Problem with Javascript form submission

Would someone correct the following the Javascript function?
It should submit the form when test==true, and should give an alert message
when test==false.
The problem is when the alert message is displayed and closed, the form is still submitted.
In fact, I need no action when an alert message is closed.
Thank you.
<script type='text/javascript'>
function submitForm(en){
var test =true;//true means form is valid and ready for submission.
if(en == "submit_btn"){
var alertMessage =null;
if(myform.choice01.selectedIndex==0 && myform.choice02.selectedIndex==0 ){
     test=false;
     alertMessage ="ERROR1";
if(myform.category.selectedIndex==0){test = false; alertMessage="ERROR2";}
if(myform.left_right.selectedIndex==0){test = false; alertMessage="ERROR3";}
if(test==false) {alert(alertMessage); return true;}//dont submit
else if(test==true){//submit form
     var submitURL= "someURL";
     myform.action = submitURL;
     myform.submit();
          }//end else if
     }//end function
</script>

Try This
<FORM name="myform" method="POST" >
<SELECT name="category" onchange="submitForm(this.name)";>
//<Option> elements
<SELECT name="left_right" onchange="submitForm(this.name)";>
//<Option> elements
// and more <SELECT> elements
<INPUT type=submit name=submit_btn value="submit" onclick="submitForm(this.name)";>
</form>
<script type='text/javascript'>
function submitForm(en)
     myform = document.forms(0);
     var isValidRequest = true;//true means form is valid and ready for submission.
     if(en == "submit_btn")
          var alertMessage =null;
          if(myform.choice01.selectedIndex==0 && myform.choice02.selectedIndex==0 )
               isValidRequest=false;
               alertMessage ="ERROR1";
          if(myform.category.selectedIndex==0)
               isValidRequest = false;
               alertMessage="ERROR2";
          if(myform.left_right.selectedIndex==0)
               isValidRequest = false;
               alertMessage="ERROR3";
     if(isValidRequest)
          //submit form
          var submitURL= "someURL";
          myform.action = submitURL;
          myform.submit();
     }//dont submit
     else
          alert(alertMessage);
     }//end else
}//end function
</script>

    I'm very disheartened to hear that you've had ongoing problems when attempting to order from BestBuy.com. Our goal is ever to provide a fun and efficient shopping environment! Certainly creating aggravation serves neither you nor us and I apologize sincerely for this having been your experience.
    We recommend the troubleshooting steps you mentioned (i.e., clearing the browser cache, deleting temporary internet files and cookies) because this is the most common cause of this type of problem. I too have encountered this issue from time to time and these steps have almost always resolved the problem. I say almost always because there's one further step you can try: ensure that you have signed out of BestBuy.com, then perform the browser maintenance steps we've recommended. Afterward, before signing in to BestBuy.com, add your desired items to your cart and sign in as part of the checkout process. When the standard steps have not netted a resolution for me, this has solved the problem each time.
    I hope this helps. I'm very grateful that you took the time to write to us with your concerns and for sharing your very valuable feedback about your online experience.

  • Problem with Javascript and opening a new page

    Hi,
    I'm developping a website with Java Server Faces.
    I've a problem with JavaScript.
    I have a table, and each row of that table, has a button, to display more information about that specific row. I want to display this information in a new window. For this I want to use JavaScript.
    The new window, of course, needs some information of the other window, to show the right data.
    The first time I click the 'more-information-button', it works perfectly, but from than on, he keeps showing the same information...

