Process and commit behind a comand button

new bee question
i have created a application to update data within the database (ora 9.2).
the user wishes to press a button that updates the data commits and then exits the form back to the previous form
all seams easy !
but i can only do it in two stages
one button to update the data and one to commit and route back
the snip is from my attempt, please point me in the correct location
todate.setValue("01/01/2006");
tostatus.setValue("XXX");
BindingContainer bindings = getBindings();
OperationBinding operationBinding =
bindings.getOperationBinding("Commit");
Object result = operationBinding.execute();
if (!operationBinding.getErrors().isEmpty()) {
return null;
return "home";
}

Hi,
if you double click the button you use for submit then adding you example code will do the trick.
If you need to automatically add the update date when changing the data, you may want to consider perforimg this change on teh Business Component layer (assuming ADF BC). Have a look at the developer guide on otn.oracle.com/products/jdev for an example of how to add before DML operations

  • When I use the Norton Safe Search box in Firefox 3.6.19 the letters that I type group together and disappear behind the search button at the end of Norton Safe Search....any help?

    I don't know how much more I can add...However, when I type in the Norton Safe Search box up to the search button in Norton Safe Search I can continue to type but I can't see what is being typed because it doesn't allow me to see the trailing end of what I'm typing. This along with the fact that the letters and words don't always automatically advance a space, they group together as I'm typing and I have to stop, provide a space and continue once again. This only happens in Mozilla Firefox, I'm using Firefox 3.6.19. This doesn't happen in the Norton Safe Search Box in Internet Explorer

    Maybe another extension that you have installed is causing that problem with that Norton Safe Search add-on.
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes <br />
    Disable all other extensions and see if Norton works correctly. <br />
    I so, start enabling extensions one at a time until you find the culprit.
    If not, create a new Profile and verify that Norton is the only extension that appears in the new Profile and see if it works correctly. <br />

    If not, the problem is with the Norton add-on.

  • Need to Return immediately and commit the App Module on a different thread

    I have an action that I want to return fast (immediately) but the server processing takes longer than acceptable. The results of the operation don't matter to the page submitting it and I want it to be able to navigate away even if the operation is not complete. I want to either be able to send a non-blocking server event from the browser or on the server side start a new thread that performs the operation allowing the original thread to return immediately. The new thread would need access to an Application Module in order to commit data. How would I go about accomplishing this?
    Some thoughts
    I've tried creating a ConcurrentLinkedQueue and putting the DataControl on the que, then in the other thread I pull it off the que, process and commit the data. This works unless the page is navigated away from. Then calling dc.getApplicationModule(); returns null.
    I thought about using createRootApplicationModule in the new thread (since the new thread has no context) but don't know how that would work
    This is the code in the run method of the new thread. In this example, I'm adding data to the app module in the original thread and committing the data in a new thread.
    (like I said, it works most of the time.)
    Object[] req = (Object[])que.poll();
    DCDataControl dc = (DCDataControl)req[0];
    try{
    ApplicationModule am = dc.getApplicationModule();
    if (am != null){
    am.getTransaction().commit();
    } else{
    System.out.println("AM:null unable to commit ");
    } catch (Exception e){
    e.printStackTrace();
    finally{
    if (dc!= null){ dc.resetState();} // release app module
    }

