Publish PL SQL Function as Webservice

JDeveleoper: 10.1.3.5
Oracle SOA Suite: 10.1.3.5
DB: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
I need a suggestion in publishing a Pl SQL Function or Procedure as a webservice:
I want to return a SQL Resultset. What would be e prefered way:
using sys_refcursor or plsql array as return parameter?
What are the advantages and disadvantages?
Thank you in advice!

Hi Frank,
thank you for the quick response.
The publishing woorks fine. I've created a function which return a sys_refcursor.
But when do the cursor get closed, how to handle that?
To avoid the problem with closing cursor, would it be better to deal with pl sql arrays as return types?
Thank you!

  • XMLType schema detail lost in pl/sql function for a jdeveloper webservice

    If I write a very simple pl/sql procedure to wrap as a web service to return the XML from an XMLtype table column, the jdeveloper (11.1.1.3) web service generation process seems to ignore the detail
    of the registered XMLTypes' schema, and converts the 'output' to an xsd:string in the generated WSDL file, which has knock on effect that generated data controls are 'dumb' in only seeing output as a string, and providing no real data functionality at XML schema level. Since I know web service data controls work fine when provided with the correct level of detail in the WSDL, what am I missing in terms of pursuading jdeveloper to generate wsdl's with full xsd schema info for the return XMLType?

  • Publish a plsql code as webservice without using JDEVELOPER or APEX

    Hi All,
    I am looking into how can we publish a PLSQL code as web-service without using JDEV OR APEX.
    When I google for this one I can see only by using JDEV or APEX we can publish Code as a web-service.
    Is there any way in oracle, just by using simple PLSQL packages we can publish code as a webservice.
    Appreciate your response.
    Thanks,
    MK.

    Apex does not publish PL/SQL code as web services. It is a web run-time and development framework. Something totally different.
    To turn a PL/SQL function into a web service is simple. You use the orawsv servlet in XDB - without making a single code change to the function. It will not even know it is called as a web service.
    To use orawsv, two basic steps. Configure and enable the servlet (raw HTTP/HTTPS connections will be handled by the Listener). This also entails enabling shared server in the database, if not already enabled. The 2nd step is to allow the function to be executed (via a HTTP call) as a web service, via granting specific roles.
    orawsv handles the HTTP call. It provides the WSDL. It parses SOAP envelopes as input. It makes the call (as a standard PL/SQL call), to the function being used as a web service. It returns the results of the PL/SQL function call, as a SOAP envelope output.

  • Jdeveloper 11g R2 problem when publishing PL\SQL Web Service

    Hi Guys,
    I have been banging my head against the wall for the past few days trying to publish pl\sql package as a web service on a weblogic 10.3 but I keep running into the same problem.
    PL\SQL Package Source below
    create type dept_type as object
    (deptno NUMBER,
    dname VARCHAR2(50),
    loc varchar2(13),
    cr_date date)
    create type dept_list_table is table of dept_type
    purge recyclebin;
    create or replace package ws_package as
    procedure test_dept_table (pout out dept_list_table);
    end ws_package;
    show errors;
    create or replace package body ws_package as
    procedure test_dept_table (pout out dept_list_table) is
    all_depts dept_list_table := dept_list_table();
    dRecType dept_type;
    i number := 0;
    begin
    -- iterate through all depts
    for r_list in (select * from dept) loop
    i := i + 1;
    dRecType := dept_type(null, null, null, null);
    dRecType.deptno := r_list.deptno;
    dRecType.dname := r_list.dname;
    dRecType.loc := r_list.loc_id;
    dRecType.cr_date := sysdate;
    pout.extend;
    pout(i) := dRecType;
    end loop;
    end test_dept_table;
    end ws_package;
    show errors;
    I go and create PL\SQL Web Service using default settings in Jdeveloper 11g R2 but when I try and test this page I get the following response:
    Failed to invoke end component servqa.MyWebService1User (POJO), operation=testDeptTable -> Failed to invoke method -> java.sql.SQLException: ORA-06550: line 1, column 13: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'TEST_DEPT_TABLE' ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PL/SQL: Statement ignored
    Anyone have any idea what the problem may be? Your help would be much appreceated!
    Bojan

