Process flows without Oracle Workflow?

I am using OWB 10.2, running with a 10.2 database. I want to create a new workflow module, package, and flow, and execute it the process flow using the OWB scheduler. The documentation implies that this configuration is possible, but when I create the workflow module it wants an Oracle Workflow connection for the location. I get the feeling that I'm overlooking something basic in the documentation.
QUESTION:
1) Is Oracle Workflow REQUIRED to create, deploy, and execute a process flow?

Hi,
Oracle Workflow is required for deploying processflow.
Where did you read in documentation about possibilities of running processflows without OWF? OWB instalation guide tells:
"If you plan to use Warehouse Builder process flows, you need to install Oracle Workflow to enable deployment."

  • Modify process flows using Oracle Workflow

    Hi,
I'd like to use Oracle Workflow to enhance the process flows created using Warehouse Builder, as some features are missing if compared with the full-blown Workflow Builder, and it is desired to integrate OWB processes in larger ones. I have successfully applied changes on the Workflow processes generated from OWB but it's not clear how far I can go, especially because I don't want to lose too much of the benefits of the original Workflows:all mapping results should continue to show in the Runtime Audit Browser, and it shouldn't be impossible to deploy the processes in a new environment.
I am worried that when I change the processes manually in Workflow, I lose the possibility to re-deploy automatically from OWB, but this is tolerable as long as the final Workflow processes are maintainable and deployable.
Has anyone tried a similar approach? How much can it be feasible/supported??
    regards, Antonio

Jean-Pierre, thank you very much for your reply.
I'm still evaluating what will be done through OWB and what through OWF. However my first attempts were oriented along the lines you suggest, that is to keep the process flows generated by OWB untouched, and use them as building blocks for larger processes. At the moment I am trying to realize what balance gives the best result. One extreme would be to use OMB scripting to wrap mappings in very simple generated processes, deploy them and build all the workflow logic in OWF. The other extreme would be to implement complete workflows through OWB and modify them through Workflow, but I'm sure this would certainly not be supported (as the Workflow developer manual states).
My intent is to use OWF to add some flow logic I find difficult to introduce using OWB, especially for recovery actions, eg I added a join operator to the standard AND and OR, which purpose is to wait that all joining processes complete and than to branch depending on a failure in any process. I don't want the following recovery/logging actions to start unless processing has stopped.
I built such logic very easily throw OWF but it's very involved using OWB, unless I'm missing something...

  • Running OWB without Oracle Workflow?

    Hi,
I have developed a simple mapping that joins few tables into one.
Is it possible to run the mapping in runtime environment without installing the Oracle Workflow?

    Hi,
Yes. You can run a mapping from Deployment Manager without Oracle Workflow.
Oracle Work flow is an optional one, and is only required if you have designed process flows to determine the dependency among the mappings.
    good luck

  • OWB Process Flow without  OWF

My question is very simple : is it meaningful to create Process Flow in OWB without any installation of Oracle Workflow (or something else like OWF) ?

I have same question. In addition, I would like to know if we use 9.2 process flow editor, do we need to know work flow? I need this info to decide we our folks need training on Oracle Workflow. From what I understand, with 9.2 Process Flow editor, we may not need workflow product.

  • How to integrate the Process flow design into Workflow?

    Hi Guys,
I created a process flow design in OWB. Now I need to integrate this design into Oracle workflow. How can I implement it? Process flow design is saved as an Jpeg or SVG file. Pls suggest the steps how can I do this? Im new to workflow and owb. Im using OWB 10g.
    Regards
    Kishan

If you deployed the packages to the same location then the second deployment replaced the result of the first one (actually a new version of the process flow was created). You can execute only the latest version...

