Problem writing input to file

This code compiles fine but my input values never write out to the flat file which is called datafile.txt, the datafile.txt gets created but file size shows zero, see code below..
Thanks in advance
import java.io.*;
public class Write2File {
public static void main (String[] args)
try {
OutputStream ostream;
File outFile = new File("datafile.txt");
ostream = new FileOutputStream(outFile);
char userInput;
System.out.println("Enter Item Number and Quantity");
userInput = (char)System.in.read();
System.in.read();System.in.read();
catch(IOException ex) {
ex.printStackTrace();
}

It's because you're not writing to it. You're writing to System.out, but that is completely different, and it looks like you're not meaning for that to go to the file anyway.
You probably want something more like:
BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
System.out.println("Enter Item Number and Quantity");
String line = in.readLine();
int space = line.indexOf(' ');
int item = Integer.parseInt(line.substring(0, space);
item quantity = Integer.parseInt(line.substring(space + 1));
out = new PrintWriter(new FileWriter(outFile));
out.println("Item Number: " + item + "; quantity: " + quantity);That's written from memory. Check the API to confirm it'll work.

temp.out.flush();
for (int j=0;j<size;j=j+256){

I am having problems with my application not writing to a file on a shared drive. Actually it works perfect on one computer, but not on any other computer. Any ideas on why this would not work. Here is my code below, I think this may be an issue with permissions on the shared drive but have played with those until I am sick of it and nothing works. NPE from occurring.By not dereferencing a null reference.
Thingamabob xyz = doSomethingWhichMightReturnNull();
if (xyz != null)
// go ahead and use xyz here
If you leave out the above "if" statement check, and just willy-nilly try to use xyz when it is null, you'll get the NPE.
It is occurring on the file
name. I have never been able to stop the file name
from throwing a NPE.I don't know how that translates to some lines of your code.

@All, I got rid of the express VI, decided to work on the custom low level VIs instead. however, i have a new problem now...
I have a case statement wherein, the user selects if he wants to start generating a report. once the program enters tat loop, the program speed reduces!
can anyone please tell me why is it happening? i ahve attached the vi... also another question.. in this VI, i am capturing the unwanted data into the graph as I am indexin the graph input. how can i make a logic
that the graph captures the data only when I am switching the CREATE REPORT button (which is in the while loop). is there a way that I can append the data to the graph without creating a new graph every iteration? please let me know

• Runtime.exec--problems writing to external file

Hi. I went to http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html, and am still quite confused regarding the use of Runtime.exec, for my purposes. I want to decompile a CLASS file using javap, and then write that to a TXT file, for easier reading/input to JAVA. Now, I use the following code (a modification of what I got from http://www.mountainstorm.com/publications/javazine.html, as the "traps" article's sample code is WAY too confusing--they say the compiler had the output sent to text.txt, without even showing how in the source code they did that), but it hangs up. Modifications to the string array cause different results, such as showing the javap help menu, or saying that the class wasn't found, but I think the way I did the array here is right:
import java.util.*;
import java.io.*;
public class Test {
try {
String ls_str;
String[] cmd = {"C:\\j2sdk1.4.2_04\\bin\\javap", "-c", "-classpath", "H:\\Java\\metricTest", "metricTest > blah.txt", ""};
Process ls_proc = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
// get its output (your input) stream
DataInputStream ls_in = new DataInputStream(
ls_proc.getInputStream());
try {
while ((ls_str = ls_in.readLine()) != null) {
System.out.println(ls_str);
} catch (IOException e) {
System.exit(0);
} catch (IOException e1) {
System.err.println(e1);
System.exit(1);
System.exit(0);
}

Also, jesie, I realize that's what I need...the only
problem is, the name "test.txt" is nowhere to be found
in the source code! lolLooks like I have to explain this, then.
When you look at a Java program you'll notice that it always has a "main" method whose signature looks like this:public static void main(String[] args)When you execute that program from the command line, it takes whatever strings you put after the class name and passes them to the main program as that array of strings. For example if you run it likejava UselessProgram foo bar hippothen the "java" command takes the three strings "foo", "bar", and "hippo" and puts them into that args[] array before calling the "main" method.
That means that inside the "main" method in this case, "args[0]" contains "foo", "args[1]" contains "bar", and "args[2]" contains "hippo".
Now go back to the example and see how it lines up with that.

• Problem writing a text file to user's hard drive

I am trying to write a "GPX" file from an Oracle report to the user's hard drive on windows XP computers. To do this I want to write an ASCII file using the distribution method in the Oracle report. My URL to generate the report is as follows:
http://serveraddress.dot.ca.gov:7779/reports/rwservlet?destype=cache&destype=file&desformat=ascii&DESNAME=d:\test_report.txt&mode=character&report=gpx&userid=userxx/pwxx@mydatabase
When I run the report I get the following error: "REP-1804: Unable to open printer definition file 'ascii'"
We are running Oracle Report 10G.
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong or is there another method to write the ASCII file. If there is a method in Oracle forms, I could also do it in a form.
Thanks for the help.

desname=d:\test_report.txtThat is a file on d: drive on the server. You cannot directly write to the client PC.
For valid values of desformat:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/bi.1111/b32121/pbr_cla005.htm#i636884
Ascii is not a standard desformat. Try
mode=character&desformat=dflt
If there is a method in Oracle forms, I could also do it in a form.Yes, you can use client_text_io. Don't use that method for large files, though. Better to use text_io and copy the result from server to client:

• Problem in writing to the file

I use this labview code to read and save some electrical measurement data from a set of instruments. I am having a problem that the code stops writing to the file after a while. It stops responding too. The only way to stop it then is to use the task manager and kill it. The code was written for an older version of labview but now I am using labview 9. Everything else seems updated but there's a section that uses Write characters to file vi and that may be causing the problem. I made a few futile attempts to change it. I would highly appreciate if someone takes a look at it and could tell me what's going wrong.

