Proper Credit in Independent Film

I know that this question isn't specifically about FCP - but I wanted feedback from other Editors and this seemed to be the best place to do it. I have a question about proper credits on an independent film I've been working on.
The movie was shot about eight years ago and then shelved. At that time the original editor pieced together a rough cut and then loss interest in the project. The Writer/Director/Producer on the film has done some editing on the film both originally and since I came onto the project but in all cases I had to go in and clean up what he had done, make a few tweaks, etc. Right now all three of us are listed as Editors in the credits. I'm not trying to be greedy but I've put A LOT of time in on this project (MUCH more than the original Editor) and if what the other two have done would technically, and more appropriately, fall under the credit of Assistant Editor I would like to know. Or if there is some other credit that would be fine as well.
Thanks!
Matt

I'll add what I said to the question that you tagged onto the end of another thread...
If you capture footage, organize it. Maybe just do a simple stringout of narration and soundbytes (that is in a doc world)...then outputs, export EDLs and XMLS and interface between the audio post house and effects house and online house, and do all the TECHNICAL things... Then you are an assistant editor.
If you make any creative editing decisions...regardless if they are cleaned up or changed by someone else later...you are an editor. Even doing the rough cut. That is an EDITOR duty. They should get editor credit, but not necessarily shared credit at the front of the show.
If you tried to tell the director/producer/writer that what they did is "assistant stuff," and that you did all the work and should get headline editing credit, I'd be surprised if you received ANY credit. My initial read of this situation would be that you and the director receive shared credit in the front of the film, and that the original editor who did only the rough cut might recieve ADDITIONAL EDITING in the end credits. BUT, credit placement is highly political, so this might not be the case.
And it is entirely up to the producer if you will even RECEIVE credit. Again, this is political.
For example. I was the Apprentice Editor on U-TURN (Oliver Stone film). But when the movie came out, I didn't receive an on screen credit. Yeah, it hurt...it hurt a lot. But contractually they didn't have to give me a credit. They don't have to give most people credit, only heads of departments really. But they are nice. Also, when I worked on that film there were two editors and one associate editor. By the time the movie came out, the Associate editor moved up to EDITOR, and one of the editors working on the rough cut left the show and moved to Seattle. So he received ADDITIONAL EDITING credit in the end credits.

  • Soundtrack Pro or Pro Tools LE 7 w/DV Toolkit, for Post for Film/Video???

    Hi all,
I've recently been getting some post production work in the pipeline and wanted to get your opinion on a few changes in software I'm making for these upcoming gigs.
Up until now, I've mainly been using Logic Pro for almost all my work, but Logic is much more geared as a music creation tool, that I'm looking at other options that are a bit more geared for post production. I mainly do sound editing, mixing and voice over or dialog recording for independent film, and video projects.
I've been looking at Pro Tools LE 7 and Soundtrack Pro. Both seem to have the more flexible editing architecture I'm looking for in post work. It appears though that I need to purchase the DV toolkit to accomplish proper post production functionality in Pro Tools LE, while Soundtrack Pro seems to have everything built in to it.
What do you guys think? How has your experience been between the two programs? You opinions would be greatly appreciated!!

As someone who just tried to use Soundtrack Pro to post a film, I'd say go with Pro Tools. Soundtrack Pro will eventually be a great alternative to Pro Tools. There's no extra hardware requirement, it integrates well with FCP, and so forth. I like the built-in noise reduction tools, and will probably keep using them. However, in my case STP was way too unstable. It kept crashing when I was trying to save files, and in some cases it corrupted the files. This led to lots of heartbreak for me, and now I'm having to rebuild my audio in Pro Tools.
That said, Pro Tools is expensive. If I didn't have the money, I'd settle for using Soundtrack Pro or something like it - Vegas; Bias Inc.'s Deck. If you have the money, Pro Tools is an absolute standard, and you can't really go wrong with it.

Part of the validation for credit cards is that they need to be registered to exactly the same name and address that you have on your iTunes account, which prepaid cards tend not to be. Do you have a proper credit card that you could use ? Or are iTunes gift cards available in your country so that you could try using them as your payment method ?
Until you have a valid payment method on your account and what you owe iTunes has been paid off then you won't be able to download any item from the store, including free apps (and updates to apps).