  • JSF problems with Javascript

    Hi everyone!!
    The situation is this: I have a datable with one of its columns make an h:commanLink, which has two f:params, its actionListener is a function of a ManagedBean. This is JSF, not MyFaces. In IE, When the link is pressed, it shows a javascript error: " 'elements.idVar' is null or it's not an object ", however in Firefox, it works perfectly. I have been looking for the problem and it have to do with this:
    </form><a href="# onclick="clearFormHiddenParams_formResultado('formResultado');document.forms['formResultado'['formResultado:_idcl'].value='formResultado:dtTablaResultados:0:_id10';document.forms['formResultado']['idVar'].value='37';document.forms['formResultado']['idMun'].value='168'; document.forms['formResultado'].submit(); return false;"><span id="formResultado:dtTablaResultados:0:itColumna3" title="AREA COSECHADA EN CULTIVOS PERMANENTES">1,230</span></a></td>
    </tr>
    <tr class="standardTable_Row2">
    <td><span id="formResultado:dtTablaResultados:1:itColumna1" style="text-align:center;" title="C&oacute;digo Municipio">718</span></td>
    <td><a href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="javascript:window.opener.opener.showLink('SASAIMA')"><span id="formResultado:dtTablaResultados:1:itColumna2_l" title="Municipio">SASAIMA</span></a></td>
    <td><form id="formResultado:dtTablaResultados:1:_id9" method="post" action="/ConsultaEstadisticasGeo/resultadoConsulta.jsf" enctype="application/x-www-form-urlencoded">
    <input type="hidden" name="com.sun.faces.VIEW" id="com.sun.faces.VIEW" value="_id39:_id41" /><input type="hidden" name="formResultado:dtTablaResultados:1:_id9" value="formResultado:dtTablaResultados:1:_id9" /><input type="hidden" name="idVar" /><input type="hidden" name="idMun" /><input type="hidden" name="formResultado:_idcl" />
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    function clearFormHiddenParams_formResultado_dtTablaResultados_1__id9(curFormName) {
    var curForm = document.forms[curFormName];
    curForm.elements['idVar'].value = null;
    curForm.elements['idMun'].value = null;
    curForm.elements['formResultado:_idcl'].value = null;
    //-->
    </script>
    the way JSF manage the params. The error, acdording to the message shonw by IE is in this line: curForm.elements['idVar'].value = null;
    The code of the JSP is this:
    <h:commandLink     actionListener="#{consultaEstadisticasMB.detalleEstadistica}">
         <f:param name="idVar" value="#{consultaEstadisticasMB.idColumna3}" id="idVar" />
         <f:param name="idMun" value="#{registro[0]}" id="idMun" />
         <h:outputText title="#{consultaEstadisticasMB.columna3}" id="itColumna3" value="#{registro[2]}" />
    </h:commandLink>
    Waht can i do? (Not using MyFaces, because I cant do that)
    Thanks for your answers!!

    I have run into this same problem with javascript and the colon. I am not sure if the colon is a valid character for a javascript identifier (one would think the RI developers would have checked it out though!?!).
    Anyway, my workaround is to search through the Javascript DOM for the widget you want to obtain a reference to, using part of its id. After all, you know its id, you just can't use it as a javascript reference. In your Javascript code, do something like:
        var inputWidgets = document.getElementsByTagName("input");
        var targetInput;
        for(var i = 0; i < inputWidgets.length; i++)
           var inputId = inputWidgets.id;
    if(inputId.indexOf("yourInputId") != -1)
    targetInput = inputWidgets[i];
    break;
    It's a lot of effort to just get a reference to a form widget....but it works (I pasted in the code and changed it a bit, so it might not work as is, but at least it demonstrates the idea).

  • Problem with JavaScript in URL iView

    Hi,
    I am facing a problem with javascript when i am trying to access my application through URL iView. In the javascript window.top is used to access the frames in the window. But the EP is not recognizing it as valid. what exctly the problem and please suggest me a solution.
    Ashok.

    Hi,,
    thanks for the quick reply. But what i asked was different. I will put it in different way. I have deployed a application in Web Application Server and trying to access it through URL iView. My application is pure J2EE application with html,jsp and JS files. In javascript we used window.top property of the java script which is working fine MS IE. The problem is window.top is a IE specific property which is not having any equallent open standerd so EP is throwing a java script error. As I know the only possible solution for this problem is inherating IE rendaring capabilities to iView(i.e iFrame). is there any way to do that?
    Ashok.

  • Session problem with a form that calls psp web page.

