PSE 7 Watch Folders

I am evaluating PSE 7 functionality for purchase to replace Google's poorly functional Picasa (constant high CPU).  In PSE 7, I have setup the Watch Folders (including subfolders), but the program isn't scanning/discovering anything.  As a test, I copied a picture into the root of the Watch Folders, and after (literally) 10 minutes it finally discovered it and added it into an album.
If there is more action required other than simply enabling the Watch Folders, then please let me know.  This is not a good first impression of Adobe software.  May just need to stick with open source software if the product cannot be reliable.

The .CR's are from different models.  XTi and T1i.
Have you downloaded and installed the most recent version of the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in?  The T1i requires ACR 5.4, while PSE 7 ships with ACR 4.5.   PSE gets squirrely if you try to work with raw files that aren't supported by the version of ACR you have installed.

  • Watch Folders and Network Drives

    Hello,
I'm trying to find a solution to this and it's driving me crazy. I would like to use a network drive as a watch folder in PSE. I have PSE3 and am curious if this has been fixed in PSE4 (which removes the network drive after you add it, which is very annoying).
I'm curious if anyone has gotten this to work through either using an NT domain account for the file service or any other solutions.
    Any ideas?

Well I finally figured out a way to get this working, but it's truly a pain. I moved all my machines into a domain and ran the "Adobe Active File Monitor" service under a domain account that has permissions on all shares I want to watch.
It doesn't seem to work with mapped drives - instead you have to go in through the network neighborhood, but it does work. At that point you can have PSE watch folders pick up changes on a network share.

  • Where is the 'Watch Folders' option in PSE 9 Organizer for Mac?

I'm sure it's right in front of my face, but I can't find it. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for your replies. Bob, thanks to you especially for your candor. I use Adobe products for both photography and graphic design. I have been a loyal PSE user since PSE 4, but I use Photoshop (started out with CS2, now up to CS5) for all of my editing. I only use PSE for my digital asset management. The reason I need watched folders is that any new files I create in CS5 are not automatically added to my catalog in PSE. I switched to a Mac 3 years ago and wasn't happy with any of the alternatives, so I have been using PSE for Mac since version 9. However, over the years, I have found that I don't always remember to go back into the PSE catalog to import after working on something in CS5, so my catalog is always missing some files. I have found a watched folder plugin for Lightroom that seems to work pretty seamlessly in the background, but I found Lightroom not nearly as intuitive to use when I bought LR2 a few years back. Plus, facial recognition is a big feature for me, and LR4 still lacks that. I guess that, for Mac users, there's really no one solution that works as well as PSE does for Windows users.
I guess I'll have to continue my search...Thanks again for your replies!

  • Watch Folders - Not Watching  PSE 5

I have one of my folders checked as a watched folder but it's not working.
I have checked the box "WATCH FOLDERS AND THEIR SUB-FOLDERS FOR NEW FILES" as well as the box "WHEN NEW FILES ARE FOUND IN WATCHED FOLDERS: NOTIFY ME"
I've added a new folder to the watched folder with some photos and the program does not notify me that new photos need to be added.
I've restarted the computer and re-started PSE a few times to no avail.
Additionally, the Adobe Active File Monitor service is active.
Note that this has worked once or twice since enabling the option, but not anymore.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

    I am using Win7 64.
I don't see anything in that FAQ about watch folders per se, it is talking about downloading pictures but I don't think that's quite the same thing.  It mentions that the service does not start up, however I can see the pse "file monitor" service running on my machine, so I think these are two separate things we're talking about.

  • Watched Folders PSE 8

I have installed PSE 8 and cannot get Organizer to update catalogue from the watched folder. If I add the folder to the watched folders list I get the little eye symbol ok. When I restart the program the eye disappears. I am running windows 7. What am I doing wrong.