    Thanks for the replies. I am aware of the inherent risks of running a separate thread within a managed container.
    The use case is a performance logging operation. We have a internal web app used by a network of franchises with over 1000 users. We log response time and performances statistics to the database. When the user clicks to navigate or commit data, the response time that the user experiences is logged after the page has fully rendered either through a PPR or a full submit. This is done by submitting ADFCustomEvent from javascript on the page after rendering is complete.. The event sends up the time difference from when the user first clicked to when the page was fully rendered. This information is then merged with logged events stored on the users Session that shows the name and response time of every query that was executed during the previous request. Depending on the page this could be up to half dozen to a dozen or more queries. The logging operation as experienced by the browser is generally fast (<200ms) but sometimes can be as long as a second or more when the database gets busy. A half second is too long as makes the app appear sluggish if the user can't type or click immediately after the page has finished rendering. The logged data is aggregated so we know exactly how much of the page load was due to a slow browser/network, how much was database time, webservice call time, etc... If it's due to a slow database we can drill down and see which query is the culprit. These performance metrics are critical to operations and are charted throughout the day so we know exactly what our users are experiencing. All of our users use a custom firefox client that we control. Using this logging framework we were able to determine that upgrading to a Firefox 4.0 based client cut browser render time by more than half a second on average. We can also tell what type of hardware the user is running so can place the blame for poor performance where appropriate. We have determined that pages render considerably faster on Windows 7 than on Windows 98 with the same hardware. We are moving the logging tables off of our exadata database to a separate box to remove that load from the application database. Since we expect the other database not to perform as well we don't want it to affect the user experience, hence the need to log asynchronously. I would like to put the data on a queue and have a background daemon process read from the queue and commit to the database. I would like the daemon thread to be able to use BC components. I would prefer not to resort to using a web service because of the inherent overhead. The logging operation is not a long operation but is of high frequency so should be as streamlined as possible. The load is spread over 6 servers with 4 JVM's each (24 weblogic instances). I know it's possible to use BC components from a plain Servlet (which runs on it's own thread) so what I want is to have something like a servlet thread that loops forever processing my logging queue.
    One other method I am investigating is using my own non-blocking ajax call that callls a servlet to perform the logging. I will need to pull out the timestamp contained within a client side ADF component along with the pages ctrl-state variable that is included with every ADF request as it uses this as the key to get to the data on the session. ADF really needs a non-blocking ADFCustomEvent for this type of request. (send and don't care about the response)
    The client component with the server listener looks like this
    <af:outputText value="#{pageFlowScope.perfClientTS}" visible="false"
    id="perfClientTSField" clientComponent="true">
    <af:serverListener type="logPerfData" method="#{perfLog.logPerfDataAction}"/>
    </af:outputText>
    The script that queues the ajax call after the page loads looks like this
    AdfCustomEvent.queue(perfClientTSField, "logPerfData", {
    typeId : typeId,
    subTypeId : subTypeId,
    responseTime1 : new String(responseTime1),
    responseTime2 : new String(responseTime2),
    openedVia: via
    true);
    I also tried calling the noResponseExpected() method on the event before queuing it but it still blocked the UI and caused an additional side effect in that the client sent two ajax requests instead of one. It somehow thought something on the client side needed to be synced with the server.
    email me and I can send a doc with more details about how our performance logging framework works.

