Progress bar check-in...

Developed a lot with Captivate but took a couple of years using web content and back doing some captivate again.  My question is, is there an easier way to do custom progress bars in versions 7 or 8?  Do we have to assign events/variables to each thing or is there an embedded way or widget that can handle this now?  We have an array of elearning we are going to publish soon that just uses either next/back buttons or auto-rotates so trying to find a way for user to see where they are are (slide % or make a slide part of progress indicator).  thanks for the help as always

Well for some of the elearnings we would want every piece part of the progress so yes TOC would work but not the look we were gearing at.  For most though we would have maybe 5-10 major sections and once each section was done we would want the progress bar to progress.  I have handled this by creating events/variables to push back to an area of the page...  I was part of the adobe customer qa group back then and thought this was on their to-do list but maybe I am wrong about that.  It isn't that this is hard to do but the fact is I just do the harder things and manage a group that does these things and it can be complicated for the non-programmer type.

  • Problem installating Snow Leopard on old Macbook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo. After creating partition on internal hard disk (Extended Journaled), installation starts but stops at half of the progress bar. Screen asking Restart appears.

    Hello:
    I have tried installing Snow Leopard via the installation disc on a Macbook Pro (2007) with an Intel Core 2 Duo, but I the installation has failed more than 5 times.
    I have first formatted and partitioned the internal hard disk with Mac Os Extended Journal format.
    Once the installation starts, it starts without a problem unti lthe progress bar gest until half completed then a screen asking for a Computer Restart shows up.
    It asks to press the power button for some time until it the computer shuts down and then, press again to turn it on.
    Once turned on, the installation disc gets readed, the installation screen appears again and asks again to start the whole installation process form the beginning.

    Then you have a Hardware Problem.
    Your system is Crashing part way through the install and Re-Booting because of the crash.
    Could be the drive itself or it could be some other hardware part in your system. Like the RAM.
    To check if it is the internal drive connect an External drive to the system by USB and do the install on that external. If the install completes then it more then likely the drive is bad. If it crashes again then it is more then likely some other piece of hardware in your system.

  • Intel iMac - won't start - grey screen & progress bar

    I have a 2006 Intel iMac - 20" model, Intel Core Duo, 2GHz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, etc.  It was one of the very earliest Intel iMacs.  Kept updated, running OS 10.6, etc.
    It has worked extremely well for over 5 years - apart from the Superdrive being temperamental sometimes - but has suddenly gone wrong.
    Last week the machine completely froze for no apparent reason.  I had to force a reboot.  This failed - grey screen and the grey spinning wheel (if that's what it's called), indefinitely.
    Forced reboot again and this time held down the shift key to go into safe boot mode.  This time it was successful, and I was able to get to the logon screen & log myself in.  I opened Disk Utility & attempted to do some diagnostics but the machine froze again.
    Looking around various other forum postings...I rebooted the machine in single user mode and was able to get to the command line to type 'fsck -fy' to attempt to fix disk problems.  This failed repeatedly, with an error message 'invalid node structure'.
    I tried to boot my machine from the OS X disc but my Superdrive refused to play ball - it would not read the disc (or any other disc for that matter, including a copy of DiskWarrior that I have).
    I have now got hold of an external DVD drive in the hope that this would show up as a boot device when I switch the machine on while holding the option key down.  No such luck - the drive powers up ok (power via USB) but I'm not given the option to boot from it - in fact that screen doesn't appear at all.
    All that happens now on powering up - regardless of what I do - is the grey apple symbol appears and a progress bar beneath it.  The progress bar gets stuck about 5% of the way along, and then after about 10 minutes it disappears and is replaced with the grey spinning wheel thingy.  And then it just gets stuck - nothing else happens.
    HELP!
    All my important data is backed up on an external drive via Time Machine, so that should be safe, but I'm desperate to get the machine running again.
    One thing that occurred to me is that I've had a program called ReFit installed on the machine which allowed me to run the machine as dual boot etc. (and I do have a couple of other small partitions on the drive, not currently used) but the ReFit welcome screen stopped appearing a couple of weeks ago for some reason.  I'm wondering if this has somehow messed things up...?
    Grateful for any suggestions...
    Thanks,
    Alan.