    Hi,
    My unique form is based on table A.
    Within the form I call a stored procedure, which insert data from A into tables B,C,D
    And then within the same form I call a psp procedure using web.show_document('http://server:8080/plsql/psp_procedure?pvId=1001);
    The plsql web page displays data from tables B,C,D for each single pvId.
    The problem is:
    If any commit is issued the psp web page contains no data from B,C,D.
    I suppose I'm working with two different sessions, can I work within the same one?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I'd say the main problem is that you have both rows with the same name 'Rangée1'. This is not a good idea, especially as the first row is the repeatable row.
    When objects have the same name, you can see the instances in the hierarchy, eg 'Rangée1[0]' and 'Rangée1[1]'. The instances use a zreo-based numbering system.
    By the way you can also see it in the Object > Binding tab:
    So that is when you have multiple objects with the same name.
    The problem with your form is that when objects are repeated (add new instance button), then these new objects also have instances, eg 'Rangée1[0]', 'Rangée1[1]', 'Rangée1[2]', etc.
    So the Acrobat gets confused ;-)
    I have renamed the second row 'Rangée2'. That seems to have solved the problem.
    Here is the form back to you: https://acrobat.com/#d=jcCs7X85xeRYQjvI2Yb*Cw
    Good luck,
    Niall

  • Problem with HR Forms

    Hi,
    I am having problem with HR Forms. I am trying to edit renumeration statement form (Copy of the standard form, with custom infotype fileds).
    One of the Single Fields was spelled wrongly, and I am trying to correct it. I went to the chnage screen, double clicked on the faulty field, changed its name, and pressed 'Transfer'. It asked for a customizing request, and saved it.
    If I again go to PE51, and check the form, the changes I made are not reflecting. Why is this? can anybody help?
    The field I require is P9001-ZCREWNO. But it takes only P9001-zcrew. Is there any limit of 5 characters on length of filed name? (All other changes are reflecting, only this particular change is not reflecting.)
    Thanks
    Krishna
    Edited by: Krishna Kishor Kammaje on Jul 16, 2008 9:49 AM

    Sameer,
    Thanks for the reply. That is already done. I already have the field available in the F4 help of the 'Single Field.
    The field name is ZCREWNO. But when I give this and save it, it says 'Saved'. But if I open again, the stored field name is actually ZCREW  (That is only 5 characters). Because of this, the filed value is not getting populated.
    In Pe51_checktab, filed name is ZCREWNO.
    Thanks
    Krishna

  • Webcontrol problems with javascript

    Hello,
    the page I want to navigate making me problems in my webcontrol. The same page works fine if I go there manually with the Internet Explorer. I force webcontrol to use another IE version than default. I changed regedit >
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION
    and a new key for my application with value 2af8(11000)
    If I do not force this version the used version in the webcontrol seems to be to old.
    I think that my application does not use the settings of my IE because if I use IE manually it works.
    I used Google and I can not find a property to force the webcontrol to activate javascript - it seems that I have to change this by the "global" settings.
    Edit: I do not exactly know if its javascript. The error is a script error.
    It does not help to suppress this errors - the page is not working correctly

    Hello,
    in the meantime I tried GeckoFX to solve the issue, but I get another problem later so I come back to the native webcontrol. To get help I will translate the error message because I can not attach a screenshot
    "Scripterror
    URL: http://www.transerv2000.de/DesktopModules/SNITNET_Metrix/js/rma_main.js
    Do you want to continue? Yes / No"
    Because I see the .js I think that this is an issue because of javascript.
    If I navigate to this site and do some work I have no problems. This is why I think that the used IE in my webcontrol is having other settings?!
    Please help and thanks alot.
    Edit: If I supress javascript errors, I got not Messagebox but the content dont work - so I really think that it is a problem with javascript. As I said, if I use the IE as application the page works fine.