  • Transactional triggers and commit processing

    I have only been an active member of this thread for a couple of weeks and have tried to contribute to a few postings. But I have also noticed lots of postings relating to the use of DML statements inside what I would call non commit time triggers.
    What I mean here is, for example, a WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger that does inserts, updates, deletes, followed by the COMMIT_FORM procedure.
    I thought it might be useful to draw attention to the possible pitfalls of this approach. I'm not saying that this approach is wrong - far from it, but sometimes it means that people aren't leveraging the functionality that you get "for free" from Forms.
    By coding some DML followed by a Commit_Form, you are not getting any rollback functionality from Forms. For example:
    INSERT INTO A
    INSERT INTO B
    COMMIT_FORM;
    Let's imagine that the insert into A worked but the insert into B failed for some reason. The user gets an unhandled exception. Now imagine that the cause of the error is cleared up, and the user presses the button (or whatever the invokation action was) again, and the commit works. You will have 2 records in A and 1 in B. You may not have expected that, and without coding your own rollback/savepoint that's what you would get.
    You also (1) don't get a Working... message without coding it yourself, and (2) get the "No changes to commit" message; removing this is the subject of many threads on this site.
    If you have a block which is based over a table which you need to update, then all of the DML statements ought to be coded inside PRE/POST/ON INSERT/UDPATE/DELETE statements, or other Forms transactional triggers (pre-database-commit etc..). If you need to change other tables then put the DML for them inside those triggers. Then you don’t have to worry about which records the user changed – if the user didn’t touch them then Forms won’t fire the triggers. And when you call the COMMIT_FORM procedure, Forms will fire the triggers for you and if any of them fail, it will rollback back to where the COMMIT_FORM started.
    An example in 1 thread I saw this morning, was a Delete button, which was to delete the current record in a multi-record block. This button performed the “DELETE FROM <table> WHERE <key=:block.key>” followed by a Commit. Then of course the block needed to be re-queried to reflect the fact that the record had gone. Using the power of Forms to simply call the DELETE_RECORD procedure would have achieved the same result without needing to requery the block. And Forms would do the delete by ROWID, the fastest way of doing it.
    If you don’t have a block based over a table, then you can consider creating a dummy block which uses Transactional Triggers. Code an ON-INSERT on that block which includes the DML you want to execute. Then in the trigger initiating the commit processing you would do something like:
    :DUMMY_BLOCK.ITEM1 := ‘X’;
    COMMIT_FORM;
    IF (NOT FORM_SUCCESS) OR :SYSTEM.FORM_STATUS != ‘QUERY’ THEN
    -- the commit failed
    END IF;
    Then you’ll get a nice Working.. message and full rollback control.
    I think the moral of what I’m trying to get across is to use the power of Forms in the way it handles the transactions. Whilst we moan about it, it is actually quite good at that!
    I hope this posting is taken in a positive light, I am certainly not trying to teach anyone to “suck eggs”.
    PS. I find it ironic that you were prevented from coding DML statements outside of commit time triggers, in Forms 2.3!

    Thank you, Kevin. Very informative.

  • I'm trying to buy a book. The book is made in I-Photo and when I push buy book button it starts to process and than says--  There was a problem communcating wit the apple store   " help"

    I'm trying to buy a book I made in I-photo. I have made a 20 page book in I-photo and when I push the "buy book" button it starts to process and then pops up a sign that say'es There was a problem commucating with the apple store. Please try again.   Help

    Are you buying from the correct Print Products Store?  If you are using the wrong store, your AppleID may not be valid.
    Is the Print Products Store set correctly in iPhoto Preferences > Advanced?  It should be set to the  same country as your billing address and delivery address, and match the settings of the Apple ID you are using.
    And you are using iPhoto '09 or '11, right?  you can no longer buy books from earlier versions.
    When you reenter your settings as LarryHN described, don't forget to enable Express Checkout. It is required.

  • How to use buttons in hcm process and forms?

    Hi Experts,
    I want to know how to use buttons in HCM process and form.
    And when i click on the button it was validating all the fields and it was throwing an error ( complete SACHP fields) i am not using this filed in any where of my form.
    So, please help in getting out of this error. And help me with some document, which method will  trigger once we click on the button.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Rocky

    You do not need to add this field to your list. In the view V_T588MFPROPS (SAP delivered), this field is set as mandatory. In configuration, you must maintain the view V_T588MFPROPC (Customer area) and make sure the field is not set to mandatory. This will override the SAP delivered setting and the error message will be not be displayed.

  • Trap back button processing and exit transaction and re-enter program.

    Hi
    I wonder if one of you guru's can help me. We seem to be getting loads of short dumps and I have been assigned the task of looking into it. Basically we have a program that the user runs (transaction FBL5N - Program is RFITEMAR).
    When the user executes the program he/she will be presented with a list of customer line item display they then select the items they want to view and press the display icon that gives a more detailed view.
    When they press the back button it goes back to the list and they are able to select another item and repeat the above process.
    My task is to trap the back button from the deatail screen (the last screen) and after trapping the back button I need to completely exit out of the transaction and then go back in at the point that they were at prior to going into the detailed screen.
    This is required as we think everytime the user displays the detail screen the system is grabbing memomry and not relinquishing it.
    Many thanks in advance .