    For the drive, you should be OK with any SATA 2 at 3 MB/s transfer speed. You could also use a SATA 1, no jumpers needed. (Not SATA 3 - can't be jumpered down.) The early 2006 Intels were 1.5 MB/s -- at least the drives were, so I'm assuming the SATA controller on the logic board was also. Might just be SATA 2 hadn't yet been introduced and can run the faster SATA 3 without jumpers. My guess is not. You should be able to set jumpers on the drive for backwards compatibility. You'll have to contact the drive manufacturer or go to their website for that info.
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/imac-core-2-duo-2.16-20-inch-sp ecs.html
    As for the superdrive, I'd contact the manufacturer to check on compatibility.
    Glad I'm able to help. BTW, in case you haven't noticed, maybe you want to have a look here.

  • Director 12 - progress bar

    I need to add a progress bar to the splash screen of a Director 12 .dcr which is hosted on a website.
    The progress bar doesn't have to show the exact time remaining before the main.dcr starts, it just gives the user a rough indication that "loading" is happening.
    I was thinking of using an animated .gif for this, making the .gif visible when the user clicks the Start button, but I don't knon how to do this in Director.
    Is there a standard way to make a loading-in-progress indicator in Director, for a web hosted .dcr?

  • ITunes store won't load. The progress bar freezes at about 50% and I get nothing but a white screen.

    I'm running iTunes 10.5 beta 7 but this issue has been happening since I was running 9.  One day I clicked on a link for an app I saw on techcrunch and it pulled up in iTunes as being in the UK store.  I clicked ok and my iTunes hasn't worked since.  I can log into my account but can't access anything in the store or Ping.  I've googled this issue and found some similar sounding stories but none of the solutions have worked.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled, turned of the itunes store in parental settings and checked "except for iTunes U", I've uninstalled apple aplication suport and installed safari and every other option I have found and nothing has worked.
    Sometimes if I let it sit long enough what looks like an unstyled version of the store comes up but is completely unusable.
    Just to be clear, this has been happening since before I was running any beta software or OS.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you gchin.
    I emailed apple support and they got back to me, I did what he said and it's fixed! SOLUTION found- see below.
    I said:
    "I can't access the iTunes Store. When I click on it the progress bar stops at 50% and I'm left with a blank white screen (no error msg). I have uninstalled and reinstalled, run the iTunes diagnostics (it said all was ok), gone through all of the online help material and I've tried turning off my firewall. Nothing works. I can't sync my iphone either (stops on verifying iPhone so I think it's getting stuck on trying to contact the store). Plzz help."

  • Gray progress bar on boot twice now

    I've experienced a gray bar on boot twice now. I upgraded to a 2011 MBP and transferred my 500 GB Toshiba SSD from last year's MBP into the new model, into the SuperDrive slot using a MCE OptiBay (I put the existing SSD into the OptiBay since the SuperDrive's SATA channel is 3Gbps and the Vertex III I have on order is 6Gbps and will use the system's primary SATA channel). The drive has worked flawlessly for a year, and Disk Utility reports no errors, but Googling the issue indicates that the gray progress bar appears when fschk is checking the drive. I've noticed that my wallpaper has been slow to appear on both occasions, defaulting to the OS X default for a few moments after I log in.
    I'm concerned that my drive is going bad, but cannot find any indication that this is the case beyond the intermittent gray progress bar on boot. At least one time after boot the progress bar occurred after a Software Update (Security and Safari). My system's logs also give me no indication what the problem might me. Here is one boot log that resulted in a gray progress bar - https://gist.github.com/922265.
    I'd appreciate any help on the matter. Thanks!

    I would expect either issue to produce a slow boot either time if either package were the problem. Both packages have been installed for a couple of yours without issue. Also, both apps produce these errors on normal boots as well. I wonder if the errors have to do with the fact that the applications weren't installed on the OS, rather they were already present after I put the old HD in the new system and "upgraded" the OS in place using the system disc that came with the new laptop in order to have the Sandy Bridge drivers installed.
    I was hoping you or someone might spot something slightly more definitive in the logs. The time gaps are definitely interesting to me. I think I'll see if I can turn on verbose logging and get any more telling information. Thanks for your help!