  • A/r Credit Memo (service) - Closed status

    Dear All,
How would a service credit memo closed? As far as i'm concern, its either we offset it during incoming payment (to contra with other document) or during internal reconciliation. Correct me if i'm wrong. Is there any other method can this document being closed? I have one credit memo that the status has been closed, but it was not due to these methods. Any advice? Can i unclosed this document? How would i resolve this?
    Thanks.
    Harith

    Hi Harith,
The status of the AR Credit Memo will be CLOSED when the same is reconciled with another document or it is based on the AR Invoice. An independent AR Credit Memo will only show status closed when it has be reconciled with another document.
I reproduced the issue mentioned by you. Check the following steps in the Demo database :
    1) Create a AR Credit Memo (independent; service type for say 100) and check the status. The status will be Open.
    2) Reconcile the AR Credit Memo with another document with similar amount under Automatic reconciliation and after reconciling check the ststus of the AR Credit memo which will be Closed now.
    3) Cancel the reconciliation done through the Manage Previous Reconciliation window under Banking Module.
    4) Now check the status of the AR Credit Memo. It still shows status Closed.
    5) You can also see that the AR Credit Memo closed will still appear in the Automatic Reconciliation window for Reconciling with another document.
The Status of the AR Credit Memo cannot be set to Open again. You can however reconcile the same with the relevant Document through the Automatic reconciliation.
    Hope it clarifies.

  • Ive entered in a itunes gift card a month ago and the credit is no longer showing up in my history or on my account. is there some way to track this down?

I entered in a redemption code for an itunes gift card a month ago and it no longer is showing up on my account. Is there somewhere to look to locate where AND why I'm not getting the proper credit? The origianl gift card was thrown away after i entered the redemption code in.

You can pay for iTunes downloads by credit card, gift card or pre-paid card, you just have to have fill in your credit card information in your iTunes account. If you have any credit left over from iTunes cards that you purchased and redeemed previously these will be used up before iTunes starts charging your credit card: How to set up an iTunes Store account

  • Sub-line of credit in case of facilities

    Hi,
I have created various lines of credit in TCL1 such as
    1.Funded
    2.Non-Funded, etc
I created a facility using 56B. At the structure tab, there is an option 'Other lines'. Here, I want to have the Prim.line of credit as the Main line of credit and the sub-lines of credit as
    Funded and Non-funded.
However when I try to do that I get an error FTR_FC012:Main Line of credit cannot be selected.
    Please guide.

    Hi,
Thanks for your suggestion. However, there is a problem.
Let me give u an example for better understanding of the requirement.
eg. Suppose there is a facility sanctioned for $1 million out of which $0.60m is funded and $0.40m is non-funded.
    So the limits would be:
Main line of credit/prim.line of credit =$1m. The bifurcation of which would be Subline : funded=$0.60m & non-funded= $0.40m
When I draw $0.30m against Funded sub-line, my drawings should show $0.30m against Funded as well as main(prim.) line of credit.
However, currently I am getting drawings only against Funded and not against the main line of credit.
In other words, it is treating the main line of credit as independent of the subline.

  • Request for Credit Card krrps happening every 30 mins

I receive a request for credit card information every hour at least which my Trend virus blocker kills. This only happens when Firefox is open.

I believe i can fix this for a some of you out there. The problem is that Apple forces you to have the exact same address the USPS has one file. They do an address verification with the information you submit and they change your city and zip code to match 100 percent.
The problem is that most people do not change their billing zip code on their credit card when their zip code changes. For example, my zip code was 84088 up until about 3 years ago when it was change to 84081. I have never change my zip code or my city name with my credit card company so when i put in my billing address i always put 84088. Apple decided that they want to force people to change their credit card billing address to match EXACTLY what the USPS has.
Most credit card transactions can get a better rate if the billing address of the transaction matches the billing address of the card. That is why they always ask for it. However, it makes no sense for Apple to force you to change it to the USPS address because only the credit card billing address and the credit card transaction billing address need to match.
So, on to my fix. Do not put the whole street address, only put in the first set of numbers. If your address is "1000 Elm Street" then just put in "1000" ino the street address. Then put your proper credit card billing address zip code in. Because apple can't do the USPS database search without the full street address they will not change your city/zip but you credit card validation will work just fine because credit card address validation only cares about the first set of numbers.
SERIOUSLY APPLE?!? Get a clue! There is no need for you to force us to match the USPS address 100%.

