Project won't save

Has anyone had experience with projects not wanting to save?  I mentioned the other day that I installed Windows 7 64-bit on a second partition, so now I can dual-boot with XP 32-bit or Windows 7.  7 has been working great so far except for this one project we have (that I had been working on in XP for the past three months) will not save in Windows 7.
When I choose save or hit Ctrl+s, the save dialog box comes up, but the bar never fills at all and the program stops responding.  I'm not sure if this is a Windows 7 problem, or just this project acting funny for some reason.  If I have to finish this project in XP, so be it, but I have noticed improvement in rendering times, etc with Windows 7 and it actually uses our 8 gigs of RAM, so I'd like to stick with it as much as I can.  Like I said, other projects seem to be fine.
If anyone has any suggestions of something to try, let me know.
Thanks.
Project Specs:
CS4, 720x480, 24fps, progressive, 48k audio.  All clips are uncompressed AVIs from After Effects.  Audio is mostly mono 48k WAVs, with a few mp3s mixed in.

Could you have inadvertantly 'locked' the project file in Windows or Mac to prevent the file from being updated?
No.  As I stated before, it works fine in Windows XP Pro 32-bit.
Try opening a new project and then importing the previous project into it.  See if you can save that way.
I've tried this and it will import into a new project, but still won't save.
Thanks for your suggestions.  If you think of anything else I could try, let me know.  The only thing that I think could be causing the problem is that when the project loads there are a number of warnings (indicated by the yellow triangle in the lower-right corner of the project) that say something about numerous clips reporting incorrect file size, or something like that, and it can't write the metadata to them.  Don't know if that would be causing this problem or not.
I think there may have been some times on this project where I updated a clip in After Effects and exported it overtop of one that was already in the Premiere project.  I was told that you shouldn't do this (and have since been careful not to), but that may have been after I started this project.  Would re-importing all of the clips and replacing them on the timeline correct this?
Thanks Again.

  • Soundtrack project won't save

    Hi,
I've got a handful of STP files which will not save. The error message is "The document '*' could not be saved" '*' = my document.
Before that comes up, when saving normally, it says that the file cannot be saved to the original location. (we have an XSan server system) so we 'save as' to the desktop or external drive and we get the above message.
Any idea on this? I can't seem to get around it and I really need to save this work!!
    Thanks in advance.

I have since tried dividing the project in to thirds. Not sure if it is saving or not. Spinning beach ball, stalled progress bar.

  • Project won't save in CS4

When attempting to save a project, I occasionally can't save my file and receive an error message suggesting "Select 'Save as' from the file menu to save the project to a new location."  This usually doesn't work, either.  Often, I just use the last auto-save file (which doesn't even appear to be saving every time the auto-save box appears, but that's another story) and redo the lost work.
I've had this happened on two different projects.  One is a miniDV project, another was 720p HDV.  Each project had a sequence roughly an hour long.  Is there something I should do to avoid this?  This current project file is 286MB.  Is that unusual?
Premiere Pro CS4, 8GB RAM, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, projects are on eSATA drives
    Thanks,

OK, could be a couple of things:
Do you have Windows Indexing turned ON for that drive, or for any drives for that matter? This ARTICLE will give you some background.
Do you have adequate defragmented, free space on your destination HDD?
Which version of CS4 do you have? Seems that CS4.2 fixed a similar issue.
Those are the first three thoughts, and maybe others will have more.

  • My Project won't save to my USB Drive

    Hi Guys!
I finally recorded my first rhythm track from my new Yamaha MOXF8 to LPX!
    Here's my problem.
I can save the song (He Did It) to LPX on my internal hard drive (a 256GB SSD), but when I try to "Save as" it to my USB Thumb Drive (which I have saved successfully to in the past when recording from my previous keyboard), I get a window that says: "Export as: He Did It" and asks where to save it.
I tell it to save to LPX Copy (my USB Drive)
       a) I check "Folder" for "Organize my Project as".
        b) I check "Audio Files" for "Copy the following files into your Project".
        c) I hit "Save"
I then get a message that says "He Did It.logicx” already exists. Do you want to replace it?"
    I choose "Replace".
I then get a message that says "The document “He Did It.logicx” could not be saved as “He Did It”.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I just tried copying the song to the Desktop first and then dragging it to the Thumb Drive.
When I tried that, I got a message that said there was not enough free disk space.
That is a good sign in that at least I didn't get a Message that said I couldn't move it there!
As an aside, I moved 75% of the songs from my usb drive to my desktop and then moved the songs I had just copied to the Trash.
But when I get the info about the thumb drive, it says it has 7.76GB used (it is a 8GB Drive).
Why is the Drive info saying that there is that much info there when I have either moved most of the songs tp my Desktop or Trash?

