  • Best method for controlling Office 365 updates

Were looking for the best method for updating Office 365. We will be testing prior to releasing the version to the rest of the company.  We have a couple of methods we're contemplating but looking for any pros or cons for each.  We are also
    using SCCM 2012.
    1. Run setup.exe setting the version and internal install source in an .xml file run as an SCCM package using distribution points as the install source.
    2. Run click2runclient.exe with command lines setting the version and internal install source as an SCCM package using distribution points as the install source.
3  Set the version through group policy and turn on automatic updates and don't specify an install source.
Option 3 appears to be the most straight forward with the least administrative overhead.  Would it be possible to revert back to an earlier version using this method?
I have read various articles but looking for any input as to what is working well  or not working for others.

    Hi,
I would like to share this
blog post with you, which provides an example how to implement a fully automated testing and deployment process of Office 365 updates. This deployment method provides you the ability to test updates before you approve them in my environment.
    The process might look like:
Deploy Office 365 in your environment with Office Deployment Tool, configure the "Updates" element in the configuration.xml file so that updates are enabled and the "UpdatePath" attribute points to an internal source.
Download the latest Office 365 build into a different internal source, configure your test machine to pick up builds from it.
After testing the updates, copy the updates to the first internal source.
You should be able to integrate the process with SCCM to reduce your administrative effort.
    Hope this helps.

It's recommended to download and install
Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office
    programs.

  • Project Plan/Schedule for Project Pro and Project Server 2013 Install

Looking for a project plan/schedule for a dept. wide install of Project Pro and Project Server 2013. Anyone have one to share?

In Project Professional 2013 there are two templates:
Install Project Server 2013 and Upgrade to Project Server 2013.  You may search for either template.

  • Visual Studio Community 2013 on Windows 8.1 pro - how can I develop for Sharepoint (Office 365)?

    Hello everybody from Italy.
As stated on the subject, I'd like to develop some solutions for my Office 365's SharePoint site.
I'm absolutely new to Visual Studio usage, too :-)
I downloaded and installed VS Community 2013 and SharePoint 2013 SDK (along with ... but still no luck, VS keeps saying that I need to have SharePoint installed locally in order to develop solutions for SharePoint.
    What now?
    F. Simonetti - UNIX Sysadmin - Sharepoint learner

    Ok, I managed to:
remove the "somewhat offending" custom list (I'll add it later after realizing what I was doing wrong)
create one custom list without any specific feature (I called it List1)
create another list based on Contacts, kept absolutely default (called List2)
    build&deploy the app
Ok, now the "app" is there (on my devel environment), doing absolutely nothing (because I didn't create any form or page or whatever). But I have a Contact list! I should be able to sync it to Outlook desktop!
This page helped me to understand how I can reach the list created inside the app (https://devtenant.sharepoint.com/AppName/Lists/List2)
... but I had a bad surprise: no option to sync the Contact list with my Outlook desktop application. This remains true even after having activated the "Offline Synchronization for External Lists" feature inside Site Settings/Site Features menu.
So, the Contact-like list inside the app has lost about 80% of interest... not being able to sync it with Outlook is a severe limitation. I'm assuming that every list created inside an app will suffer of the same problem, is it true?
By the way, how I'm supposed, after having eventually finished my work on the app, to install it on the "real" work environment, that is completely unrelated to the development site (being the "work" site a mere "Business
    Premium" Subscription)?
I tried to deploy the app to the "non devel" site with no luck: VS says that the destination site is not configured for sideloading apps.
    Many thanks in advance, Ashish.

  • How to input MSDN Project Pro Product Key in Office 365 environment

    Hi, there
Our company just recently moved to Office 365 from Office 2013. I had to uninstall all my Office 2013 applications and re-install them from our Office 365 site. In addition to our common Office applications, I also had Project Pro 2013 installed with the
product key I obtained from my MSDN account. The Project Pro worked fine before the Office 365 transition. But after the transition, I keep getting this pop up asking me to sign in to Office 365. Since our company Office 365 suite does not provide Project,
I cannot use most of the function of my Project Pro, even though I have input my Product Key before.
Is there a way to separate out the Project Pro so it doesn't link to Office 365 Portal? Or is there a way to input my product key through Office 365 portal?
    Thanks.

