Project 2013 and Managing StakeHolders

Is there a way for MS Project 2013 to:
List all Stakeholders on a project
List those stakeholders contact info (or link to Active Directory for email and phone if internal)
Assign stakeholders to tasks or milestones.
I know "resources" can be inventoried, but I'm distinguishing them from stakeholders who you would need to report to that don't perform any actual work (ex: C-level, other managers, etc.)
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

I do not get the impression that you are using Project Server 2013, but are only using the Microsoft Project 2013 desktop application.  If that is true, I believe you have another option.  What I would do is to create a custom Resource field that
indicates whether a resource is primarily a team member or primarily a stakeholder.  Here is how to do that:
Open a project and apply the Resource Sheet view.
Click Project > Custom Fields.
In the Custom Fields dialog, select the first available resource Text field, such as Text1 for example.
Click the Rename button.
In the Rename Field dialog, enter a friendly name like Resource Type, and then click the OK button.
In the Custom Attributes section of the dialog, click the Lookup button.
In the Edit lookup table dialog, enter three values: Team Member, Stakeholder, and Both.
Click the Close button and then click the OK button.
In the Resource Sheet view, right-click on the Type column header and select the Insert Column item on the shortcut menu.
In the list of available resource columns, select the name of the new field you just created, such as Resource Type if you used that name.
In the new Resource Type column, click the pick list for each resource and select whether they are a Team Member, a Stakeholder, or Both.
This will now allow you to see who is a team member, who is a stakeholder, and who is a stakeholder who also functions as a team member.  In addition, if a stakeholder is a team member, you might want to specify a Standard Rate for that resource.
Just an additional thought.  Hope this helps.

The Acrobat 9.x product family passed into "End of Support" mid-year of 2013.
Acrobat 9 support of MS Project via PDFMaker stops with Office 2007.
For Office 2013 support you must use Acrobat XI (11.0.1) or newer.

  • Labview project organization and management

I am looking for advice/resources for organizing and managing moderate to large applications in labview. I have created an application with over 100 vi's and want to ensure the easiest management and maintenance of the code for the future. Does anyone have opinions on vi libraries, folder use or other methods for keeping projects manageable as the size grows. Most of my past applications were less than half of this size so code control was easy and I could be more sloppy. I have kept good practice in regards to coding and reuse in labview but have not found many articles or software management for labview. I am looking to make the transition from the lab to more commercial products. I have 8 years of extensive self-taught labview experience (10+ years or general programming c/c++ ...) so I am familiar with coding techniques but have not seen too many software engineering and architecture techniques applied to thsi language. Any resources would be greatly appreciated.

We are the ones representing the "one with experience" for most of the new developers. As to organizing/structuring a project, I usually have created a directory for each of my projects, with sub-dirs based on major program functional blocks (i.e. User Interface, Initialization, Instruments, DAQ, etc.) containing the code specific to those functional blocks, usually with a sub-dir containing the type def'd controls for that function. Once I've passed a certain arbitray chosen point in the development process, which usually is determined by the complexity of the code to that point, I start making a copy of the master directory every morning, renaming it with a date code or to a newer version ltr/number than the previous day's and do my work in that, giving me a "revert" path. On some projects, at some customers, I have used SourceSafe, or other configuration management programs, but much of the time I am the only developer, so it isn't _as_ necessary. I have had mixed results with the various CM programs, they weren't developed to work with a graphical language like LabVIEW, so a lot of the tools won't work. There have been a few threads devoted to the problems and solutions that others have implemented in multideveloper environments, so a search should turn up some info. The biggest CM issue that I have been running into is the addition of "stuff" (utilities, new instruments, etc.) to the developers local LabVIEW palettes. It is one thing to be "checking out" pieces of the project's code, but it becomes problematic if there are things unique to the developers individual environment vs. things that are in the project's folder. You go to load some code and it can't find the version of the HP666A that "Bob" has in his instrument palette.
    Good luck,

  • Project 2013 APP-V Plugin

    Hi,
I have a Project 2013 APP-V package created and published successfully. Now I have a requirement from user to add a plugin for Project 2013.
I don't want to make this plugin to be available to all users. Any solutions?
I thought of creating a connection group for the individual project 2013 which is already published to this add in but I think I am confusing app-v here and it installs and uninstalls simultaneously.
Is there any possibility to create a connection group with the same package which is published individually?
    Regards,
    Chetan.T.V

What version of App-V do you use? If 5.0 SP3, then take advantage of a new feature - having optional packages in a connection group. Create a connection group that contains your existing Project 2013 package and add the add-on package (if you haven't created
a package yet, do that) as an optional package. Publish Project 2013 and the connection group to everyone that should get it and publish the add-on package only to the users who need it. That should work.

