PSD file opens in viewer

Maybe simple...how do you get your PSD file to reveal layers in sequence and not in the viewer?

If your file is a layered PSD, it should appear in FCP's Browser as a sequence, and double-clicking it (in the Browser) should open that sequence in the Timeline.
(If you've placed the PSD into another sequence, double-clicking it in that sequence should open up the PSD as a sequence too)
But I sense neither is working for you?

I just upgraded from PS cs4 to cs6. All of my files open up viewing at .0625% - which is very irritating. How can I change this?

Are you on a Mac or PC?  If the former, do you have the Application Frame visible?
Could you post a screenshot of how Photoshop CS6 looks when you first open an image and have it show at the tiny size?
Chances are you've made the main Photoshop window small, which is causing it to try to fit a newly opened image in too small a space.
I'm going to make a wild guess that you're on a Mac, and have dragged the bottom edge of the Photoshop window up instead of turning off the Application Frame, so as to be able to see your desktop.

  • Why wont my psd files open from Bridge into Photoshop

When I try to double click on a psd file is Bridge, it opens in some other image viewer... not Photoshop.  Under File>Open With, there are a number of
possibilities, but none of them are PS.  There's Fire Fox, and Microsoft Mail and Painter X but not Photoshop.  I can open Raw files but not Psd's or
jepgs... What could possibly be wrong.  I cannot find a preferance I've marked incorrectly.

First, I have never made any changes to this area in Preferences.  When I saw the suggestion to check file associations in Bridge Pref., I looked  through the file asssociations and mostly I found listed  'none beside most types,' but beside Psd, Tiff, and Jpegs it said, "Explorer Settings."  Why in the heck would that be there?  I clicked on that and noticed I could direct a search through my computer for something else, so I when straight for Adobe and on to Photoshop Cs5, and clicked OK.  After that, I could open the psd's  in Photoshop and under File>Open With, PScs5 was listed now as the defautl... YEA!... But when I tried the same with jpegs, it didn't work.  I put in PHcs5, but they are opening in Camera Raw.  Now while I could want that option, I don't want that as a default.  I'm totally perplexed as to how this could be happening. I've been using Bridge since it was first introduced into PS, and I've never had a problem like this.   I hope someone who is more educated in this area will please shed some light on this for me.
I'm in an advanced Digital Imaging class, and I asked my all knowing teacher and she was confused as well.

  • Files open with view scaled to 1.6%

This is a new installation of CS6 on a new Macbook Pro running 10.8
When opening any file ... jpg, gif, png, or even existing psd files -- the window is shoved to the top-left-most corner with buttons and title bar hidden behind Photoshop's tool bars ... with the VIEW scale set to 1.6%.
1.6% means the actual image window is just a speck on the screen. Each time, I have to double-click the magnify tool, and then pull the corner down, and then move the window into position.
Can anyone suggest how I get Photoshop to open files correctly? Positioned correctly on the screen?
    Thanks

    Hi DTG,
Are you by chance resizing the photoshop window (application frame)?
On a mac the application frame is on by default and takes up the whole screen (or most of it) and the documents open as tabs inside the photoshop interface (application frame).
If you've ever used programs on a windows system, then that's what the application frame does.
If you want photoshop cs6 to act like a legacy application on your mac, you can go to Window and uncheck Application Frame.

  • Psd files finder column view

While the small icon of PSD files in the first column of column view in finder is correctly rendered, the bigger file view in the second column only renders the first channel of the PSD file (channel equalling saved selections).
Other than deleting the saved selections, does anybody have an idea how to circumvent this problem so that the bigger file icons are rendered in their entirety?

I found the solution: select ALL and then save that selection. Save the file, and voilà: the file icon renders the image in its entirety, and not just the first selection in the channel list.

  • Psd files open as blank

I downloaded a large number of sample photos in .psd format.  The psd files are about 60megs each.  The files open in CS5 Phootshop to what looks
like a blank image (light and dark checkerboard squares) possibly what you might expect if you started to create a new image. Does anyone have any
idea what this means, if the files are fakes, or if there is anything I can do to see what's inside?  Thanks in advance for any comments.

The freeware program IrfanView can open PSD files, though I believe it just opens the flattened preview.

  • File Open Default View

Using PhotoShop Elements 3, I would like the 'File Open' command to open with LIST VIEW, instead of 'Thumbnails'. Have not found a way to change the default to do this.

Just another amazing problem the MicroSoft will not fix. I prefer details view every time I open a file after just opening the application (e.g., MSWord, etc.), but every time I do this I have to manually select details view. I've tried everything to fix this short of purchasing 3rd party software to do it. I would guess I have done this 50,000 times (at my job) this year alone. But do you think Bill Gates cares that I wasted all of this time? You know the answer to that question. I just purchased a IMac for home (my 1st Apple computer since early 90's), and I'll never purchase another PC that is running the Microsoft operating system...

  • Smart Object .psd file opens in ACR, why?

In LR3.0, I select a .psd file in my catalog and do "edit in photoshop as a smart object".  Inside of photoshop, I double click on the layer or click "edit contents" of the smart object layer, it takes me to the ACR dialog.  Well, I do not want this dialog.  I just want to edit it as I would any other document inside of photoshop.  Smart objects created inside of photoshop to NOT behave this way.  Only lightroom psd files that are opened in photoshop as a smart object exhibit this "strange" behavior.  How can I edit the contents of these smart objects inside of photoshop and omit ACR?

