Publish to Folder or other User account-what's easier

The title says it, but what method of splitting up websites into their own domain file is easier in the long run. I'm considering a Mobile Me Family Pack to split up some email accounts, but also, the Family Pack would give me separate iDisks. I could set up new user accounts, split the Domain file, edit and publish from the other user accounts. Would this make sense.

Looks like iWeb 09 with built in FTP will solve most peoples issues with multiple sites in iWeb.

  • Sharing a folder between many user accounts on same computer

Well, I need some help to find out what I am doing wrong. I would like to share a folder amongst many user accounts on the same computer.
    Actual Situation:
I have Account A (Admin) Public folder allowing other users to read/write. Account B (user) write a file into the Public folder. Account A (Admin) cannot see any file. Account B sees the files.
    Desired Situation:
I would like Account A to be able to read/write the files Account B user put into the public folder.
The public folder has all the right permissions. What am I missing?
    Cheers

  • The account application created using can see current Blank Site page but no other user account see current page only some old page?

    Hello Community
Using Sharepoint 2010 Server and the UI, building an intranet
starting with a Blank Site and then adding subsites can be accomplished.
However, in this case the current Blank Site page that was created only shows
when logged in using the account that the application was created under.
Any other account used to login with when the url is typed into the
address bar does not show the current Blank Site page.
Instead when using any other account the page that is returned is
some page that was created early in in the creation of the site.
A Blank site is said to be:
"A blank site for you to customize based on your requirements."
I checked-in the v4.master and approved it but the problem still exists.
Then I checked the Site Collection features under Site Collection
    Administration "Active" contains:
        Sharepoint Server Publishing Infrastucture
Sharepoint Server Standard Site Collection features
Then I checked under Site Actions has Manage Site features "Active"
    contains:
        Sharepoint Server Publishing
        Sharepoint server Standard Site features
It is said that maybe the page needs to be "Published".  Basically
this is a Blank Site page so when the instructions says:
"To publish a page, on the page that you are editing, on the
    Page Editing toolbar, click Publish."
I am unable to do it because when I:
           "Edit Page"
There is not no option on the ribbon to choose "Publish".
Neither did I see the "Publish"option when editing the v4.master in SPD.
In summary, when logged in with the account that everything was created
under I can see the current Blank Site with the Lists and everthing else
on the page but how come when I login with any other user account
I don't see the current Blank Site page but instead see some old page that
I may have created earlier when creating the application?
        Thank you

    Hello Community
I think it is worth mentioning that the Top Link Bar shows what appears
on the current Blank Site page but it is the OOTB NoteBoard  and Discussion Board
List which both reside in Left web part on the Blank Site page that has been replaced
on the page by what had been in an old Content Editor web part during early creation.
How can I grant permissions to the OOTB NoteBoard and the Discussion Board List
that would allow other user accounts to see them, thus making the entire current Blank Site page
    visible other user accounts?
        Thank you

  • Cannot login to other user accounts via Terminal

Hi. I'm a Unix newb. I am reading Mac OS X Support Essentials and I'm a little stuck on the command line chapter. There is a command that just does not work for me.
I am an Administrator using an Administrator account. I am using bash Terminal and trying to login to another user's account (also mine) on the same Mac using +sudo username+. The password prompt appears and I type the user's password. It throws back "Sorry, try again." I'm not sure if I am supposed to use the user's password or my admin password so I also tried my password. The response is
    sudo: username: command not found
Is there a permission problem or something? I logged into the other user accounts in the GUI. I have the right passwords.
    Thanks in advance.
    Gary

Note that this topic would be better posted over on the [Unix forum|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=735]. I'll ask the moderators to move it over there, so don't be surprised if it moves.
That said, sudo stands for "super user do", and is used to identify some action to take as another user or as root. A username is not an action, so "sudo username" is not a valid command. If you have a particular command that you wish to execute with root permissions, you do something like this:
    sudo ls -al /Users/anotheruser/Documents/
This lets you view the contents of another user's Documents folder. You can also execute commands as a specific user (though I've never tried this) using something like:
sudo -u anotheruser ls -al /Users/anotheruser/Documents/
I'm not sure if this answers your question or not...

From my post on what seems like the same issue (found here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/21087892#21087892)
    Take the following steps:
    1) while connected to wifi, toggle off then back on the Show All Music and iTunes Match options shown in my original post. Important: I did this step before, but wasn't connected to wifi, and my music disappeared. Subsequently, I connected to wifi and turned off and then back on those options and everything came back though it was grayed out and my only option was to download music.
    2) To get streaming over cellular back, go into Settings>General>Cellular and scroll down to the "Use Cellular Data for:" options and make sure the iTunes option is set to 'On'
The above steps will bring back the streaming capability which seemed to go away when you update to 6.1. It didn't ACTUALLY go away, but something about the update toggled off the iTunes option in step 2 above.
I did a final test by turning off wifi, opening Music app and selecting a song. It played successfully without downloading! Crossing my fingers, but I think I'm good to go!
    Hope this helps!

