Problems migrating a database from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.1
Hello,
I'm migrating a database on a test machine. I've got the database on 10.2.0.4 and i've installed the 11.2.0.1 (Standard edition). The OS is windows server 2003 SP2
Using the migration assistant, after it does the analisis and shows the conclusions (before step 1), it throws a warning.
It sais that it can't update some components because it doesn't have proper actualization command files. These components are OLAP analytic workspace, OLAP catalog, Spatial and Oracle OLAP API.
I've tryed installing them from OUI, but it fails with an OUI-10150.
It can be that standard edition doesn't have that components? As long as I remember, I did a clean new installation of the 11.2 software, standard edition.
Thanks
Hi,
is your 10.2.0.4 version standard or enterprise?
I think you should install enterprise 11G R2 and then upgrade. because standard edition doesn't have all feature which are there in 10.2.0.4 so upgrade cannot happen.

How can i Migrate a database from DB2 to SQL Server 2008r2.
Hi Gurus,
Kindly help me letting me know the process for migrating the database from DB2 to SQL Server.
1) Is there any way to migrate a database from DB2 to SqlServer. (My assumption is we can not migrate database, if wrong correct me gurus).
2) Or we can only transfer data from that DB2 database to SQL Server (Using SSIS packages).
Please help me knowing the process to migrate the data from DB2 server to MSSQL server. Even am reading the documents available in the web.
Thanks in advance.. :)Microsoft provide a migration assistant for DB2 to SQL Server:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=45296
SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) is a free supported tool from Microsoft that simplifies database migration process from DB2 to SQL Server and Azure SQL DB. SSMA automates all aspects of migration including migration assessment analysis, schema and
SQL statement conversion and data migration.
Hope that helps -

Hello,
I'm newie in working with RMAN and I have problem with restoring database from backup set in my testcase.

Problem Converting standby database from snapshot to physical
Any help willl be greatly appreciated...
I am trying to convert a standby database that is in "snapshot" mode back to "physical" standby and I am encountering problems in the process from the "DGMGRL" command line.
Both instances are on the same physical machine. Everything was working fine untill I tried to change the db from snapshot to physical. The DGMGRL starts the conversion process and is able to shutdown but when trying to restart the instance is fails and reports that the service is not defined.
Here is the issue I am facing:

So, here is the status now....with a little background...
After my original post, I started to read the manuals and I found the sql command to convert the database back from snapshot to physical standby (sb).
That worked fine and I had my snapshot sb back to physical sb.
So when you posted the suggestion, I already had my db in physical sb mode. I said no problem, I will convert it back to snapshot and then back again using dgmgrl instead of sql+
Well here is how my listener is configured now.
SID_LIST_I11G1 =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = I11G1.MHOST)
(ORACLE_HOME = c:\app\mmj\product\11.1.0\db_1)
(SID_NAME = I11G1)
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = I11G1SB.MHOST)
(ORACLE_HOME = c:\app\mmj\product\11.1.0\db_1)
(SID_NAME = I11G1SB)
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = I11G1SB_DGMGRL)
(ORACLE_HOME = c:\app\mmj\product\11.1.0\db_1)
(SID_NAME = I11G1SB)
Then using dgmgrl I tried to change the db from p-sb to s-sb and the results are not good....

Not sure if the following (notice the typo in the service name) in the parameter (log_archive_dest_2) definition on the standby d/b has anything to do with this. I did not get this error when I initially converted to s-sb.
also I checked all my session notes, I did not type the command to set this parameter on the standby d/b and so it was not a typo on my part. However, it seems to have come from the rman script supplied with the obe. This script is supposed to clone the primary d/b to a standby db and in the process replace the string /i11g1/ with /i11g1sb/.

Given all this, the archive logs seem to be shipping correctly to the sby d/b.

