  Can anybody give me links/info of Best Practices on Distributing one big ABAP program composed of dialog screens, reports, and some batch input to more than one programmers?

I am not sure if there are any such best practices documentation available. But creating one big ABAP program that does so many things itself, is not considered a best practice.
Correct me if I am wrong here, you want one ABAP program that gives the user a choice of reports, batch input programs and transactions(dialog screens) to choose from, and then branch out to individual functions that the users chose. This looks like more like a area menu functionality. This is how I would distribute the load, assuming my statement of your problem is correct.
Separate out each individual report, batch input and dialog components into individual programs and assign it to individual programmers. Then have one person assemble them into one area menu(the name of which will also become your transaction code.). Alternatively, you can have a wrapper ABAP program that makes all the calls to these individual programs based on user choice(which will be the selection screen for this program).

  • Creating RFCs which emulate program activity - best practice.

    Hi, First post on the forum so please be kind I'm hoping I've posted in the correct place.
    I'm looking at creating a few RFCs to enable a bit of automation. Theory is that details are passed into the RFC and the function does some magic to update the system, hitting all the BRFs etc. The transaction I'm looking at is ICLCDC02, we're quite a few patches behind so there is a lot of good RFC stuff I just don't have access to.
    My first attempt simply calls the relevant functions detailed in the program and ticks all the boxes but I have concerns. Then I had a look at BDC and found that SHDB couldn't replay some fo the screen selections - just errored out (and that was with a straight record and playback - no modification) so BDC is out for that reason and also some logic would be required so BDC is not really a good candidate IMO. My plan is to stick to calling the relevant functions which I feel may introduce some maintenance overhead.
    Is there any pest practice for situations like this? Is there a way to run the transaction without dialog, call the relevant functions to add records etc accessing the global memory of the transaction then close/save ensuring that all future BRF changes etc get hit? If this is possible then it would greatly reduce/eliminate the maintenance overhead and get rid of my nagging doubt.
    Or is my current approach the correct one?

    It sounds liek they are sending a workitem where an email would be enough. By completing the workitem they are simply acknowledging that they have received notification of the completion of the PR.
    "Our PR creator will receive notification of the PR approval to theirs outlook mail handled by a program that is scheduled every 5 minutes."
    I hope (and assume) that they only receive the email once.
    I would change the workflow to send an email (SendMail step) to the initiator instead of the workitem. That is normally what happens. Either that or there is no email at all - some businesses only send an email if something goes wrong. Of course, the business has to agree to this change.
    Having that final workitem adds nothing to the process. Replace it with an email.

    You can not run this program in back ground. Because there are GUI Functional modules which will not work in background. For this you need RFC. Take technical consultant help.
    This program is related to some CO stuff (Result analysis key) . Are you using PS module ?

  • Naming a customisation by extension concurrent program - best practice

    Hi,
    I am developing a customisation by extension of the seeded concurrent program ‘Open Purchase Orders Report(by Cost Center)’ and need to decide on a name for my custom program in the Concurrent Programs (FNDCPMCP) form.
    I would like to know if there is documented best practice for naming my custom program i.e. should I name my custom program with a prefix to differentiate it from the seeded version e.g. ‘ABCD Open Purchase Orders Report(by Cost Center)’.

    have a look at Oracle Application Developer's Guide. There's a chapter (named "Defining your custom application")
    with recommendations regarding defining custom applications:

    In fact you should start with defining a custom application in System Administrator (according to Oracle's recommendation
    it shouldn't be more than 4 characters, starting with "XX" to avoid conflicts with Oracle's own application short names).
    After that you can register your custom reports/forms/concurrents with the newly created application.

  • What is the best practice for uninstalling only some CS4 programs (Win 7 PC)

    I recently upgraded from CS4 to CS5.5 and wanted to free up some hard drive space on my Windows 7 PC. I wanted to uninstall only a few programs though from CS4, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash and Bridge. What is the best way to do this keeping in mind licensing, deactivating and properly removing components? I have the original installation disk for CS4 if needed. Thanks for any help!

    Best practice: Uninstall everything (including your CS5.5), run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, then reinstall the components you need from both editions. CS4 may have a repair/ change configuration mode, but I'd strongly advise against using it, as it will do more damage than good, so use the long way round. It's also the only way to not bust up file associations with an uninstall of CS4...