I will second aeastet's advice - please look into how state machines and producer/consumer loops work and use them. Your program is very inefficient, but is very similar to what I would have written before I learned about state machines and producer/consumer loops. Start with the LabVIEW help and go from there. These forums and the National Instruments website can give you lots of help.
Two things that will help you for this particular problem:
At every loop iteration, you are opening the file, seeking to the end of it, appending data, then closing the file. This is very slow and the code you use, as mentioned above, will not work if the file size exceeds 2GBytes. I would recommend you open the file once, then use the write primitive to write to it until you finish, then close it. You do not need the write character to file VI. No seeking. No repetitive opening and closing. You can either open and close outside the loop, or use case structures and boolean flags (as you have done for other things) to open and close inside the loop.
After you write to the file, if you choose to graph, you are reopening the file, reading the entire thing, and plotting this data. This is another major slowdown that will only get worse as your file gets bigger. You would be far better off caching the data in a shift register and plotting it on demand. It would probably take less memory, as well. You may want to read the tutorial Managing Large Data Sets in LabVIEW.
One last tip. You use Value properties to read and set the values of front panel controls. Local variables are far faster (about three orders of magnitude). However, do not make the mistake of using local variables for data storage. Data is wires. Local variables are a way to communicate to the front panel. You seem to have this down, but a reminder to others reading this thread is in order.
Let us know if you need more explanation or help. Good luck!

• Director 12- can't create a windows projector - problem writing file error

I am trying to create a windows projector of a project. when I get the following error - problem writing file - file name- Can't compress file that has been modified and not saved. The file has not been modified and has been saved. Any help would be great.

Hi.
You say you have tried publishing to a new empty folder. From the video I can see that the folder has table1.app in there (25 secs in) which is a Mac projector that has been published.
Yet you have Windows Projector checkbox ticked at the start of the video.
I publish Mac and Windows projectors to entirely seperate folders as a matter of practice.
I call the folders "Published" and "PublishedMac" and that is where the respective projectors for each piece of software lives.
Perhaps there is some mix up between Mac and Windows publishing that is going on because
you are publishing both to the same folder?
Hope this helps.

• Error writing to temporary file location. If this problem persists contact customer support. (-70)

I've been trying to update/install Creative Cloud applications via Adobe Application Manager and no matter which application I try to install I receive this error: "Error writing to temporary file location. If this problem persists contact customer support. (-70)"
Prior to this I was having trouble running updates to an application, and it told me I needed "Administrative Privleges" to do so. I have tried everything I can think of with the assistance of the Apple Store. Can anyone at Adobe help me?

You do not have the permission on the TMP folder for write because of which you are facing the issue.
Tmp folder is hidden on the Mac hence you have to unhide it first to check the permission and getting it corrected.
I would recommend you to check the install/update from
1) New user account
2) Run the Disk repair utitlity
if these steps doesn't help then contact support to get the permission corrected.

Did you used to have service and now suddenly you don't?
This happened to me a few years back, and several other iPhone users in my neighborhood, and after a while on the phone with AT&T they figured out that a technician had recently adjusted the receiver/sender on the tower and it was slightly off. They sent them back up and I actually had a better signal after than I did before it went out.
I would call AT&T and explain the issue you are having and see if they can fix it.
If you never had service there then like wjosten said it's probably just a bad zone.
Hope you get it sussed out.

• Problems with clearing files from input type="file"

I'm using ‹input type="file".. to upload files in some javascript.
The page containing the ‹input type="file".. is not reloaded, so data on the ‹input type="file".. is not cleared.
I've done this with form.reset() in IE, which cleares files from ‹input type="file".., but this doesn't work in Firefox. The next time I try to submit a file two files are submitted.
I've even tried to replace the ‹input type="file".. to clear all data, but if i replace it with a ‹input type="file".. with same id, the files is still there from before.
So my question is, how do I clear files selected
''(Edited to make the HTML code display properly -TonyE)''

The firmware/file system on the iPhone is locked unless you jailbreak your iPhone. The sync function via a USB cable and iTunes is the only way to add or retreive data unless your phone is jailbroken (and that is limited to music, movies, contacts, pictures, etc)
There are applications in App Store which will create a file storage system on your iPhone and allow your PC to access those folders/files via WiFi network (iFiles is one, there are others)
iBluetooth requires your phone to be jailbroken.
You can use a bluetooth connection from iPhone to PC to play music only thru the PC speakers without having a jailbroken phone.
If all you want to do is transfer pictures, iTunes will do that. It is already set up, just plug in the phone, and go to the photos tab and choose which picture app on the PC to transfer the photos into. Then everytime you sync your phone, it pulls the new pictures off the camera roll.
