Problem with function-based spatial index in 10g

hi,
the document's example doesn't work anymore.
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/appdev.101/b10826/sdo_exten.htm#sthref721
when i try to create the index i get the following error message:
create index LONG_LAT_TABLE_IDX on LONG_LAT_TABLE(get_long_lat_pt(longitude,latitude)) indextype is mdsys.spatial_index

Hi Michael,
Do you have a user named XXX on your system? Are you creating the index as XXX?
I logged in as scott, followed the example, and had no problems.
SQL> create index LONG_LAT_TABLE_IDX on
LONG_LAT_TABLE(get_long_lat_pt(longitude,latitude))
indextype is mdsys.spatial_index;
Index created.
SQL> SQL> select name from LONG_LAT_TABLE a

  • Unable to create function based spatial index

    Maybe someone can help me. I can't seem to find the answer for what I'm doing here.
    I'm trying to create a function based spatial index - so that I can utilize coordinates in tables when I have no SDO_GEOMETRY column.
    Is there a fundamental problem with trying to do this or is it something syntactical?
    Executing the following sql is giving me this error, while I'm trying to create the spatial index:

    Hi,
    To follow up, the below code resolved the issue:
    create index EQX_OKC_K_LINES_B_N4 on okc_k_lines_b(apps.eqx_oklb_term_date_nvl(date_terminated))

  • Function-based spatial indexes

    hello,
    I'm using a function-based spatial index, which I've set up in a way similar to Oracle's examples in the Spatial documentation. Here's the basic idea:
    create table places (
    place_id not null
    primary key,
    latitude number,
    longitude number
    -- This function is used to create an MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY object
    -- as part of the Oracle Spatial indexing of the latitude and
    -- longitude.
    create or replace function get_long_lat_pt(
    longitude in number,
    latitude in number)
    return MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY deterministic
    is
    begin
    if latitude is null or longitude is null
    then
    return null;
    else
    return mdsys.sdo_geometry(2001, 8307,
    mdsys.sdo_point_type(longitude, latitude, NULL), NULL, NULL);
    end if;
    end;
    show errors
    INSERT INTO USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA
    VALUES ('PLACES', 'schema_name.GET_LONG_LAT_PT(LONGITUDE,LATITUDE)',
    MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ARRAY(
    MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Longitude', -180, 180, 0.00000005),
    MDSYS.SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Latitude', -90, 90, 0.00000005)),
    8307
    -- Create Oracle Spatial function-based index
    CREATE INDEX places_long_lat_idx ON places(get_long_lat_pt(longitude, latitude))
    INDEXTYPE IS mdsys.spatial_index PARAMETERS('layer_gtype="POINT"');
    All of this works just fine. But then I try to do a nearest neighbor calculation:
    select /*+ INDEX(places places_long_lat_idx) */ place_id
    FROM places WHERE
    SDO_NN(
    get_long_lat_pt(longitude,latitude), -- table values
    get_long_lat_pt(-71.1482, 42.3367), -- an arbitrary point
    'sdo_num_res=2') = 'TRUE'
    and I get this:
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-13249: SDO_NN cannot be evaluated without using index
    ORA-06512: at "MDSYS.MD", line 1723
    ORA-06512: at "MDSYS.MDERR", line 17
    ORA-06512: at "MDSYS.PRVT_IDX", line 27
    It's as though Oracle isn't using the function-based index inside my SDO_NN call, even with a INDEX hint. I am stumped.
    Just for kicks I tried to do a query using SDO_FILTER instead. I get:
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-13268: error obtaining dimension from USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA
    ORA-06512: at "MDSYS.MD", line 1723
    ORA-06512: at "MDSYS.MDERR", line 8
    ORA-06512: at "MDSYS.SDO_3GL", line 365
    I am using Oracle 9.0.1.0.0, and I set QUERY_REWRITE_ENABLED=TRUE and QUERY_REWRITE_INTEGRITY=TRUSTED as noted in the Spatial documentation.
    Any clues?
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Greg,
    The only times I have seen this error is when the
    two parameters you mention are not set properly for the session.
    I have a feeling that the parameters (QUERY_REWRITE_ENABLED,
    and QUERY_REWRITE_INTEGRITY) are not getting the right values.
    Can you verify this by doing a
    show parameter QUERY_REWRITE_INTEGRITY
    and
    show parameter QUERY_REWRITE_ENABLED
    from the session from where you are trying to execute
    the Spatial operator.
    Or you can try setting them for the session by
    alter session set parameter=value
    to see if it makes a difference.
    thanks