  • Best practices: Programming for future deployment

    Hi All.. I'm starting this thread to see if I can find a consensus about the best practices for programming for future deployment of Flex apps.
    Using Flex Builder, in creating a simple portal app I use "Import Web Service (WSDL)" to make the ActionScript framework for webservices which I consume. I have coded those web services in .asmx (c# web services for .NET) and run them locally. The framework Flex Builder creates is just fine, and I can run my app locally with no problem. Where I run into an issue is deployment.
    My intention is to distribute the database, the .NET webservices, and the Flex app as a complete solution to my end customers.
    What are the best practices in programming for complete deployability?
    The main issues I'm facing:
    1. Using inbuilt features like "Import Web Service (WSDL)" creates a framework around a named webservice. Upon deployment the URL for these services will change. How can you make it easy to switch the site webservices are consumed from? Can Flex apps be set up to use an environment variable, or even read a local file for the URL of the webservice I want it to point at? (i.e. something in web.config or elsewhere?)
    2. Should I NOT use "Import Web Service" at all, and write the code by hand? Note: this is VERY time consuming for the number of services that are exposed in larger apps. My typical dev cycle consists of parallel updates/upgrades to web services as they are demanded by elements incorporated in the Flex app.. so it's very convenient to just re-import the WSDL as I make changes.

    I'd like to discuss the Best Practices regarding the setup of jobs to send Process Messages
    In my company we have a batch job with two steps. Each steps contain one variant of program RCOCB004.
    The first step will send messages with Status "To be sent", "To be resubmitted" and "To be resubm. w/warng"
    The second step will send messages with Status "Destination Error", "Terminated", "Incomplete"
    However, this job sometimes fails with error "Preceding job not yet completed (plant US07)"
    I'd like to discuss what is best way to set up this job in order to avoid this error and also improve performance.

    To keep the number of message logs in the system low, proceed as follows:
          1. Check the report variants for report RCOCB004 used in your send jobs.The sending of messages in status "Destination error" or "Terminated" is only useful if the error is corrected without manual intervention;for example with messages of category PI_PHST, if the sequence of the messages or time events was swapped in the first send process.
          2. Regularly delete the logs of the messages that were not sent to the destination PI01 using report RCOCB009 (Transaction CO62).
          3. Check whether it it is actually required to send messages to the destination PI01.This is only useful if you want to evaluate the data of these messages by means of the process data evaluation, or if the message data including the logs are to be a part of the process data documentation or the batch log. Remove destination PI01 for the message categories to which the above-mentioned criteria does not apply.You can activate destination PI01 again at a later stage.
          4. If you still want to send process messages to destination PI01, carry out a regular archiving of your process orders.As a result of the archiving, the message copies and logs in the process message record are also deleted.
          5. If the described measures do not suffice, you can delete the logs using Transaction SLG2.
    Control recipe send = RCOCB006 and you need to set the job to run after event SAP_NEW_CONTROL_RECIPES
    Process message send = RCOCB002 (cross plant) and RCOCB004 (specific plant). You need to create variants for these.
    Check the IMG documentation in PPPI for control recipes and process instructions where there is more information about this. Also standard SAP help is quite good on these points.
    Finally, if you are automatically generating process instructions then you need program RCOCRPVG plus appropriate variants.

  • Best practice on sqlite for games?

    Hi Everyone, I'm new to building games/apps, so I apologize if this question is redundant...
    I am developing a couple games for Android/iOS, and was initially using a regular (un-encrypted) sqlite database. I need to populate the database with a lot of info for the games, such as levels, store items, etc. Originally, I was creating the database with SQL Manager (Firefox) and then when I install a game on a device, it would copy that pre-populated database to the device. However, if someone was able to access that app's database, they could feasibly add unlimited coins to their account, unlock every level, etc.
    So I have a few questions:
    First, can someone access that data in an APK/IPA app once downloaded from the app store, or is the method I've been using above secure and good practice?
    Second, is the best solution to go with an encrypted database? I know Adobe Air has the built-in support for that, and I have the perfect article on how to create it (Ten tips for building better Adobe AIR applications | Adobe Developer Connection) but I would like the expert community opinion on this.
    Now, if the answer is to go with encrypted, that's great - but, in doing so, is it possible to still use the copy function at the beginning or do I need to include all of the script to create the database tables and then populate them with everything? That will be quite a bit of script to handle the initial setup, and if the user was to abandon the app halfway through that population, it might mess things up.
    Any thoughts / best practice / recommendations are very appreciated. Thank you!

    I'll just post my own reply to this.
    What I ended up doing, was creating the script that self-creates the database and then populates the tables (as unencrypted... the encryption portion is commented out until store publishing). It's a tremendous amount of code, completely repetitive with the exception of the values I'm entering, but you can't do an insert loop or multi-line insert statement in AIR's SQLite so the best move is to create everything line by line.
    This creates the database, and since it's not encrypted, it can be tested using Firefox's SQLite manager or some other database program. Once you're ready for deployment to the app stores, you simply modify the above set to use encryption instead of the unencrypted method used for testing.
    So far this has worked best for me. If anyone needs some example code, let me know and I can post it.