    Hi Frank,
    I think the problem is in any procedure that has a COMPLEX TYPE as OUT parameter. So even if you strip down the procedure to just do nothing I still get the error as described in my top post. Passing complex parameters as IN parameter work fine its only when I have procedure with complex out when it errors. I also tried function that returns object parameter and that works fine too so not sure why this doesnt?
    create or replace package body ws_package as
    procedure test_dept_table (pout out dept_list_table) is
    begin
    -- iterate through all depts
    for r_list in (select * from dept) loop
    i := i + 1;
    end loop;
    end test_dept_table;
    end ws_package;
    Not sure if I am meant to do anything extra before I generate Web Service using JDeveloper if my procedure has got PL\SQL types as OUT parameters but as far as I know JDeveloper should do all the type conversions for you??
    Thanks
    Bojan

  • Calling a PL/SQL function from java

    I would like to call a pl/sql function from java. My pl/sql function is taking arrays of records as parameters. How do i proceed? Which specific oracle packages do I have to import?
    Please send an example.
    TIA,
    Darko Guberina

    Documentation here: http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/java.101/b10983/datamap.htm#sthref185
    says JPublisher can publish records too.
    But when I change the example given at http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/java.101/b10983/datamap.htm#sthref190 as following:
    PACKAGE "COMPANY" AS
    type emp_rec is record (empno number, ename varchar2(10));
    type emp_list is varray(5) of emp_rec;
    type factory is record (
    name varchar(10),
    emps emp_list
    function get_factory(p_name varchar) return factory;
    END;
    then I see <unknown type or type not found> at sql or java files generated. Any ideas?

  • Publish PL/SQL procedures as web services?

    I am investigating JDeveloper for possible use in a project we are starting. We already have existing PL/SQL Procedures that we want to use and I have done a prototype using XSQL and OWA in JDeveloper 9i Candidate version. I am trying to figure out what the changes and improvements are in the most recent version of JDeveloper. On this page http://technet.oracle.com/products/jdev/htdocs/jdev903_fo.html#web_services it says there is broader support for Publishing PL/SQL procedures as web services. Is there any more information out there on this? What exactly has been improved and what are the current limitations. I did find some documentation in the Oracle9i Application Server Developers Guide on the limitations (release 2 (9.0.2) http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/A97329_01/web.902/a95453/plsqlservices.htm#1030066 Do I assume this is the same limitations for JDeveloper since the Oracle9iAS included with it? I am getting confused by all this documentation.
    Thanks for any help
    Natalie

    Natalie,
    Please take a look at the tutorials on
    http://otn.oracle.com/tech/webservices/database.html
    Also, read the Web Service discussion forum where you will find some useful hints. Using 9.2.x DB, OC4J 9.0.4 and JDev9.0.3.1 it is really funny to start publishing PL/SQL as Web Service.

    XSL has many native string manipulation functions so you do not need to use our SQL functions when a native XSL one will do:
    <?if:substring(normalize-space(../fsg:ColContext[2]/fsg:ColHeadLine2),1,3)='SEP'?>September<?end if?>
    See that dang normalize space function again ... had to use it on my FSG sample.
    Would it not be easier to either:
    1. Have the FSG generate the September YYYY format or
    2. Have FSG generate XSD date formats, 'YYYY-MM-DD', then you can just specify the date format in the form fields

    I have Oracle 8.1.7 AS and 9i JDeveloper running on Windows 2000. I'm trying to run the "Publish PL/SQL as a Web Service" example, but am encountering errors I believe are related to my hostname/IP address/DNS entry. Of course, I could be wrong.
    Here is some information:
    ==========================================================
    1. I was able to successfully initialize Containers for J2EE. However, when I was trying to deploy the PL/SQL example, it inserted this information:
    C:\oracle\jdev9i\j2ee\home>C:\oracle\jdev9i\jdk\bin\java.exe -jar C:\oracle\jdev9i\j2ee\home\oc4j.jar
    Node started with id=-1753996682
    Oracle9iAS (9.0.3.0.0) Containers for J2EE initialized
    Error updating application PLSQL-PLSQL-WS: Error loading web-app 'WebServices' at
    C:\oracle\jdev9i\j2ee\home\applications\PLSQL-PLSQL-WS\WebServices:
    resource-ref 'jdbc/testCoreDS' referenced from resource-ref-mapping not found
    ==========================================================
    2. I went through the instructions from the website, and when I began the deployment process it generated this information:
    ---- Deployment started. ---- Jan 17, 2003 1:20:27 PM
    Wrote WAR file to C:\oracle\jdev9i\jdev\plsql-webexample\Project1\WebSe[i]Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time.