  • Problem with multiple forms and subview

    I have a problem when using NetBean Web Pack (JDK6, Net Beans 5.5, JSF 1.2).
    1) I created a JSF page (hello.jsp) and a page fragment (header.jspf) inside Web Pack, and let the JSF page (hello.jsp) includes the page fragment.
    2) The include instruction is outside of the "form" element id=main_form() of the first JSF page.
    3) Inside the page fragment (header.jspf), I put a form (id=header_form) with some input fields inside the "subview" element.
    4) When running the web application, the form and its children (id=header_form) inside the subview are not rendered.
    It seems to be a problem with multiple forms on a page and the subview.
    Do I use these JSF components incorrectly? Any advice?
    Thanks

    The forms are not nested.
    hello.jsp
    <webuijsf:body ...>
    <!-- BEGIN: include header -->
    <div style="margin: 0px 0px 10px 0px; left: 0px; top: 0px">
    <jsp:directive.include file="Header.jspf"/>
    </div>
    <!-- END: include header -->
    <webuijsf:form ...>
    From above fragment, you can see the header.jspf is outside of the form element.

  • Problem with JavaScript in my PDF Form buttons

    I am trying to have my user click on a button in my form on my website and e-mail the form data to me.
    I am using the following JavaScript with my form button:
    this.mailForm(false, "[email protected]", "", "", "Subject", "Message Body");
    Protected mode is off.
    When I use the above statement (whether the 1st parameter is set to true or false), nothing happens – no email gets sent and no mail dialog box appears. If I change from this.mailForm(...) to this.mailDoc(...), I get a mail dialog box but, as expected, it sends the blank form without the filled-in data due to low user privileges.
    How can I send the form data with this.mailForm(...)? (Note that I prefer to use this.mailForm(...) rather than mailto:(...) because this.mailForm(...) supposedly allows me to e-mail the form without user interaction.)
    -- Don

    Thanks for responding.  I have been using “Submit a form” in the Mouse up event.  I had that operation do a mailto: and it worked, but required user interaction on the part of the web page visitor.  I have successfully created an equivalent JavaScript including:
        var url = "mailto:[email protected]?subject=mySubject&body=MyMessage";
        this.submitForm(url, true);
    The above sent the FDF file successfully, but again, it required user interaction.
    Then I tried this JavaScript - as I mentioned in a previous post - after you said to use doc.submitForm():
        var url = "http://mydomain.com/submit_notice.php";
        doc.submitForm(url, false);
    The above script seemed to do nothing (with no error message). Shouldn't it bring up the PHP file in the web browser?
    I have that php file, submit_notice.php, created, but I have not written any PHP scripts to e-mail the FDF file.  I have never written a PHP script to take the posted FDF data and email it, but I have used the PHP mail() function and posted variables.
    As for what I want to happen on the client side after the submit takes place: I simply want the FDF file to go to an e-mail that I specify.  Additionally, I need it to happen without any client interaction on the part of the web page visitor.  I can expect that visitor to have Adobe reader, but no add-ons or protected mode requirement.
    Please give me an example that emails the FDF file without any user interaction.
    Thank you.

  • Problem with javascript/PHP/ oracle 10g smart quotes

    I have a problem with my php form that passes the text field to a javascript object. When I copy text from MS Word that includes smart quotes, the form inputs that into the database as ? (upside down) marks. The charset of the DB is WE8MSWIN1252. How do I store these smart quotes as regular quotes? And also if I can do any conversions on the front end (js or php). I tried doing some conversion but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated thank you. “double”

    Decide if you want your HTML pages in Windows code page 1252 or Unicode UTF-8. Then, make sure the pages are properly tagged as either "text/html;charset=windows-1252" or "text/html;charset=utf-8". Use HTTP header Content-type or the corresponding <META HTTP-EQUIV=...> tag. Then, set NLS_LANG environment variable for your PHP engine to either AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252 or to AMERICAN_AMERICA.AL32UTF8, depending on which encoding you selected for your HTML.

  • Problem with JavaScript in DPS

    Hello,
    i have little problem with one HTML page in DPS. We've created HTML form, which is formatting output with JavaScript and then passing to local mail client via mailto. It works nicely in Safari on desktop, it works in Safari on iPad BUT it don't work in DPS, when we use it as HTML content (frame on page where form is loaded). Unfortunately, there is no way how to learn what's wrong - on iPad it works, it's not working just in DPS (and it's not working in Viewer on desktop too).
    Anyone have any idea what to do?
    Script is fairly simple, it's my compilation of other works, because i'm not JS programmer, just i'm skilled with google-copy-paste... So there can be some VERY trivial error, but i don't know correct syntax...
    very simple version of this form, which is not working in DPS (but everywhere else), is here
    http://dl.optio.cz/mailtoExample.html
    Thanks for any help!