  • How to import Process Flows without OWB

    Hi,
I'm having trouble deploying my process flows to my PROD environment.
Process flows complile and run ok in TEST environment, and we are suppoused to deploy in both environments (TEST and PROD) from the same OWB repository, which is correct.
But due to technical problems with the net, by the moment I cannot see the PROD server from OWB repository installation, so I need to deploy manually (using scripts via SqlPlus or some other tool).
I can export the PFs from the 'generate' option provided by OWB, so I can get the file with the PFs' source code.
    What I don't know is:
    1) how to import/create that process flows in the new instance manually (I mean from outside OWB) from the exported file.
    2) where should I create them, in the workflow instance or in the owb repository instance?
    I'm working with OWB 10gR2
Can somebody help me with this?
    Thanks in advance

The original database and and destination database (which I handle) probablly have different features (when create database, optional scripts run from rdbms/admin might be different). I did use IGNORE=Y every time. I tried SYS or SYSTEM to import but always are scared by too many errors.

  • OWB Process Flow Execution in Workflow

    Hi!
I hope somebody can help me with this one... I have a process flow designed to load data from a flat file to a db staging table then do some transformation on the data and load the data to the data warehouse. I am using OWB 9.2.0.2.8, 9i DB (9.2.0.5) and OWF 2.6.2. I have successfully validated and deployed the process flow but during execution, the process failed on the mapping that loads data from the flat file to the staging table. The message log of the deployment manager reports: /u01/oracle/product/owb/temp/STAGING_MAP.ctl (No such file or directory). Do I have to set the source location for the flat file again? You see we have already executed this mapping alone and it worked fine, using the source location in the server as defined in the mapping, which is /u01/files/.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Where can I find the Business Process/ Model (BPM) flows for Oracle Cloud (Financials, HCM, Sales, Service, Taleo)?
Anything similar to Retail Reference Model from Oracle BPA Suite (Business Process Architect) would be fine, as long as it is relevant to Oracle Cloud.
I am looking for Level 0 (Oracle Cloud) and Level 1 (Financials, HCM, Sales, Service, Taleo) process flows (Level 2 & 3 optional).

You can schedule process flows the same way as you schedule mappings. See the following viewlet regarding the scheduling of OWB activities in Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM):

  • Process flow failed in Workflow Monitor

I have OBIEE 11g & i have a workflow that pick up data from my live environment on a daily basis.
Since i have added a new table to the workflow, my workflow keeps failing haphazardly.
Any help where i may look for any additional information?

    DAC 10.1.3.4.1 Release Notes at
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12513_01/doc/bic.101/e12655.pdf
3.21 DAC Task Failing On Non-English Operating System
This issue applies to DAC 10.1.3.4.1 and Informatica PowerCenter 8.6.1, HotFix3
DAC Server uses pmcmd to initiate the workflows on Informatica Server. In the
English-based operating systems, DAC issues the commands in the non-blocking
mode (asynchronously), and polls Informatica for the status of the workflow. The
output of the pmcmd getWorkFlowDetails is spooled to the DAC\log directory, and
then gets parsed to determine whether the workflow is still running, completed
    successfully, or failed.
However, for non-English based operating systems DAC issues commands in the
waiting mode (synchronously). This means that when the process completes the exit
code tells DAC whether the workflow succeeded or not.
    Workaround
The commands used by DAC to communicate with Informatica are externalized in a
    file called infa_commands.xml.
The DAC 10.13.4.1 command template does not have a place holder for specifying the
wait mode. Without this wait mode configuration, on non-English OS based
installation, this results in DAC proceeding with the execution even before the
workflow completes executing. This might result in errors, such as Informatica's bulk
loader failing because of index presence or fact tables getting loaded without foreign
    key references.
    To fix the problem,...etc

  • Executing Process Flow from OWB Deployment Manager results in RPE-01008

    Hi,
I'm using OWB 10.1.0.1.0 (10g) and just installed Oracle Workflow Server 2.6.3.

    Anyone has an idea?