  • 3rd Party Plug-ins won't save settings on re-open of music project

When I'm using NI Battery 3 or Omnisphere Plug-ins they won't save the instrument setting upon re-opening my project. I'm not even using a custom setting on the instrument just a standard drum kit or omnisphere setting but when I save and close out of the program and re-open my project it sets omnisphere to the default and battery 3 or massive or whatever 3 party plugin i'm using back to the default setting...

  • Premiere Pro won't save my project

My project has been working fine up until a while ago when I tried to save it and the loading bar came up but the yellow loader wouldn't move. It won't save my project and when I click cancel the Premiere Pro simply freezes and then I have to force quit. How do I save my project??

It sounds like you're not doing this correctly.
    1. CLOSE Premiere Pro entirely.  All projects.  The entire Premiere Pro program.  Close it down.  Completely.  Maybe even restart the computer to make sure that Premiere is NOT running.
    2. Now, Hold down the Shift+Option keys.  Make sure you hold them both down at the same time.  You can hold down Shift, first, or you can hold down Option, first, but whatever you do keep holding them down.  Together.  Keep holding them down.
    3. WHILE  you're STILL holding down the Shift+Option keys, open Premiere Pro.  You can open Premiere Pro any way you wish, just make sure that when you do, you're STILL HOLDING down the Shift AND Option keys.  Keep them held down while Premiere opens.
When Premiere opens do you see any of your recent projects in the recent projects list?  If you don't, then you've successfully trashed your preferences.

  • IDVD won't 'Save as...'

I've just upgraded to iDVD 7.0.1 and my main project now won't 'Save as...' or 'Archive...'. If I select either of those items from the menu, the program instantly crashes, without even a Crash Report Form to reply to Apple.
Oddly, I can 'Save', so there's an obvious workaround: duplicate the project file in the Finder, then use that to work with.
I've restarted the machine, obviously, and checked everything I can think of. Is anyone else finding this bug?

  • Files won't save in folders

I just purchased Final Cut Studio today. I'm going through the tutorial and my files won't save in the folders created for the tutorial on my HD. I go to "send to" for Motion and Motion opens and asks for a data rate. Then when i choose one Motion opens it's window but there is no project. Any clue?

If you copied the files to your hard drive before working with them, make sure you have permission to both READ and WRITE to all the files involved. Highlight a file and hit Command i (Get Info) to see how the permissions are set. You can change them there if needed.

  • Imovie 5.02 won't save

I have read and searched for the answer to this problem. When I go to save this project that I started last night, it won't save. The capture time is around 43 minutes and 242 clips. If I try to save as, it dumps everything into the trash. I have tried all the potential fixes from permissions to upgraded to 5.02. When I try to save it a message appears about not having perrmission to save to that drive or the drive is locked. Attempted to capture to another drive. It captured but had all the same problems. Both drives are formated properly. Anybody have any ideas.

Dave, is yours an iMovie HD project or iMovie 4? iMovie 4 had a problem where iMovie would sometimes get confused about the project folder permissions.
This workaround is for this error message in iMovie 4: "The project could not be opened, because the folder is locked, or the folder permission are incorrect. If the project is on a CD-ROM, network server, or locked disk, then copy it to your hard drive before opening it. If the project is already on your hard disk, then you may not have permission to modify that folder. Correct the folder permissions and try again."
Here's how to replace the current project folder with a new folder in iMovie 4:
    1. In Finder, create a new folder anywhere OTHER THAN inside the old project folder. Name the new folder "Replacement" or something.
    2. Create a new folder inside the Replacement folder. Name it "Media".
    3. Open the Media folder of the iMovie project, then choose Edit>Select All.
    4. Drag all the selected files to the new Media folder.
    5. Drag the files inside the iMovie project folder to the Replacement folder.
    6. Repeat #2 through #4 for any other folders in the project folder.
You now have a new project folder named Replacement that contains all the files from the original project. Double-click the project file inside Replacement. If the project opens successfully, quit iMovie, rename Replacement to give it the name of your project, and you're done.
If it doesn't open successfully, move the project.mov file that's inside Replacement to some other folder and try again.