    I have a bash script with a lot of if/else constructs in the form of

    else
    <do other stuff>
    exit
    fi
    This could also be structured as
    if ! <condition>
    then
    <do other stuff>
    exit
    fi
    <do stuff>
    The first one seems more structured, because it explicitly associates <do stuff> with the condition.  But the second one seems more logical because it avoids explicitly making a choice (then/else) that doesn't really need to be made.
    Is one of the two more in line with "best practice" from pure bash or general programming perspectives?

    I'm not sure if there are 'formal' best practices, but I tend to use the latter form when (and only when) it is some sort of error checking.
    Essentially, this would be when <do stuff> was more of the main purpose of the script, or at least that neighborhood of the script, while <do other stuff> was mostly cleaning up before exiting.
    I suppose more generally, it could relate to the size of the code blocks.  You wouldn't want a long involved <do stuff> section after which a reader would see an "else" and think 'WTF, else what?'.  So, perhaps if there is a substantial disparity in the lengths of the two conditional blocks, put the short one first.
    But I'm just making this all up from my own preferences and intuition.
    When nested this becomes more obvious, and/or a bigger issue.  Consider two scripts:
    if [[ test1 ]]
    then
    if [[ test2 ]]
    then
    echo "All tests passed, continuing..."
    else
    echo "failed test 2"
    exit
    fi
    else
    echo "failed test 1"
    fi
    if [[ ! test1 ]]
    then

    This just gets far worse with deeper levels of nesting.  The second seems much cleaner.  In reality though I'd go even further to

    echo "passed all tests, continuing..."

  • Home Movie Cataloging - BEST PRACTICES

    I have about 200 hours of old home movies on VHS which I am in the process of adding to my iMac. I am wondering about 'best practices' on how much video can be stored inside of iMovie '08, when how much video becomes too much inside of the program, etc.
    In a perfect world, I'd like to simply import all of my home videos into iMovie, leave them in the 'library' section, and make 2-5 minute long clips in the 'projects' section for sharing with family members, but never deleting anything from the 'library'. Is this a good way to store original data? Would it be smarter to export all of the original video content to .DV files or something like that for space saving, etc?
    Can I use iMovie to store and catalog all of my old home movies in the same way I use iPhoto to store ALL of my photos, and iTunes to store ALL of my music/hollywood-movies, etc?

    We-ell, since no-one else has replied:
    1 hour of DV (digital video in the file system which iMovie uses) needs 13GB of hard disc space.
    You have 200 hours of video. 200 x 13 = 2,600 gigabytes. Two point six terabytes. If you put all that on one-and-a-bit 2TB hard discs, and a hard disc fails - oops! - where's your backup? ..Ah, on another one-and-a-bit 2TB hard discs ..or, preferably, spread over several hard discs, so that if one fails you haven't lost everything!
    iMovie - the program - can handle video stored on external discs. But are you willing to pay the price for those discs? If so; fine! Digitise all your VHS and store it on computer discs (prices come down month by month).
    Yes, you can "mix'n'match" clips between different projects, making all sorts of "mash-ups" or new videos from all the assorted video clips. But you'll need more hard disc space for the editing, too. You could use your iMac's internal hard disc for that ..or use one of the external discs for doing the editing on. That's how professionals edit: all the video "assets" on external discs, and edit onto another disc. That's what I do with my big floorstander PowerMac, or whatever those big cheesegraters were called..
    So the idea's fine, as long as you have all the external storage you'd need, plus the backup in case one of those discs fails, and all the time and patience to digitise 200 hours of VHS.
    Note that importing from VHS will import material as one long, continuous take - there'll be no automatic scene breaks between different shots - so you'll have to spend many hours chopping up the material into different clips after importing it.
    Best way to index that? Dunno; there have been several programs which supposedly do the job for you (..I can't remember their names; I've tried a few: find them by Googling..) but they've been more trouble - and taken up more disc space - than I've been prepared to bother with. I'd jot down the different clips as you create them, either by jotting in TextEdit (simplest) or in a database or spreadsheet program such as Excel or Numbers or similar ..or even in a notebook.
    Jot down the type of footage (e.g; 16th Birthday party), name of clip (e.g; 016 party), duration (e.g; 06:20 mins and seconds) and anything else you might need to identify each clip.

