PSE 8 useful for mostly organizer function?

I have PhotoShop Elements 5.0 installed on a system I administer. The user mostly uses PSE 5 for its photo organizer function. I don't think she does much photo editing. Probably very little.
She has over 20,000 photos, taking up over 60 GBs in space. Performance seems very poor to me, especially using the back up catalog feature. Even if she has only added 30 or 40 pictures since the last incremental back up, it takes 15 or 20 minutes to just get the back up started.
I thought that upgrading from PSE 5 to PSE 8 would help. But, now I just saw several reviews that said the *organizer* performance was even worse in PSE 7 and PSE 8 than earlier versions.
Any comments on that? Should I not do an upgrade?
Any other suggestions?

A catalog with 20000 images will take a while to back up, even if it is an incremental, because each time PSE does a backup, it "recovers" the catalog ... basically, it shrinks the catalog down (compressing unused space, if any) and verifies its integrity by making sure there are no disconnected photos.
So ... a better option might be to use Windows based backup tools, if you are careful enough to back up photos and catalog file.
I don't have PSE8 so I can't comment on its performance.

Hi,
The names 'ENQUEUE_EIQMEL' and 'DEQUEUE_EIQMEL ' you have mentioned are itself the function modules. Which other FM's you need i didnt understand.
These are FM to ahndle lock objects 'QMEL'.

Business Add-In is a new SAP enhancement technique based on ABAP Objects.
They can be inserted into the SAP system based on specific user requirements.
Each Business Add-In has:
at least one Business Add-In definition
a Business Add-In interface
a Business Add-In class that implements the interface
In order to enhance a program, a Business Add-In must first be defined
Subsequently two classes are automatically generated:
An interface with IF_EX_ inserted between the first and second characters of the BADI name.
An adapter class with CL_EX_ inserted between the first and second characters of the BADI name.
The Application developer creates an interface for this Add-In.
There are multiple ways of searching for BADI.
Finding BADI Using CL_EXITHANDLER=>GET_INSTANCE
Finding BADI Using SQL Trace (TCODE-ST05).
Finding BADI Using Repository Information System (TCODE- SE84).
1. Go to the Transaction, for which we want to find the BADI, take the example of Transaction VD02. Click on System->Status. Double click on the program name. Once inside the program search for CL_EXITHANDLER=>GET_INSTANCE.
Make sure the radio button In main program is checked. A list of all the programs with call to the BADIs will be listed.
The export parameter EXIT_NAME for the method GET_INSTANCE of class CL_EXITHANDLER will have the user exit assigned to it. The changing parameter INSTANCE will have the interface assigned to it. Double click on the method to enter the source code.Definition of Instance would give you the Interface name.
2. Start transaction ST05 (Performance Analysis).
Set flag field "Buffer trace"
Remark: We need to trace also the buffer calls, because BADI database tables are buffered. (Especially view V_EXT_IMP and V_EXT_ACT)
Push the button "Activate Trace". Start transaction VA02 in a new GUI session. Go back to the Performance trace session.
Push the button "Deactivate Trace".
Push the button "Display Trace".
The popup screen "Set Restrictions for Displaying Trace" appears.
Now, filter the trace on Objects:
V_EXT_IMP
V_EXT_ACT
Push button "Multiple selections" button behind field Objects
Fill: V_EXT_IMP and V_EXT_ACT
All the interface class names of view V_EXT_IMP start with IF_EX_. This is the standard SAP prefix for BADI class interfaces. The BADI name is after the IF_EX_.
So the BADI name of IF_EX_CUSTOMER_ADD_DATA is CUSTOMER_ADD_DATA
3. Go to Maintain Transaction (TCODE- SE93).
Enter the Transaction VD02 for which you want to find BADI.
Click on the Display push buttons.
Get the Package Name. (Package VS in this case)
Go to TCode: SE84->Enhancements->Business Add-inns->Definition
Enter the Package Name and Execute.
Here you get a list of all the Enhancement BADIs for the given package MB.