You should be able to enter the Product Key for Project 2013.
    Navigate to the Control Panel.
    Select Programs
    Select Programs and Features.
Find Microsoft Project Professional in the list and single click to select it.
Click Change at the top of the list.
    Select Enter a Product Key.
    I hope this helps.

  • Looking for some Office 365 Hybrid Migration help

Basically I just need to talk this out with someone, as I'm not a pro with mail processing and setup, and just want to make sure I do the right setup, at the right time, to keep email downtime to an absolute minimum. Project: Move on-premise Exchange 2013 to a hybrid solution with O365, moving our full-time users to O365 and leave our part-time staff on internal server since they don't use email often and don't need the flexibility (nor our cost) of the license.
Initial setup:On-premise Exchange 2013, using the cloud product "Websense Perimeter Email Protection" that basically syncs to our AD and acts as a first-line-of-defense that only allows email to come through to accounts that are in our AD system. Current:All AD accounts synced to O365 using on-premise DirSync, and licenses purchased for the few accounts I'll test with for now....

  • Bulk-enabling users for the Office 365 Messaging Service

Is it possible to bulk-assign the Office 365 Messaging Service for Unity users after they are migrated to Office 365 from our on-premises Exchange environment instead of manually going into the Cisco Unity Connection Administration tool and performing these steps?
4.1) Edit the user account in the Cisco Unity Connection Administration
4.2) From the Edit drop-down menu, select Unified Messaging Accounts
    4.3) Click Add New
4.4) Select the Office 365 messaging service you created
4.5) Have it use the corporate email address unless it doesn't actually match the email address for the user on Office 365.
    4.6) Save
I am hoping something can be done with the Bulk Administration Tool.... :).

Yep its possible with BAT, i would export the users out. Modify the CSV to only reflect the users that you need, and make sure you have the 'serviceDisplayName' column populated and use the CSV to update it. The BAT column names can be found here: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/10x/administration/guide/10xcucsagx/10xcucsagappb.html

  • Project Online - offline project plan prompts for date range to be entered when accessing Resource Usage view

When I save a project plan to my local computer from Project Online and open it up in an offline mode and access Resource Usage view I get prompted with Date Range dialog boxes with the first one saying "Show resources/assignments that start or finish
after:" and the second one with "And before:".
I don't have any filters that are setup in Project Online that are not available in offline mode to trigger these prompts.
Please let me know what could be causing the date range prompts. Thanks.

    Hi,
You probably retrieve an enterprise filter into your local file. Just open the organizer from MS Project, go to the filter tab (be sure to have your project selected in the drop down menu at the top left of right of the organizer) and delete the date range
    filter.

  • Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Addin for Microsoft Office 365 does not work. When I check the cox for COM Add-ins, it unchecks it. "A runtime error occurred during the loading of the COM Add-in." I use Adobe X Professional. The Add-in worked fine in Office 2

I recently upgraded to Microsoft 365 Home and use Outlook 2013. The Acrobat PDFMaker Addin worked fine in Office 2010. Now, I get an error message: Not loaded. A runtime error occurred during the loading of the COM Add-in.
I use Adobe Acrobat X Professional.
I have restarted Outlook, restarted my computer, and nothing changes.
    Does anyone have a solution?
    Steve

I do not think that AA X is compatible with the newest versions of OFFICE and such. Your only choice is to print to the Adobe PDF printer or use the MS plugins to create PDFs.

  • Best Approach for Sharepoint/Office 365 Solution?

