Procedure and syntax for placing image paths in mysql fields please
I set up a directory type data base with 10 varchar fields. This directory presents info on the people at the company in both a master and detail display. Works fine. Now I want to add a thumbnail photo to display on the master page and a larger photo to display on the detail page. The photos are of each employee. I want to store the photos in a separate image folder, not in the database itself. Does anyone know the procedure to setting this up? I have done several searchs for a solution to this quest but the answers found are short on info. It would be very helpful to learn the step-by-step procedure using dreamweaver as well as the exact syntax that would go into the field that would call for the correct photo to be shown when the company directory is displayed, both in the master page and the detail page. you can use the web.show_document built-in in Forms to open a new Browser window wit a request to a URL that reads and serves teh image from the database. Forms9i Forms allows you to use Javascript within web.show_document which may be required to obtain a handle to the opened window fur further reference. All you need is to write a Java Servlet to read the image from the database and pass the record's unique ID with the Forms URL request. I don't have a servlet code for you, but if you serach teh Web I woudl be surprised if you don't find a sample.

Difference between CS3 and CS4 when placing images, percentage not kept
There is some kind of difference between CS3 and CS4 when placing images. The images I've dealt with right now were vector images but it might apply to all kinds of images.
When replacing an existing image, the CS4 behaviour is to let the image fill up the frame. In CS3 the percentage was set to 100% as default (the % you see when selecting the image, not the container).
Also when replacing an impage in CS4, the "inner" image frame is kept, while in C3, the percentage was kept.
Is there some kind of placement preferences / settings to let CS4 act the same wat as CS3 did, when placing an image?

If you click and drag a loaded image place cursor the entire image will be be scaled to fit the proportionally drawn frame -- a huge timesaver if you mostly place uncropped art. If you want 100% of the image at 100% scale, just click and release -- same as before, or as before you can pre-draw a frame and place into it and your image will come in cropped at 100% (unless you've changed the fitting options for the frame before placing).

ADD FILES FOR UPLOAD - IMAGE PATHS DO NOT WORK IN WIDGETS

I'm trying to add my own images to a widget I bought from Qooqee - the Wrapper_v2 image slider. But when I try to add my own images with the image path it doesn't work. I've tried adding the image with 'Add Files for Upload' - and then using the full path which I get from right clicking on it in the assets panel - but it still doesn't work.
Most of the widgets require you to either specify the image path, or an external URL. I do not want to use a third party image hosting site to get URL's for every image I want to use on the site - so I just need to know what I'm doing wrong with the Add files for Upload - why do my file paths not work in the widgets?Provide the name of the program you are using so a Moderator may move this message to the correct program forum

Best practices for placing images in epubs
Okay, I've read the books, I've watched the tutes and I'm still at a loss on the best way to add images to InDesign 5.5 documents that I will convert to ePub. The images are created in Photoshop at 300 dpi and sized at 800by600. And yet when I place them in InDesign and create the ePub, the images display poorly in ADE and other readers. What is the magic formula for adding images to my ePubs?

Very good point to look at the images within the epub file. They are 72 dpi images, so it would seem that InDesign is indeed lowering the resolution. I had thought I tried every variation of the available settings within InDesign to avoid this but it would seem to not be the case. If you have any specific suggestions about what setting is causing this, that would be great.
Viewing the images in the target device is of course ideal. I'm creating this for a wide range of online bookstores, so what device it will be viewed on can't be known. Since ADE drives more than 50 devices, I had hoped that would at least prove to be a reliable base of some sort -- disappointing to hear that ADE can not be trusted in that regard. I had assumed I could proof the book in that before converting to mobi and proofing on a Kindle.
Why would anyone insert 300 dpi images, you ask? In its publishing guidelines, Amazon says: "To future-proof the content, save images in 300 dpi" Is this then bad advice on their part? Elizabeth Castro echoes this recommendation in her excellent book on the subject, by the way. It's rather difficult to know just what to do, I must admit. But I guess we're still in the early days of eBook creation, with best practices still being in a state of flux.

Photoshop slice tool and Save for Web image quality. Will it affect prints?
I want to slice a large photo into multiple smaller (4x6) printable photos to arrange in a 12x12 inch scrapbook binder pocket (made of of 4x6 pockets). I need to order separate 4x6s online so tiling in the print options is not what I need.
The slow way I know to do this involves cropping and saving each section (maybe even recording this action to do batch processing). However, another way is to use the slice tool to quickly divide up the sections then "Save for Web...". I can adjust some parameters, but I'm afraid there are other automatic adjustments that I don't want. For example, all images are converted to 96 dpi instead of the original 300 dpi. The number of pixels remains the same so I don't think there will be problems printing the picture.
My question is: does the Save for Web function reduce image quality in any way when printing (it is obviously intended to be used to optimize images for websites)? Are there settings in "Save for Web" that would optimize for high quality prints? Is there a better way to tile an image?
I have not yet compared any prints.