  • Oracle 10G Database Control and Scheduling OWB Process Flow

Does anyone know how to go about scheduling an OWB Process Flow from
Oracle 10G Data Base Control. I knew how to do this with Oracle Enterprise Manager 9.2 but we recently upgraded to Oracle Db 10G and the interface has changed significantly.
Now the interface seems to require a PL/SQL stored procedure to be executed.
Is there a template procedure that is installed with 10G Data Base Control as there was for 9.2 i.e. oem_exec_template.sql?
    Thanks! Deadline approaching fast...
    Marion

I've used the oem_exec_template.sql successfully with OWB 10.1 and Oracle 10G Database Control, with a little trial and error at first.
I'm assuming that your job execution environment is set up correctly, ie. that you can properly execute jobs via the host agent.
    1. Log on to Database Control as SYSTEM, select Jobs from the links at the bottom of the page
    2. In the Results section, Create Job, select "SQL Script" and press Go
    3. In the General section, enter Job Name, and as SQL Script enter e.g.:
    @/u01/app/oracle/owb_oracle_home/owb/rtp/sql/oem_exec_template.sql owb_runtime WF_LOC PROCESS MY_PROCESS , ,
    4. In the Databases section, add your target database
    5. In the Credentials section, I select "Override Preferred Credentials" and use the agent account (oracle on my Linux system) and db user owb_access (OWB Runtime Access user)
    6. Review Schedule tab and submit
    Comments on step 3:
    - the oem_exec_template.sql script must be installed according to the path specified in step 3, on the database host where the OWB Runtime Repository is located
    - owb_runtime is the owner of my OWB Runtime Repository
    - WF_LOC is the name of my Workflow Location as seen in OWB Deployment Manager
    - MY_PROCESS is the name of a deployed Workflow Process
    - the commas indicate that I don't supply any system or custom parameters.
    - step 3 is actually a shell command line that is interpreted by eg. /bin/sh on Unix or cmd on Windows, and must obey proper quoting rules. On windows, I had to specify the empty commas as "\," (including dblquotes)

  • Help with scheduling Process Flows in Workflow in 10gR2

    Dear All
I am after some help with the scheduling of process flows (PF) in Workflow in OWB 10gR2. I am trying to set up some PF’s to handle the refresh of some staging tables from various source systems. I have created a separate Process Flow Module for each source systems, mainly just to keep them separate and organised. I have a number of mappings which all run fine if execute manually or linked directly to a schedule/job. The problem I am encountering is when I try to run process flows from schedules. I have created process flows ok and have run them manually and they complete fine so I know that the content of the PF is ok. After linking and deploying the jobs I can never get all the process flows to run from the various schedules. What appears to happen is that the first PF works ok and any other PF that are within the same Process Flow Module/packages also runs ok even if its running off as different schedules. However PF’s under the other Process Flow Module fail with the following error

Following this error the PF will not even run manually! • Oracle Workflow Inbound Processing Protocol

    Hi Gurus,
Is there any other Oracle supported method to use a protocol different from IMAP for setting up the Inbound processing of the Oracle Workflow ?
This is in response to an unexpected shutdown of the POP and IMAP in our organization ?
I currently do not have any idea of what will replace IMAP but will update as soon as I know about it.
Does Mailer support POP3 as Protocol for Inbound Processing ? [ID 944802.1] says "*Workflow Notification Mailer only supports IMAP as the protocol for the Inbound Processing*"
Any advise on this would be really helpful.
    Thanks,

Any advise on this would be really helpful.AFAIK and as per the doc, only IMAP is supported (even if you see the Workflow mailer configuration via OAM, you will only find IMAP under "Inbound EMail Account" section in the LOV). However, I would suggeat you log a SR to confirm the same with Oracle support.

But I need Oracle Workflow Manager Schema to deploy my Process flows. So is there a way to deploy the Process flows without the Oracle Workflow Manager Schema? Is there any script which can do that?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Harsha

Hello, OWB process flows can be run in an XPDL compliant workflow engine, if you deploy to XML and then load the generated files. The question is, with what do you want to replace Oracle Workflow... You can even run a sequence of mappings directly without any workflow software, maybe through a shell script or a stored procedure, but this works only if you don't have complex flows.
If you need more info about the XPDL standard and other workflow engines (open source and commercial), see www.wfmc.org.
    Hope this helps - Antonio