    Couple of suggestions despite your post being cut off with what might be useful information (please post the rest if these suggestions don't help):
    1. There are some bugs with Personal Oracle and Web services, notably Oracle9i Personal that may apply also to 8.1.7. If you have a MetaLink account it is logged as bug 2591731.
    2. As you are using your local machine, make sure your proxies are turned off (Tools-Preferences Web Browser/Proxy)
    3. I've noticed problems when folks use a JDK with a version lower than 1.3.1_02 to run OC4J - it is certified only with 1.3.1_02 or higher. If you are using the built-in JDeveloper JDK to start up OC4J (e.g. <Jdev_home>\jdk\bin\java.exe) you should be fine. But if you are just typing in java -jar oc4j.jar it is worth checking. Check the your default JDK version by typing in: java -version. If it is lower, then download a new version from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/download.html.
    4. For level setting it is best to be using build 1035 of JDeveloper, the current production release and either the OC4J embedded in it or the stand-alone version here on OTN.
    Hope these point in the right direction.
    Mike.

  • Report- Pl/sql function returning sql query parsing page items as text?

    Hi Team,
    I am facing a strange issue .
    I have four page items namely
    1)JOB_CODE
    2)MIN_EXP
    3) MAX_EXP
    4) SOURCES1
    I have a report of the type "Pl/sql function returning sql query"
    declare
    v_sql varchar2(4000);
    begin
    if (:JOB_CODE IS NOT NULL and :MIN_EXP IS NOT NULL and :MAX_EXP IS NOT NULL and :SOURCES1 IS NOT NULL) then
    v_sql:= 'select v_candidate_id, v_fname,v_current_employer,v_Experience_years from candidature where V_REQUIREMENT = :JOB_CODE and v_experience_years >= :MIN_EXP and v_experience_years <= :MAX_EXP and source like ' || '''' || '%'|| ':SOURCES1' || '%' || '''';
    elsif (:JOB_CODE IS NULL and :MIN_EXP IS NOT NULL and :MAX_EXP IS NOT NULL and :SOURCES1 IS NOT NULL) then
    v_sql := 'select v_candidate_id, v_fname,v_current_employer,v_Experience_years from candidature where v_experience_years >= :MIN_EXP and v_experience_years <= :MAX_EXP and source like ' || '''' || '%'|| ':SOURCES1' || '%' || '''';
    elsif (:MIN_EXP IS NULL and :JOB_CODE IS NOT NULL and :MAX_EXP IS NOT NULL and :SOURCES1 IS NOT NULL) then
    v_sql := 'select v_candidate_id, v_fname,v_current_employer,v_Experience_years from candidature where v_experience_years <= :MAX_EXP and V_REQUIREMENT = :JOB_CODE and source like ' || '''' || '%'|| ':SOURCES1' || '%' || '''';
    elsif (:MAX_EXP is null and :JOB_CODE IS NOT NULL and :MIN_EXP IS NOT NULL and :SOURCES1 IS NOT NULL) then
    v_sql := 'select v_candidate_id, v_fname,v_current_employer,v_Experience_years from candidature where V_REQUIREMENT = :JOB_CODE and v_experience_years >= :MIN_EXP and source like ' || '''' || '%'|| ':SOURCES1' || '%' || '''';
    end if;
    insert into query_list values (v_sql);
    insert into debug values (:JOB_CODE , :MIN_EXP , :MAX_EXP , :SOURCES1);
    return v_sql;
    end;
    Please not that I am insertin the query into a table called Query_list and the page item values into the table called Debug thru the pl/sql function which returns teh query.
    Now I select the data from the debug tables.
    select unique(query) from query_list;
    select v_candidate_id, v_fname,v_current_employer,v_Experience_years from candidature where V_REQUIREMENT = :JOB_CODE and v_experience_years >= :MIN_EXP and v_experience_years <= :MAX_EXP and source like '%:SOURCES1%'
    select * from debug;
    JOBCODE     MINEX     MAXEX     SOURCE
    21     1     10     donkeyHire
    And if I run the query in sql I get some records returned
    select v_candidate_id, v_fname,v_current_employer,v_Experience_years from candidature where V_REQUIREMENT = 21 and v_experience_years >= 1 and v_experience_years <= and source like 'donkeyHire'
    V_CANDIDATE_ID     V_FNAME     V_CURRENT_EMPLOYER     V_EXPERIENCE_YEARS
    2     Vengu     Andale Tech     4
    But the record does not show up in the report!
    does this type of report parse page items as text?
    Why is it so?
    Waiting for an early reply.
    Thanks,
    venkat

