Problem with J2SDK1.4.0
hi, I just installed the J2SDk1.4.0 on my computer everything went ok but I have problems to open the html files, even with the included examples of Java itself. Every time it tells me the class (of the example) cannot be found, althoug it is in the same directory. with the appletviewer it works (f.e. appletviewer XXX.html), but if I just open the html-file it won't work. I already tried to set the class path (in autoexec.bat, and in explorer the virtual machine is on)to the directory where javac.exe,..... are but it doesn't help.
does anyone know what I have to do because it is a little urgent to find a sollution.
Do not set classpath to the directory that contains javac.exe, that will not help. Classpath must point to the directory that contains your class files. Be sure to include the current directory (".") in the classpath:
set CLASSPATH=.

Consider the Following Code with j2sdk1.4.0_01/jakarta-tomcat-4.0.1
try {
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("Jdbc:Odbc:IMSMC","sa","");
String sql="select * from <Table Name> ";
Statement stmt=conn.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE,ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);
*************Some Code ******************
catch (Exception ex) {
ex.printStackTrace();
}//End of catch
}//End of Try
The Tomcat automatically shuts down If I'm using Scrollable
Result Set and the following Error Occurs.

Also No Error is Thrown with j2sdk1.4.0
If I'm using Not using Scrollable Result Set, No Error is Thrown.
Error is Thrown only with Scrollable Result set and with j2sdk1.4.0_01Did you forget to put the SQL statement in when you used createStatement? I added it below:
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("Jdbc:Odbc:IMSMC","sa","");
String sql="select * from <Table Name> ";
Statement stmt=conn.createStatement(sql, ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE,ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);
Does the JDBC-ODBC bridge driver accomodate any of these settings you're trying?
The problem shouldn't have anything to do with Tomcat. Sounds like a JDBC driver issue to me. Try to reproduce the error without Tomcat, and then see if adding the SQL corrects things at all.
I'd read the docs to see if the bridge driver has these features. I don't think it's up to the full standard. -
RMI problem with j2sdk1.4
Hi,
I have written a simple Ping program, to exercise me with RMI, this program worked fine with jdk1.3, now I have downloaded j2sdk1.4 and I have installed it, I runned the RMI program but now I have a run-time error message.
Could you explain me what can be happened?
Thanks a lotThe error message + stacktrace would help...
did you also compile with jdk1.4 or just execute with the jre shipped with 1.4? -
Problem with Class and Classpath
Hello ME Windows Users, now before you place a wry smile on your face, I have a problem with path and classpath. Stop it, I can see you smiling!
By visiting the the last 10 pages of the forum and reading Sun installation notes, some tooldocs and by given some answers by some nice people, I have become an expert in turning off my computer, about 10 times/hr. I still am trying to make my first cup of java.
With the ME computer,
I'm unable to right click on the desktop and go to properties, advanced,
I'm unable to go go start, run, sysedit,
I'm unable to change the ms-dos window of autoexec.bat, it just shuts down.
Now before you tell me, I should of bought a different computer, the only place I can find to modify the path and classpath is in the environment which is in system configuration under tools. Here I have placed numerous configurations, like
C:\java>set path=%path%;c:\j2sdk1.4.2\bin
C:\java>set classpath=%classpath%;.;
;java_dir\bin where ;java_bin is c:\j2sdk1.4.2
.; java_dir\bin; %path% where ;java_bin is c:\j2sdk1.4.2 and the list goes on.
But, I know you are still smiling, the % signs comes up in a dialog box, saying too many, and will not convert the text to the environment to be saved when I close down for the tenth time in the last hour.
Can someone help me before I make a real cup of coffee and accidentally drop it on the ME box.
Have a laugh on me Mik.C:\java>set path=%path%;c:\j2sdk1.4.2\binGood
But it is no good because it has to many % and a dialog box appears, saying you have too many parameters.
Are you saying I have to shutdown again to answer your ?

