Proxy Listener Connections

I have a requirement to secure the database server, yet we have some apps that connect remotely via odbc to the database directly. I am trying to determine if there is anyway to minimize direct connections from client machines to the DB server. The main app uses oracle forms, and app server, so we can create a private communications network for those connections. Is there a way to proxy sqlnet connections via a listener on a forward facing server. For instance I connect to server A which is running Oracle Net, can that server proxy the connection to server B via the private network, creating a machanism where no direct client connections exist to the DB server.
thanks.

try looking up Oracle Connection Manager. I've used this in the past to proxy connections through firewalls where the firewall wasn't sqlnet aware. The client basically connects to the Connection Manager server and the connection manager does all the talking to the server and basically passes the information back to the client.
I'm sure that it would work for what you are trying to do. I've not used it since 9i (or possibly 8i) as firewalls are now sqlnet aware but it used to be an optional install from the database server cds.
cheers.

  • Proxy Listener, Reverse Proxy and Security

I am wondering if someone can help me regarding security. I added an additional proxy listener to do reverse proxy. Unfortunately I started to notice my bandwidth usage skyrocket - outside users were using me as a proxy. How do I limit a proxy listener that I am using externally to only process requests for my internal web servers? Thank you...

    Hi
Is there a way to authenticate a database user without creating
a connection in a java application container like geronimo? If you want that the database engine authenticates the users, you have to connect to it. If you really want to do it before attempting a connection, I see no other possibility than to let the application do the authentication. In such a situation it is common to use a technical user for the database. If specific DB-features like VPD are needed, then you should use a proxy user instead. But, once more, the authentication should be performed from the application.

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • Trouble with a JMS proxy listening to a distributed topic

    Hi all,
I've setup an ALSB cluster with 1 admin instance and 2 managed instances (m01 and m02).
I've also configured 1 distributed topic A and defined the two below proxies:
    - proxy P1 is a http proxy that publishes a message into the distributed topic A. The proxy uses a business service with jms protocol and endpoint uri:
    jms://wasdv1r3n1.dev.b-source.net:7301,wasdv1r3n1.dev.b-source.net:7303/my.ConnectionFactory/DistributedTopicA
    - proxy P2 is a JMS proxy listening to
    jms://wasdv1r3n1.dev.b-source.net:7301,wasdv1r3n1.dev.b-source.net:7303/my.ConnectionFactory/DistributedTopicA
that logs the received message and writes it to file.
The strange behaviour is that on the managed m01 log file I see the message received from P2 but also on the managed m02 log file I see the message received from P2.
So I'm sending out 1 message and receiving 1 x managed that is total = 2.
This strange behaviour is also confirmed from the fact that I see on the file system 2 files and not only 1.
I thought it was a problem concerning the config of business service that publishes message into the distributed topicA; but I tried with an external 'normal' java JMS subscriber that listens to t3://wasdv1r3n1.dev.b-source.net:7301,wasdv1r3n1.dev.b-source.net:7303 and it works properly: it receives only 1 message.
I'm trying to understand where is my fault.
Do you have any idea ?
    Thanks in advance
    Patrizio

If you publish a message to a topic, all the proxy that subscribed to this topic will receive the message. If you want the message to be processed by only one managed server you can publish to a queue instead.

  • Proxy https connection with client certificate credentials

Hello, we are building a application like netvibes/iGoogle which allows users to have portlets with rss feeds in them. The portlets are all loaded using ajax and therefore, the RSS feeds must exist on the same domain as the portal. If they don't, you run into problems with cross-domain security issues with ajax. Usually to get around this you just proxy the connection on the server which is very simple with rss feeds that are exposed via http. We however have many feeds that are exposed via https. These feeds likely require a client certificate to authenticate them. Therefore, just doing a basic proxy (take the distant url and open a new connection on the server) won't work because it will build the new connection with the servers credentials and not the users.
Is there a way to build the connection on the server using the users credentials?? How can we proxy this connection over https?
If anyone has ideas, please let me know.
    Thanks!

in fact you are more using a reverse-proxy than a proxy since it is on the server part..
You have to put all the SSL server part on the reserve-proxy itself and not on the final RSS feed. Then, the reverse-proxy will authenticate your client and gets its certificate. After that, either this proxy will open a plain connection (no ssl) towards the RSS, or you can also open a ssl connection but this means you must create a client certificate for the proxy. It just depends on the security level you need, and I used this solution many times in professional hosting.
    hope it helps !