A BAPI is remotely enabled function module ie it can be invoked from remote programs like standalone JAVA programs, web interface etc..
You can make your function module remotely enabled in attributes of Function module but
A BAPI are standard SAP function modules provided by SAP for remote access. Also they are part of Businees Objest Repository(BOR).
BAPI are RFC enabled function modules. the difference between RFc and BAPI are business objects. You create business objects and those are then registered in your BOR (Business Object Repository) which can be accessed outside the SAP system by using some other applications (Non-SAP) such as VB or JAVA. in this case u only specify the business object and its method from external system in BAPI there is no direct system call. while RFC are direct system call Some BAPIs provide basic functions and can be used for most SAP business object types. These BAPIs should be implemented the same for all business object types. Standardized BAPIs are easier to use and prevent users having to deal with a number of different BAPIs. Whenever possible, a standardized BAPI must be used in preference to an individual BAPI.

U need to give the step_nr, item_nr, cond_count and cond_type so the correct conditon will be updated. If no condition exists for the given parameters, a new condition will be created.

Hello again. When I said PSE 12 was an upgrade on CS2, I meant that simply from an informal point of view - and it is: it's better software in most respects. In expert mode, the features and functions are much the same as in the CS2 I had before, but enhanced and slicker. Less 16 bit colour depth and a few other things of course. Unfortunately, as it now transpires, the "few other things" has turned out to include the measuring feature.
Thanks for the work-around - only problem is ... to what Info Panel are you referring when using the line tool? I've looked around but can't see the line length being shown anywhere. Thanks in advance for any light you might be able to cast on it.
Incidentally, I upgraded my written-off Canon D5 MK II with a D6. To me it's an upgrade - it's a much better camera - though by the letter of the law, the strict upgrade path would be to a 5D MK III. One can use the word "upgrade" in this informal (but entirely meaningful) sense, I hope, without being sent to prison!!

Does Adobe offer just the PSE 11 Editor without the Organizer? I use Lightroom to manage my photos.

I no longer use the organizer but use Lightroom 4. However I would like to upgrade to PSE 11 without installing or paying for the organizer.

The Organizer is part and parcel of the installation and of PSE's coding. After Install you can ignore the Organizer and just use the Editor. This what I do...Lr 4.2 is my DAM and raw convertor, and for any further adjustments I send images across to PSE11 Editor.
The price is what it is...includes both Organizer and Editor, and there is no way of separating these 2 components, and therefore there is only either the upgrade pricing or new pricing for the program, as a whole.

Unable to use MSN Premium for the Share function within Elements 10

I'm unable to use MSN Premium for the Share function within Elements 10 (it seems the program does not recognize MSN Premium for a valid email program for use within the Share function of Elements 10). Is this something than can be resolved?

No, unfortunately. You will have to either set up the adobe email or else just use the attachments button in the MSN premium instead of sending directly from PSE.

Building an AppCloud App for use within your organization only.

I am trying to get more details on how to Build/Register "Private" AppCloud Apps and confirm at design time that we can deploy our in-house AppCloud Apps on several of our Eloqua instances without publishing them.
My assumption is that one would setup the App under the Provider section for each of the Eloqua instances so that each Eloqua Instance can see and install our our in-house private app and use it without publishing. I worry about this method because it give the impression the AppCloud App is in development or testing.
Or
I was hoping there was some way to officially register our app so we are using a production workflow but our app is not published or listed anywhere?

Hi Scott,
The best practice here would be for you to:
1. Register as a Provider in a development instance of Eloqua.
2. Build out your app and Register it, along with your Service(s) under that Provider.
3. Whitelist any Eloqua client installs that you wish to allow to use your App. Do this by clicking the Publish to Another Site button.
4. Give the App install URL (found at the bottom of the App Details page under Catalog) to any of those clients that you whitelisted to use your app.
This way, only those clients that you've specified will be able to install and use your App, and it's not listed anywhere. You could also click the Publish to App Cloud button, which simply whitelists every install. The App will never actually be listed anywhere, as there is not yet a mechanism in the framework to do this. The only way to find and install your App is by using that install URL, so you'd have to give it out.
If you are a client that is building an App for use within your organization, you could also use your company's Eloqua install to register your provider, but as a development partner, your developer instance is intended to be used to register and manage your services.

Can DAQmxRegisterEveryNSamplesEvent function be used for the Counter Input Channels

I have an application to count the digitial pulse number. I want to know the time of the coming pulses which start from 1 and increased 4 later, like 1, 5, 9, 13..... The time interval between each pulse is not a fixed value. So I tried to use DAQmxRegisterEveryNSamplesEvent and DAQmxCreateCICountEdgesChan functions. But afterI called the DAQmxStartTask function, it always failed. The board I used is the NI-PCIe-6320. Here is part of my code.

