Programmatic generation of PDF

I need to generate a PDF as report output and would prefer to print a vi front panel directly to PDF as opposed to using a template in (office, etc.).  I need to control deployment cost and would prefer to avoid add-ons.   Does anyone have experience with this?

For the Simplicity AI LabView toolkit:
Key Features
• String Text to PDF
• Embedded Data Tables
• Headers and Footers
• Embedded Graphics
• Add Front Panel and Control Images
• Multiple Font Support
• 2 Example VIs Included
• Watermark Free
• VI documentation and Help File
For the PDF Report with iTextSharp", take a look at the page 8 of the User manual.  The image of the front panel was added with "Append Front Panel Image.vi"
In both cases it is not a a template-like interface.

  • Programmatically generate password for pdf with data from database

    Good day everyone,
I would like to know is it possible to programmatically generate passwords for pdf??
The main idea is to enable an automated process of pdf acquiring individualised password from a database (Excel, Access, you name it) and finally sending the pdf to individual recipient. Can I use javascript for this? And if yes, how?? If not, pls do advice me on the appropriate steps.
    Background (for clarity's sake):
Currently I am working on developing an automated process for the sending customised, password encrypted payslip to about 80 staff. The entire procedure is pretty much summarized as below:
mail merg (UBS output in) excel to words -> convert words to pdf -> programmatically password encrypt the pdf -> email to individual recipients.
Well my current status is - I am quite done with the batch mail merge and convertion part. And batch proccessing of password encryption is not a problem, but the idea is to allow acrobat to retrieve password automatically from a database and not key-in each and every password manually. The batch email for now is another problem but for now I have to work stepwise. (Any ideas on how to do it would equally be valued though! =D)
    System and software using:
    Windows  XP and 7 Professional
    Microsoft Office Proffesional 2010
    Adobe Acrobat X Pro
I would be really grateful for any relevant replies to my question and any additional thoughts or ideas are welcome!!
I would to thank any potential saviour in advance!
    Thank you for helping!

Basically I need to automate the password generation from database extract
e.g. Excel database with StaffID, StaffName, PayMonth, etc. Then when the pdf is created, its password would be <StaffID>_<PayMonth> which is extracted from excel.
Is it possible for this to happen?? I dont mine using Javascript, I'll just have to learn it.
Or how about recommending a program which does that??
Whichever is fine as long there's a solution!
    Thanks!

  • Is anybody programmatically converting HTML to PDF? If so, how?

Is anybody programmatically converting HTML to PDF? If so, how?
    With InDesign, or something else?
As long as the application (InDesign or something else) has a command-line interface, i'd like to know about it.
Am using .NET, but we still want to know what you're doing even if you aren't.
Source data is HTML pages from random sources, so it's not necessarily XHTML unfortunately, though i could tidy it into a consistent form.

thanks, but what i'm looking for here is programmatic usage -- that is, scripted or command-line -- not having a human user choosing menu options, etc
so as to your two suggestions ...
this would appear to be NOT programmatic ...
    > And Acrobat will install a PDF convert toolbar for Internet Explorer to do this right from the browser.
and this might or might not be possible to program -- i don't know if people are somehow running Acrobat programmatically, would appreciate further information

  • Programmaticly name the PDF from report generator

    Hi,
I'm currently developing an application that contains report generation.
Using report generation pallet I was able to make PDFs but the problem is that a dialog box appears asking me to give a name to the PDF.
Since the application will be running all the year generating weekly reports I need to make automatis naming for the PDFs because I don't have all the Time operator to name the file.
    Thanks in advance

I'm assuming that the method you are using to create PDF reports is to "print" them to a PDF writer. In this case, it is an issue that resides outside of LabVIEW. LabVIEW simply sends the document to the PDF "printer" and it is actually the PDF Writer that is querying you for the name. Since most printers don't require you to name files that you print, LabVIEW does not provide any way of sending this information programmatically.
If automation of those PDF names is imperative, you might be able to build PDF documents through ActiveX with Adobe and programmatically provide PDF names that way, but from my experience, Adobe does a pretty poor job of documenting their ActiveX functions. However, it may be something worth exploring if the issue is important to you.

  • Programmatically generated hyperlinks in PDF now have boxes around them (v. 10.1.4)

    Hi
I wonder if anyone has encountered this problem which only appeared in version 10.1.4 of both the Reader and Acrobat and if so, have you found a solution/workaround?
Hyperlinks that are generated programmatically now have visible borders around them which can't be turned off. Our company uses a specialist programme to generate PDF publications from XML. Since Adobe has released the new 10.1.4 update, all the hyperlinks originally created in XML and converted to PDF are encapsulated in a box. This does not apply to manual links. My (personal) solution was to downgrade the Reader to 10.1.3 and Acrobat to 10.0.0  (because that was when the back button last worked properly and I use that all the time), but we cannot advise our customers to do the same - downgrading is not exactly a breeze. I view this as a bug or oversignt on Adobe's part and I really hope the next update will address this issue. If anyone has found a solution, please share it. Thank you.

Oh, I didn’t realise that, sorry!
OK, I’ve attached two pages extracted from one of our publications. If you open the file in Reader 10.1.4 you will see a mixture of links with borders and without borders – the ones without were done by hand and you can actually go into properties and change them. The other ones don’t let you access the properties because they are created by our system (called CLS). The links with visible borders still work, so it’s only a question of aesthetics. Only one link (3.4) in the attached PDF will work because it’s taking you to a place inside this very same document; the others were disabled during extraction.
I can provide a bigger file, if you think it’s any help.

