Problem writing to Port A, B, C on PCI-2025E

I have a VI written to control some 5V devices (solenoid valves) using port write. I am using a PCI-2025E card. This worked fine on DI0 (the digital I/O port available on positions 1-50), but when I switch to digital port A (on position 51-100 of the card) with the same devices, I don't get enough voltage out of the card to power on the valve (reads 1V instead of 5V across the device when the power to that channel is on). The same thing happens with digital ports B & C. When I run the Test Panel in MAX for ports A, B or C set as output, I get the error code "10613". Is there something different about ports A B C from DI0 (port O)?
Is there some diagnostic I can run to test the PCI-2025E? (The computer it's in is not
network-connected.)
Thanks.

Sorry to confuse things with the different voltages! Here's a summary of what I have (see attached doc). I have a PCB with valves, manifold and switches all integrated. The board originally came with 12V valves (0.65W), but I want to control this thing with digital I/O ports via LabVIEW, so I swapped out all the valves for 5V (0.65W) valves. They are wired into the white surface mount power connectors, and the board is powered with 5V (upper left on first picture). I can control the valves manually by flipping each switch to "on". With the switch in "auto" and the wires from the 25-pin connector connected to the I/O block, I have a VI that uses a digital port write to control the valves.
This works absolutely fine for
DIO on the PCI-6025E, but the valves simply won't open when I change the wiring and run the same program using PA, PB or PC. From what you have said, I assume this is because there isn't enough current coming out of the 82C55A chip. I really want to use the built-in relays on my PCB since this means I can use the 25-pin connector to interface with the NI card, so the external relay module isn't a good option.
If you think the 6527 will do the job I need (exactly what DIO of the 6025E does!) then I'll go with that one. From looking at the current specs for the 6025E(13 mA ouput at 5V), I can't say I understand exactly why this one port works, but it does.
You guys are great for getting back to my questions so quickly.

  • Problems Reading/Writing Parallel Port Data, Status & control Registers Using In Port.vi and Out port.vi

    Hi,
Can anyone there help me Please with the problem. I am trying to
communicate with the parallel port using my program which i have
attached to the message. I am running LabVIEW 7.0 Professional with
application builder. All the program does is reads and writes to the
three parallel port registers. It runs FINE!!! in my computer. But when
i built an executable (see attached) and tried running on a different
computer (with LabVIEW Runtime engine 7.0 installed) the program does
not read/write to the registers. The target PC had the parallel port in
SPP mode just like mine. I can't seem to understand whats going wrong?
Can anyone please help me if you know the right answer.

    Hi Guys,
I too have a problem using "Out Port.vi", but of a diferent kind. I use this VI to control the  Parallel Port which in  turn controls a small circuit. I use only two data pins, DP-2 and DP-4 for this purpouse. I use LV 7.1 Professional Development version in a Windows 2000 operating system. Now, my main problem is that my code runs fine (both is development and .exe forms) in my development computer, but when I try to run the .exe version in  other computers (Windows XP operating system), it asks for a "protocol file" while starting (look at the attached picture).
Now, I really have no idea what kind of a protocol file it asks for and just click "ok" and proceed to work, the most interesting part is that the code works well as I expected. So, my only problem is that it asks for a protocl file which I want to avoid. As with the application building, I do all that is  required like including the sub VIs (self developed), creating an installer, enabling the port access, and creating a proper .ini fine. I also use the Out Port.vi from the AccessHW library.
I have my doubts on two fronts,
    1) With the version conflict, since my development computer runs with Windows 2000 and my target computers all run with Windows XP
    2) With the Out Port.vi which further contains a small VI "Output Word to Port.vi" in it and that further contains Call Library Function Node, which might call soem external files, like what my problem is.(look at the attached picture)
I don't have answers to these questions and may be my problem is in different place, but I would like to hear from anyone who could give me a helping hand. I am in a situation where I could not disclose my code.
    Thanks in advance,
    mohan

Windows 8?  Update your video card driver from the GPU maker's website. If you cannot update your driver (like on a locked laptop machine), then set the GPU drawing mode in Photoshop to "Basic" and relaunch the app.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
First, empty the Trash, if possible.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) 2>&- | wc -l | pbcopy
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be a number. It's automatically copied to the Clipboard. Please paste it into a reply.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.