    Hello there,
I have been asked to develop a new solution involving SharePoint Online. I know a bit about SharePoint but have not done any development with it as of yet. I need to understand the best approach to take (e.g. WebPart, Separate Web Application, something
    else?)
In my opinion, the "application" needs are a bit complex. the solution must be hosted in the Cloud (most likely on Azure or within SharePoint if possible)
It needs to meet the following objectives:
Consume data from a SQL Server database (proprietary, no api available), on premises
    Manipulate/Read SharePoint Lists
    Launch Workflows
Provide seamless authentication (Users log into the SharePoint online service, must not have to log into a separate app)
Support additional database functionality (e.g. I will have my own tables, sps in SQL, that will be needed) and a UI for users to interact with the custom tables.
Some concerns I have from reading articles is that some functionality is restricted using the SharePoint online platform.
Any input on a viable approach would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
    Cory

You will want to implement a provider hosted app. A provider hosted app gives you the ability to host your app on a trusted server where you can have your own database. You can also communicate back into SharePoint using CSOM to manipulate lists and launch
workflows. The authentication will flow through from SharePoint Online to your app using OAuth authentication. Some links to help you below:

  • Project planning estimate for OID installation?

Will someone please help me estimate resource hours required to install OID for a customer website with 100k registered users and peak of 100 concurrent users? We’re not sure if we’ll go with an active-active or active-passive design, so estimates for both configurations is appreciated. A range of optimistic, probable and pessimistic estimates is also appreciated. THANK YOU!

    Hello,
Project Server will need to be installed on ALL the SharePoint servers in the farm not just the 2 servers you have for Project Server (assuming these 2 Project Server server are part of the same 10 server farm). The Project Server Application service doesn't
have to run on all servers but the binaries / files need to exist on all.

  • Ability to view last time Visio/Project was last used on Office 365

I want to be able to view the last time a user used Visio/Project. So that after 60 days or so I can disable their license. If anyone could help that would be great.

To my knowledge there is no feature which offers this.
You could ask in the dedicated O365 forums, where the hosted/cloud aspects are more commonly discussed:

  • Removing ADFS (used for an Office 365 test)

There isn't a whole lot of info out there about removing ADFS.
My initial thoughts were that it would be easy enough just to remove it, but it seems that you have to run Convert-MsolDomainToStandard and this for some reason resets your users' passwords. Have I got that right?
    Ridiculous if true.
So our situations is we have a test Office365/ADFS system in a subdomain presently. We're consolidating AD to the root domain and then installing ADFS/O365 in anger with that domain.
I'm thinking we can get away with leaving the current O365/ADFS in place and just migrating the users out of there, then decommissioning ADFS at our leisure. Also, at any point we can configure the new tenancy in the root domain.
Am I missing anything or am I incorrect anywhere?
    Many thanks,
    F.

Can you clarify a few of things first?
What do you mean by consolidating AD? Do you have a multi-domain based AD forest that you are reducing down to just the root? Are you migrating the users intra-forest (within forest) to the root such that the objectguid for each user doesn't change?
Are you going to reinstall AD FS on new servers in root or re-configure AD FS using existing servers when they are in root domain?
What OS is AD FS running on?
If you are migrating users within the forest, the objectguid wont change. Which means immutableID in Azure AD will remain as is. AD FS as it exists can authenticate the users throughout. Then you can build a parallel install of AD FS in the root domain
and run update-msolfederateddomain against your existing federated domain to update the AD FS details currently known to O365. At this point you can decommission previous AD FS at your leisure.

  • Power shell to restore recoverable items for multiple office 365 users

    Dear Friends,
I would like your help to see the possibilities of recovering all the deleted items from deleted folder of all my users, by mistake a retention policy was applied on the mailbox level and it moved all items older than 90 days to the deleted items folder.
A quick response will be much appreciated, i am trying to follow this process of recoverdeleteditems.ps1  but nothing works out.I was thinking to use search-mailbox but couldn't gather a proper syntax to move items to the inbox of same
    mailbox.
    Thanks in advance.

    Shaik,
You said you've used the script recoverdeleteditems.ps1. I assume you mean the script from this location: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/emeamsgdev/archive/2012/04/27/powershell-script-to-recover-all-deleted-items-in-a-mailbox.aspx
Can you tell us what it is you are exactly doing, and what is happening? Also error messages are welcome.