  • Help, imovie won't save clips

    Hi,
I'm new to imovie, but it doesn't seem to want to save any clips I import into a project. I save the project, go to open it and the clips are in the trash! It won't save anything on the timeline either.... Also if I edit a clip, save, then close and re-open the clip is unedited and in the trash.
Is there a way to fix this? I need to close imovie at some point and come back to a project at a later date, I can't keep re-editing everything!
    Help & thanks in advance.

I'm having this same problem with iMovie 6.0.3. It's happening on all eight eMacs (10.4.11) in my computer lab, so it's not an isolated incidence. I have the student import DV clips from a DVD. They work on them - trimming, renaming, putting in the time line - and then save the project to the hard drive. When they come back to work on it the next day, they get this message: error message. All the work they've done is undone, and the clips are all in trash. It will let me move them out, but if I save, exit and reopen, they're all back in the trash. HELP!
I deleted the preferences, but it still doesn't work. I did a search for iMovie, and deleted any thing that had been edited in the last few days, figuring something may have gotten corrupted, but this is happening on eight systems? What are the chances of eight systems all becoming corrupt at the same time?! Could this be an issue with a recent software update?
Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

  • My CSS file name won't save & won't stay linked to my pages.

    Hi there,
I moved my internal style sheet to an external style sheet and it won't save as the file name i give it, it saves as "untitled".
-i am unable to change file name in the code or directly on the file icon....it just reverts back to "untitled".
-i deceided oh well my style sheet will be called "untitled" and proceeded to work.
-i linked a few of my pages to "untitled" and saved them.
-this morninging when i opened my project up none of the styles were saved on any of the pages so i went to relink again then close and open them.   the same thing accured, none of the styles were saved.
    i am working in CS3
this is what i did to move my internal style sheet to an external style sheet
went to my CSS styles pannel and selected all
    -selected all my rules
-command clicked on the rules and chose ""move to external rules"
    - in the "move to external rules" dialogue box i chose - move rules to "a new style sheet" and click ok
    - in my "save sheet file as" dialogue box i browse to the folder (assets) where i want to save my new style sheet and name it "styles.css"
this is what i did to link my pages to the external style sheet
in the CSS styles pannel i clicke dthe attach style sheet button
in the "attach external style sheet" dialogue box i browse to "untitled" and add as a link
note: the code to link to my external sheet is still in my code <link href="assets/untitled.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
any knowledge anybody can share with me?  im new to dreamweaver...i am teaching myself so any help would be great.  thanks!

The simplest way to create an external CSS file is to use File menu > New > CSS.
Open your HTML document in code view.
Cut or Ctrl+X the CSS rules - everything between the <style type="text/css"> and </style> tags.
Switch to the new CSS file and paste style rules into the blank page.
    Hit Ctrl+S to save filename.css
Link external stylesheet to HTML document.

  • HELP!! Captivate won't save

    Hi,
I've been working on a captivate project for 4.5 hours today
and saving (at least I thought I was saving) all morning. I've been
working locally and went to "Save As" to put the folder back on the
network. Before closing captivate I checked the file on the network
and noticed that it had yesterday's date still. I then checked the
file on my local machine and it was 8:57 AM (when I first saved the
file this AM). I tried Save As and giving the file a new name. The
title bar changes to the new name, but the file is not actually
written out. (E.G. save "C:\Temp\CaptivateProj1.cp" as
    "C:\Temp\CaptivateProj1BAK.cp - the CaptivateProjBAK.cp does not
actually write to the disk - only C:\Temp\CaptivateProj1.cp is
there, and that file doesn't update whe I click save)
When I try to close Captivate it asks if I want to save. I
click Yes, but the file doesn't actually save.
Captivate knows the file has changed, it knows if I use Save
As (The title bar changes) but it WON'T SAVE.
Any ideas on what is causing this? A workaround? At the
least, a way to export my work (Tried to FLA but Cap needs to save
    first.)
    Thanks for any help!
    Steven Lee

Hi Steven and welcome to our community
I would suggest you avoid mixing Captivate and the network
altogether. If you need to store something on the LAN, save it
locally and manually copy the saved file to the LAN location.
Captivate is known to have all sorts of issues when working with
    files on a network.
I can't help but to notice you mention saving to to a folder
with the name TEMP in it. If this is truly the location, have you
tried a different local location? Perhaps C:\Projects or some such?
I'm wondering if TEMP in the path would possibly confuse Captivate.
I suppose if worse comes to worst, you could try opening a
second instance of Captivate and creating a blank project with the
same dimensions. Then copy the slides from the seemingly errant
project to the new one. Then try saving.
Hope you get it sorted... Rick