What's I what to do is that I have an external digital signal, when the signal goes from low to high, I need do some operations. So I just want to know the time when the digital signal goes from low to high. The frequency of the digital signal is from 0 - 20000Hz. My first plan is to use a counter to count the pulse rising edges. When the number of edge increases one, I do the designed operations. In this method, I can't guarantee I can catch each pulse rising point. Because sometimes the counter will increase more than one in the on-demand mode. For example, the previous content of the counter is xxxx4, but the next reading the content may become xxxx6.
After I learned some ANSI C codes, I found that the ChangeDetectionEvent can help me found time when the signal goes from low to high. So I wrote the following code: (I set the digital signal to P0.0)

Yesterday I used this method to get the pulse rising time. I found the m_event_num is close to the ground truth (In the simulation, I know how may rising pulse I generated). In one two hours test, the offset is almost 400 pulses. But today I did the same tests again. I found the m_event_num got a big difference from the ground truth. The voltage of the whole system today maybe smaller than yesterday, because today the power is from an invertor while yesterday the power is from the electricity supply. So will the lower voltage supply will causing some event missing. Or if PC system became busy will ignore some callings of the event callback function? That's two possible reason will affact the final result. I am not sure. Do you have any experience about this problem. Or do you have some better suggestion to get the pulse rising time. Using the new EPMDriverBasedRefresh function for What-if Analysis

Hi,
A new function is available that supposedly enables easy what-if modelling in BPC. This sounds great because currently for what-if analysis, you need to duplicate data in the database (using differnet categories or data sources) which can be time consuming and impact overall performance.
Has anyone got any experience with this EPMDriverBasedRefresh function? There is some documentation on SAP's userguide but there are no specifics on the type of logic that is supported for scenario outputs i.e. is it only Member Formula Logic (Account 1 x Account 2 = Account 3), or can it support more complex scenarios such as running through Default Logic (and any BAdIs you may have) to retrieve the modelled output? (This would be awesome!)

"This function enables you to refresh specific rows or columns of one or more reports, based on a specified range of data drivers whose values you can modify.

My testing has found that it does not run default logic (where our driver-based calculation BAdI is called).
Any experience from fellow SDNers would be much apprecited! Otherwise I'll put a call into SAP to get the documentation expanded a little.

How can I get INSTID_B for the documents which are stored using Store Business Document functionality

I had activated the functionality of Store Business document and successfully stored documents in external server.
My client have a custom function module which is used to send emails.In that FM they used SO_DOCUMENT_READ_API1, SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1 function modules.They passed Instance Ident(SRGBTBREL->INSTID_B)(eg: FOL33000000000004EXT39000000000026) as export parameter to the FM 'SO_DOCUMENT_READ_API1' and get the attachment details and content.
Here my problem is I do not have entries in the table SRGBTBREL for the documents which are stored using the Store Business Document functionality and without INSTID_B I am unable to use the FM 'SO_DOCUMENT_READ_API1' to get the document details and content. Please help me to find INSTID_B for documents which are stored using Store Business Document functionality or please let me know if there is any other way to use FM 'SO_DOCUMENT_READ_API1' for documents which are stored using Store Business Document.

You can use the following method to get the information. For example if you want to get BO documents for a customer
CALL METHOD cl_binary_relation=>read_links
   EXPORTING
     is_object           = ls_lpor
     it_relation_options = lt_relat
   IMPORTING
     et_links            = lt_links.
then fill ls_por-instid with a customer number (KUNNR), ls_por-typeid = 'KNA1' and ls_por-catid = 'BO'.
Table lt_relat should contain a line option for each document type (for example 'I' 'EQ' 'NOTE', 'I' EQ 'ATTA', 'I' EQ 'URL', ...
In table lt_links you will get your information.
Maybe some other methods of class CL_BINARY_RELATION may also solve your issue.

Elements 12 Organizer crashes every time I try to use the Photo Mail function. Has anyone else come across this bug?

I highlight the photos I want to share, go to Photo Mail, select the addressees and press "Next". I then get the error message: "Elements Organizer has stopped working" and I have to close the program down.
This is obviously a bug in the program and needs fixing. Has anyone else encountered it and found a solution. (I might add that the same crash happens if I try to use the "Email attachments" function.)

Are you running on a Windows system?
If so, use the windows explorer to navigate to one of the following files according to your system.
64bit system: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 12 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"
32bit system: "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Elements 12 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"
Right click on that file and select Run as Administrator then try your email again.
You should only have to do this once.
