about it.

  • Run java shell script on Linux

    Hi I am just trying to convert a Windows batch file to a unix shell script to run a java application, but it so long since Ive used UNIX I cant really remember how to do it.
    My script contains
    #!/bin/sh
    java  -jar lib/testapp.jarThese are my failed attempts to run it, not too sure what the differences are but I think the 3rd one is the only one to actually find my shell script.
    [root@]# testapp.sh
    -bash:  testapp.sh: command not found
    [root@]# ./ testapp.sh
    : bad interpreter: No such file or directory
    [root@]# .  testapp.sh
    Unable to access jarfile lib/testapp.jarif I just do this at the command line it works fine
    [root@]#java  -jar lib/testapp.jar

    #1
    [root@]# testapp.sh
    -bash:  testapp.sh: command not found
    #2
    [root@]# ./ testapp.sh
    : bad interpreter: No such file or directory
    #3
    [root@]# .  testapp.sh
    Unable to access jarfile lib/testapp.jar#1 is because the command (testapp.sh) is not found on the PATH. Under Unix the current directory . is not included automatically in the PATH: it has to be excplicitly specified, and this is a good thing. Also make sure it has the x (executable) switch on: chmod +x  testapp.sh
    #2 is because you had an extra space in what should have been
    ./testapp.sh #3 there you could "inline" the script but the file lib/testapp.jar was appearently not found. Is lib really under the working directory or in other some place?

  • Getting problem when connecting to SMTP server through java code

    Hi all,
    I am getting problem when i am going to connect with "Kerio SMTP server" through java code. The error what i am getting is :
    "[16/Sep/2008 15:59:09] Sent: Queue-ID: 48cf8a73-000000f9, Recipient: <[email protected]>, Result: failed, Status: 5.3.2 554 5.0.0 Too many hops (101, max 100), message looping" when sending an email from [email protected]

    Looks like something is set up wrong on your server that's causing messages
    to be forwarded around a loop too many times without ever reaching the destination.
    For instance, if server A forwards to server B, and server B forwards to server A,
    this would happen.