I am tempted to start all over again, but I'd rather use this opportunity to debug this issue (as a learning exercise). I can always start from scratch. That brings up another Q: What do I need to do to blow away all traces of the stand by database (including all the archive logs etc...) keeping my primary intact. I'd also like to blow away all snapshot and archive logs for the primary as well. -
How to Migrate my database from SQL Server 2000 to Oracle
I want to transfer my database from SQL Server 2000 to Oracle, Can I do this without using Oracle Migration Workbench ??
Please help me.
Thanks in advance
Vicky... :-)Do you have a good technical reason for not wanting to use the Migration Workbench?
Given that it's free and does a hell of a lot of the work for you, why wouldn't you use it?
Other than that, I would say you would be on your own...
cheers,

Problem to copy database from the hot backup
Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.4.0
SunOS 5.8
Hi all,
I wrote the UNIX script to copy the production Oracle 9i database from the hot backup to the Oracle 9i development database. I already did it manually without any problems using Metalink document Note:18070.1
The script stops after the command
recover database until cancel using backup controlfile ,
because I have to apply all archived logs manually.
How is it possible to get rid of this problem and automatically apply archived logs?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Alex
P.S. We are not authorized to use RMAN.P.S. We are not authorized to use RMAN. We dont get your point?
Who stops you using RMAN?
How did you take the hot backup then?
There are couple of good notes on metalink, and below is one of them,

Problems connecting with database from java API
I've benn using XSQLRequest and I found a problem with
connections, because it can't connect from Java to database, but
if I access to a .xsql it works.
And also if I link to a .xsql first and after that I try to
access to Database form my servlet it works. So I think my
problem is to initialize the XSQLConfig.xml file in OC4J server.
Thanks in advanceWould you provide the way you deploy your XSQL app to OC4J and
how you get JDBC connection using JAVA? I execute the next code more or less:
miXSQLRequest = new XSQLRequest(XSQLQuery.getDOM
(),null);
miXSQLRequest.process(htParamsIn, pWriter, pErrors);
but and it's probabily my mistake I don't get any conecction
from the session or something similar because I thought that
it's made by XSQLRequest, and the XSQLRequest class takes the
default values of the connection pool from the file
XSQLConfig.xml (I put this file inside the lib directory of
OC4J) as the XSQLServlet.
Thanks for your help -

1. Copy the pfile to the new ORACLE_HOME on d:\
2. Change the ORACLE_HOME using SET ORACLE_HOME=<NEW HOME ON D:\>, from cmd window.
3. shutdown the instance.
4. copy the datafiles to there new location on D:\ (including the control files)
5. edit the PFILE and specify the new control files location (under D:\)
5. startup exclusive mount pfile=<Point to current PFILE>
4. Change datafiles names ;
alter database rename file '<OLD FILE PATH>' to '<NEW FILE PATH>';You can find the current location of the datafiles using :

Migration of Database from Oracle to SQL Server in Business Objects XI 3.1
Hi,
Currently, We are working on Business Objects XI 3.1 and Database is Oracle 11g. And now we have the requirement to migrate from Oracle 11g to SQL Server 2008 R2.
I would like to know what are the key points to be considered in business objects XI 3.1 when the database is migrated from oracle to SQL server.
If anyone can share the Impact analysis document for Business Objects, it would be great.
Thanks,
Lavanyaa TPIf you use business objects tools for such migration , the impact should be minimal.
CMSDBCopy mechanism from CCM should work fine for this purpose. -
Need help in migration of database from 8i to 10g
Hi,
I have to upgrade the database of our application form 8.1.6 to 10g release2 version.
I am new in this job.
Can anyoneone give the guideline that in which part i have to taken care of specially.
Thanks,Hi,
here i have one more idea:
if you only want a dump for the Structure, use the "CONTENT=METADATA_ONLY" in expdp.
In this case, you will not have data, but only the Datastructures (Users, tablespaces, tables etc.)
You can control, what is transferred by doing an impdp with the parameter "SQLFILE=filename.sql".
In this file you will find all statements; p.ex "create user User5 identified by values '44U7369872587307';"
after Importing this (without sqlfile=) in your new instance, you can later import from a full dump only the needed schemata
# impdp ... .... SCHEMAS=HR,U555 ..... TABLE_EXISTS_ACTION=REPLACE
To import tehe schemata online in your new instance, you need a databaselink p.ex OLD_DB (user system).
in impdp you can use the parameter NETWORK_LINK=OLD_DB instead of DUMPFILE=
-much success- -

Migration of database from Postgresql to Oracle
We planning to migrate a PostgreSQL database to Oracle. Is there any free tools which can be used for the same.?
Thanks in advance.
Syam Sankarhello,
check http://otn.oracle.com/tech/migration/content.html
for further information on migrating different types of data to oracle. the easiest way would be to import your foxpro data into microsoft access and then migrate this access-database using the GUI tool you also find at the location mentioned above.
