Project Management - Summarize Function

Hi, All!
I have been studying the integration process between P6 and EBS Projects and notice that we have to run the Summarize before execute the integration process from P6 to EBS.
But, I did not conclude why I need to run this summarize because it was not possible to see any results after running this process on the activity or EPS columns. And why I would need to run this summarization out of the integration scope.
So, Could anyone give any example on using this summarize function? Why is it needed/helpful?
Menu Option: Tools -> Summarize
Thanks in advance.

"EBS Projects" stands for Oracle Enterprise Business Suite, module Projects.
This Oracle ERP solution that has an integration solution with Primavera Project Management P6.
Is there anyone who uses the Summarizer in order to keep the ETC and EAC updated and published to the team involved on the project? Besides the interface functionality, would you have any other situation where the summarizer is helpful?

  • Project management utility

    Hello!
Does exist the way to unload MII projects automatically? I have dozens projects and need to unload it to external or network drive periodically. Now I do it manualy for each project via Project management export function.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You can use the SAP MII backuper utility developed by Abesh available in the following link :

  • Project Manager - Loading Time

I think I mentioned the following issue before on the forum, but it's driving me nuts and I just want to know if can get some updates.
    "Here is the deal"
    1) You set up your scan path for the Project Manager and let it index all the relevant files
    2) Project Manager writes the index data to the "~/Library/Preferences/Logic/PM Data/LogicProject7" file. The more files you index, the bigger the "LogicProject7" file.
    3) Logic also writes an invisible file called "Logic 7 Database" to the root level of all network volumes it is indexing
    3) When you start Project Manager, it seems to read those files and updates them when you work in Logic.
    "Here is my problem"
I have a fairly big amount of data siting on an XserveRAID (Logic Songs, Loops, EXS, Audio files, ...). I don't know the exact size, because I exclude some of the nested directories and try to index only the relevant files. I guess the total is getting close to 1TB.
The Project Managers index file "LogicProject7" is now 127 MB and the launch time just for the Project Manager is 7 minutes . That makes it impossible to use the "start Project Manager at startup" feature. As we all know, Logic still crashes once in a while and adding the 7 minutes to the already long launch time (reading the EXS instruments), I would end up with close to 15 minutes launch time.
I don't understand where the bottleneck is. The progression bars of the Project Manager during startup (building tress, etc) are crawling like a snail despite a G5 dual 2.5GHz and a Gigabit connection to the Server that is connected with a dual Fibre Channel to the RAID.
The Activity Monitor shows Logic with a 30% CPU utilization and the network shows the activity with 60kB receiving and 30kB sending which is more or less constant during the startup process. Is the reason for that, because Logic is not optimized to use the full bandwidth and CPU power.
    "Here is my question"
    1) Does anybody have more insight into the Project Manager's functionality in regards to speed.
    2) Can you post your reference: "LogicProject7" file size vs Project Manager startup time
    Thanks

First of all - iSchwartz - you are not only okay, but also one of the most friendly and in depth advisers here on many subjects.
Now stop biting your nails - please! What are you gonna do with all that excess calcium?
You are indeed blissfully unaware of the benefits of this often overlooked PM thing (TG it's not a PMS thing...). If you are happy with EXS loading times, are never asked for multiple choices regarding the location of a sample, and your system runs stable, then don't change anything.
Es wird Dich nicht eines Tages in den A.... beissen!
Check your EXS loading times. Mine improved dramatically. Admittingly I have to confess, that my PM is overseeing, tracking and updating a little less then Edgar's, about 800 GB.
P.S.: Would you mind posting a picture of you in the newbie beanie?

  • Attribute Functions in Oracle Project Management Setup

I have been trying to find the functionality and applicability of the menu option " Attribute Functions" that is available in Oracle Project Management Setup.
I have used attribute groups and context to create view / placeholders to capture additional information related to the project, but have not been able to figure out the applicability of Attribute Functions.
Please help me if anyone has used it or know how to use it.

