Prologix LabVIEW write/read error

Hello,
I am a student/research assistant working on a LabVIEW program that was passed on to me from another student. I am not sure what happened between taht time and now but I am having problems with a write/read step from a Prologix GPIB. I have attached the vi code as well as several screen shots. I have checked the read/write module without running the program and I get a green arrow but still get a error code. After running the program, I get an error that is visible in the block diagram. I am really not sure what to do about this. By the way, I am taking measurements from a Homodyne setup. I will appreciate any help or suggestions. Thank you for your time.

    Error -301742 occurred at NI-845x I2C Write Read.vi
"Possible reason(s):NI-845x:  The slave did not acknowledge an address+direction byte transmitted by the I2C master. Reasons include the incorrect address set in the I2C configuration or the incorrect use of the 7-bit address. When entering an address to access a 7-bit device, do not include the direction bit. The NI-845x Basic I2C API internally sets the direction bit to the correct value, depending on the function (write or read). If your datasheet specfies the 7-bit device address as a byte, discard the direction bit (bit 0) and right-shift the byte value by one to create the 7-bit address."
We have connected the pull up resistors on the SDA and SCL line.
The error seems to be strange in our case,
    We have two setup
    1. Using a push button to power the device and wires through the pull up resistor.
    2. We are trying to communicate using a NI 2569 for the SDA and SLC and the Power supply to the device.
We do not observe the error in case 1,however, in case 2 we do observe, attached are the waveform pics for the same.
Noted that we have the clock signal rise delay in case 2, is this because of the relay 2569?
Any help will be highly appreciated.

I don't quite understand your setup, and I'm not sure what I'm looking at with the figures you posted. What does the 2569 have to do with the 8451? You also said
    1. Using a push button to power the device and wires through the pull up resistor.
I have no idea what this means.
It's hard to tell from the pictures, but for the Case 1 figure, it appears that you are generating a correct start condition. It's also indicating that are sending a read transaction. You didn't indicate what device you're talking to, so we can't say for sure if this is correct.
In the second case it also appears that you generating a correct start condition. The slow rise times that you are seeing in the clock is probably due to extra capacitance on the bus, or weak pullups, or both. This transaction appears to be a write transaction, but with no data.
At this point, without knowing what device you're talking to, a better explanation of your setup, and the code itself, I'm not sure how much help we can be.

  • Reading Waveform (.hws) files from Analog Waveform Editor into LabVIEW causes read errors

    Hi Gang,
In my application, I want to create files Using the Analog Waveform Editor and then, through LavVIEW, play them out through an D/A.
I've not been able to read the .hws file into LV.  I've tried two methods:
Using the Read Waveform VI in the Waveform palette, yields Error -1821.
I looked in the knowledgebase and found the article "Using the Analog Waveform Editor and HWS Files with Multifunction DAQ Devices"  That recommended using the HWS VIs that are a part of the FGEN driver.  I tried that and get an Error -21515.
The file I want to read is quite small, only 20 samples.  Is there some limitation on .hws files or the Waveform Editor I'm not aware of?
I've attached the file if anyone is willing to experiment. I had to change the extension from .hws to .txt to be able to attach it.
    All responses will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Roger

Interesting. I tried to look at your file with the low level read .hws file vi's and I too got error -21515. So I tried the NI-HWS express load.vi and it looks like it worked. I'm not familiar with the analog waveform editor...does it store using the dynamic data type? Oh I converted the dynamic data to 1d array of waveforms using the convert from dynamic data.vi.

  • XY graph: write an error

    Hello,
I wish to write a character like an "x" or a null character (like a empity
space) when my VI generate a read error.
    How can I do?
    Thanks

If I understand you correctly, you show data in an xy-graph. If an error occurs you want to switch to either (1) a different point style or (2) generate a gap in the graph.
For case (1), switch to a second plot while generating NaN on plot 1 (and vice versa). For case 2, simply add points where x or y is NaN during the error condition.
I have attached a simple interactive example (LabVIEW 7.0). Run it and press the button to simulate the error condition. Let me know if this is what you want.