  • Fix for "Credit Card Rejected" / "Can't buy apps" / other CC issues

If you're having problems buying things from iTunes such as:
-- Credit card rejected (even if you're paying by PayPal)
-- Session Timeouts (on a non-Microsoft platform -- there is a different fix for Session Timeout on a Microsoft platform)
-- Credit card information does not match bank information
-- Unable to create a new account or save changes from iTunes to your account
After struggling for 3 days to fix this problem, I finally found something that works EVERY time, at least for me, and people who go through ALL the steps also find it works for them. It's important to follow ALL the steps -- people who skipped steps because "all my information LOOKS right" kept having problems until they followed all of them, and then all the problems cleared up. So, here's what I've found works EVERY time:
    -- Sign out of iTunes.
-- Reboot your Mac or whatever device you're using to access the iTunes store (including your iPhone and/or iPad).
-- Open a web browser and go to http://appleid.apple.com (or Google "Apple ID" and choose the "My Apple ID" option).
-- Sign in with your Apple ID and click "Manage your account".
-- Verify ALL of your user information. Seriously, verify and validate EVERYTHING--your name, your e-mail address, your mailing address, your shipping address, your phone number, all of it. Make sure your Primary Address EXACTLY matches the address your bank has as your primary address; if those don't match, your purchase will be refused. If your Primary Address spans 2 lines, change it into 1 line (that is, turn "123 Main Street" and "Apartment 456" into "123 Main Street, Apartment 456") and blank out the second line. Make sure your Apple ID is linked to a valid e-mail address; if not, your purchase will be refused because there will be nowhere to send purchase information and other Apple e-mail. Make sure your date of birth is correct and not missing any part of it (like your birth year; mine had somehow come un-set); otherwise, your age cannot be verified and your purchase may not go through. Click "Save Changes" whenever you change something.
-- Once all that is done, sign into iTunes, then click on the little downward-pointing triangle next to your Apple ID in the upper-right corner of iTunes and choose "Account".
    -- Click "Edit Payment Information".
-- Choose "None" as your payment option, make sure all your address and phone number information already listed is correct, fix anything that isn't correct, and click "Done". This will force iTunes to verify your account information as it exists in iTunes with what is registered for your Apple ID at http://appleid.apple.com.
-- You may be asked to verify the county for your billing address (for sales tax purchases); make sure this is correct, or transactions could be refused. Click "Done" when finished.
-- Go back to the "Account" screen and choose "Edit Payment Information" again.
Choose either the credit card logo of the card you want to use or choose "PayPal".
-- If you choose PayPal, follow the directions on the web page that pops up in your browser to verify your PayPal account and link it with your Apple ID. Click "Return to iTunes Store" inside the web browser to return control to iTunes, then click "Done".
-- If you choose to enter a credit card, make sure EVERYTHING is correct on the page--your credit card type, account number, CVV, billing address, etc.--and then click "Done".
I had to do this every time I restarted iTunes to buy something for two days, but as long as I did ALL the steps every time I restarted iTunes, I was able to buy anything I wanted with no problems.
If you're still having problems after all of this, contact iTunes Support via e-mail. This is important -- the more help requests Apple gets about this issue, the more seriously they will have to take it and the more likely it will be that they address the problem with the seriousness it deserves. The link to file a trouble request via e-mail is:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact.html?form=account&topic=iTunes%20Sto re%20Account%20and%20Billing&subtopic=Managing%20your%20Account

  • Cameras for filming??

I recently got into FCPX and ive been filming a lot but ive noticed something that must be obvious to anyone with any sort of experience.
The camera i use does not provide good quality video.
Can someone suggest a good camera, which can record from about 100-120 feet and still look HD? I'm looking for a price range of anywhere from $800-$2000.
The cheaper the better, of course, but i need a good balance of quality and price.
    Please help.