Hi,
We run into different behavior of the Thread Context ClassLoader on OC4J 10.1.3.1.0 (which is OK) and OC4J 10.1.3.2.0 (here we have problems). It appeared in the Threads directly and indirectly (e.g. through Timer) created by our application. Threads, created by OC4j (e.g. the Thread, where our start-up servlet are running) are OK.
Thread Context ClassLoader (could be received from Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader()) on OC4J 10.1.3.1.0 in all threads is the same ClassLoader instance as the current ClassLoader (could be received from getClass().getClassLoader()). Actually the same is true for JBoss, WebLogic and WebSphere.
Thread Context ClassLoader on OC4J 10.1.3.2.0 is NOT the same ClassLoader instance as the current ClassLoader, it is even the instance of the different Class. This ClassLoader does not see classes, available at application level, which causes multiple problems.
Is it possible to configure OC4J 10.1.3.2.0 to behave similar to OC4J 10.1.3.1.0?
We tried to use “–userThreads”, but it did not help.
To investigate this problem we created a simple Web Application, which has Start-up Servlet, creates one thread and one Timer Task. From each point it is checking if Thread Context ClassLoader is the same ClassLoader instance as the current ClassLoader and printing Class Loaders if they are different. In addition it checks if correct parser accessed (should be xerces, which is in the Web App classpath and for which we added a shared library). Below you could see what we received on OC4J 10.1.3.1.0 (which is OK) and OC4J 10.1.3.2.0:

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
ThanksSorry for confusion, version of OC4J does not really meter, but jdk does. It happened that in the case where everything OK (OC4J 10.1.3.1.0) I accidentally used jdk 1.5. Now I tried both (OC4J 10.1.3.1.0 and OC4J 10.1.3.2.0) with j2sdk1.4.2_14 (besides I tried j2sdk1.4.2_09 and _08) and j2sdk1.5.0_06.
With JDK 1.5 everything is OK and with JDK 1.4 we have a problem, described in the previous posting. I believe now I should reformulate my initial question:
Is it possible to configure OC4J 10.1.3 running under j2sdk1.4.2_14 to force Thread Context ClassLoader to behave similar to OC4J 10.1.3 under j2sdk1.5.0_06? If yes, how we could do it?
Thanks -
Install of apps 11.5.8 on Windows - Problems with PreReqs
Hello all,
I've worked with Oracle database server for years,
and installed it many times. I want to learn Oracle apps,
and I'm attempting the install of 11.5.8 on Windows
from the CDs. But I'm having some problems with the
pre requisites.
Unlike LInux, if the install doesn't work, you can't
clean out all traces of the install. I've completely
reinstalled Windows to start fresh this last time.
Although, with the pre req warnings, I didn't attempt
the install.
Here is what I did.
Copy the CDs.

I check the PDF install doc:
Step 2: Install Latest Java Development Kit (JDK)This release of Oracle Applications requires Java Development Kit (JDK) 1.3 or
higher. Before you begin your installation, download and install the latest version of
JDK on your concurrent server, administration server, forms server, and web server.
Download JDK 1.3 from the download site for the operating system where you will
deploy the Oracle HTTP server. See OracleMetaLink document 130091.1 (Upgrading
to JDK 1.3 with Oracle Applications 11i) for a list of the sites.
1. Follow the installation instructions provided with the download.
2. Make a note of the location where you install JDK. The Rapid Install wizard
asks for this location on the Derived Settings screen. (See Step 8 on page 2-14 or
Step 9 on page 3-16.)
MSDEV Directory (Windows)
Location of the Visual C/C++ executables and .DLL files. Used for linking application executables or .DLLs.
MKS Directory (Windows) MKS tools must be added in the PATH so that executables can be used to
relink application executables and .DLLs.Finally the Questions:
I've been looking at other threads.
Oracle E-Business Suite R12 Installation Steps on Windows XP
1)
For this older 11.5.8 version, do I need to install the JDK, or will
this be done for me? If I do need to install the JDK, can I use the
latest version??
2)
Do I really need to install MS Visual C++ ?????
If so, could I use the latest .NET express instead??
3)
What is the MKS? The one thing the docs say is:
MKS Directory (Windows) MKS tools must be added in the PATH so that executables can be used to
relink application executables and .DLLs.Do I just need to create an "MKS" directory, and add it to the path?
Or, do I need to install some other software??
I've tried installing this a few times over the past few years, and
while I've had different levels of success, I've always had some kind
of issue after the install was done.
I really want to learn form and reports, so I hope that you guys
can help me out on this so I finally get a clean install.
Thanks a lot!Thanks.

