Project 2010 SP1 Installation Crashes

I'm trying to create a package that will handle both brand new installations for Project 2010 as well as upgrade installations for those running Project 2007, the latter of which represents a large population in our environment.
I basically followed the same process I used when creating packages for Office 2007, Office 2010, Project 2007 and Visio 2007, all of which work today:
run setup.exe /admin
create a new .msp
make my adjustments (very few)
save into Updates directory
customized PrjPro.WW\config.xml (after first creating a backup!)
run setup.exe
I'm testing the package on a machine that previously had Project 2007, but after running for a short time, setup crashes. I thought maybe the problem was with the config.xml so I undid the changes one at a time, then moved up to restoring the orignal
config.xml file but it continues to crash.
There's a setup log in %temp% that contains what may be the core issue

I've checked a few things but I can't figure this out
restored config.xml
used no msp
Office Source Engine (OSE) service startup type is set to 'Manual'
copied ose.exe again from DVD
copied entire DVD over again
I'm beginning to wonder if there's an issue with the existing Project 2007 installation, or the way it was uninstalled [by the Project 2010 setup] - but maybe its something altogether different.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

My point above is that Project 2007 was extremely buggy and unless files are saved using Project 2007 SP3 first you are likely to experience problems with the files when opening in project 2010. Project 2007 to 2010 with no service packs is problematic.
With SPs applied you should have far fewer problems.
Doesn't look like a exe with SP2 is available yet so you need to add the service pack separately, probably in the updates folder.
If all Project 2007 installs are already at SP3 then no need for this.

Microsoft Answers. However was are also still occasionally seeing the problem after uninstalling SP1.

After installing Office 2010 SP1, you may receive random crashes when opening objects in certain databases and when trying to open the VBA window in those databases. If you look in the event viewer the crash info may look similar to the following:

Workaround:
Microsoft is aware of the issue and it is currently being investigated. In order to work around the problem, you can try the following:
1.      Make a copy / backup of your database.
2.      On the problematic machine decompile the database by running the following from a Run command line: MSACCESS.EXE <path to database file> /decompile
(example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\MSAccess.exe "C:\folder\database.accdb" /decompile)
3.      Close the database.
4.      Open the database again normally.
In addition to this, if you experience the crash please send the error report when prompted to do so after the crash.

SCCM 2012 - Project 2010 Standard deployment failed with error 1603

Hi everyone,
I’m in the progress to roll out a software deployment via SCCM 2012, it’s to remove the current Project 2010 Professional we installed and reinstall the Standard version. We got a task sequence for the job, which is Reboot>Un-install Project 2010 Pro>Reboot>Install
Project 2010 Std.
The Un-installation process uses this command: setup.exe /uninstall PrjPro /config "PrjPro.WW\uninstall.xml"
The Installation process uses this command: setup.exe /adminfile project_silent_install.MSP
But the deployment result is quite random, some of the PCs would succeed without any issue, some of them with fail at the installation process with 1708/1603 error. As far as I know we use standard Win 7 64bits SOE across the environment, so everyone should
have same system baseline.
I reviewed some of the failed Project 2010 Standard installation logs as it shows the following:

1603 means there is a fatal error during installation process.

I did do fair a bit of Googling before I started the post. I have increased the logging level on one of the machines failed on the installation. Apparently Project installation log doesn't throw the "return value 3", I think it's pointing to a particular
updating item, anyone knows what is it?

Application crashes in Windows 7 64bit made in Labview 2010 sp1 f2 with Fault module name%3A lvrt.dll%2C version 10.0.0.4033 and exception code c0000005

I build an application exe and then its installer along with run time environment.