    Hi,
Refer Oracle Project Management User Guide. (Section 2: Workplan and Progress Management)
Oracle Projects archives all submitted task and workplan progress. You can correct
submitted progress records and create backdated progress records.
    Backdating Progress
    ============
You can create backdated progress records to fill gaps in the progress history of a task
or project. You can select any non-cycle progress date prior to the system date and enter
    progress for this past date.
For example, you can enter backdated progress for a Friday in the past even if a project
has a progress cycle with Monday as the reporting day.
You enter an As of Date, progress status, a brief overview, comments, and physical
percent complete when you enter backdated progress.
Backdated progress transactions are for informational purposes

  • Error in Interfacing Project Invoices to AR - No Active Project Manager

I am getting an error while transferring a projects invoice to AR.
I am running concurrent program 'PRC: Interface Invoices to Receivables' program from a responsibility that was created as per the client project security requirements.
The output  gives an error message - 'No Active Project Manager Found'.
    Note:
    - The project manager is active on the project.
    - The person record of the project manager is active with an active HR assignment.
    - The project manager role is not end dated.
When I run this same program from the standard Project Implementation Super User responsibility for the same project, the invoice gets interfaced to Receivables without any error.
    Why does this happen ?
Is this concurrent program dependent on any menu / function / profile option ? If so, which one ?

Thanks very much for taking the time to post the info Florian. I will update this thread as well if I run into any new information.
Do we have any idea on SAP's direction for Product Definition? PD is still version 2.0 and I heard that PD functionality will be incorporated into PPM 5.0 which does make a lot of sense. I very briefly went through the notes and config doc in this post and did not get the impression that PPM has any idea and concept management capabilities.

  • Integration with Third Party Project Management Software

My company is looking for software that can be "bolted on" to Oracle Projects to provide more robust project managment functionality. We already know of two (Microsoft Project and Primavera), but we'd like to hear from other companies who may have implemented other solutions.

I've been involved on 2 projects that included integration into Projects. On both occasions Oracle's Activity Management Gateway (AMG) was used. AMG is the open interface for Projects. We used it on one occasion with Primavera Expedition to load budgets and the WBS and on another with MS Excel to upload budget information. ODBC and AMG was used on the MS Excel project.

  • Project Manager: How to include the Trash as an Exclude Path

I'm delving deep into the wonders of the Project Manager. Wondering if there's any way to add the Trash (on any drive) as an "exclude path" so that I can prevent the PM from going 'dumpster diving' for files in there.
While on the subject of trash (OT) I really miss the OS9 trash scheme where you had an actual desktop icon for the trash. Also, when you'd open the trash in OS9 to see what was in there, a tally of the total MB/GB of trashed files would be displayed in the finder window. But not in OSX (why?!?!). Anyway, does anyone know how to achieve either a desktop icon and/or a file-size count of trashed items in OSX?
    Thanks, and Happy New Year!

    Surrrrrrre Dahlin'.
Somebody in this forum said, it's the time of Red Red Wine.
I am following this advice. Wait, is that party over already?
Truly, the PM being as powerful of a tool it is, sometimes needs our (human) input to get it back in shape. Even the PM preferences DO GET STALE over time.
One SI after another started to load really slow over here. Sometimes I even had multiple choices from where to take the samples from. Now I know, that I have some duplicates with all my drives attached, but PM designs a structure regarding where to look first. So, I re-scanned those folders concerned. Sure enough, no more "duplicates" messages and loading time was great again. Except for files I did not access since a long time, or files I never loaded.
Yes, I trashed my PM preferences (user/library/preferences/Logic PMData).
Did go to Window > Project Manager > Functions > Expanded Scan, with all my drives attached.
    Then I went to bed.
The next morning, I saved the PM data, quit LP, restarted my computer and... voilá: EXS loading times are up to speed again.
All under the influence of Red Red Wine.
    It works well.
    Summary:
Set up as explained above, go to sleep and be amazed about the power of the PM.
    No punishment involved.
    Tschüß.