  • The problem of function-based reuse

    I read the quoted text as follows from a book authored by a Microsoft developer. I googled and found a lots of quotes of it, but did not find any explanation.
    ============
    With languages like C, the basic unit of reuse is the function. The problem with function-based reuse is that the function is coupled to the data it manipulates. and if the data is global, a change to benefit one function in one reuse context damages another function used somewhere else.
    ============
    C uses libraries widely,which is of function-based reuse. Can anybody kindly give me a scenario when this problem happens?
    Java is typically object-based reuse, and I admit that my question is not a Java one. But I feel it would help to understand more about the concept or benefits of design of Java language. So, thank you to allow me to post this question here,

    This is what I got out of reading the quote you posted:
    I suppose something like the following could happen:
    You (being a general person) have been given a class to modify. You look at the code for the first time and it has a bunch of methods and some class variables in it. Some of the methods use the class variables. How can you be sure if you change the functionality to change a class variable in one method won't affect the other methods when they are used? This problem can be solved by learning what everything does, how it interacts and the correct way to use it. But then again, if you don't think about it and just make changes...Oops!
    Perhaps another abstract example would make sense:
    Imagine a calculator that could be used by 2 people at the same time? I bet it'd come up with some funny answers :)
    I wrote up a short example of this, hopefully it makes some sense:
    public class SuperBigProgram
         private int globalVar;
         public static void main ( String[] args )
              new SuperBigProgram();
         public SuperBigProgram()
              System.out.println("I'm a super big program.");
              globalVar = 0;
              //Let's pretend these series of events occur during the program:
              doItHighChanceActivity(); //1
              doItHighChanceActivity(); //2
              doItHighChanceActivity(); //3
              //Whoops super rare event occured!
              doesNotHappenALot();
              doItHighChanceActivity(); //4????    but is really 5.
          * This happens A LOT!
         private void doItHighChanceActivity ()
              superUtilityMethod();
              System.out.println("globalVar: " + globalVar);
          * This utility method does some awesome utility stuff for our Super Big Program.
          * This changes some global data.
         private void superUtilityMethod()
              globalVar++;
          * This does not happen a lot, if at all.
         private void doesNotHappenALot()
              //Hey I don't happen a lot but I'm reusing this really cool utility method that contains global data...
              //Code reuse for the win!
              superUtilityMethod();
    }Here is the output:
    I'm a super big program.
    globalVar: 1
    globalVar: 2
    globalVar: 3
    globalVar: 5

  • Seqment shrink with function based indexes - 10.2.0.3

    I see 10g Rel 2 limiation with function based index while doing segment shrink. Is their a workaround? I tried to drop the function based index before shrink, still shrink is taking several hrs to complete.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Siva

    Hi,
    Analogy: suppose you have 1 million barrels filled with water near 85% maybe less, now you spilled ...say 40% the total water, maybe you have 400,000 empty barrels or the equivalent (here comes the overhead) you are going to concentrate the water in 600,000 barrels and return the empty ones to the "Oracle Server" store, just to reclaim them gradually until you have the starting 1 million barrel.
    Our advise: keep the objects as they are, both table and index. Oracle will use released space as efficiently as he can, which is (at that level) better than us.
    You're worried about the index space? much better leave it now, that's the structure which may cause the major part of overhead.

  • Why Segment shrink is not supported for tables with function-based indexes

    As we all know , Segment shrink is not supported for tables with function-based indexes.
    But i'm very confused .
    Why Segment shrink is not supported for tables with function-based indexes ?? what's its essential?

    Creating a function based index creates a hidden virtual column (you'll see it if you query user_tab_cols) and once you index a virtual column you can no longer shrink the table:orcl> create table t1(c1 number,c2 as (c1 * 2)) segment creation immediate;
    Table created.
    orcl> alter table t1 enable row movement;
    Table altered.
    orcl>
    orcl> alter table t1 shrink space;
    Table altered.
    orcl> create index i2 on t1(c2);
    Index created.
    orcl> alter table t1 shrink space;
    alter table t1 shrink space
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-10631: SHRINK clause should not be specified for this object
    orcl>so the issue is not with function based indexes per se, it is a level beneath that. Perhaps because the virtual column has no physical existance, when the row is moved there is no reason for Oracle to realize that an index needs updating? I haven't attempted to reverse engineer this, I would be interested to know if anyone else has.

