Production vs. Testing Database
I double posted. Sorry.

That should be no problem. The code produced by Dreamweaver
MX 2004 is
compatible with both. However, the code created by the Log In
User
server behavior in MX 2004 breaks in recent versions of PHP.
I have
posted the workaround in the friends of ED forum at the

Hi,
You can do one correction here :
Instead of taking full export backup , take export of only those schemas which you want to refresh.
You can use datapump to make it faster.
For improving speed please check

Database refresh from production to test -how to clean existing test env
All,
My environment is
Both Production and Test databases are in two node RAC environment
Oracle version - 10.2.0.4.0
OS - RHEL5
Production database size 80GB
We need to refresh the test environment from production database. Complete objects, data etc should be refreshed.
We have a datapump export from production environment. With this export dump from production environment, I need to import into test environment.
So far, I have imported with this kind of dump to the fresh database only.
Now, we have already objects, data sitting in the test environment. How to clean the existing test environment and refresh the production datapump export dump.
I thought of dropping all the tablespaces in test (other than system,sysaux, undo and temp). But not able to drop few tablespaces, it is telling that index is available in other tablespaces, dependency errors etc.
Which is the best method to clean the existing test database. Management is not interested in dropping the test database and recreating it.I understand that you are Newbie , let give me simple steps.
Follow the steps on testing envi.
1. Drop only Application users that you want to refresh from Prod(Do NOT drop users system,sysaux.. or tablespaces)
2. Create the users that you dropped.
3. using import or import data pump import the data.
In case you want to import user"A" data to "B" use REMAP_SCHEMA option.
See the below link for data pump export/import with examples.

Hope this helps.

Creating a test database from backups of the production
Hello Experts,
I am a newbie with very much new in Oracle. I have been provided with the inc0 backup(which comprises even the controlfile backup) of the production database (PROD) taken through RMAN and asked to create a new test database (TEST) using the backup. Can anyone please provide me the steps on how to restore it and create the new database ?
Database version 10.2.0.4
I am aware of duplicate database concept using RMAN, but I have been asked to not to connect to the target (PROD) database while duplicating. So, I need to create the test database by using the backup of prod database without connecting to PROD database. Please guide me.Refer
http://arjudba.blogspot.in/2008/05/restore-and-recover-database-to-new.html
RMAN restore database from another backup of different database name
When you are restoring using the backup of the production database, the db_name would be same on the auxiliary database. Once you restore and recover the database in your test server, you can change the db_name from prod to test by recreating the controlfile -
Migrating from Test Database to Production Database
Hi,
I have a situation where I created my Portal Pages on test database and now, I want to move everything from test database to my production database. The portal version on both the sites is same (3.0.9.8). I have content areas and applications in my existing test site. What is the best and easiest way to achieve this?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
JatinderHi,
the easiest way is to make an export of the portal schema en import it into you're production database.
greetings

Updating test database from production in Oracle 10g
What will be easiest way to have production database replicated to test database once a day basis? The 2 databases are on similar machines & same OS
What sort of test system are you building? Are you building a reporting server so you can run reports on a snapshot of the data? Are you building a staging environment where you can test applying scripts and can simply reapply the DDL changes every day? Or do you have a real testing instance which will generally have slighly different table definitions/ objects/ etc than the production instance?

Edited by: oradb on Nov 29, 2010 1:54 AMwhich method are you using to take the dump ?
if you are using the imp/exp method ,
then simple create a parameter file with the following parameters :
indexes=y
rows=y
grants=y
buffer=500000
ignore=y
statistics=none
full=y
log=logfile.log
and then run the following command :
imp system/**** <parfilename>
Always refer to the logfile to see for successfull completion of the import.
hope this helps

How to omport PLD from testing database to Production Database
i have designed PLD reports in testing database and now i want to import it to Production Database ? How should i do it ?
There are couple of ways to do this
Use Copy Express Addon of SAP to copy PLD from one DB to another.
Another way is to use SQL to copy from one DB to another.
I am not sure if the SAP still support the SQL way but I could give it to you and it will work.
insert into [TargetDB\].[dbo\].[RDOC\]
select [SourceDB\].[dbo\].[RDOC\].* FROM [SourceDB\].[dbo\].[RDOC\]
WHERE [SourceDB\].[dbo\].[RDOC\].DocCode = 'CHO10002'
insert into [TargetDB\].[dbo\].[RITM\]
select [SourceDB\].[dbo\].[RITM\].*
from [SourceDB\].[dbo\].[RITM\]
where [SourceDB\].[dbo\].[RITM\].DocCode = 'CHO10002' AND [SourceDB\].[dbo\].[RITM\].[Doccode\]
IN (SELECT Doccode from [SourceDB\].[dbo\].[RDOC\])
CHO10002 is shown as a sample DocCode. You can get the DocCode when you open the PLD in design mode and go to Print layout design menu on top and click on Display Document Properties - General tab