Your application versions aren't in sync, so this just won't work I'm afraid: CS4 is (roughly) four years behind LR4 and the version of ACR that comes with PS CS4 (5.x - should be on 5.7) won't be able to interpret the edits you've carried out in LR4, assuming you're using the latest process version with the new slider controls.
Very surprised you're not getting any error messages or warnings though. Maybe you switched them off in Lightroom?

  • PSD files open sized at .148

I've used Photoshop since 1994 and I've never seen this:  when I open an existing file in PS4, it now opens at the tiniest possible display size, i.e., .148 percent.  I have to go up to the transport bar and use the pull down menu to enlarge it to a viewable size;  not a big deal, but annoying.
Can;t figure out why.........don't see a pref setting for it.....
    Anyone?  I'd be most gragteful......

I'm not sure what happened. I would suspect something with your system, hopefully not malware.
Run a Anti virus scan. Also do some disk maintenance, check disk, cleanup, and defrag.
You can rename the files with the correct extensions and see if they open.
Let's see. You don't have access to your discs, but you can download the installer:
    Download CS4 products
Have your serial number ready and if CS4 was an upgrade, the qualifying serial number.
You can these under the account you registered them under with Adobe.
    Usually here: https://www.adobe.com/account/my-products-services.html
If you uninstall the old CS4, use the Cleaner tool to remove any remnants.
Also checkmark "Remove Preferences" when uninstalling.
Do this all using your admin account.

  • File open pre-view audio? Mute/Silence while recording?

These 2 thing are totaly messing up my flow..... I Need to option of hearing thing before I open them...And I need to highlite and mute when recording voiceover... Killing me....

    Hi there,
Floating Windows all but disappeared with Logic 8 and many of us mourn their passing. Although some windows are, by default, floating (eg transport), the only one that you can choose to make float nowadays is the Environment, useful if you're setting up faders or some other real-time control.

  • Can not open .psd files in Photoshop!

I am using Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 (Macintosh 10.5.6). Files created in Photoshop are saved to disc as .psd. Next time upon opening (both double clicking file and opening from within Photoshop) message appears: ‘Could not complete your request because the file is empty’ (I can see the file and ‘look’ at it using space bar). Older .psd files open normally. I did start using Spaces a few days ago. Maybe that's the culprit? Any ideas?

That sounds like the files are corrupted.  I would be looking for disk problems.
And you really should be on MacOS 10.5.8 - they fix a lot of bugs with each dot release.

  • CS5 ACR opening PSD Files?

What file types won't ACR open?
I understand that ACR will not open layered images, but what about flat PSD files? When I Right Click on a PSD in bridge or mini bridge, open in camera raw is not an option. Command R, or file-->open with camera raw doesn't work either. Is it possible to open a PSD file with camera raw? From my tests 16 vs 8 bit  didn't make a difference, but should it?  Some of my friends have had trouble opening up Tiff files also. I know their preferences were correct.
Should Non layered tiff and PSD files open in ACR? What file types will ACR refuse to open?
And for extra credit...If a layered file opens in ACR are you only editing the background layer?
Thanks brilliant people of the internet!

    Not true.
You can open .PSD files with ACR.  From within Photoshop, choose File - Open As - Camera Raw, and note that .PSD files are being shown with the File Open dialog filter in force.
You have to have saved the PSD with the Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility setting so that Camera Raw can read the flattened composite preview that's saved in that mode.  Otherwise it will complain that the file-format module could not parse the file.  Camera raw will only open the composite.
PSD files saved with Maximize Compatibility are of course larger because of the flattened composite being included, but as the option says they're also more compatible.

  • .psd files not opening

I use Photoshope Elements 9 to do scrapbooking.  My desire is to us Dropbox so I can work on my laptop or on my destop.  All of my photos are on my laptop.
I moved some .jpg files, .mob files, and some .psd files to dropbox off of my laptop.  When I tried to open them on my desktop, the .jpg and .mov files were fine.  The .psd files opened the Photoshop Elements 9 program, but gav me the following message, "could not complete your request because Photoshop Elements does not recognize this type of file."
Since the file was made in Photoshop Elements 9, I'm wondfering why it won't open on my desktop when I send it by Dropbox.

It’s possible DropBox uses versioning or some form of compression on PSD files if they are a large size.

  • Photoshop cs6  .psd file extension

Hello,  if you create an image and it has a .psd file extension.  Do you have to download software to view the .psd file extension.  Or can if easily be converted to a .jpeg.  On my mac I can see the image.  At work a windows machine it's asking me to find a program that can view a .psd.  I was hoping to convert it to something that will open easily.   Thanks!

Here is what I did.  I took a picture from the internet and created a new file in photoshop.  Then I added some layers for background, and text.  Now, the image has 4 layers.  It's basically a banner for a title of a page.  It has a .psd format.  I emailed the photo to myself here at work.  I can not open the file.  What started this is:  If I use this new .psd file I have created and used it in dreamweaver.  When someone opens the webpage will that .psd file open for them to see the image?  This is why I have been thinking that I need to convert it to a different format.  I'm Sorry!  I hope this clears up what I am trying to do.  Thanks!