  • HT1923 iTunes on my Windows Vista has failed to update over several weeks. Attempting uninstal/reinstall according to iTunes support page. Will not uninstall 'Apple Mobile Device Support' - goes to 99% then progress bar unwinds completely. Tried rebooting

    iTunes on my Windows Vista has failed to update over several weeks. Audio will not play out. Attempting uninstal/reinstall according to iTunes support page. Will not uninstall 'Apple Mobile Device Support' - goes to 99% then progress bar unwinds completely. Tried rebooting. Any clues??

    Hey petanque1,
    Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues installing iTunes for Windows. The following article outlines the error message you are receiving and a potential resolution:
    iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
    Some Windows customers may experience installation issues while trying to install or open iTunes 11.1.4.
    Symptoms may include:
    "The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer"

    "Runtime Error: R6034 - An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly"
    "Entry point not found: videoTracks@QTMovie@@QBE?AV?$Vector@V?$RefPtr@VQTTrack@@@***@@$0A@VCrashOnOverf low@@***@@XZ could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\WebKit.dll”
    Resolution
    Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Check for .dll files
    1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
    2. If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    3. Reboot your computer.
    Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
    1. Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
    2. Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using theMicrosoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.

    Hello All,
    I have a dashboard in EP, when I click on it the majority of the time a progress bar appears when it is loading.  Some time it does not, the page just appears to be doing nothing, then the dashboard will appear.
    Any one else seen this issue?

  • When I try to format an external usb drive  the progress bar only goes half way then freezes up can anybody help please

    When I try to format an external usb drive  the progress bar gets to half way then freezes , or stops and  what ever time I allow it never gets any futher on , I have to go to the task bar and click quit  to get on  and the usb drive is not formatted  is there a fault with my disk utility program  I have updated the system
    to lion 10.7.2
    Can anybody advise please

    Are these new external drives? How are the currently formatted? Have you tried doing this:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.

  • [JS] CS3 ScriptUI - Progress Bar

    Hi
    I know I am late to the game with ScriptUI in CS3, but I would like to use a progress bar with some of my longer scripts.
    I have read through the relevant part of the scripting guide, but cannot seem to make things work, the guide seems to reference a script that is not in the file.
    Can anyone offer some simple guidance on what I need to do, or point me in the direction of a script that uses this feature that I can pull apart and use?
    Thanks in advance,
    Roy Marshall

    Hi Roy,
    I just looked at my archives of the old forums, and it looks like you asked the same question almost two years ago...
    Here's a quote of xbytor's response from back then:
    Here's my contribution to this thread. This function creates and returns a
    Progress Palette. You specify the window's title, the max/min for the progress
    bar, and whether or not you want to use a Cancel button. If you decided to have
    a Cancel button, you should also specify an 'onCancel' on the Palette.
    Code:
    // createProgressWindow
    //   title     the window title
    //   min       the minimum value for the progress bar
    //   max       the maximum value for the progress bar
    //   parent    the parent ScriptUI window (opt)
    //   useCancel flag for having a Cancel button (opt)
    //   onCancel  This method will be called when the Cancel button is pressed.
    //             This method should return 'true' to close the progress window
    function createProgressWindow(title, min, max, parent, useCancel) {
       var win = new Window('palette', title);
       win.bar = win.add('progressbar', undefined, min, max);
       win.bar.preferredSize = [300, 20];
       win.parent = undefined;
       if (parent) {
         if (parent instanceof Window) {
           win.parent = parent;
         } else if (useCancel == undefined) {
           useCancel = parent;
       if (useCancel) {
         win.cancel = win.add('button', undefined, 'Cancel');
         win.cancel.onClick = function() {
           try {
             if (win.onCancel) {
               var rc = win.onCancel();
               if (rc || rc == undefined) {
                 win.close();
             } else {
               win.close();
           } catch (e) {
             alert(e);
       win.updateProgress = function(val) {
         var win = this;
         win.bar.value = val;
         // recenter the progressWindow if desired
         // win.center(win.parent);
         win.show();
         win.hide();
         win.show();
       win.center(win.parent);
       return win;
    And here's an example of how it would be used. In this example, we are
    processing an array of files. We call a 'processFile' method for each file in
    the array.
    We also add an 'isDone' property to the Palette, which we set to 'true' in an
    'onCancel' method. This makes it possible for the user to terminate the file
    processing loop before all of the files have been processed.
    Sample Code (in some function):
       // we have to process an array of 'files'
       var progressWindow = createProgressWindow("Progress...",
                                                 0, files.length, true);
       progressWindow.isDone = false;
       progressWindow.onCancel = function() {
         this.isDone = true;
         return true;  // return 'true' to close the window
       try {
         for (var i = 0; i < files.length; i++) {
           // check to see if the user pressed the 'Cancel' button...
           if (progressWindow.isDone) {
             break;
           progressWindow.text = ("Processing file " + (i+1) + " of " + files.length
    + "...");
           progressWindow.updateProgress(i);
            // now process the next file
            processFile(files[i]);
       } catch (e) {
         alert(e);
       } finally {
         progressWindow.close();
    I've tested this in PSCS2 and PSCS3. It should work without change in IDCS3.