  • Director 12- can't create a windows projector - problem writing file error

I am trying to create a windows projector of a project. when I get the following error - problem writing file - file name- Can't compress file that has been modified and not saved. The file has not been modified and has been saved. Any help would be great.

    Hi.
You say you have tried publishing to a new empty folder.  From the video I can see that the folder has table1.app in there (25 secs in) which is a Mac projector that has been published.
Yet you have Windows Projector checkbox ticked at the start of the video.
I publish Mac and Windows projectors to entirely seperate folders as a matter of practice.
I call the folders "Published" and "PublishedMac" and that is where the respective projectors for each piece of software lives.
Perhaps there is some mix up between Mac and Windows publishing that is going on because
you are publishing both to the same folder?
    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot import photos from camera, "problem writing to the volume"

I recently upgraded to iPhoto 09 from iPhoto 5. While everything seemed ok in terms of Faces and Places and Events etc, today I was trying to import some photos from my camera and suddenly iPhoto 09 gave an error *"iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem writing to the volume containing your iPhoto library"* somewhere mid-way through the import. I don't understand why my own internal HD would have a problem writing to.
Luckily, I had made a bootable backup before upgrading to iLife 09, so I just booted from that external FireWire disk, opened iPhoto 5 and as usual, it imported all the photos without any issues. But I do not want to go back and forth just for importing the photos. So, Apple, please update the iPhoto 09 with necessary bug fixes.
Has anyone else experienced this issue ? any solutions ?
    Thanks.

    Your stated problem
I was trying to import some photos from my camera and suddenly iPhoto 09 gave an error "iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem writing to the volume containing your iPhoto library" somewhere mid-way through the import.
As I stated I have NOT seen this problem before and it is clearly a specific problem with your system not an iPhoto bug
Then you are not watching enough. There are several reports here itself :

Issue was user had their iPhoto library on a FAT 32 formated disk - nothing at all like your personal problem

  • HP Pavillion dv6-1245dx problems writing to MicroSDHC card - errors

I've purcahsed two different brands of MicroSDHC 32GB cards. They will allow me to write 1-2GB of info before giving me an error code: 0x80070052. I was using Windows 7 and read that this was an issue that was going to be resolved in Windows 8, so I installed Windows 8 on my laptop (It's legitimate through Microsoft's MSDN program).
I went looking for product specifications for my laptop on the HP site and it just gives this vague answer: 5-in-1 integrated Digital Media Reader for Secure Digital cards, MultiMedia cards, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, or xD Picture cards.
It doesn't specify SD, MicroSD, MicroSDHC or any variation. I am inclined to believe that the laptop doesn't support cards as large as 32GB. The largest card I've ever tried before this was an standard size 8GB SDHC, so at least I know it will handle the SDHC part. However, I have had issues with 32GB USB drives as well, where the drive gets half full and then starts having problems writing (no error codes though).
I'd like to know if MicroSDHC cards as large as 32GB are or aren't supported before I commit to purchasing a third card. I've tried multiple adapters as well, so I know it's not 1) Me trying to stick a tiny card in a large hole, 2) poor contact between the adapter and the laptop, or 3) poor contact between the card and the adapter.
    Thank you.

card readers are prone to problems with the internal contacts, particularly multi-card readers. If you get a card inserted a little  bit wrong it can cause it to go out. HP should warrant the problem but if you can't get relief, the expresscard multi-readers are cheap and work well. My laptop has no built in card reader so that is what I use.

  • Problem writing to serial port

    Hi All,
I am very new to LabVIEW (just a couple of months). I need to communicate with a serial port of an Advanced Energy RF generator (Ovation) serial port (AE Bus)
The manual talks about little endian conversion, CSR and checksum that I just can't make it work. does anybody know how to write and read to this serial port?
I have used the write and read to serial port from examples with no luck and no response from the generator. I have attached the generator's manual here, the serial commands section starts at page 65 (4-25)
Has anybody written a program to talk to Ovation RF generator? can anybody help me out and get me started? I am stuck!!!. ... appreciate your help. thanks.