  • TCP read error 57

    Hi, everyone:
In my graduation design,  I need to acquire the data of biscuits from a video and then send it to a VC program. I've achieved the sending process correctly and the program can receive the data. But when I wanted to send a message from the VC program to LabVIEW, the TCP  read error 57 occurred.
The TCP write VI and the TCP read VI are in different loops, and they use the same refnum. In the picture, the case structure in top while loop is the data acquiring program so I don't show them.
Can anybody teach me how to correct this program so it can receive data from the VC program? Thanks and forgive my poor English!

    Hi,
Today i haven't any problem on the connection. The file is not changed. I think the system held some processes those use the tcp connection. I didn't think to watch in the task manager. It is the only explanation that I can pop out. Anyway I put above the program that gave me that problem. Please, check if the application is bad-built and suggest to me an alternative. Thanks
The block linked over is send-receive packet, opened above. In the first frame the block above send a message on the tcp connection, then it waits 1 second, finally it waits for the answer on the same connection (8 seconds).
The tcp reading block returns error 57. No other request on the same connection is active. I let the timeout of the block to end every 50 ms, I ignore error 56 (timeout) end I terminate the loop execution if:
    - a message of a least 5 character is received (application protocol specification).
    - the timeout of the receiving block ends (8 seconds)
    - a tcp error different from 56 turns out.

  • LabVIEW FPGA Module Error Code 10 when creating bitfile

I am recieving the following error message when trying to compile a vi:
    Internal Error
An internal LabVIEW FPGA Module error occurred at the following stage: Creating Bitfile.
    Error Code: 10
Error Text: Create Folder in nirviRecursiveCreateFolder.vi-

    >nirviCompileDownload.vi->hardware_template.vi
If this problem persists, please contact National Instruments.
Any help would be appreciated.  I am not very familiar with LabView, and am trying to run code generated by a grad student several summers ago.  If more information is needed, let me know and I will try to provide it.
    Thanks

    Arkolbus-
It sounds like the compiler is having some trouble creating a folder that it needs to generate the bitfile.  First, check all of the usual things: are you an administrator? do you have worte access to the "FPGA Bitfiles" folder in your project?
If it looks like you should be able to write the file, you can try posting your project (zipped) and let someone on the boards try to compile it (be sure to let us know what the versoin is). If we can compile it without issue you may want to try repairing your FPGA module installation.

  • LiCor Serial Read Errors - hex 0xBFFF006c

    Hello All,
I've been trying for the last few days to develop a serial VI to read the data from a LiCor-820 CO2 gas analyzer. I know what is sent to the device to request it to send the data back to the computer and how to parse that data once it gets back. The settings in its manual are Baud:9600, Data Bits:8, Parity:None,Stop Bits:1, and Flow Control:None.  I've been having problems with the hex 0xBFF006C -"An overrun error occured during transfer. A character was not read from the hardware before the next character arrived." In the Basic Serial Write/Read vi provided with labview, this error happens every time. In my own, which I've attached, I would get that error once every nine or ten times when run once each time. Sometimes the error would be present the first time I pressed run, but after I click OK, the next run would work fine until about the tenth time.
Does anyone have any idea why this might be occurring? I really just need to be able to read the pressure, the temp, and the CO2 accurately as well as repeatedly without a problem.
    Much Thanks!

Ok. So I solved my problem with a colleague at work, but it took an unfortunate amount of time. I think the attached VI will work a LiCor-820. I think you can fix the buffer overflow problems by putting everything in a while loop with an error handler. Basically, the error handler can prevent errors from displaying, and at the same time, it can also pass a stop or continue condition to the while loop. I chose to make it continue after clearing the read buffer until there wasn't an error. I incorporated a for loop because the data on the first run is usually just a partial read of the entire data passed from the LiCor. I know this probably isn't the most elegant solution, but it works for this situation so far.
Thanks for everyone's views and suggestions.