I don't use a password to login to my computer as Doug. If I leave the password boxes blank it comes up with a login error
Windows often requires accounts to have passwords if you want to access other resources.   Try temporarily giving your account a password and then seeing if having Active File Monitor service running as you fixes the problem (Start > Control Panel > User Accounts to change your password).  If that works, then you can leave the password on your account and configure Windows to log you in automatically when you boot:

  • PSE 8 Watch Folders (Elements Organiser)

    Good day to you all.
I've been working with GIMP a lot, but due to several reasons I purchased PSE8 & PRE8 recently.
As I'm Dutch and I want my children to be able to use the SW, I installed the Dutch version.
Now, there's a problem with Watch Folders (Dutch: Mappen controleren).
I've been reading about this on the forum, but nobody seems to have 'my problem'.
When I choose Bestand/Mappen Controleren... (Eng. File/Watch Folders...) I get a message box: 'De service map controleren is niet beschikbaar'
Even entering this (quoted) sentence in Google leaves me with no results at all.
In English this would be: 'The service Watch Folders is not available'.
On the forum I found the hint to check the "Adobe Active File Monitor" Service.
But within that list I cannot find that service, or even a look-alike.
At ElementsVillage I read that a re-installation with A/V (I have AVG) turned of would do the trick...
Is there anybody her who may direct me further to the solution?
    Thanks a lot.

Reinstalling with anti-virus turned off didn't fix it?  If not, then see this message:

  • Can you set up watch folders on PSE 12 on a mac?

Do you have to do this manually when you add new photos? On Picasa there were watch folders and every time you added a photo to it, it would synch with the organizer... I wasn't thinking this was a downgrade when I purchased it.

Watch folders is a Windows only feature.

As of June 2010 I no longer maintain this FAQ. I’ve migrated to Lightroom 3, which I use for all my organizing and most of my editing (I still use the Photoshop Elements Editor for more involved editing).  Adobe has clearly decided not to invest sufficient resources for properly maintaining the Photoshop Elements Organizer– see my Amazon review of PSE 8. Lightroom is marketed to professionals and prosumers with tens of thousands of photos who demand adequate organizational capabilities, whereas Photoshop Elements is marketed to consumers, most of whom do not want or use the Organizer.
This page captures my answers to frequent questions about Photoshop Elements 6, 7, and 8 (Windows).  It’s mostly about the Organizer, since I know the Organizer much better than the Editor.
The versions to which each FAQ applies are indicated with the notation [PSE 6, 7, 8]. If I’m not sure whether something applies to a version, it will be indicated with a question mark, e.g. [PSE 7, 8?].

  • Watched folders aren't watched!

I have a main folder (and sub-folders) for my images selected but even though I know new images have been added to the folder PSE does not load them.  I can get them by using Get .. from files and folders, but why doesn't PSE actually watch the folders?
Does PSE have to be running when photos are added?  Shouldn't it inspect Watched Folders when launched and add photos that weren't there the last time it ran?

OK, it’s much the same in PSE6 except the watch folder should have an eye icon.
You can right click on your custom location folder in the left hand panel and then choose Add To watch Folders.
You can also right click on individual sub folders and choose Add Unmanaged Files to catalog.

  • Watch Folders problem

I can't get Adobe PSE 11 to use Watch Folders. Clicking File > Watch Folders just brings up a message, saying make sure the service is started. I do this - and find that it is!
Can someone please advise how I can get this going?
    Neville

Are you the admin user of your machine?
If not, then you need to go to Services, Right click on the service corresponding to "Adobe Active File Monitor V11" >> Properties >> Log on tab. Select 'This account' option and enter your credentials.
See if doing so makes watched folders work.
    if it still gives an issue then try with the new catalog;
Create a new catalog by using File >> Catalog >> New option.
then try the watch folder in the new catalog.

  • Watch Folders - unavailable

I am new to Elements (8).   I wanted to make sure that and new photos that I add to my computer would automatically go onto PSE.    From what I have read, I should click 'Watch Folders' and choose the folder that contains my pics.
When I tried this, is says that Services are unavailable.   I checked the Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services, and Adobe is not in there.
    Any ideas?