The exe /application runs fine on my PC but when I try to run it on another PC it crashes. The other PC has similar specs as given below

I tried another machine, 64 bit of course, as I want to deploy my application on a 64bit PC, but still got the same problem.
This other machine was from HP, iCore 3 (4 CPUs) 2.2GHz, 4GB RAM and running Windows Professional 64 bit.
Now as I see it, it could be a Run-time environment mis-match error.
For this I tried installing a 64 bit LVRTE from NI, but still no sucess.
I checked DEP, for all 3 PCs and it was set to the following
Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only (first option).
I am confused. I can not find a solution for this and it is really frustrating.

But I am assuming that when I make the installer, the 32-bit Run Time Engine is appened with the installer, as show below
Since from the picture you can see its including the support installers from '\Program Files (x86)\'
The application runs queries to fetch data from database in SQL server 2008, and for that I am using a Microsoft SQL Native Client 2008 R2 64 bit ( this is the only version that installs on either PC, even the one on which I developed my LV Application).
I am not using any driver, only toolkits for reports - and for that I un-checked the "Remove unused polymorphic VI instances" when making the executable, otherwise LV throws up an exception that share variable are not being included.
Yes I did reboot every time after I ran the installation.
Still getting the same error.

Activating Project Professional 2010 after a crash

I am looking to reactivate/reinstall Project Professional 2010 after a crash. I have a product activation code having downloaded the software online (no disks). What do I need to do?

Tom,
It should be pretty straightforward. I assume you saved a copy of the .img file you downloaded to a location that was safe from your crash. Without that you're probably out of luck.
Just re-install from the .img file and when the installation gets to the part for activation, go ahead and activate it.

Error when trying to migrate project from labwindows 2010 SP1 over to VS2008

I'm sure I've been successful back with this when running CVI 8.5 and VS2003 / 2005, but I keep gettin the following error when trying to do this with my current configuration. What am I missing?

Not recently, but what I would say is that CVI 2010 SP1 was installed after my VS2008 installation, so it ought to be in the right order.... When I get a moment I'll reinstall the CVI runtime and see what happens. Its not critical that I get this fixed, as the project in question is so small, and as the important parts are almost competely ANSI C, it should be really easy to reconstruct in C# anyway. I'll let you know what happens anyway

Do I *really* need a Service Connection Point in AD to complete a Project Server 2010 SP2 installation?

I have installed Project Server 2010 SP2 and run psconfig.exe
PSCONFIG is failing because it cannot set up a Service Connection Point in AD. I've checked in AD and the contains 'Microsoft SharePoint Products' does not exist. All the resolutions I can find suggest adding the container into AD.
The issue I have is that I have no control of the AD, and adding containers will take lengthily negotiation.
Is there any way of completing the installation and getting my site back without adding the container into AD?

4) Try running the psconfig.exe command a second time
5) had the same issue and called Microsoft support. Here is the fix:
Stop the "SharePoint 2010 Timer" service
Delete ONLY the xml files from C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\SharePoint\Config\216f8013-b78b-4e5b-8631-3a5f4c7277e8
Note: Do NOT delete the cache.ini file in this folder
Edit cache.ini and change to "1"
Start "SharePoint
2010 Timer" service
Run psconfig again: PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -force

Project Server 2010 (SP1) - Project not loaded in Project Professional

Hi,
We are currently facing an issue with a Project Server 2010 SP1 implementation.
When users are trying to open a plan within Microsoft Project Professional as from the Project Center, the client is loading and is opening only "Project 1". The selected project is not opening.
If Microsoft Project Professional is already opened, the selected project is rightly loaded.
Nothing relevant within the Events Viewer or within the ULS log files.