Thanks... so I started with the basic serial write and read, enetered hex text strings into the serial write, including the checksum and what I read back is not always correct because for example I need to calculate the XOR in the program and not just eneter it as a hex value. I should also put the write and read into a loop because I will be writing and reading to serial port 2 dozen times.
I am working with two devices, one is the generator, the other is a controller board that has a very similar serial bus structure as the generator's AE serial bus. the controller board has stepper motor drivers that move two variable capacitors. for the generator, I need to turn the power on and off and set to different power levels. for the control/stepper motor driver board: I need to read the values from a text file(attached). the text file has 3 table, table1, column1 is the number of steps that the stepper motor will move and column2 is the nominal capacitor values for C1. same thing table2; values are number of steps versus nominal cap values for C2. I need to creat a matrix such that to move the C1 to steps listed in the table, and for every step increment in C1, I need to move the C2 motor to 20 different position (listed in the table3 that has the desired percent value of total capacitance ) position and make a measurement of the impedance of the capacitors with agilant E5061 network analyzer and write the data back into the same text file at the end where it says "IMPEDANCE_REAL     in Ohm    one line per C1 position"  and into a excel sheet too while taking a measurement... and do the same thing all over again for C2 versus C1. I think  I need to use the producer consumer design pattern eventually when I get the details worked out first.
    any suggestion? .... much thanks.

  • Problem with Com port

Hi guys. I have written a driver to communicate with a COM port (FTDI serial adapter).  On the pc from which I'm writing now (windows XP) it works properly, but when I try to use the same driver on another pc (win 7) labview see the port but isn't able to comunicate . I tried also to use a software like Tera Term to see if the com works and trying the echo it works good...so I don't understand where the problem is on this w7 pc...
should I install some labview drivers on the w7 pc? I have already installed
    NI run time installer
    NI max
    NI Visa run time

NI Serial won't help (its for NI serial cards not 3rd party USB-Serial bridges)
LabVIEW sees the VCP in Win7 but does not communicate: Works on XP: "Something" happens with Echo on from teraterm.
    I'l guess either:
Wrong serial cable or settings and you are fooling yourself with the tereterm app and are seeing the echo only.  With Echo on any character sent should be doubled.
Outdated FTDI Driver that does not support Win7.

  • Problems with serial port synchronization.

    Hello to all!
I have an oxygen analyser, the equipment has a serial port for communication, being based the communication on the AK communication protocol.
In order to request to the equipment that responds with the measured value, the following command in hexadecimal is sent:  (02 78474B4FE20 03), obtaining like hexadecimal answer the following: (02 58474B4FE203220323038353030 03), in which it is included the measured value.
I need to have the measurement from equipment in a PC, using the AK protocol and the serial port. For this, I have made a (vi) that it writes the read measure command in the serial port, wait a time (150ms) and read the port, this way everything works correctly, but there is a problem and it is that the communication is very slow due to the delay between the writing and the reading.
If I eliminate the delay, the synchronization between the writing and the reading is lost, appearing readings of value 0. I think that is because the PC read the port and the analyser not yet has responded to the request from PC, and this happens in spite of using the options of synchronization of visa read and visa write vi's, (Do I/O synchronously).
I would need to design a (vi) that hoped that the equipment had sent the last data, and then it sends the reading request again, being able this way to make the communication more fast and to eliminate the erroneous readings.
I have attached two examples, first is (vi) that works well, but has the problem of being slow due to the delay, and the second analyzes the received message to know when this complete and then it writes another message of read to analyser, but it appears to me an error (ocurred AT sights read... Time out) after minutes.
I would thank any aid that somebody could offer to me.
    Greetings and thanks!

I don't have a serial port connected on this machine at the moment (they are becoming rare on laptops!) but try this code as a starting place. I notice in your second example you are basing the read on receiving a specific string, in the one I've made you can set the bytes at port compare to a number equivalent in length. I haven't tried it, as I mentioned before, so I appologize for any errors in my code.

  • Problems with USB port and song transferring;

Hi! I just got an iPod and I am having problems with it. My computer doesn't have a Hi-Speed USB port, even if it's 9 months old. Some of my friends don't have it either but they still are able to transfer songs onto their iPod. For mine, it keeps saying "Do Not Disconnect." I waited for 5 hours last time I got it and it still isn't working.
I also updated my iPod software today and the iPod icon isn't appearing on the bar to the left in iTunes. I'd really appreciate any help on this! As well as if I really need to do something about the ports or if it could function like this normally.