  • [SOLVED] Almost there just need a global progress bar

    Heya,
    There's no man page for bar so I have looked at the code a bit. I am trying to have a progress bar to copy a folder with many files including symbolic links (unfortunately pycp does not support them yet). With the -s parameter, I can specify the approximate size of what I am copying but it works only if it is a single file.
    I have also tried pv, pipemeter, orphan advcp, ecp, scp and I am now desperate.

    This might help http://www.dwcourse.com/dreamweaver/ten-commandments-spry-menubars.php#one
    Also, if you use DW CS5 click on Live Code and Live View. Then when clicking on the menu items in Live View, watch the changes in classes that occur. This mifgt give you a clue of what to do.

  • IMac first shows progress bar on startup and then won't start up at all!

    Hi,
    My iMac's somewhat ill I'm afraid. When I power it up, the Apple gong goes and I see the grey Apple logo appear. Few seconds later an progress bar shows up and it doesn't fill, in a minute it'll just disappears and the spinning thing under the logo appears. I've been waiting for over an hour and still nothing happened. I've tried force-powering it off and boot it up again, but still the same results, this is very very very annoying, especially since I don't know what to do at all about this expect for a complete clean install, but that'll be the last option I want, because all my photo's are on it, etc.
    I've installed, an complete clean install, of Snow Leopard a month or two ago, and yesterday I powered the computer off the regular way.
    Thanks a lot in advance you guys!
    EDIT
    Another weird thing going on: I have my hard drive configured in two partition, one for Windows (sorry, needed to run AutoCad) and one for Mac OS. Now when I start up with the option button I get to see the two partitions and their names. My Mac drive now has got a different name, it's the same name, but with a " 1" behind it.
    When I select the partition on Windows Vista, it now shows these disturbing folders:

    HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Boot from your install disc and run Disk Utiity to see if there are errors on the startup disk that need repairing.
    Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
    Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
    Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
    Select First Aid in the Main panel.
    *(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
    Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
    If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
    If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
    When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
    Select your start up disk and click Restart
    While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*
    If you cannot boot from your install disc, try booting in Safe Mode
    What is Safe Mode
    *" because all my photo's are on it, etc."*
    If you can get the iMac to boot normally I suggest you back up those photos and any other important data to an external source ASAP in case there's a problem.
    No idea why you are seeing those folders in Windows. Boot from your install disc and see what's going on.

  • Progress bar for unmarshalling?

    Hi all,
    Can anyone give me an idea on how to track unmarshalling with progress bar.
    Here is a situation: I'm unmarsalling XML file to get my working object(s).
    Object obj = unmarshaller.unmarshal(file)Anyway, for big files I would like to present a user with some progressbar which
    will indicate loading progress.
    Is this doable?
    Thanks

    If you are trying to update the progress bar display when your upload is 10%, 20%, , , x% complete, then you have to 'pretend' that the progress bar display corresponds to the percentage completness of your file upload. I believe that there is no other way to get around this without comprimising the speed of your upload.
    Check out the swing forum, I believe there is a lot of discussion on this topic.

  • Send/Receive progress bar is not shown in Outlook 2010

    Hi friends,
    when ever i press send and receive option or F9, am not getting the send and receive progress bar in the bottom of the corner side. kindly help me

    Hi,
    If you click the "Update Folder" button, will the Send/receive status bar appear?
    Please browse to: %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook, rename the .srs file to ".old", then start Outlook again to check if the problem persists. The .srs file stores the send/receive
    settings and a new copy of it resets the send/receive settings, check if then the problem is gone.