  • HT201272 What is it with songs that are not from the itunes store, but are coming from cd's and other download sources that all of a sudden do not play on my iphone and have a red stop button in a red round circle around them, behind the title?

    Songs that I have had previously downloaded from various other sources, but NOW ALL of a sudden they DO NOT PLAY on my IPHONE and DISPLAY a RED STOP BUTTON in a red round circle next to the title.  Everytime I click on it it DOESNT play.   What happen???? How can i get them to play.,   Why should i have to pay for the songs, and why are they in the ITUNES store and not in my regular playlist.

    Amazing steps you've done so far! The great news is this is very unlikely an issue with your iPhone.
    I've run into a similar issue lately as well. I narrowed it down to one song that was causing 30 songs not to sync. I removed the song from the sync list (unchecked it) and all 29 songs were able to sync.
    You may be running into a similar issue. This may be a problem with this version of iTunes, an issue with one song or a group of songs; hard to know for sure. It's important to narrow down and isolate the cause. Most imporantly get that music back on there!
    The way to narrow down the casue add just a few songs at a time (even 1, just to get that first sync finished). Manually syncing is what you'll need here.
    Plug in your iPhone, on the Summary screen (shows a picture of your iPhone, the iOS version, Restore iPhone....; etc). Under the Options area at the bottom choose to Manually Manage Videos and Music then choose Apply in the lower right. The music that's on your iPhone now should be removed from your iPhone now. You're now able to sync music manually.
    The link below explains how to drag the songs from the iTunes library on the computer on to your iPhone which will start the sync. Add just one song just to see if you can get 1 of those hundreds of songs on there. If you can, awesome! Keep adding until you find the song or group of songs that are causing this issue.

    Please let me know how things are going.

  • Java Script behind the Submit Button

    I have an existing pdf form which has a submit button. I need to alter the url embedded in the java script behind this submit button, so that upon submission it goes to a different location. I am not able to locate this java script. Can anyone please suggest how to find out the java script. Thanks in advance.

    Are you able to select the button in Acrobat and bring up the Field Properties dialog? If so, the script should be in a Mouse Up JavaScript action. If not, it could be that the form is Reader-enabled or secured, or is an XFA form created in LiveCycle Designer. It may have also been put through the Distribute Form process in Acrobat, in which case it will be Reader-enabled.

  • Issue with page processing - confirmation message & show /hide a button..

    Hello,
    I am working on a to do list application.
    I have events and for each event, I show list of tasks (grouped in reports based on the calculated task's status).
    In one region I have a drop down list of events and a Select Event button.
    For each task, I had to create a CLOSE option (initially I used a link, but the requester wanted a confirmation before closing the task).
    Now I have a checkbox for each task (generated dynamically with apex_item.checkbox(1,task_id)).
    Closing a task in my application means to set the end_date to sysdate.
    I followed the instructions from
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31036_01/doc/appdev.22/b28839/check_box.htm#CEGEFFBD. I've created also a button and a process and updated the sql from "delete" to "update".
    The process is set: OnSubmit - After Computations and Validations; Run Process Once per page visit (default).
    The issue number 1 is that I see the confirmation message (that tasks have been closed) every time I reload the page (the same when I click Select_event button).. not only after I press on that Close_task button..
    For issue number 2, I have to mention that I've added a condition to show / hide the Close_task button, only if I have at least 1 task in the report.
    The issue number 2 is that I see the button only if I click 2 times on the Select_Event button.. The same is for hide.
    I feel like I am missing something very important about how to synchronize different events(buttons clicks), processes..
    help..?
    Thank you!

    This forum is magic..
    As soon as write here, I find the answer!
    Issue 1: I fixed it by specifying this: When Button Pressed (Process After Submit When this Button is Pressed) and my button. I miseed this 1st time.
    Issue 2: I moved the button after the report.. and now it's working just fine!
    I did this about it for some time before asking the question here.. but I just had to write here and got the right answer ;)
    Have a nice day!