'quality' is - aside the operators abilities - determined by a few factors:
    • glas, aka optics
    • sensor/size
    • bit-rate/codec
DSLR and System-Cameras allow a wide variaty of glasses ... a friend has a (cheap) Canon 600D with a (expensive) f1.8 optics .... wow!
The larger the sensor, the easier to accomplish DoF (if wanted!), but the higher the price. Again: you don't get camcorders with a large sensor for an affordable price, but 'full size' DSLRs kill your wallet too ....
'last years devices' often fullfill only AVCHD v1 standards - which limits on  24mbps. v2 supports higher rates, usually 28mbps for 50p/60p, or beyond (JVC PX1 has 34mbps). Again, unbeatable: non-camcorders, such as Panasonics (Russian pimped) GH2 or the latest GH3 with (official supported) 50-70mbps (that is broadcast standards). For independent film-makers, the GH2 was for a while first choice, maybe used within your price range.-
Aside budget, your needs define the model - I'm doing a) hobby b) sports = no need for low-light, ext mic etc, so a Pana hcv707(US: 700) fullfills all my musts, a 1/2" sensor, 28-700mm zoom, 28mbps, 1080/50p. got it for 380€.
The actual available 'still-cams+video' offer only v1.
Devices like Sony NEX or Nikon V1 are beyond my/your budgets .....
For 'photography', my choice would be a Pana hcv800/900/909 ... 3mos, 'brutal' good pic-quality, but close to the 1k€ range.
    If money doesn't matter, a Canon600/650 (body: ~500€) , or a fullsize (body: ~2000) , plus some glases (= extra +2-3000$) ....

  • Applying for multiple lines of credit at once

Hi all, So I have fair credit (667TU/669Equifax) with ~5 years repayment history on 15 open student loan accounts (ugh), all in good standing with no bad marks on my report.  I want to refinance a few of my high-interest private loans, and before that I'm planning to boost my credit by opening up a credit card, my very first in my 27 years.  I have an irrational fear of credit cards, as I've seen too many family and friends abuse them and get into a lot of trouble, so it's taken a lot to work myself up to get this far.  I'm not sure which would be the best card for me to apply for, and I would be very grateful for any suggestions, but that is not why I am making this post.  My s/o approached me last night with a proposition to get a new livingroom couch that we really do need.  Apparently Bob's Furniture is having some amazing 4th of July sale that she wants to take advantage of, so she wants me to try to apply for a line of credit with the store in order to finance the purchase (since I don't already have a credit card, and she has literally NO credit whatsoever).  I have no doubt that the balance could be paid off within a few months, or even by the end of this month.   Would this be a good idea for me, keeping in mind my ultimate goal of getting a credit card and keeping a low balance on it in order to boost my score?  Would my application even be approved?  And if so, would it negatively affect my score or otherwise affect my chances of applying for another credit card at around the same time?  If she tried to apply instead of me, would she be denied (I'm thinking probably, she applied for a Kohl's card earlier in the year to get the discount on her purchase and was immediately denied)?  Basically, should I go through with this, advise her to try to open a line of credit herself and start rebuilding her own credit, or tell her to wait until they have another sale and I've had time to apply for a proper credit card?

I would apply for a card that you can use long term. You will get a score boost when you open a credit card, and it will further help build your profile and score. Unless the sale is insane, I would skip the store card and do some research on what credit card would work best for you (rewards structure). Are those scores FICO scores, or FAKO scores (CreditKarma etc)?

Each time that you add or change your credit card details on your iTunes account the temporary store holding charge may be applied to check that the card details are correct and valid and that it's registered to exactly the same name and address as on your iTunes account - so if you changed your card details 7 times in 10 minutes then you will have received 7 charged. They should disappear off your account within a few days or so.
    Store holding charge : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3702
Part of the validation for credit cards is that it's registered to exactly the same name and address as you have on your iTunes account - which prepaid cards tend not to be. Do you have a proper credit card that you can use ?

  • Cannot use credit card message

I Keep getting a message that says "cannot use this credit card". There is nothing wrong with my visa card. Why do I get this message?

It is a 'proper' credit card (and it's not a debit card) that you are trying to use, not a pre-paid card ?
For a card to have a chance of being accepted it needs to be registered to exactly the same name and address (including format and spacing etc) that you have on your iTunes account, and have been issued by a bank in the country where you and your iTunes account are. If your card does match then you could try contacting iTunes Support (these are user-to-user forums) and see if they know why it's not being accepted : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management
Or do you have another card that you could try ?