Unfortunately, I cannot do anything at the moment because HP laptop is packed up, ready for them to pick it up for the on-going microphone repair (this is the 3rd time), and my other laptop is with my husband in Austria at the moment.
Which ever one gets here first, I will try as you suggest, and get back to you.
    Thanks

  • Watched Folders

    Hi All,
This is my first post and would be most grateful for any help your can offer. I am using PSE 7 and all of a sudden new photographs are not being recognised despite not having made any changes to my watched folders.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Many thanks for your reply. I checked what you suggested and all looks okay. For some reason PSE seems to recognise single photo uploads only!
    Any thoughts?

  • Watched Folders Eyeballs Disappear

I am working in PSE8 on a machine with Win7.  I have marked several folders as Watched Folders, but the gray eyes disappear everytime I reboot the computer or restart PSE8.  I found another thread on this subject (John R. Ellis) that suggested setting the logon properties of Adobe Active File Monitor V8 to "This Account" with a user name and password, then stopping and restarting AAFMV8.  I get to the point where I try to restart the service and I get an error message: "Error 1069, The service did not start due to a logon failure."  What am I doing wrong?  I'm afraid to close the dialogs and reboot/logon without restarting the AAFMV8 service first, as the directions were clear on that point.  BTW, I do not now have to log onto my computer, but would be more than willing to do that if it fixes the watched folders problem.   John, are you there?  Please help!

My thinking on the catalogs is that when I download pics, I will want to divvy them up among at least two catalogs.  Thus, when I download them to a Download catalog, I can move each pic to its appropriate catalog and then delete it from the Download catalog once the pic's properties show that it is in the proper catalog.
I misspoke in a previous message.  The PSE photo downloader always imports the photos you've downloaded from a camera into a catalog.  However, you could use the Windows Live Photo Gallery downloader instead to download the photos into a folder of your choosing, and that folder (or folders) could be watched by various of your catalogs.   WLPG is the version you download for free from Microsoft, much better than the Windows Photo Gallery (sic) built into Vista.
Regarding your musing about albums versus tags: The major difference between albums and tags is that albums let you change the order of the photos within an album, while with tags you can only show the tagged photos in date-taken order or by filename.  However, albums have a number of mostly arbitrary restrictions on what you can do with them in PSE.  In general, you should use a tags rather than albums except for those circumstances where you are doing some kind of project and want a specific order for your photos different than date-taken.
Using tags seems much more time-consuming since I would need to tag each photo with 2 to 5 tags.  Also, with albums I can see how I have categorized each group of photos and I can pull up exactly the ones I want to see.
If you created a tag instead of an album, you'd have the same number of tags as you currently have albums.  If you check the box next to a tag in the Organize pane, then you'll see exactly those photos with that tag.  An advantage of tags over albums is that it's much easier to combine multiple tags in searches -- e.g. find all photos with the tag "Hawaii Trip 2008" and the tag "John Ellis".
Regarding the several screenfuls of albums and tags in the Organize pane, you can organize albums and tags into heirarchical categories and subcategories, to make it easier to manage and find the albums and tags.   I have about 500 tags organized in that way.

  • Use AME watch folders with preset ContentAnalysis

I have to do speech recognition on a number of files. The AME watch folders do exactly what I want - automatically processing files put into a specific folder. But I am unable to select "ContentAnalysis" as my preferred preset, which seems to be the requirement for AME doing speech recognition. Is there any possibility to let the watch folders do speech recognition for me, like AME does if I select "Analyze" in Premiere Pro?

  • Convert ps to pdf  - watched folders process one at a time ?

does the destiller server process the watched folders one at a time or it can process several depending on the license?
i have the "normal" distiller and i have this problem, if a huge file is being converted, the other files from watched folders are not converted.

I think I found my answer at a different set of instuctions at http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat-com/kb/using-createpdf.html.  This set of instructions clearly indicates that files will be selected 1 at a time.
    Click Combine Files To PDF.
    Click Select Files.
Select one of the files that you want to combine.
    Click Open.
Click Add Files and select additional files to combine. Click Open."
If anyone has any ideas on how to more quickly combine files, any help would be greatly appreciated.