  • "write medium error" when trying to burn a music cd

i've tried a few different times to burn a cd on my itunes and the same thing happens every time: i insert a black disk and my computer begins to make a noise that sounds not unlike grinding. the progress bar at the top of the itunes box says it is checking the songs, then initializing the burn, which it does for a couple minutes. then it says it is finalizing the burn, and spits the cd back out at me. a message then pops up on the screen which tells me that the cd was unable to burn because of a "write medium error." any help in this area will be greatly appreciated.
p.s. i also tried downloading and installing the new itunes, as well as restarting my computer, all with the same effect.
    p.p.s. i'm using a macbook pro.

    seenabeena,
Same exact thing was happening to me and was very frustrating. I was able to burn anything on from my itunes and then for whatever reason I started experiencing the same issues you are having. Don't know why it made a difference but someone here suggested using different brand of CD's. Guess the cheaper CD's are harder to read when it comes to the laser calibration. This isn't a endorsement at all but seems I've been able to burn anything again on the "imation" brand CD blanks. I hope this helps. Also, make sure you don't burn at anything higher than 8X when you start.

after writing an html report on a floppy disk and removing it, labview shows an error message window: disk not present.
My pc is based on asus motherboard. Labview 7 and Windows 2000 sp4 installed.

I've got this problem only on a pc: on other machines i don't have this problem (Labview only continues to access floppy but it doesn't show any window).

    Hi,
I tried your vi: I don't get any error message after removing the disk but LV7 keeps on accessing the drive at regular intervals even if you stop the vi and close it!!! This is not supposed to happen.
The only way to stop it is exit LV7.
If you don't use the file dialog and you wire a full path, you don't get any problem.
I also created a very simple vi that conditionally writes a text file on a: and I got the same behaviour.
This problem occurs only with LV7, I tried the same examples in LV6.1 and everything was fine.
If anybody wants to try I attach this simple example,
    Alberto

  • Write/read image to avi file, VI works incorrectly from the second run

Hi everybody, in my labview I write image from IMAQ USB to avi file and read image from avi file, the VI runs correctly at the first run then after that it goes wrong, I can write/read only one frame and it terminates automatically. Does anybody know why and how to solve this?
    Thanks a lot,
    Hannah

Without seeing your code I can't comment specifically, but if it runs correctly the first time and then stops be looking for something that is not getting reinitialized correctly. Also what exactly do you have to do to get it to work again? Close and reopen the VI? Restart LV? Restart the computer?

  • IPod won't sync, gives 'Delayed Write Failed' error.

I've had my iPod classic 80gb, for roughly a year now, and I never really had any permanent issues with it, until last week. I plugged it into my laptop and left it on over night. I wake up in the morning and all my songs and videos were gone. iTunes was reading the data as 'Other'. Overnight, without me doing a single thing, everything was gone. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and all the files were gone. Completely. Space had been returned.
I painstakingly put my songs back in that afternoon. The next day, I plugged the ipod into my office computer, and tried to sync my podcasts. After syncing about 20 files, iTunes froze. Then a yellow bubble popped up saying 'Delayed Write Failed' after which it wipes out everything I was able to sync.
I've done everything, from restoring the ipod, to re-installing iTunes to formatting the disk to straight up performing a chkdsk. As i speak right now, my laptop won't boot up after i performed the last chkdsk, which told me i had a bunch of invalid sectors or some other. For one week, I've searched the net and it seems no-one has a solution to this.
Any help? I don't have an Apple store in my country, and I don't want to believe that i have to get a replacement.

    1st - Sorry I can't help you.
I also have iPod Classic 80gb and have had no trouble till two days ago (11/08). I connected my iPod and it showed up as a source in iTunes but none of my music was shown. I reconnected it and same thing, I checked for update for iPod but it said it was up to date. I then used iTunes to restore my iPod to factory settings. It went through the process and restarted but after that would never show up as a source in the iTunes window.
When I connect the iPod to my PC it detects the USB Device as an iPod right way (so it doesn't seem to be a USB Driver issue) but then the "Auto-Play" window shows up and it makes my PC slow way down and then eventually I see the "Windows Delayed Write Failed" error mesage in the task bar. If I check My Computer it shows the iPod as a drive.
I've done everything listed in Apples Support Page for this, from restoring the iPod, to re-installing iTunes, clearing temp folder and old registry files, updating iPod Service in MsConfig. I have also tried to sync the iPod with my other PC and see the same error so it seems the iPod is corrupted. I don't know anyway to restore factory settings again since it won't show up in iTunes anymore. I've searched the net and it seems no-one has a solution to this.