  • Problem with File Based replication in Weblogic Express 10

    Hi,
              We have Web application (exploded war) file deployed on Weblogic Express 10, to a Cluster of three Managed Servers (all three on different physical machines).
              We are using File based session persistance in weblogic.xml
              We have a shared location for all the three servers where we will be sharing the Session data.
              When we start the application, its works fine and is very fast, but after sometime the application slows down.
              Troubleshooting the Issue we found that its a problem with file based replication. By using File based replication every user session is stored in form of directory inside shared directory. So after sometime thousands of directories are created inside the shared directory where the session information is stored. So when we access the application, its waiting for lot of time with Message Session Monitor .... (this is because its browsing through the shared session storage directory for lot of time for session information as it has lot of directories) and finally after a long time like 10 mins we get the Application Home Page.
              When we clean up all the saved sessions inside shared directory, the application works fine, But we will see the same sometime later may be after 3 or 4 hours when the shared session directory has lot of session information stored in it.
              Is there a way to clean up the saved session information on file system as soon as that user session is closed by using file based replication.
              We cannot used Inmemory replication as our Appl doesnt support it.
              Please advice as it is a major show stopper in our Production Mirror env.
              Weblogic Consultant

    It is possible to reduce number of live session by configuring very low timeout-secs weblogic.xml. Default is 60 minutes.
              More details are here..

  • Problem with replication based on materialized view

    Problem with replication based on materialized view...
    Given:
    1. Source: S-1
    2. Targets: T-1, T-2
    3. DB links: from T-1 to S-1, from T-2 to S-1
    Required replicate table TBL on S-1 to T-1, T-2 via db links.
    On S-1 was created materialized view log with PK on TBL. On T-1, T-2 were created mat.views as "on prebuilt table refresh fast on demand". In case of get "ORA-12034: materialized view log younger than last refresh" or initial load - perform complete refresh. Initial load on T-1 takes about 1 hour, on T-2 - about 12 hours. Refresh is executed via job with minutely interval. If refresh is running then it is not performed.
    Problem: after initial load on T-1 performs fast refresh, but on T-2 raised ORA-12034 and complete performs again.
    What's wrong?

    34MCA2K2, Google lover?
    I confess perhaps I gave a little info.
    View log was created before MV.
    It was the first initial load.
    No refresh failed.
    No DDL.
    No purge log.
    Not warehouse.
    There is no such behavior for MVs on another sites.
    P.S. I ask help someone who knows what's wrong or who faced with it or can me  follow by usefull link.

  • Performance problem on function-based index

    Hi guys,
    I am having performance problems with the addition of new function-based indexes.
    alter session set nls_comp='ANSI';
    alter session set nls_sort='BINARY_CI';
    * have to run this because the of case-insensitivity requirements
    I have a view. for ex:

    union
    select * from emp2,user
    where emp2.empno=user.empno
    union
    select * from emp3,user
    where emp3.empno=user.empno and so on
    When I run this it works with a full table scan. Then when i created a function-based index:
    create index user_ix on
    user(nlssort(empno,'NLS_SORT=BINARY_CI'));
    analyze index user_ix compute statistics;
    analyze table user compute statistics;
    the view hangs. but when i run the individual select statements it works.
    Do you guys have any idea on what's going on? Any advise is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    LC is absolutely right. Brain cramp on my part.
    On the other hand, I can't seem to coerce Oracle to apply a to_binary_double conversion as part of an implicit conversion.
    var bin_dbl binary_double;
    select to_binary_double(14) into :bin_dbl from dual;
    SCOTT @ nx102 JCAVE9420> select * from emp where empno = :bin_dbl;

  • Error when creating spatial index in 10g

    Hello.
    I have a problen when I try to create a spatial index. The strange thing is that the same commands always works fine in some machines, but if always fails in others. I tryed in diferent versiones of Oracle, but I have the error in al of them. The versions I have tryed are:
    - 10.2.0.1
    - 10.2.0.4
    The operating systems are:
    Windows XP professional 32 bits
    Windows 2003 Server 32 bits
    These are the steps i make:
    1) Create a Table with a SDO_GEOMETRY column (GEOMETRY)
    2) Load data with SQLLDR (I hve tryed different SRID's, and all fail)
    So far everything is ok
    3) Create the INDEX
    When I execute the CREATE INDEX command CREATE INDEX MADRID_SX ON MADRID (GEOMETRY) INDEXTYPE IS MDSYS.SPATIAL_INDEX;
    I obtain the error:
    ERROR en linea 1:+
    ORA-29855: se ha producido un error en la ejecucion de la rutina+
    ODCIINDEXCREATE+
    ORA-13282: fallo al inicializar la transformacion de coordenadas+
    ORA-06512: en "MDSYS.SDO_INDEX_METHOD_10I", line 10+
    I too have noticed that if I execute the next command, I have an error:
    SELECT MDSYS.sdo_cs.transform(sdo_geometry(2001,8192,sdo_point_type(13.6,52.4,null),null,null),25830) from dual;
    ERROR en linea 1:+

    ORA-06512: en "MDSYS.SDO_CS", linea 112+
    ORA-06512: en "MDSYS.SDO_CS", linea 2678+
    And if I execute the next command, I too have another error:
    SELECT SDO_CS.VALIDATE_WKT(25830) FROM DUAL;
    FALSE (169)*
    Any ideas? Could it be related with something inside the machines, user privileges, etc.?
    Thanks in advance.