  • How do I get out of an iphone restoration loop, itunes keeps saying it has detected an iphone in restore mode and that it must check for software updates and reinstall the ios, it completes this process and then says: detected iphone in restore mode etc.,

    Background: my iphone 3gs was running wonderfully - no issues at all, as normal.
    I let the power run down to critical and got the empty battery screen - plugged it in and when it had enuf juice it displayed the cord-to-itunes-of-death-screen...
    I had just backed up the previous to icloud so no worries... I just plugged in and thought ok this will just take a second...it completed the restore then said with a glazed amnesic font "Itunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode, and has never seen or restored this iphone ever before, since this is a stranger iphone, itunes does not trust it and must call the ipolice to check for contraban in its orifices and cavities, you must restore"... kidding of course... but
    OMG at home I did the whole restore process no less than 20 times while optimizing and accounting for different variables each time (restoring on a new system with a fresh OS, trying to restore and a mac, restoring then restarting empty cache, restart unistall itunes then restore restart restore, installing an older version of Itunes and restoring. going back to Vista and restoring), and every single time it would complete the check, the update/check, the ios reinstall, and then whatever else and say "complete"... and then no icon menu would appear for the device in itunes so unplug the phone and replug and get the whole "Itunes must render restore aid" message. SO I went to the genuis bar at my local iBoutique thrice - each time the bewildered but very courteous and knowledgable genuis wanted to keep trying ... since I had been on this treadmill for about two weeks I decided each time to respect my fellow appletonians and not suck up genius time... but I really want my old 3gs back... why - I like that it amazes the youth who occaisonal are puzzled by seeing something apple that they don't recognize and in wonder and amazement at its age they learn that even though its no longer invited to iOS family gatherings that it still can call home and ask why Apple waited so long when it was a kid to give it copy-paste ability like all the other kids, then ask for money for the shrink bill.. ... . . ..

    Soooooooo.... You obviously need to restore the device
    It seems that you have tried several options to restore it. What I would do is leave it plugged it and hold down the Home button AND the Power button together till you see the white apple appears. Then let go of the Power button but continue to hold the home button. You should get the message in iTunes again saying that the iPhone needs to be restored. Hit OK then RESTORE.
    Hope this helps!!

  • Use HCM processes and Forms without using the Enterprise Portal

    is it possible to leverage existing HR Admin Services (HCM processes and Forms) functionality without using the Enterprise Portal?
    1) Create an Adobe form and Interface using SFP
    2) Set up ISR and Form Scenario
    3) Set up Forms configuration to use existing Backend and generic Services
    4) Set up workflow to updated Backend using Services
    is it possible to do the above steps and not use the Portal? If Yes, how do we present the forms to the Manager, and provide different buttons that appears on the Portal by default?
    Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Saurabh

    Hi Saurabh,
    your assumptions and findings (items can not be started from the backend workflow inbox etc.) are correct: These processes can not be started without the Portal and it is not intended to do this.
    The above mentioned backend report are only forseen for implementation and testing purposes and not for productive use.
    In addition to the fact, that you already can't execute the work items a lot of other features of the framework (Process Browser etc.) are only available through the Portal.

  • FB05 - trans to be processed and first line item PK for doc type

    Hi all,
    Me quite confused of the entry for the following document type in FB05
    DG - cust credit memo
    DR - cust invoice
    SA- gl acc doc
    SB - gl acc posting
    KG - vdr credit memo
    DZ - customer payment
    Need the help to let me know for document type above, what radio button to choose in transaction to be processed and also what posting key use at first line item.
    Also if i choose the wrong transaction to be processed radio button, any impact?
    thanks
    rgds

    Document type is primarily used to distinguish different various types of transactions. Ultimately, there are only two effects in accouting - debit and credit. Thus, doc type helps distinguish btw various types of accounting entries. It also controls certain field status while document posting and also drives the number range for the accounting document.
    Posting keys determine whether a transaction will be a credit or a debit. They also have an influence over the field status of the document entry screen. Posting keys are broadly divided into those belonging to
    Customer                             - Acct type C
    Vendors                               - Acct type V