Any suggestions on what I can ask my IT department to change on the server so I can connect would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Jeremy,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
From the error and other description it seems that there is some misconfiguration with setup. You need to provide the FQDN name of the server as might server name is not resolving its name properly and so facing issue. As seems from below details:
    [2014-Nov-26 15:52:20] RDP (0): Final rdp configuration used:gatewayhostname:s:gato.gibbscam.com
    screen mode id:i:0
    use multimon:i:1
    session bpp:i:24
    full address:s:dev-JeremyS2.gibbs.local
Configuration used and full address name both appears different so please verify configuration accordingly.
Please check the DNS record, check certificate whether it match FQDN name of the server with certificate name, also try to check to connect with IP address and see what result you can find.
You can follow below guide to configure RD Gateway and after that verify the result.
    1. Deploying Remote Desktop Gateway RDS 2012
    2. How To Work with RD Gateway in Windows Server 2012
    Hope it helps!

  • Disconnecting listener connection to workstation, request timed out

<b>144820.P0251WLADC!WSL.6461.1.0: WSNAT_CAT:1175: WARN: Disconnecting listener connection to workstation, request timed out</b>
    hello all,
i have been observing this error number of times these days.
catalogue messages say "This probably indicates that the number of workstation clients that need to join the application can not be supported by the existing configuration"
how do i define a client?
I want to know diffrence between remote clients & native clients. As far as i know remote clients are WorkStation clients but what are native clients?
thr is billing application (Singl.eview 4.02) residing above tuxedo 7.1 & by Work station clients i mean all remote clients logging into the front-end of the billing application.
    i run following script:
    echo 'pclt' | tmadmin -r 2>/dev/null | egrep -v '>|-------|tpsysadm|tmadmin|WSH|^$'|wc -l
& most of the times i get o/p greater than 40 (MAXWSCLIENTS)
basically, what is the diffrence between front-end clients and tuxedo clients/users?
this is what has been defined in my ubb...
    MAXACCESSERS     4000
    MAXSERVERS     1200
    MAXWSCLIENTS 40
    pls clarify the doubt.
    thanks & regards
    abhijeet

    Hi Abhijit,
The message regarding time out is probably due to time limit defined for WSL in your UBBConfig file. Check whether in CLOPT parameter for WSL timeout value(with '-t' option) is defined or not? due to this timeout value, whenever any WS client will be in idle status more than the timelimit, will get disconnected with the warning message.
Native client is the client process which interact with Tuxedo services without using WSL, means that process should run on the same box. But a remote/WS client may reside on same as well as on remote box.

  • Because of a POLL() Timeout, Listener Connection to a DB Takes Long Time!

Envionment: OS: OEL5.3 (2.6.18-128.el5Xen) x86-64bit RDBMS: 11.1.0.7 (in an OVM setup)
    The Problem:
It takes more than 10 seconds to get connected to the 11.1.0.7 database using SQL*Net with dedicated servers.
    Points to consider:
    0. I posted this in DB (Net) forum as well.
    1. Direct local connection has no such issue.
    2. Connection to a 10.2.0.4 database on the same server is no problem either (direct as well as through SQL*Net)
    3. Only dedicated connection takes such a long time. With shared servers, the connection is quick again.
    4. Using prespawned servers does not help.
    5. Connection is quick with another 11.1.0.7 on the same network (another guest on the same OVM server, but it is 32-bit: OEL4.3 / 2.6.9-55.0.12.9.1 ELxenU)
When I ran strace on the client as well as on listener (using: strace -T -tt -ff -o <outputfile> -p <pid>), the client process took the longest time waiting for a read() call to finish (about 10 seconds), and by looking at the entries with the same timestamp from the listener side straces, I found the following entries from the shadow process:
    11:41:01.095138 poll({fd=10, events=POLLIN}, 1, 4769) = 0 (Timeout) <4.768228>
    11:41:06.086246 poll({fd=10, events=POLLIN}, 1, 4777) = 0 (Timeout) <4.777516>
As we can see, these timeouts together account for more than 9.5 seconds out of 10.x seconds total elapsed time.
Any clue why this happens (and why not in other cases listed above)? More important, how to get this resolved? __If decreasing the timeout value for the POLL call could be a workaround, how can I achieve that in OEL5.3?_
Appreciate all your help and suggestions.
    Thanks and regards,
    Govardhanan.

I've updated my profile to show my email address, so go ahead and email me the strace output (compressed please). Maximum attachment size for emails to Oracle is 10MB (encoded), so split the strace output in 5MB chunks if necessary.
poll() is not normally used by the Oracle network layer for client-server connections. So this may be related to an OS network service, such as DNS or NIS. The strace should make this clear (to me anyway).

  • ITunes 10.6 and proxy server connection

    Hello,
I was using iTunes, in a network enviroment with a proxy server, since yesterday when I updated it to 10.6 version.
    Troubles began...
My IE settings about proxy server are correct, and my network admin did not change anything in out proxy configuration. Thus, I checked IE proxy settings, and they are ok (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1470). Restared my PC, but iTunes after the login to my proxy server (NOT with appleid of course but with my network account - and it's works, I'm sure about it) cannot go on, with a 12002 error.
So, IMHO iTunes 10.6 proxy support is broken...