Unable to connect to a Test database in UPK.
Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I recently had the Production version of UPK cloned to a virtual server and UPK is able to connect to the test database but when I launch UPK on my workstation and start the process of adding the Test Profile, it gives me an authentication error when I choose my current Windows login account to authenticate. I am running UPK version 3.6.1 and Oracle 10g database on a different server. What could be causing this issue and how can I fix it? Please advise.
Hi,
Can you test network connectivity with your Unix Server with a Telnet on your DirectAccess client. If it works, problem is not located on server-side but on DirectAccess client-side. Maybe your SSH client force IPv4 use (using IPv4 to connect instead
of hostnames, or legacy DLL use). I had a similar case with a client-server application that only rely on IPv4. I had to cheat with NETSH.EXE PORTPROXY as illustrated in my blog post :
http://danstoncloud.com/blogs/simplebydesign/archive/2012/02/11/tcpv4-based-applications-with-directaccess.aspx
Hope this help.

Physical Data Guard as Test Database?
I am in a new shop and the first DBA in the shop. On the first day I see that they have ‘tablespace full’ problems because people are running test jobs on the production database – reports, I hope!
This is a 10g database on hp/ux.
I will suggest that I create a proper test database as a physical standby database from production. The amount of data in the production database is not enormous. There is just a need to create a test system good enough to pull the testers off the production system.
But what about the day that someone mangles the test system? How do you get a physical standby database back in sync? Restore from backup and reapply logs? Recreate the standby from production? Or is there a better way to do all this than physical standby?
TYIA1) Running reports should never cause tablespaces to fill up. Selecting data doesn't cause any data to be written to tablespaces. You might get errors related to exhausting the TEMP tablespace if the reports are doing a lot of sorts, but it doesn't sound like that's what you're seeing.
2) You would not normally create a test database as a standby of the primary database. Normally, you would take a backup of the production database and restore that backup on to the test server, rename the database, and open it up as the test system. Assuming you're using RMAN to back up the production database, this should be relatively straightforward.
3) Normally, you would then schedule a regular restore of the production backup to the test server in order to refresh the test system. That's normally something that's done roughly monthly, but that depends on the frequency of your builds and how frequently you need pristine and/or updated data in the test system. In addition to providing a test system, doing regular restores is a great way to validate your backup and recovery strategy in a relatively low-stress environment-- it's much nicer to discover that the process that writes to tape has been broken for 3 weeks when you're attempting to refresh the test database than when the production database has failed and angry users are standing outside your cube demanding that you get the database up now.
4) Going back to #1, though, if data tablespaces are filling up, that would seem like something that should be investigated in addition to the lack of a test environment.