I can see from your code that you are a beginner. Your coding style is very Labview no-no. But well every Labview pro have some time been a beginner I have some problems understanding or grasp the essence of your problem. Can you post your failed attempt to use rapport generation. It would help in the understanding of your problem.

  • Automatic generation of PDF file from briefing book in OBIEE11g

    Hi all,
Could anyone tell me if exist a way to generate PDF files from briefing books automatically in OBIEE11g?
    Thanks
    Annalisa

I only got so far when I tried to do this in Windows. The problem comes when you try to tell the printer to print to a file with a particular name.
The first steps are to get GhostWriter for Windows.
Then you install the Apple LaserWriter pro 600 driver which can print to a postscript file (try it manually first). GhostWriter can then, with a command line command, using a java Process, convert that to a .pdf file.

Using Acrobat Pro / Pro Extended -
Advanced > Document Processing > Batch Processing
In the Batch Sequence dialog, click "New Sequence"; give it a name.
In the dialog that appears, click "Select Command".
Scroll down the list of available sequences to locate and select "Security".
    Click the "Add" button.
    Click the "Edit" button.
The Document Security dialog presents itself.
Select a security method from the drop-down menu.
Go through the Settings dialog(s) to configure the selected security method.
Once this is done and you close out of the dialog you are back to the "Edit Sequence" dialog.
    Click OK.
Back in the Edit Batch Sequence - <name of new sequence you made> dialog, click the "Output Options" button.
Review the available configurations to see if you want something other than the default (& to see the default).
When done and back in the Edit Batch Sequence - ... dialog, click OK.
Click the Run Sequence button, then click OK to browse to the folder containing PDFs to process.
Select the PDFs and click the "Select" button.
    The Batch Sequence runs.

  • Problem in IAS Server with generation of PDF with FOP and XML parsing

    Dear co.forumers :
We are developing an application that generates a pdf document with FOP Apache utilities, and this PDf is stored in a folder of the server. Firts of all, a DDBB data is retrieved using java ( jdbc) middleware classes ( servlets ), and with these data, the pdf is generated using FOP. In these process, he data retrieved from the DDBB is converted in a XML file , and the with the XSL FOP utility, the pdf is generated.
In the other hand, we have another application that consults data from a java beans, using a JSP, generates a XML with the data of the beans, and with this XML, and with a XSL file generates and html , with the data and fixed text.
Both applications have been deployed as a separated WebApp in the IAS. Both use Xalan as XML parser amb Xerces is used aswell.
So, the problem is , after generating a pdf with the firts application, every html generated via JSP-XML-XSL transformation in the second application is shown completelly bad formated. All fixed text are wrongly composed, and the text that should appear in textFields and ComboBoxes is also bad formated. The XML with the data is well generated, so the problem is in the parsing of these XML and the conversion in html through XSL. We have to re-initiate the server and then everything goes well again. If no pdf is launched, no problem occurs with the other application.
How an a WEB APP pplication can affect to another, installed both in different folders of the IAS ? We tried to change Xalan version and FOP version, but no result.
    Is this a Poltergeist ?? and X file , maybe ?
Has anyone had the same problem ?
Pleae, any help will be very wellcomed.

  • Best way to programmatically test opening a pdf

My company, among other things, uses an image processing library to do complex conversions of various types of content ... including pdfs. Sometimes, this library fails and we are looking for a way to, offline, automate the process of checking whether the pdf file was actually valid. All we really want to do is have one machine which can be triggered at some point after an error occurs to try opening the file and mark a record in our error db indicating if it could be opened or not. Then we can act accordingly.
I found pdf library but that has a lot more functionality than simply open. Also, the form to get information on this library does not work for me so I am unable to contact any sales reps from adobe. What would someone recommend for this situation and if it is pdf library, can someone tell me how to get the online submission system to work. I tried chrome and safari and neither work (I can't enter the state field in either and the submit via email button does nothing).
    Thanks

PS: If this is not the correct discussion alias, please let me know where to post. There didn't seem to be a dev sdk related disucssion

In terms of learning more about the "Adobe PDF Library", how to use it and how to license it, you should get in touch with someone at Datalogics (as far as I know Adobe only handles big key account customers themselves when it comes to the Adobe PDF Library).
Datalogics have a website at http://www.datalogics.com/ and their contact form at http://www.datalogics.com/company/contactus.asp should work just fine. If not, I'd try [email protected] ...

  • Report Generation to PDF File Fails

Has anyone else encountered anything like this. I have a report (Oracle Reports 10g) that's fairly straight-forward; the query basically joins a couple of tables and utilizes maybe a dozen Function Columns. For smaller units within my organization it works fine. I can generate the report for on-screen display or generate it as a .pdf file. If I select a larger, more complex unit on the parameter form, it will still generate the report on-screen just fine in 15-20 minutes; however, it will not generate to a .pdf file. I don't get any error messages, the Report Progress window just sits there for hours and hours, even over night.
    Any suggestions?

  • Secure generation of PDF IF

    Hi all,
As i know, a web service provide by ADOBE is used when generating a PDF IF .
I want to know if it's possible to have a secure communication ( HTTPS .... ) with this web service .
Thanks in advance for your answer.
    Bertrand

    Hi Bertrand,
    excuse the delay in responding.
For Interactive Forms, our license policy is actually pretty simple (and explained in the SDN FAQs at http://sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/uuid/2a8a0a37-0301-0010-f794-aecd1bb426e0 ):
3 criteria need to be considered:
    - Is the form INTERACTIVE?
    - Is the form a CUSTOM form (from scratch or by adding interactive elements to an SAP-delivered form)
    - Is the form used IN PRODUCTION?
If all 3 apply, you need an additional license.
I will not comment any figures as this is handled at the country level (and I am with SAP AG).