Problem with file descriptors not released by JMF
Hi,
I have a problem with file descriptors not released by JMF. My application opens a video file, creates a DataSource and a DataProcessor and the video frames generated are transmitted using the RTP protocol. Once video transmission ends up, if we stop and close the DataProcessor associated to the DataSource, the file descriptor identifying the video file is not released (checkable through /proc/pid/fd). If we repeat this processing once and again, the process reaches the maximum number of file descriptors allowed by the operating system.
The same problem has been reproduced with JMF-2.1.1e-Linux in several environments:
- Red Hat 7.3, Fedora Core 4
- jdk1.5.0_04, j2re1.4.2, j2sdk1.4.2, Blackdown Java
This is part of the source code:

Many thanks.Its a bug on H263, if you test it without h263 track or with other video codec, the release will be ok.
You can try to use a not-Sun h263 codec like the one from fobs or jffmpeg projects. -
Problem with import statement for user created classe
I recently downloaded J2sdk1.4.0_03 before that I had jdk1.3 and never had this problem.All the files other than named package I import for my
application does not compile.But when I commented that out it work just fine.
any help is appreciatedthanks
It makes sense not to import non-packaged class.
My other problem is with JDBC ODBC.I have a Dell system with Windows XP.
I registered my User Data Source to ODBC with MS Text driver(.txt , csv).When the code reaches at the .executeUpdate(CREAT TABLE CUSTOMERS)
it throws an exception
sQLException 3:java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC Text Driver] Cannot modify the design of table 'CUSTOMERS'. It is in a read-only database.
Do I really need to change the attribues or some thing else.
How can I chane the attributes of the database.Never had problem with windows 98. -

I think this is the problem with ciphers. So can anybody please help me with this!!!. This is very urgent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks in advance
NileshThanks for your prompt reply I was able to make it run. Actually I am using the same keystore and truststore at both the client and the server end. I added those properties in opmn.xml as startup parameters.
I have another query I am using JDev to create a client proxy for my webservice that is deployed in OC4J. I have setup OC4J in 2 way SSL (mutual authentication)
When I invoke my client proxy with these system properties set
System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStore",keyStore);
System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStorePassword", keyStorePassword);
System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStore", trustStore);
System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword",trustStorePassword);
System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStoreType","JKS");
System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStoreType","JKS");
I get an exception in the log.xml which is
<MSG_TEXT>IOException in ServerSocketAcceptHandler$AcceptHandlerHorse:run</MSG_TEXT>

Beginner Has Problem With Loading JDBC Driver Using MySQL
Hi, I am having problem with loading JDBC driver, and need your diagnotic help.
1. I have installed MySQL (C:\mysql), created a databse (soup), and created a littel table (VIDEOS). I am able to see the table in the console:
sql> select * from videos
2. I have downloaded the latest version of Connector/J (mysql-connector-java-3.1.0-alpha.zip), and unzip the zip file into my C:\ directory.
3. I copied the mysql-connector-java-3.1.0-alpha-bin.jar to the C:\j2sdk1.4.1_02\jre\lib\ext folder and it is in my CLASSPATH
4. MySQL server is running
C:\> C:\mysql\bin\mysqld-nt --standalone
5. open another DOS window and use the database
mysql>USE SOUP
6. succesfully compiled a Java program (javac Test.java):
import java.sql.* ;
public class Test
public static void main( String[] args )
try
Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver").newInstance();
try
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection( "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/soup" );
try
Statement statement = con.createStatement();
ResultSet rs = statement.executeQuery("SELECT TITLE FROM VIDEOS");
while ( rs.next() )
System.out.println( rs.getString( "TITLE" ) );
rs.close();
statement.close();
catch ( SQLException e )
System.out.println( "JDBC error: " + e );
finally
con.close();
catch( SQLException e )
System.out.println( "could not get JDBC connection: " + e );
catch( Exception e )
System.out.println( "could not load JDBC driver: " + e );
7. when I run the Java program (java Test), I got
the message:
could not load JDBC driver: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver
What am I missing?Hi,
I missed to specify test in my last post.
Try running your program by explicitly setting the classspath when
running your program . java -classpath c:\mysql-connector-java-3.1.0-alpha-bin.jar test
Make sure your jar file contains org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver class -
Problem with type 4 driver using oracle 10g
HI,
I am unable to establish a type 4 connection with oracle 10g.
Specs:
Driver used: OracleDriver that comes with the ojdbc14.jar along with oracle 10g
JDK used: Tried using both j2sdk1.4.2 and using JDK 5.0
JRE: Again, JRE that was shipped with j2sdk 1.4.2 and JRE 5.0
OS: Windows XP sp2
I am able to compile the following piece of code, so there is no classpath problem, etc.
When I try to run the program, the exception thrown is "No Suitable Driver"
There is no problem with the TNSListener, etc...even if all Oracle related services in 'services.msc' are Started/Stopped, the error remains.
I am, however, able to establish the connection using type1 driver.
Please Help!