    Hello,
    when used in DPS browser, it's working (as part of HTMLresources.zip). I don't know if this will help, but here is small game, which works correctly in DPS in web overlay. when you move any red circle, it will let you send results via email. But this is too complicated for my minimal skills.

    Anyway, thanks for help

    I work for a small police agency and I am our IT guy.  Most of my IT tasks have many been hardware and system software and networking.  I have been trying to learn and teach myself programming.  I also create forms for agency use.  I have been working on a form and want to add increased functionality to allow our officers to issue a citation with the least amount of time spend on the form.  One main issue is that we have to have a unique citation number.  We have come up with a format that will specify as such:  YYYY(Officer's 4 Digit ID Number)-(Auto Incrementing number).  So, for instance, if this is my 55th citation issued and my ID number is 0100 the citation number would appear like this:  20120100-0055.  The ID number will be entered by the officer earlier in the form.  The problem I can't seem to vision around is how I will keep the number to increase by one and have it maintain that way.  I want it to be form specific, because each officer has their own vehicle and MDT that the PDF will reside on at this time.
    So far, what I have toyed with in the past 30 minutes is this:
    var Ticker = 0001;
    var Year = getFullYear();
    var x = getField('OfcIDNo').value;
    Eventually the form will be autocreated by a program that will be run from a centralized server.  I have even thought about running the from from a server and taking all the data and INSERTing it into a SQL Server 2008 Express DB table on a server, but I'd still have to have the citation number created at the form as the officer fills in the data.  The last four of the number doesn't have to reset when the year changes, but it would be a plus.  Any information anyone can help with I would appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance

    Seems like it was too easy, is it safe to assume that javascript and javascript functioning in Adobe PDF is a bit different learning curve?  That does help, the only thing that I'm missing is the Auto Incrementing 4 digit number.  I was toying with assigning a variable in the globals that would auto increment but having problems with how I would execute it.  Each copy of the form would be installed on each officers MDT so the number would be specific to that officer. The format will be YYYY"OFCIDNo"-####.  I would like to assign the number to the global variable on the execution of the Print Dialog.  This way the officer an clear the form if he/she needs to start over and then it stays whether or not they close the file and reopen it.
    That syntax has been very helpful to get started.
    Thank you,
    David

  • Problem with document.form.submit()

    Hi
    I have a URL like "http://blrkec30386:9080/abcd/MyServlet?Action.Admin.Init=Y&AppSignonBankId=024"
    when i write this in a plane html file (as given below) ina form and submitt the same it works fine.. but if i include the same to a jsp (environment WSAD5) it does not work. and it tries to open the url "http://blrkec30386:9080/abcd/MyServlet?" that means if it finds a question mark(?) it stops there....ane idea why this is behaving like this???
    given below is my code for plane html file.
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Home Page</title>
    </head>
    <script language="JavaScript">
         function submitForm()
         document.form10.action=""http://blrkec30386:9080/ececWeb/BANKAWAY?Action.Admin.Init=Y&AppSignonBankId=024";
         document.form10.submit();
    </script>
    <body onload="return submitForm()">
    <form name="form10" id="form10" ACTION="http://blrkec30386:9080/abcd/MyServlet?Action.Admin.Init=Y&AppSignonBankId=024" method="POST">
    </form>
    </body>
    </html>

    When you use the POST method for form submission, you should not have any parameters in the URL, the parameters are supposed to be in the body of the HTML request (one of the big differences between POST and GET requests). Your server may truncate the URL because they aren't supposed to be there, or it might move them to the body where they belong (do they show up in the processing servlet?). Some servers just pretend that they are okay and process them normally...
    Adding parameters to a POSTing form like that should be avoided, though. What you should do is make hidden input fields with the values you want. (note, this ensures that the request is formatted correctly, but you will see no parameters on the url, which is the way it is supposed to be...)

                document.form10.submit();