  • Best practice for responding to keyDown event

    I am writing my first Cocoa application.  It's a simple utility app -- a calculator.  I've got everything working, the last thing I want to add is I want the app to respond to key press events.  So, you could click the "4" button with the mouse, or you could just press the "4" key on the keyboard.  I'm reading all the event handling documentation, but I'm not picking up on the recommended approach for getting an NSResponder (or NSView) that handles the event.
    I can make a subclass of NSWindow and tell the interface builder to make the main window of that type.  Then when I override the keyDown message in my new NSWindow subclass, it gets the events, but I'm not sure how to connect it to my application delegate class (since I basically just want to switch on the key pressed and call the corresponding message in the delegate that the button "select" action targets.
    Or, I think I heard something about doing this by changing the super class of the application delegate class from NSObject to NSView, or NSResponder or something.  I haven't poked at that idea much, but I'm not sure how to actually get the application delegate object then actually set up as the first responder (I think that's what I'd want to do).
    So, I'm hoping someone can give me specific directions on how/where I should implement my keyDown method, but I'd also like to understand what the recommended "best practice" is for doing this.  What would Apple say is the right architecture for doing this?  I'm as much interested in learning how to make this work as learning the Apple design pattern behind it.
    The structure of my program is as follows:
    I have one nib file (actualy a .xib) where I've designed my window with a textbox for display and a hand-ful of buttons.  I've registered outlets and actions from there to the AppDelegate class (the one that the standard project template sets up for you).  Following the MVC pattern, I then have a Calculator class that the AppDelegate initializes and all the actual logic of the calculator is in that class.  The AppDelegate basically just responds to messages from the buttons, passes them along to methods in the Calculator class, and then asks the Calculator for the current display value and updates that back into the textbox. So, the graphical elements in my nib file are the "view", the AppDelegate is the "controler" and the Calculator class is the "model".  Right? 
    So, who is supposed to be handling keyDown events?   Seems like the view should capture them and send them to the controller, but how do I set that up?

    we need guidance on best practice for setting up SHARED CALENDAR on Office365 exchange server for entire organization (school)of150 staff.
    Requirements
    + all staff should have read only / reviewer permissions on calendar
    +handful staff should have editor permissions on calendar
    + the calendar should synchronise custom categories and colors
    Current Solution
    at the moment we have found that a shared mailbox is the best solution because;
    - allusers can add the shared mailbox on outlook 2010as additional mailbox as readonly
    - all the categories & colors for the calendarare automatically synchronised because the color categories are stored within this mailbox.
    - you can edit calendar permissions in outlook to allow some users as "editor" of the calendar.Problem with Current Solution
    the problem however is that the users also need to access this...

    I think Inactive mailboxes in Exchange Online is the feature that you want. This feature makes it possible for you to preserve (store and archive) the contents of deleted mailboxes indefinitely.
    A mailbox becomes inactive when an In-Place Hold or a
    Litigation Hold is placed on the mailbox before the corresponding Office 365 user account is deleted.
    But I'm afraid that it might be impossible to "easily share certain folders or even whole mailbox with people in the company". As can been seen from below articles, this only allows administrators, compliance officers, or records managers
    to use the In-Place eDiscovery feature in Exchange Online to access and search the contents of an inactive mailbox:

  • Workflow not completed, is this best practice for PR?

    Hi SAP Workflow experts,
    I am new in workflow and now responsible to support existing PR release workflow.
    The workflow is quite simple and straightforward but the issue here is the workflow seems like will never be completed.
    If the user released the PR, the next activity is Requisition released that using task TS20000162.
    This will send work item to user (pr creator) sap inbox which when they double click it will complete the workflow.
    The thing here is, in our organization, user does not access SAP inbox hence there are thousands of work item that has not been completed. (our procurement system started since 2009).
    Our PR creator will receive notification of the PR approval to theirs outlook mail handled by a program that is scheduled every 5 minutes.
    Since the documentation is not clear enough, i can't digest why the implementer used this approach.
    May I know whether this is the best practice for PR workflow or not?
    Now my idea is to modify the send email program to complete the workitem after the email being sent to user outlook mail.
    Not sure whether it is common or not though in workflow world.
    Any help is deeply appreciated.

    It sounds liek they are sending a workitem where an email would be enough. By completing the workitem they are simply acknowledging that they have received notification of the completion of the PR.

    I hope (and assume) that they only receive the email once.
    I would change the workflow to send an email (SendMail step) to the initiator instead of the workitem. That is normally what happens. Either that or there is no email at all - some businesses only send an email if something goes wrong. Of course, the business has to agree to this change.
    Having that final workitem adds nothing to the process. Replace it with an email.