    Venkat - You don't want to put ':SOURCES1' in quotes like that.

  • Passing Multiple Values from a worksheet to PL/SQL function.

    Hi All,
    Is there any way to pass multiple values selected in a worksheet to a PL/SQL function ?
    I will try to explain the scenario:
    We have a crosstab report that showing all the customer details, deposit sum of a customer in each date in a date range selected. With the customer details we are showing the Rank of a customer based on the deposit in the latest date selected. Filtering is based on the rank, ie Top50 or Top60 etc.( As I said rank is calculating based on the deposit in the latest date).This is working fine.
    Now the new requirement is to : For example, in Top50 report, list all the customers, who were in the Top50 list, in any of the dates selected. We are able to display the daywise rank, but when giving a condition like daywiserank <= 50, the result becomes uncertain. Some blank lines, wrong amounts etc..
    As a work around we tried to find out the rank in a PL/SQL function. But the issue there is : we have some multiple value parameters used in the worksheet.
    Is there any way to pass multiple values selected in a worksheet to a PL/SQL function ?
    Or any other work arounds for the scenario explained?

    Hi Russ,
    Thanks for the response.

    1. I thought there was an analytical function similar to rank - or maybe an option of rank - that if there are duplicate records to have them all considered the same rank. So if you had 3 records all the same as rank=2 then a condition saying where rank=2 would return the 3 records. You could check into this.
    We are already using DENSE_RANK. But the issue is the output contains incorrect null values nd repeated rows.
    We got it solved as I explained in the previous post. But will that AGGREGATION MODE setting ( Which discoverer says - not recommended) have any issue? I mean side effects?
    Russ Proudman wrote:
    2. Another thought is that you can create a PL/SQL routine - that's called from a SQL function registered in Discoverer - where a table is created that does the first part of your query. Then a worksheet is created to use the data from that table. So, in essence, the table would have your top50 ranked customers. Then you can write any kind of worksheet against that table. However, DBAs are loath to allow tables - that they didn't create! - many times in a PROD environment.
    Here also the same problem will occur: as the top 50 will depend upon the parameters. I cannot pass those parameters to PL/SQL Function.And storing the top50 ( itmay be top100 or to 150 also) for all combinations of the parameters is impossible
    Russ Proudman wrote:
    3. Finally, are you sure you're rank function is correct in that if you're getting blank lines, maybe the 'over' part is not considering all columns needed to determine the rank?
    Yes the query we are using is correct. The output QUERY of discoverer gives correct results in Sqlplus.

  • Show refcursor returned by a PL/SQL function ?

    Is it possible to show the results returned by a
    PL/SQL function that returns a refcursor ?
    In sqlplus it goes like this:
    SQL> variable a refcursor;
    SQL> execute :a := p_front.get_invoice_list;
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> print a;
    INVOICE_ID CLIENT_ID INVOICE_D
    101 100 01-APR-06
    100 100 06-APR-06
    If not, this would be on the top of my wishlist...
    By the way: you did a good job on this tool!

  • Application Report Missing PL/SQL Functional Area

    All,
    I just wanted to bring to the ApEx developers something I just noticed... I use the Shared Components > Database Object Dependencies report to make sure all is well before moving applications into production.
    The Parsing Errors feature of that report is WONDERFUL! But it seems to be overlooking buttons that use a conditional display based on PL/SQL Function Body Returning a Boolean.
    Dan

    Hi Dan,
    I think the place is perfect, but I read once somewhere that "Bug" or "Bug Report" should be in the subject so that's easier to find for the Oracle guys.