  • Project 2013 free trial setup.exe module doesn't work

    Hi there,
I installed the Project 2013 free trial and it opened with 7zip, but now the issue is the setup.exe.  When I click on it, I get an error message "The specified module could not be found".  What do I do from here?

    Hi There,
There might be some wrong file association or a module missing. I would suggest you to uninstall both Project 2013 free trial and 7zip and then first install Project 2013 and check if it works.
Once you are sure that Project 2013 trial works, you can install 7zip.
    Happy troubleshooting...

  • Visio and Project 2013 silent install returns immediately (before install is finished)

    Hi,
I am building a task sequence that will include Office 2010 ProPlus (volume license), a bunch of other products (like SQL Server and Visual Studio) and also Visio 2013 and Project 2013.
For Visio 2013 and Project 2013, I have to use the retail media (this is for use in academic computer labs and we have a single retail key through DreamSpark Premium that allows unlimited activations - I don't know why DreamSpark doesn't just give a volume
    license key).
I managed to get Visio 2013 and Project 2013 to install silently by modifying the config.xml file and using the /config parameter. However, when running my install script (the usual VBScript wrapper) or just from the command line, the command returns before
setup finishes (literally within less than a second). Setup continues to run and finishes successfully, but as you can imagine, MDT considers that application install finished and tries to move on to the next application which fails because another installation
    is still in progress.
I've included below the relevant portion of the VBScript wrapper. Any help in figuring out how to get the wrapper to wait for the installer to finish is appreciated.
    sSetupFile = oUtility.ScriptDir & "\Source\setup.exe"
    sArguments = "/config vispror.ww\config.xml"
    oLogging.CreateEntry oUtility.ScriptName & ": Starting installation", LogTypeInfo
// Check for existence of setup file omitted
    iRetVal = oUtility.RunWithHeartbeat("""" & sSetupFile & """ " & sArguments)
Coincidentally, iRetVal = 0 indicating success.
    Thanks,
    SA

    Hi SA,
Obviously you use the VBS wrapper for some reason. To my understanding this behaviour needs to be captured and translated to "script is till busy, when installation completes script is finished, proceed to next step".
I can only advise you to either try the command line directly in MDT, instead of using the VBS wrapper, and/or try to create an MSP and try this in your VBS wrapper, command line directly in MDT.
MSP files are easily created by going into command prompt to the sources folder of Visio / Project and execute the following command: setup.exe /admin this will start the Office Customization Tool which enables you to create an MSP file.
When you are ready, execute the following command to install the application with the settings in the MSP: setup.exe /adminfile custom.msp
Again I can imagine the purpose of the VBS just as I can imagine the purpose of using the config.xml above a custom.msp. But for starters this should get you going to try to find an resolve where the issue lies. In the VBS or somewhere else.
    Cheers!

  • App-V 5.0: Adding Visio 2013 and Project 2013 to a previously deployed virtual Office 2013

    Good morning.
I can successfully deploy Office 2013 via PowerShell and App-V v5.0 without difficulty.  I've read the document at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2915745/en-us and followed all instructions successfully.
My question is this:  If Office 2013 without Visio 2013 or Project 2013 is virtually deployed, how can those components be added later?
For instance, we may have 100 users that acquire a virtualized Office 2013 without Project or Visio.  We then may have 25 users that require a virtualized Office and Visio without Project and, perhaps, another 15 that require Office and Project without
    Visio.
Currently, when I attempt a second virtual deployment of one of these components, it removes Office 2013 making it inaccessible.
How can Project and/or Visio be deployed to an already existing virtually deployed Office 2013?
    Thanks very much.
    John

As a part of MDOP, you'll also have access to UE-V which will provide a mechanism of moving user preferences across the same applications from difference packages.
It will require planning, configuration and deployment, but will ensure you don't face the same issue in the future.