  • Project Management and Financial Management

    Hello,
Our Federal client uses WBS for Inter-Agency Agreements, They use a simple structure to collect costs and define budget availability at the WBS level.  They also have a need for a Project Management tool, with milestones, resource tracking, etc.  However, this would not easily integrate into the way that they use WBS for financial purposes due to the structure that the business needs have for a higher level Project Management approach.  The WBS currently represent individual agreements, whereas the Project Management function would span many agreements.  The agency would not like to move away from the current financial structure.
What I'm wondering is if there is a way to either forward or somehow statistically shadow the WBS that are used for financial purposes into a parallel Projects setup.  Is that possible?  I know that you can have a cost center and statistical WBS, but don't know if there's a way to do it with two Projects structures.  Please let me know your thoughts / suggestions.
    Best regards,
    Tony

    hello Tony,
What I can say. Maybe you should use SAP PPM as a operational Project Management tool and integrate it with WBS elements and projects in SAP PS. Probably it will be the best solution for you.
The second way is to use a second project structure for project management as you wrote, with different number of this project. So you will have 2 structures one for actual posting of costs and the second for rest management needs and statistical posting of costs. Probably you will need CO substitution for posting of costs to post costs on these 2 structures.
There will be many other conditions to get right solution but I think this 2 ways are possible.

  • Project management in SAP Solution Manager (SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN and RMMAIN)

Please help me to understand this better u2013 whether this is a gap in the functionality of the SolMan, whether I expect too much, whether it is expected to work in a different way.
In transaction SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN one can create a project.
In transaction RMMAIN one can create a roadmap u2013 this is a more or less detailed project plan that can even be exported to MS Project. Via RMDEF and RMAUTH it is possible to create a custom specific roadmap. This specific roadmap can then be assigned via SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN and RMMAIN to the newly created project.
However, it is not possible to modify the roadmap once assigned in SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN and created in RMMAIN.
This means, as a consequence, that it is not possible to use the Solution Manager as the one and only project management tool.
To specify this further. Usually, in a project, once you have created the roadmap and the overall framework you add all the detailed steps, and all single tasks that are required. As this is not possible in SolMan one needs to use other tools (MS Project) for this. But on the other side the SolMan project plan and roadmap has to be updated frequently to be able to keep track of the progress. So this ends in double work. Manual effort is required to keep this consistent. And it also hardly makes sense to create a new roadmap just to add these small details. With all this in mind itu2019s hard to convince our customers that the SolMan is really a that big benefit for implementation or upgrade projects.
    - have I overseen something?
    - has SAP designed this in a different way?
    - or does SAP oversee this need?
    Many thanks & best regards,
    Peter Müller

    Hi
    1) Is deleting older documents is definitely going to improve response time of searching. You said 'yes' but just wanted to double sure.
    Yes
    2) This program deletes all unsed and de-linked document. I can understand 'De-linked' but not 'Unused'
    i meant the samething
    3) Deleting documents based on user id is big problem. We have almost 800 Users in SolMan, who has used this project form last 5+ years. So all these 800 users have to go into multiple selection of user id
    Try giving *
    4) I tried this on our sandbox (SP19 Level) which has shown all unused documents which can be deleted. But this deletion has to be done one-by-one. In our production, if we have 10K+ documents, i assume almost thousand or more will be residing as de-linked in KW
    Try giving *
    5) Any Documentation available on this program.
Learnt by experience but you can check some sapnotes below
Note 1124579 - Using SOLMAN_UNUSED_DOCUMENTS to delete unused documents
Note 1377997 - SOLMAN_UNUSED_DOCUMENTS: No deletion conf. for each doc.
    Hope above clarifies

  • Project Management in J2EE-Development

Hi all, unfortunatley there is no forum for project management issues, so maybe I will bother some of you with non-technical questions:
Is there any learning material e.g. books, forums, newsgroups, tutorials related to the topic of project managment in J2EE-Development? I'm particularly interessted in questions like:
    - Team organisation. Function-oriented or component-oriented?
    - Development Process. Is there anything like a RUP customised for J2EE-Projects? Mandatory roles and artifacts you need in any project?
    - Effort estimations. Has anyone ever heard about experiences with formal estimation technics like function point analysis in J2EE-Projects?
    - Risk Management. What are the typical risks in J2EE-Projects and how do you manage them?
    - Quality Assurance... is very difficult in distributed computing. Are there any recomendations and tools for successfull QA?
    - Reports, lessons leard and best practices of large J2EE-Projects?
    Many thanks for your contribution!

    ad information resources :
    http://java.sun.com/j2ee/tutorial/1_3-fcs/index.html
    ad books :
Enterprise Java Beans from Richard Monson-Haefel
Those should be decent entry points as far as I can say. Regarding the other things you want to know about, I guess that there is too much room in the term J2EE Project, to answer those. Mainly your choice of Application Server and other technology used will have quite an impact, and so will the choice of your development tools.
We have been developing with J2EE for more than a year now, but our tools and environments are still changing a lot. Thus sound estimation is quite tough.