CS6If you understand that something will do something you do not want like convert to 96 DPI as long as it does not resample you can always convert back to 300 DPI. If you want 6 4x6 to form a 12x12 you must start with an square 1:1 aspect ratio image. That you resample to 12"x 12" at 300 dpi if you want 6 4x6 300 dpi images.
If the original images vary in size and aspect ratio you need to crop them square or add two borders to make them square. The rest is easy to do with an action.
The square crop or border can be automated with a little scripting. If crop a center crop would be the route to go. My crafting actions package contains more the a dozen scripts to be used within action. One is a plug-in script that would make center cropping a snap two steps menu File>Automat>AspectsRatioSelection followed menu Image>Crop. Add a menu Image>Size set side to 12" and resolution 300 DPI and you have your starting 12"x12" 300 dpi image.
Flatten the image make your first 4"x6" selection copy past to add it as a layer. Select the background select the next 4x6 area copy and paste repeat that process till you have added the 6 4"X6" layers. Then delete the background, Select all, target all layers and use layer>Align layers to selection>Top edge then repeat align to left edge. the Image>Trim you have your 6 4x6 in a stack. You can the use Adobe Photoshop Script Export Layer to file. All automated in an action however the last step Export layers to files is interactive for its not a plug-in script. So if you batch it you keen to hang around to interact with the last step for each image.
You could also write you own export script that would not need human intervention to use instead of Adobe interactive script.

Rasterize settings for placed images?
How do I place images in AI to make sure that they come in at a high quality? Is there some setting that controls the rasterize settings?
Thanks.Placed images are placed at whatever resolution the original file is at. You can't directly control the ppi of any placed image.
If you are using raster effects (drop shdows, glows, etc) or are specifically rasterizing content within AI, you'll want to set the Document Raster Effects Settings (in the Effects menu) to "high" or 300ppi. -
Storing Uploaded Image Path into Mysql

Keyword and metadata for non-image files.
Hi, everyone.
As I have started to use Bridge to browse files in my system including those that are not image files I tried to find information on how Bridge handles the assignment of keywords and metadata to these files but couldn't find anything on Adobe's site.
Considering non-image files such as PDF's, MS Office (Word, Excel), Text, HTML, and others, how does Bridge handles the assignment of metadata and keywords ? Where are they stored ? Embedded in the files themselves or in a sidecar file similar to what happens to RAW image files ?
I've read some posts from other users about problems with this. Some report that they are able to assign keywords but these aren't maintained once the file is re-saved.
Is there a manual on Adobe's site that covers the handling of keywords and metadata in Bridge ?

Being a digital archivist dealing primarily with pages digitized from the turn of the 20th Century for a religious sect I am highly involved in the usage of keywords. Each page of a work, be it either a volume of a newspaper or a book, contains keywords. I do not use side-car files but instead incorporate my keywords directly into the resultant TIF file.
So I used your posting to see what the answer was. To that end I am presently working on a 1922 title, Thirty-One Years of Organized Work in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Louisiana by Church of the Brethren from 1891 to 1922, that will consist of slightly over 500 pages. To test your question I placed the title of the work as a keyword. I then used Bridge's find ability. It did not work.
I forgot that Bridge converts all commas into semi-colons. And changing the colons into semi-colons still returned no results. An examination of the keywords tab showed the string broken down in to sections. Searching for the longest string showed the problem. Returning to my keyowrd string I removed all instances of the semi-colons and re-searched. This resulted in a properyl found file.
So. The longest string I have tested to date is 120 characters, the title of the work minus the commas. I suspect that Curt is correct in his assumption that it is limited by the operation system. I tested this theory by incorporating a double string (without the commas) of my book's title. This was 241 characters including the space between the duplicated title. The search was successful. A triple set of the title returned no hits.

How do I change Transfer Syntax for DICOM images using sample Java sources?

I tested using Note:876534.1 Java API samples. It works fine when I put the "Implicit VR Little Endian" DICOM file.
I could insert the DICOM file, also I could get the all DICOM tags correctly by SQL.
But I could not get all DICOM tags when inserted "Explicit VR Little Endian" and "JPEG Lossy" DICOM file.
Also I could not find how to change the Transfer Syntax to orddicom Java API.
How do I change following simple java source for inserting different Transfer Syntax DICOM file?

1. TIFF + XML metadata => DICOM image file
you can use the method ord_dicom.createDicomImage(src blob, metadata xmltype, dest blob) to create the DICOM image in a blob.
2, then use the ORDDicom constructor ORDDIcom(data blob) to create an ORDDicom object
3. then use the ORDDicom processCopy method to change the image properties.
Alternatively you can change image properties on the input TIFF image (using ORDImage methods) then create the DICOM image. If you are happy with the image properties then you can skip step 3.

Inconsistencies between sidebar and desktop for disk images
Hi;
I'm tweaking my settings to keep just those things visible that I want to have visible, and I have noticed that a mounted disk image is treated differently by different parts of Finder Prefs. In the General tab of Finder Prefs, I make a mounted disk image appear on the desktop (or not) but checking/unchecking the External disks checkbox. So the desktop treats a disk image as an external disk, not a hard disk.
However, in the Sidebar tab of the Finder prefs, a mounted Disk Image is treated as a Hard disk, not an external disk.
Can anyone shed any light on why this should be?On my system, both the General & Sidebar tabs fail to display mounted disk images only if the "CDs, DVD's, & iPods" box is not checked. Weird, but at least it is consistent.