  • Project Pro 2013 and syncing with SharePoint Online 2013 (Office 365)

    Good day,
I am experiencing some challenges with a Project Pro master project file and syncing to SharePoint 2013 (Office 365).
    What works
Individual projects can be synced to SharePoint without issue. Once synced, the site start page presents the Project Summary gant, clicking the Tasks link takes me to the tasks. Project files are stored in the Site Assets directory in each SharePoint site
    (one site per project file).
    What doesn't work
When I create a new project (and sync it to a new site), then add two (2) existing project files that reside on SharePoint and then sync to the new master project site I
don't see any content in the Project Summary gant, nor do I see any tasks in the task list. I can't figure out if this is not supported or if I've done something wrong. There are no error messages or indicators that I've done something wrong,
short of the master project projects not showing up on the master project site (nothing in the project summary gant and no tasks).
Some help would be greatly appreciated. Being able to render a master project is crucial to understanding timelines for many projects in a single view.

    Steven,
This is by design. Inserted Sub projects will NOT show in the Master Project Tasks list. You will only see tasks inserted directly at the Master Project Level.
Moreover, if you set up a dependency between Master project Task and Subproject task, then the sync will not work. All in all, there are limitations for this process, which is where Project Online/Project Server needs to be considered.

  • SP2013 and Project 2013 - project files open in read-only mode with no options to edit only Save As

    Hi all,
    Environment:
    SharePoint 2013 (15.0.4420.1017)  RTM
    Windows 8 - Project 2013 (15.0.4433.1506) 32Bit
    Issue details:
When opening .mpp files stored within SharePoint they are opened successfully within Project 2013 however they are opened in Read-Only mode with no options to edit/check out only Save As.  The
same outcome is experienced if you click the document link within SharePoint or you chose to edit from the document menu.
Opening the file through windows explorer also opens only in read-only mode.
To date we’ve tested the following
    Windows 7 – Office 2010 = working as expected
    Windows 8 – Office 2010 = working as expected
Windows 7 – Office 2013 = opening as read only, no prompt to edit
Windows 8 – Office 2013 – opening as read only, no prompt to edit
Current thinking is that it is an issue with either the SharePoint Office Documents Class ActiveX control or Project 2013 itself interacting with SharePoint 2013.
We have tested this in multiple SP2013 environments with the same outcomes.
The workaround therefore is to save locally and then upload again which is not ideal.
Unable to find an exact issue match to this.
    Any help with this appreciated.

    Hi Dan,
For us after investigating this further it was found that using the document menu to edit or checkout and then edit results in the project file being opened in read-only mode.
The same issue was present for Visio files.
Using the FILES ribbon menu results in the document being opened in edit mode successfully in both Project and Visio.
Please note that we found that this issue only exists within document libraries where checkout is required to edit which was our case.  If checkout is not required the document
menu can also be used as expected.
    Cheers,
    Dan

  • Project Server and Project Pro 2013 - Tasks not allowing Uncomplete Work to be rescheduled

We are current;y running Project Server 2013 on Premise and using timesheets to update task status. We are using the proactive task scheduling to let the allocations, work and dependencies drive the schedule to get accurate project finish dates.
We have several projects that give an error stating "Change would modify work entered by a team member" and "We can't make that change because Project Web App is set to only allow actual work to be entered by a team member through Timesheets
or My Work" when setting the status date and Updating the Project and selecting reschedule Uncompleted Work to start after the status date. We have determined that usually it is only a single task causing the error. we have tried to remove the resource
when no actuals have been entered but we get the same issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Paul,
Looks like the settings "Only allow task updates via Tasks and Timesheets" has been enabled on your PWA (under Server Settings >> Task Settings and Display).
But the setting is used to prevent any updates to actual work from project pro, and will throw the error  you mention above, if a PM tries to update the actual work.
I am not sure why the "Rescheduling of uncompleted work" would thrw this error, but worth checking that setting.

  • MS Project 2013 Trial Download not visible in installed programs and thus can't open

I've consulted other posts however answer is not listed.  I have followed the instructions to download the file.  I've downloaded the 64-bit file and selected Open application on download however nothing happens.  I've gone to my Control Panel
and Project 2013 is NOT listed.  I've searched for Project 2013 in the start up menu to no avail.
Can anyone advise how I can get the software installed on my laptop?  The fact it states the application has downloaded but it's not visible as a downloaded file is driving me crazy.
    Please help
    Marisa

    Hello Marisa,
When you download the trial, it downloads the image file by name ProjectProfessional_x64_en-us.img
Do you see this file under your download folder? If yes, then you have downloaded the trial software successfully.
As a next step, you need to extract .img into a directory using any tools that unzip the .img format (e.g., 7-zip
http://www.7-zip.org/ ) and then install from it by running setup.exe.
    Hope this helps.
    Thank you,