Creating a reduced size Test database
Hi everyone,
We currently have some test and development databases which are refreshed regularly as a whole with production data at regular intervals. However the production database is quite big and growing at a considerable rate. This makes demands for disk space on test database servers to grow as well. The test team do not need a full copy of the production so I am investigating the possibility of creating a procedure(perhaps write some scripts) whereby the test database are refreshed with only a certain portion of the production data,keeping all the relationships and constraints in consideration. I will appreciate any input and discussion on how this could be possible and what options can be explored.
Many Thanks,
Mandeep.Hi ,
Sorry for the late reply. The Test and Dev databases are refreshed with a fresh copy of the production data once or twice a month. The refresh is done by taking an export from the production, doing an import in the Test environment.
Oracle version is 9.2.0.6 on all servers.
Thanks. -
Transfer content of BO XI 3.1 from production to test
Hi all!
I have separate production system BO XI R3.1 FP 1.3 and a test system BO XI R3.1 FP 1.7.
After a crash I tried to use the import wizard to move the content of production to test. When I create a biar file with the Import Wizard under 1.3, this file is not recogized within Import Wizard 1.7.
Is there another way to copy all items within the BO XI server?
I tried with the Live Cycle Manager - but failed, as not all objects can be choosen for transfer.
Can I use the repository database from production and copy it to test? How can I change then the CMS server settings?
ciao HakanSo here the solution:
1. Open CCM
2. Stop Server Intelligence Agent (SIA)
3. Open Properties -> Configuration -> Specify
4. Copy from existing Datasource (Prod) to new Datasource (will be overwritten/Test)
5. Check change Clustername to define the new clustername
6. close
7. Open CCM
8. Add new Server Intelligence Agent (last option - don't recreate)
9. Provide "Name and Port" : SIA2 port: 6410 -> on second register port: 6400
10. Define Datasource (Test) - be aware of your production environment had auditing enabled you need the specify also an audtition database in Test too.
11. Start the new entry within CCM for SIA2
12. If everthing was okay, delete the existing node within CMC Website
13. in CCM delete the obsolete entry for SIA - if not possible you need to hack the registry entries for services under Windows /currentcontrolset .. service is listed as BO120SIASIA
I have my test still running, but if anything changes I will post them here. -
Missing datafile after cloing oracle EBS from production to test
Good Day
I have done a restore from the production system to the test system some time ago . Today I got an error on my test system saying ORA-00376: file 375 cannot be read at this time . After checking I found that the file seems to be missing on the test environment .
SQL > select file_name from dba_data_files where file_id=375 ;
/gldb11i/devdb/9.2.0/dbs/MISSING00375
So I got the name from production and since the file seems to be avilabe in test I did the rename as follows :
SQL> alter database rename file '/gldb11i/devdb/9.2.0/dbs/MISSING00375' to '/gld
b11i/oradevd/oradata/dev/gld16.dbf' ;
Database altered.
But when I tryed to recover the file I got the error .
SQL> recover datafile '/gldb11i/oradevd/oradata/dev/gld16.dbf'
ORA-00283: recovery session canceled due to errors
ORA-01110: data file 375: '/gldb11i/oradevd/oradata/dev/gld16.dbf'
ORA-01122: database file 375 failed verification check
ORA-01110: data file 375: '/gldb11i/oradevd/oradata/dev/gld16.dbf'
ORA-01206: file is not part of this database - wrong database id
Ofcourse that is becuse my test dataabse was renamed from production name fmprod to test name fmdev .
Is there any way to recover the file ? . I have all the archive logs avilable . Can nid change the database id in the file if it is only one file ?
Why did I not get any errors when I was doing the post cloneing process ?
Please note my databse is versio 9.2.0.6
Many thanks to all1. Use Transportable feature to transport the remaining datafile from production to test.
How can I do that without stopping production or making it read only .
2. Reclone only that tabespace from Production to test.
How , I used the oracle provided scripts for the cloning process ie . adcfgclone.pl
3. Depending on the size of data contents, manually drop and recreate the tablespace in test, export contents from Production, import into test.
I am worried about the data consistancy . Will the database be consistant it I do that there might be tables on other tablespaces related to this tablespace
Thanks -
Hello Friends,
The background is I am working as conversion manager and we move the data from oracle to SQL Server using SSMA and then we will apply the conversion logic and then move the data to system test ,UAT and Production.
Scenario:
Moving the 80 Million records from Conversion database to System Test database (Just for one transaction table) taking too long. Both the databases are in the same server.
Questions are…
What is best option?
IF we use the SSIS it’s very slow and taking 17 hours (some time it use to stuck and won’t allow us to do any process).
I am using my own script (Stored procedure) and it’s taking only 1 hour 40 Min. I would like know is there any better process to speed up and why the SSIS is taking too long.
When we move the data using SSIS do they commit inside after particular count? (or) is the Microsoft is committing all the records together after writing into Transaction Log
Thanks
Karthikeyan Jothihttp://www.dfarber.com/computer-consulting-blog.aspx?filterby=Copy%20hundreds%20of%20millions%20records%20in%20ms%20sql
Processing
hundreds of millions records can be done in less than an hour.

SQL Server Gateway Licensing - Production and Test
I have a client who has two databases that need to use the SQL Server Gateway - production and test (two separate servers).
As the gateway is separately licensed and can be installed on a separate machine from the database server am I right in saying that only one license is needed for the Gateway
and that both test and production databases can use it?
The Oracle Partner that they use is telling them that they need to buy two Gateway licences.
Can any one help? Thanks!Hello User,
