Problem with PrintWriter

Hi ,
I am using java1.4
I write following code.
Problem is : In the end new file is created , but it is empty nothing is written
in that file . Why ? line1 and line2 should be placed in the file , why it is not happening ?

    The problem is probably very simple to solve. I'd recommend you check where you've initialised you PrintWriter Object (called 'out'). Make sure its been initialised (ie you've created it by calling 'new') otherwise don't be surprised if you receive this error.

  • Problem with threads running javaw

    Hi,
    Having a problem with multi thread programming using client server sockets. The program works find when starting the the application in a console using java muti.java , but when using javaw multi.java the program doesnt die and have to kill it in the task manager. The program doesnt display any of my gui error messages either when the server disconnect the client. all works find in a console. any advice on this as I havent been able to understand why this is happening? any comment would be appreciated.

    Try and post a minimum code sample of your app which
    does not work.
    When using javaw, make sure you redirect the standard
    error and standard output streams to file.

    The code works fine under a console, code is supposed to exit when the client (the other server )disconnects. the problem is that but the clientworker side of the code still works. which under console it doesnt.

  • Problem with ArrayList

    Hello,
    I am having a problem with a program I am trying to write. The idea of the program is to:
    A) read a list of movies list from a text file
    B) create an object for each movie using the information from the text file
    C) place the objects into an arrayList
    My problem is that when I check my arrayList it seems to only contain multiple copies of the first movie read from the text file. Here is my code

    Thanks for the reply, it helped but I am now getting 4 of each of the movies after adding you suggestion. This is much better now I just need to figure out why the loop is causing the extra copies. Thanks again :)

  • Problem with writing and reading using serialization

    I am having a problem with writing and reading an object that has another object in it. The purpose of the class is to write a order that has multiple items in it. And there will be several orders. This is for an IB project, where one of the requirements is to utilize a hierarchical composite data structure. That is, it is "one that contains more than one element and at least one of the elements is a composite data structure.     ok i got reading to work to a certain extent... but the prob is i cnt seem to save my innerCustOrdObj proprly...when ever i look for a record using the gotorecordbtn, the outerobject, which is the orderDetails, seems to change but the innerCustOrdObj remains the same... heres the new code..

  • Problem with java.sql.Clob and oracle.sql.CLOB

    Hi,
    I am using oracle9i and SAP web application server. I am getClob method and storing that in java.sql.Clob and using the getClass().getName() I am getting the class name as oracle.sql.CLOB. But when I am trying to cast this to oracle.sql.CLOB i am getting ClassCastException. The code is given below

    Hi Ashok
    You can get a "ClassCastException" when the JVM doesn't have access to the specific class (in your case, "oracle.sql.CLOB").
    Just check your classpath and see if you are referring to the correct jar files.

  • Problems with the Proxy Programme--Please help

    I have written a simple proxy server in the form of a servlet. I changed the proxy config of my browser to connect to this servlet hosted on the default context(http://localhost:8080) of the Tomcat 5.0.25 . Well , this servlet internally connects to the proxy of the corporate LAN . The logic that I have applied is as follows. The servlet gets the request from the client (ie the browser in this case) , extracts the headers and contents from the request, sets them to a new request that it forms and finally send this new request to the proxy. When the proxy responds, the servlet collects the response headers and contents adn writes them in its response. To sum up , this servlet transparently carries the requests and responses between the client(browser) and the corporate LAN proxy. Now the problem is this. Let's say , now I am accessing http://www.google.com.The browser sends a request to my servlet with the following headers as they are extracted by my servlet.