Ok...here's a workaround for Windows based computers.  Not an ideal solution but it works. For those of you on a corporate network, I highly suggest you get this approved before you implement it.
You will need to download and install Cntlm Authentication Proxy. The link is...
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/cntlm/files/
Once installed...find the cntlm.ini file located in the c:\Program Files or c:\Program Files(x86) folder and open it with notepad. Modify the following lines to match your network/proxy configuration...
    Username
    Domain
    Password
    Proxy
Once you save the cntlm.ini file go to Services and start the Cntlm Authentication Proxy service...or you could simply restart the computer.
The last step is to configure your browser to use the following address as a proxy server...
127.0.0.1 port 3128 (3128 is the default listening port used by cntlm and can be changed in the cntlm.ini file)
As I said, this is not an ideal solution as your network username and password are stored in the cntlm.ini file as clear text and if you ever change your network password you will need to change the cntlm.ini file as well. This is also why I suggest that those of you on corporate networks get approval for this before you install since this is a potential security risk. But this does resolve the proxy authentication pop up issue with iTunes and for anyone attempting to use Dropbox and having similar proxy issues this solution works for Dropbox as well.

  • My iPhone gets a "web server proxy error" connecting to wifi @ home

Ever since installing Comcast Xfinity with Motorola SB6121 and Apple Extreme 5th generation, my iPhone 4 gets a web server proxy error or similar message for any apps seeking to go online.  My iPod Touch 3rd generation works as does my MacBook Pro.
I've reset the router, harangued Comcast (no help - it's your phone, sir), rebooted the iPhone, checked all my settings (VPN - what's that? it's not connected), Proxy in the VPN settings is set to off. The phone will show the signal and it will check Apple Mail but Safari, Google APP anything needing web access will either hang or give the proxy error message.  Apple Customer Care said call Comcast, Comcast said call Apple & I'm surprised to find little help on the web.
Here's what I found to work on a MacForum sight from 2 years ago.
    1.
Settings->WiFi->under choose a network, click the blue arrow (on the right of the network nameyou use)->DHCP
*now check the IP address with the one on your iPod Touch or computer to see if they are in sequence
*scroll down to HTTP Proxy & make sure it is off
         -> renew lease may work
It was the making sure the IP address was correct/in sequence which I moved to the STATIC tab and input all the same information (use a screen shot to remember it - home button and on/off button at the same time, it will store in your pictures folder) and give that a shot.
The problem appears to be where multiple machines or devices are using the same router. The iPhone 3GS assigned an IP Address in order of preference, therefore 192.175.1.1 and then 192.175.1.2 etc. The iPhone 4 will assign a strange IP address which the router will not accept. You therefore need to look at the other devices linked and see what number is next in the sequence. Then go to static on the top tab and type in the IP adress manually followed by the Subnet mask, router and DNS details. Once you have completed the info press the DHCP button and HTTP Proxy as off - this is important.
    2.
This is how i fixed the wifi problem...(i used my mac)
So basicly I created a new WiFi hotspot on my iMac, then I connected my iphone to it and it WORKS!
    1. open System Preferences (Apple -> System Preferences) and click Sharing.
    2. select Internet Sharing at the left side.
    3. Then check off AirPort.
    4. Then creat a newtwork name, and password
    5. VOILA! look at the Wifi connections on your iPhone and it should be there!
(IF YOU HAD ANY PROBLEMS GO TO THIS LINK..
    http://maketecheasier.com/create-wif...s-x/2009/10/20
THIS SITE SHOWS YOU HOW TO SET IT UP)
    3.
    reset Network
Same problem, but none of the above worked for me. Finally went to Settings/ General/ Reset/ Reset network settings. Saw this in a different thread.
    Hope these help.
    Cheers,
    cs

This has solved loads of people who have this issue and have used an alternate DNS setting.  Below are instructions for both iPhone OTA and on you Mac
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try an OTA (over the air update)
    Change DNS Servers
    Settings -> Wi-Fi
Click the blue arrow on your connected network
Delete everything in DNS and replace it with 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
    Try again
If this works, you will probably want to remove the WiFi network using "Forget This Network" and then reconnect to it to get your original DNS servers back. Alternatively, make a note of the original DNS servers before deleting them and replace it after you are done.
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try through iTunes
    On your Mac
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network.
Select the network connection service you want to use (such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet, unless you named it something else) from the list, and then click Advanced.
Click DNS, and then click Add at the bottom of the DNS Servers list. Enter the IPv4 address for the DNS server.
    You can use OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    or
You can Google Public DNS if you want
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4
I have actually repointed my routers DNS so all my devices now point to OpenDNS servers