  • Is there good project management options for OS X server?

We are a small (3 person) shop and want to host our own project management solution. We would love to share project info and assign tasks etc... Does anyone do thin on their own server? We have used Manymoon and now Do.com.

There are a few options for self hosted project management you can consider, but most are considerably more complicated to use than either Do or Manymoon.  Here are some examples of things you can look at, in order of declining 'project management' competence.  For each item there are others available I've not mentioned, but if you search for any of these you'll soon find the alternatives via Google.  So, have a look at:
    * Merlin - A full featured project management package a bit like MS Project, but runs native on OS X and has pretty functional iThing clients too (though they don't yet support iOS7...).  Quite expensive - but each client has the ability to share projects across a LAN (or WAN), so you can do stuff without buying the server app (which is very expensive).  Steep learning curve for app.  http://www.projectwizards.net/en/
    * ActiveCollab - a self-hosted php based groupware portal system.  Originally started as an open source competitor / complement of the earliest forms of Basecamp, it has long ago evolved into its own thing but filling broadly the same space.  Requires an Apache2/MySQL/PHP installation to run, and allows the sharing of information about projects, along with a fairly complex project management capability.  All the pros / cons of web based service apply.  Much easier to learn to use, and deploy than Merlin.  https://www.activecollab.com
    * Studiometry - a different take on the problem, this is an attempt at a whole-business management app for small firms, covering everything from sales pipeline tracking through to simple CRM and invoice management.  Has the ability to share files related to projects, and allocate / track tasks within a group.  Has clients for OS X, Windows and iOS.  As with Merlin, has network sharing abilities built into each client, so no need for a 'server' to make it work, but in practical terms you need an 'always on' copy to act as hub for an office.  http://oranged.net
    * BusyCal - a much simpler solution, but if you are looking to replace Do.com then it might be all you need.  Allows you to share calendar / task information on a LAN, and offers somewhat enhanced calendar functions to regular OS X.  http://www.busymac.com/busycal/

  • Basic flowcharting/project-management app?

As a small business owner, I'm discovering that lists are just not enough to help me track my deliverables, deadlines, and dependencies.
I'd love an app that graphically displays my short- and medium-term goals and sub-tasks  - basically a very scaled down version of MS Project.
The main contender I've found so far is Pagico - I'm trying out the free version.  Pagico's flowchart functionality, while much better than nothing, seems limited.  I don't think it manages dependencies, and it seems to look ahead only one month.
What other low end flowchart and project management apps exist for the Mac?  Surely there must be something between Pagico's $20 price point and the professional $150+  project management tools?
    Thanks.

If you happen to use Microsoft Office 2004, the Project Manager in Entourage is actually quite good. I started using it a few weeks ago.
There are a bunch of open source web based project managers that you could setup pretty easily on your system as well. That with the use of MAMP, you could easily setup something up for free in no time.
I did run across this this which was directed towards writers, when i was looking for some sort of project manager a few weeks ago.

  • HRMS Integration with third party Project Management Tool

    Hi All,
We have plans of procurring a third party Project Management Tool which needs to be integrated to existing Oracle Financials. Project Management Tool needs employee information for its functioning.
a)Is there any API available for this purpose which exposes HR data to any third party tool?
b)Can anyone suggest what should be the approach for such integration?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    SA

What 3rd party tool are you going to be using? You might get lucky and it might be something that Oracle has bought recently. Does this post mean you are using Oracle Projects? If so, you may want to post this question in that forum as well. At least you would limit the audience to projects oriented customers, so might get some better replies there than you will here. Food for thought.