    I have found that the problem is to use a SRID of AUTH_NAME column in MDSYS.CS_SRS table without the value "Oracle." in it.
    If I use an Oracle’s SRID, everything works fine. If I use an EPSG’s SRID, fails.
    For example, this command uses an Oracle SRID (8192) and one from the EPSG (25830), and fails:
    SELECT MDSYS.sdo_cs.transform(sdo_geometry(2001,8192,sdo_point_type(13.6,52.4,null),null,null),25830) from dual;
    ERROR en linea 1:
    ORA-13282: fallo al inicializar la transformacion de coordenadas
    ORA-06512: en "MDSYS.SDO_CS", linea 79
    ORA-06512: en "MDSYS.SDO_CS", linea 116
    ORA-06512: en "MDSYS.SDO_CS", linea 2690
    However, if I use two Oracle SRID (8192 and 83030), it works.
    SELECT MDSYS.sdo_cs.transform(sdo_geometry(2001,8192,sdo_point_type(13.6,52.4,null),null,null),83030) from dual;
    SDO_GEOMETRY(2001, 83030, SDO_POINT_TYPE(1625183.71, 5936269.06, NULL), NULL, NULL
    Therefore, the problem seems to be to use a non Oracle SRID.

  • Problems with file based repository

    I am facing problems with Oracle 10g cluster which is using file based repository.Every now and then one of the nodes in the cluster gives problems and I get error message
    "The DCM repository is not currently available. The Oracle Application Server ins
    tance, "abc", is using a cached copy of the repository information. This operation will update the repository, therefore the repository must be available."
    When I check the repository host its up and running. This happens intermittently. Is there any way to bring this node back in sync with repository? dcmctl resyncinstance doesnt seem to work.
    Thanks

    Generally this issue comes if esb-dt and BPEL runs on the same server. Try this:
    1> go to <SOA_HOME>/integration/esb/config
    2> edit esb_config.ini
    add 2 parameters at the end of the file
    PingCount = 30
    PingInterval = 30
    3> save it and restart soa

    Hi,
    it looks like your tablespace USERS is to small. You have no space left. So extend the size of the tablespace by enlarging the file underneath or putting a second one to it, or put the tablespace in AUTOEXTEND mode. See the administrators guide: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/tspaces.htm#i1010516

  • Caching problem with iFS web server / index.html

    There seems to be a problem with the iFS Java web server serving cached index.html documents after they have been modified.
    This only happens when the document is referenced by the folder name (e.g. /home/kennu/). If you reference it by the full name (/home/kennu/index.html), the new modified version comes up alright.
    I wonder if this is a bug or some kind of a feature? Is there an quick and easy workaround?
    Byt the way, is this the correct place to post bug reports? I didn't see iFS mentioned in the OTN Bug Database.

    well, this is certainly not an intended effect. i'll look into it. in the meantime, the workaround already posted should pull you through.
    sorry about the inconvenience.

  • RoboHelp 9 - problem with merged TOC and index

    Using RoboHelp v9.0.0.228 I have a master project which contains several merged TOCs and indexes for other CHMs. This has worked successfully for years, but has now stopped working in our translated CHMs. I have checked all the relevant settings and they appear to be correct. The English version still works correctly. Can you help please? Many thanks.

    OK, so my post was just a summary really!
    I have a main project with its own TOC, index and topics. I then have several other projects with their own TOCs, indexes and topics, and these are merged into the master TOC. In all these projects, we use the indexes to contain function ids for our software, so that when you press F1 in a software function, it invokes the correct Help topic in the CHM. The software is coded so that it goes to the main project first, and then looks in the merged index to find the link to the Help topic.
    In the individual sub projects, the TOCs and indexes are present and work correctly. Also, in the master project, the TOC and index works correctly in the original English version. However, even though the TOCs, indexes and topics are all present and correct in the translated versions (Russian, for example) the index in the master project does not contain the entries for the sub projects. The TOCs for the sub projects do, however, work correctly.