Possible problem with StringTokenizer?
Hi all
I am having a problem with StringTokenizer and I would like your comments.
This is a simple class to put the class path folders into an array:

String value = System.getProperty( "java.class.path" );
System.out.println( "\n" );
System.out.println( value );
System.out.println( "\n" );
StringTokenizer st = new StringTokenizer( value, ";" );
String valueArray[] = new String[ st.countTokens() ];
System.out.println( "folders in class path: " + st.countTokens() + "\n" );
int i = 0;
import java.io.*;
import java.util.*;

String value = System.getProperty( "java.class.path" );
System.out.println( "\n" );
System.out.println( value );

StringTokenizer st = new StringTokenizer( value, ";" );
String valueArray[] = new String[ st.countTokens() ];
System.out.println( "folders in class path: " + st.countTokens() + "\n" );

Exception in thread "main" java.util.NoSuchElementException
at java.util.StringTokenizer.nextToken(StringTokenizer.java:232)
at com.accuchekinc.util.TestThis1.main(TestThis1.java:25)There are 19 folders in the classpath. However the nextToken() method is skipping some of them.
Further st.hasMoreTokens() should prevent the loop from overrunning the list of tokens but doesn't.
Does anyone have any ideas? What did I do wrong?
Thanks all
Billwhile( st.hasMoreTokens() ) {
System.out.println( st.nextToken() );
valueArray[i++] = st.nextToken();
}It looks like you're calling nextToken() twice each
time through the while loop, but only checking to see
if it exists once. This would be better:
while(st.hasMoreTokens()) {
String tok = st.nextToken();
System.out.println(tok);
valueArray[i++] = tok;
Duhh............ Thanks! It was a long day.
That makes senses. It is not like say String.length() which returns a set value. Ask and learn. -
Asant problem with some tutorials
Hey!
I have a problem with asant build in the 1.4 tutorial and the chapter with SAAJ and MyUddiPing.java. I have done the changes in BUILD.PROPERTIES (j2ee.home=c:\\sun\\appserver). I can use asant on the Hello1 example but it doesnt work with this example or asant build-registry and asant build-service in the Coffe Application. I can use it on some tutorials but not on others. Here is my PATH: C:\j2sdk1.4.2_04\bin;C:\sun\AppServer\lib;c:\jwsdp-1.3\jwsdp-shared\bin;C:\sun\appserver\bin;C:\sun\appserver\share\bin.
And here is the message from the "dos" window;
C:\Sun\j2eetutorial14\examples\saaj\myuddiping>asant build
Buildfile: build.xml

Thanks for the help!

First time poster guys, so be gentle.
I have installed this older package on 20+ PCs, but this one is kicking my arse. It makes it through the install and then at the very end puts up:
Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
I have tried a TON of stuff including uninstalling, re-installing, editing the deployment.properties file, copying that file from a working PC, installing other versions (1.3.X and the latest one that downloads from the frontpage seem to work, but when I go to java.com and test to see if I have java installed, it just closes the browser). I ran it with logging turned on and got the following info.

The java_install.log says everything extracted and unpacked fine. The jupdate log says that everything worked and ends with:
INFO: Java(TM) Update (1.4.2_08-b03) has been installed successfully on this machine.
But yet I still get an error during the install of 1.4.2_08 and even if a different version LOOKS like it works, it still isn't really working because the java icon in control panel never works and if I go to java.com and test to see if I have java installed it closes the browser. I have also signed in as admin and updated to IE 7.0, so I don't think a permission or browser issue is the culprit. 3 hours of my life gone. Anyone got any ideas?First you down load the windows inataller from the follwoing url
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=cebbacd8-c094-4255-b702-de3bb768148f&displaylang=en
then you down load the offline installation package of j2sdk1.4 and install it