Thank you for your very informative reply. Please accept the comments below in the interest of understanding the problem a little better. I will read your articles and comment on them, if applicable.
What I think you are suggesting is basically for me to provide more information. Perhaps you could advise on how my concern could best be addressed. It's a simple matter of copying and pasting lines until it crashes, which I can't understand why I would
want to avoid, particularly when the actions of the interface clearly support it. So, from a UI design perspective I have to ask, if this is a valid task for an Excel spreadsheet why is it not for a Project spreadsheet?
Please bear in mind that the issue here is not related to the effective use of the product, but quite plainly why doesn't this stuff work out of the box on a simple paste operation?
By "Adding", in my previous comments, I mean go to the "Project" ribbon, and select the "Subproject" button. Following is a very detailed set of steps.
1. Open Microsoft Project 2010 Professional, in either 64 bit or 32 bit mode.
2. About Microsoft Project displays (14.0.4751.1000) MSO (14.0.4760.1000), by going to the quick access tool bar, selecting "Customize quick access tool bar", selecting "More commands", selecting from the pull-down "Choose commands
from" the option "All commands", and then the "About" option in the list view right below it. Press the "Add" button in the middle of the form. Press the OK button. You will see the about button on the quick access bar. Press
the button to see what version of the software this is. If you need additional information to help troubleshoot the issue, please let me know.
3. On the currently open default blank project, first save the project by pressing the save button on the quick access tool bar. I've named this file "Project1.mpp", and the physical file location is the Documents folder on Windows 7. The task
name becomes "Task 1". I then click outside the row.
4. Select the entire row by clicking on the number column to the left of the spreadsheet. Press the "C" key while holding down the "Control" key. Now select the next row and press the "V" key, while holding down the "Control"
key. Do it again if it makes you feel better.
5. Press Ctrl-S to save. Now close the project by clicking on the "File" menu and selecting the close button.
6. Create a new Project file, by selecting "File", then "New", then "Blank project", then "Create". Repeat steps 3 through 5 but this time name the project "Project2.mpp"
7. Click on an empty row on the spreadsheet. This will serve as the placement location of the sub-project. Click on the project tab, Click on the "Subproject" button on the left of the ribbon and select Project1.mpp. Your original Project1
will appear as a sub-project. Select a row in this subproject and copy and paste this row onto the previous project. Everything should work fine and your rows should paste.
8. Now try pasting onto the same subproject on the row below. The application crashes.

Project 2010 Crashes

Hi,
I've been having this issue to export to PDF from Project 2010 (Std Ed - 32 bit). It just hangs and no response for ever (not responding mode)
I searched for fixes, but no luck so far and i also contacted vendor who purchased the software for our company and he does not seem to answer it. Lost all my hope and i run to people when ever i need to export to PDF version.
As i last resort, i'm here..could someone suggest how to fix this? Do i've to install any Service pack?

First of all, if not done, I'd suggest you to install the
SP2. Then try to repair Project from the control panel. Finally, does it happen for all projects, or just specific project(s)?

Ms project 2010 is crashing again and again due to different activities .

Many Ms project users of our company facing below issue:
We also have service pack 1 installed as well as Cummulative Update (14.0.6137.5000).
When they change the date of any task or enter new task. Ms Project 2010 is crashed or any other activity. e.t.c
Wheather Ms Project is connected with Project Server or we are doing locally and open new project.
Is this microsoft bug or what is the solution of this .

In addition to Dale's advice on SP2, try following steps
Close Project Pro
Navigate to following path and rename existing Global.Mpt file
C:\Users\{User ID}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MS Project\14\1033
Re-launch Project pro to validate the behavior.

Any Problem Running Office 2010 SP2 with Project Server 2010 SP1?

We are running Project Server 2010 SP1 April 2013 CU and the desktop clients have now been upgraded to SP2 October 13 CU. We are having issues with projects in local cache showing as checked out when they are not actually checked out on the server. I was
wondering if it is problematic to run the desktop client on a newer service pack than the server and if it could cause this type of issue?