    I write these headers back to the client. According to what I was thinking, the client ie the browser would open a new dialog box asking for username/password owing to the presence of the "Proxy-Authenticate " header. But it does not happen that way. Rather the browser stops responsding and displays a blank page. Does anyone know why it happens this way?     Thanks for your reply. Well , I initially I thought of not pasting the code,as it was too long. But I could not help it,as I thought I must show in code what I exactly meant. That's why I followed a description of my problem with the code. You could probably have copied the code and pasted it in one of your favourite editors to take a look at it. Did you,by any chance, try to read it on the browser? And as regards reposting the same message, I can say that I did it as I felt the subject was not quite appropriate in the first posting and I was not sure as to how I could delete/alter the posting.   • Out.println() problems with large amount of data in jsp page

    I have this kind of code in my jsp page:

    out.println(myText); // size of myText is about 300 kbThe problem is that I manage to print the whole text only sometimes. Very often happens such that the receiving page gets only the first 40 kb and then the printing stops.
    I have made such tests that I split the myText to smaller parts and out.print() them one by one:

    }This produces the same kind of result. Sometimes all parts are printed but mostly only the first parts.
    I have tried to increase the buffer size but neither that makes the printing reliable. Also I have tried with autoFlush="false" so that I flush before the buffer size gets overflowed; again same result, sometimes works sometimes don't.
    Originally I use such a system where Visual Basic in Excel calls a jsp page. However, I don't think that this matters since the same problems occur if I use a browser.
    If anyone knows something about problems with large jsp pages, I would appreciate that.

    Well, there are many ways you could do this, but it depends on what you are looking for.

    I'm still having problems with this. I made
    a simple servlet that reads from and writes
    to text file. The reading part work fine on my
    computer, but the writing doesn't, not even
    an exception is thrown if the file exists that
    I'm trying to write to. If I try to create a new

    I also asked a friend of mine to try this same
    servlet on his windows computer and it works

    But now Problem is that if report is refreshed many times subsequently,
    WebServer will not take any new change in any of java file used in web-application.
    It works with the previous class only and not with updated one.

    Is there any bug in my ServletForPrinting.java ?

  • A simple problem with sateful Session beans

    Hi,
    I have a really novice problem with stateful session bean in Java EE 5.
    I have written a simple session bean which has a counter inside it and every time a client call this bean it must increment the count value and return it back.
    I have also created a simple servlet to call this session bean.
    Everything seemed fine I opened a firefox window and tried to load the page, the counter incremented from 1 to 3 for the 3 times that I reloaded the page then I opened an IE window (which I think is actually a new client) but the page counter started from 4 not 1 for the new client and it means that the new client has access to the old client session bean.
    Am I missing anything here???
    Isn�t it the way that a stateful session bean must react?

    You are injecting a reference to a stateful session bean to an instance variable in the servlet. This bean instance is shared by all servlet request, and that's why you are seeing this odd behavior.

  • Problem with the socket and the standard output stream

    Hy, I have a little problem with a socket program. It has the server and the client. The problem is that the client at one point in the program, cannot print messages in the console.
    My program does the next: the server waits connections, when a client connects to it, the server gets outputstream to the socket and writes two strings on it. Meanwhile, the client gets the inputstream to the socket and reads on it with a loop the two strings written by the server . The strings are printed by the client in the console. The problem starts here; once the read strings are printed ,I mean, after the loop, there are other System.out.println in the client but the console doesnt print anything . It curious that only when I comment on the server code the line that says: "br.readLine()" just before the catch, the client prints all the System.out.println after the loop but why?

    You are right but with this program the loop ends. As you see, the first class, the Server, writes to the socket one text file. The second class, the client, reads the text file in his socket written by the server and writes it to a file in his machine.

    Nevermind, I've fixed the problem...for some reason you can't use the writer with an applet. I've written some new code that works:

    the output of this is the following error message:

    in the question ask i was supposed to throw NegativeNumberException if the value of

    can anyone modify this code???

    The problem is this statement, reformatted to show the blocks you actually did:

    // now here you started a new block, and put a dangling 'else' at the end of it...

    else ...Furthermore, if you want to throw an exception, you can't both throw one and return a value. So I think you want this...

      throw new NegativeNumberException("cannot be negative");
    // if you get here, it is non-negative

    return true;That said, the only possible return value is 'true', so you might as well change the method to return 'void' instead.

    But you said that computedMonthlyPrecipitation is probably 0, but the following code run the do-while twelve time(which is what I want) and it depends on the while(y<computedMonthlyPrecipitation.length)