The answer is YES, you'll probably have some issues.
I would recommend:
Downgrade clients to match Server's version
Upgrade Server to SP2+October '13 CU
And my preferred:
Upgrade Server and clients to SP2 + '14 April CU

OneNote 2010 SP1 (from Pro Plus 32bit MAK Volume Download) Activation Issue

I have been working on Microsoft Office App-V Sequencing and have successfully managed to sequence both Project Pro 2010 SP1 and Visio Pro 2010 SP1.
We have had an external company handle the sequencing for the main Office Pro Plus 2010, however they have since informed us that it didn't include either OneNote or Office Picture Manager.
I have been working on trying to sequence OneNote 2010 out of the Office Professional Plus 32 bit 2010 SP1 MAK Volume Download following the steps in the Microsoft Guide as well as StealthPuppys' guide. Basically:
1) Extract the iso to a folder
2) Install the Microsoft Sequencing Kit on the sequencing machine
3) Install both x64 and x86 App-V Deployment Kits
4) Go to the x64 (64 bit sequencing machine) through command prompt and do the 'msiexec /i OffVirt.msi ADDLOCAL=OSpp,OSpp_Core,OSppWoW64 PIDKEYS=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX USEROPERATIONS=1'
5) Start the sequencer, add the Exclusion items for the Office Software Protection Plan and Windows
6) Carry out a custom install selecting only OneNote and the Office Shared Files to install
7) Finish the sequence and copy the programs to the shared drive
8) Deploy the application
9) On the target machine which has the Deployment kit added command prompt to the folder and run ''msiexec /i OffVirt.msi ADDLOCAL=OSpp,OSpp_Core,OSppWoW64 PIDKEYS=(Project MAK);(Visio MAK);(Office MAK) USEROPERATIONS=1'
10) Download the packages through the App-V Tool
OneNote launches but then freezes saying 'Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 cannot verify the licence for this product. You should repair the Office program by using Control Panel' and the program force closes.
I have also tried using a custom config.xml to during the sequencer (which I did for both Visio and Project) with the first line set to <Configuration Product="ProPlus"> and also tried "OneNote" and at the installer section
used an elevated command prompt to navigate to the office folder and run 'setup.exe/config c:\office\config.xml' and this also did not work.
This and Office Picture Manager are the last of the App-V programs left to sequence for deployment in a new SOE for a client so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Global Templates Corrupted in Project 2010

Has anyone had an issue with project templates, associated with EPT's, causing Project Pro 2010 to crash whenever the drop-down selection on a column (field) is chosen?
I am running Project Server/Pro 2010 SP1 patched to Oct 2012.
I have 3 templates that are similar (small, medium, large). The medium and large when opened as templates were fine, so I simply saved them back and they are working fine. The small one was corrupted whenever the column drop-down was clicked.
I opened another version of the small template from my lab system (same content as production) and saved it to production and all is good. I am at a loss to figure what happened prior to this exercise. I saved a copy of the corrupted small template and
the corrupted projects for further examination. Any ideas? The fix for the projects with the corrupted template requires saving all the PWA and Project Site information, deleting the project and its associated site and starting over from scratch.
Those with actual hours will take even longer. What a mess.
Update 4/29/14 -
Regarding the corrupted template and project files that occurred recently, Microsoft has stated that this behavior is fixed after installing the April 2014 CU.
I will verify this when the April CU is applied to the test machine in our lab.
The cause of the crashing was related to a null setting in the filter-by and group-by settings. A null is not a setting that can be selected, so I am unclear as to how it got that way in the template.
There is no answer as to why the selections are null and it cannot be corrected.
This is a bug.

I am painfully aware of the fix to the corruption. I have removed all the corrupted templates and replaced them with non-corrupted ones. I am now working to fix 32 projects that have the corrupted template. Some of these 32 have actual
hours posted making the task even more time consuming.
No I did not initiate a ticket with Microsoft. My experience after working through several bug tickets with them it is that it takes a lot of effort to provide them what they need (problem description, creating compressed copies of all 4 databases,
uploading, fielding calls from the support techs, then dealilng with the folks they hand off to, then getting acknowledgement that it is a bug and will be addressed by the development team and placed in a private fix or CU in an upcoming cycle). In the
meantime, I have projects to fix! I realize that we are not up-to-date on CU's and SP's. I am working on that now.