  • How to restrict External Drive access in other user accounts

I just purchased an external HD and moved my iTunes and iPhoto libraries to it. No problem there.
My Mac mini has four user accounts and I'd like to set the permissions on the external HD so that only I can write to it from my account. I'm attempting to do this through 'Get Info' on the external drive, then setting Sharing & Permissions to 'Read and Write' for myself and 'Read only' for the other three accounts. But it seems that when I set one of these it gets set for all four accounts.
Am I doing something wrong trying to set the permissions this way, or, is there a better way to do it?
    Thanks,
    Andy

I didn't realize you could set the privileges for other user accounts in the 'Get Info' box from my account. I added the names of the other three accounts and set them to 'Read Only' but I am still able to delete files from the drive when I'm logged into those accounts.
What I'm trying to do is set it up so that either (1) they can't accidentally delete files from the external disk or (2) they can't even see the disk at all from those accounts. I would have thought that 'Read Only' would not allow them to delete files, but with the privilege set to 'Read Only' I'm still able to delete files from the disk.
Maybe I'm missing a step? Or maybe there's another way to do it?
    Thanks,
    Andy

  • Iphoto doesn't show photos in other user-account

    Hi,
I have the iPhoto-Lib in the public folder of my user-account. All other users have full access to this folder and subfolder. When another user logs in and opens iphoto (no other user has iphoto open) it shows the preview off all pictures. He can open older pictures by double click. Newer Photos are not shown after double click. An triangle with exclamation mark shows up shortly after the picture was shown.
When I login all the pictures are shown as preview and after double click.
    Any ideas?
    Peter

Using that form of sharing the Library should be in the Users/Shared folder, not the Public folder.
However, lots of people report permissions issues with this form of sharing and instead I suggest using an external HD set to ignore permissions and formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

  • Cannot edit tracks in other user account.

I moved some MP3's over to my other user account and iTunes will not let me rename them. I made sure that the permissions where changed to allow this. The only thing I can find thats different is under the file info, the "locked" check box is grayed out. Its not checked, its just grayed out. Any ideas?
Also, I do not believe they are DRM protected as I AM able to edit them in my current user account.
    Thank you!

Using Apple-I on the mp3 I have the following permissions at the bottom:
    admin read & write
name of 2nd account read & write
current account (primary) read & write
    staff read & write
    everyone read & write
    Is this what you mean?
Oh. The "other user" is not where I downloaded the files if thats what you mean. I downloaded them on my primary account and then moved them over to the secondary account.

  • Can't move iWeb domaine to my other user account

When I copy my iWeb domaine to my other user account on my iMac by dropping it into idrop it only seems to work for awhile, then by the end of the day it's gone. Very strange.

Not familiar with iDropd and how it works.  Just copy the domain.sites file to the new Mac and place it wherever you want.  The default location is in the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.
In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

Will the automatic backups backup the entire disk (even other user accounts), when I'm not logged into those accounts?
I want to be assured that my back up is working completely.    What if my MacBookPro auto-logs off my account during the backup due to no activity?   Or, is the backup considered activity and it won't log off?
What about  the Energy saving options - will they affect the backup ?

Assuming you mean via Time Machine, yup.    It backs up your entire system, including all user accounts (unless you specifically exclude things).

I've never tried it, but the backups run as the "root" user, so will probably continue.  If they don't, it's not a problem, as the next backup will "catch up" with all changes.
What about  the Energy saving options - will they affect the backup ?
Not really.  If you have the Mac set to shut down at a particular time, that will of course interrupt a backup if one is running.  But again, the next backup will catch up.

  • My iTunes library is on an external hard drive; how do I set it so other users (accounts) on my imac, will also have the same library, with the same playlists

my iTunes library is on an external hard drive; how do I set it so other users (accounts) on my imac, will also have the same library, with the same playlists

    Quit iTunes.
    Sign into another user account.
    Hold Option, launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder on the external.
    Do this for all users.
NOTE: You must quit iTunes when switching users as the library can only be opened by one user at a time.

  • Can't open Firefox or IE in other user accounts.

I am using, from the dock, Safari, Firefox 1.5 and IE 5.2.3 without any problems. However I have two other user accounts (family) who can use Safari but cannot open Firefox or IE-all they get is the bouncing icon in the
dock (no message windows). The only way out of this to force quit. We had been using all three browsers without any problems for a long time in each user account.
This problem I can only link to the latest Security Upgrade 2005.09. Is there a link or is it just coincidental.
Have run Disk Utility and repaired Permissions numerous times without any success solving the problem. Is there a solution anyone can offer?
    Help appreciated.

    Hi tharmsen ,
Could I have something messed up in a setting someplace? Argh... so frustrating!
I wondered the same, but i never did get an answer,so i do not know.
I had similar issues with the 1.5 version, i certainly understand your
frustration, i wanted to send it to space!!! i had to remove it.
I am sticking with Safari which I love. Also if Debug enable in menu bar
Safari can emulate a few browsers.
just be aware that there are some issues with the earlier versions of FF,
here is an link i found when i considered going back to the 1.0.4 .
that i was trying to update.

  • Sound output from other user accounts

It used to be that I would hear sounds from other logged-in user accounts; I'd hear my wife's new mail arrival sound, I'd hear her Skype ringing when calls were coming in, etc. I also used to be able to play iTunes in one account, fast-user-switch to another, and the music would still play.
This has all gone away recently. I'm not exactly sure but I think it coincided with the 10.4.4 update.
This is a big concern because my wife was used to hearing her incoming Skype calls ringing when I was using the Mac, but now she misses all her calls if someone else is logged in!
I haven't found any other mention of this in any forum. Is this just me having this problem? Any way I can fix it?

Okay, I just got off the phone with Apple support and they say that sound outputting from other user accounts was a "bug" that has now been "fixed." They said that this was patched sometime between the 10.4.3 and 10.4.4 updates. I'm surprised to hear that you are having this problem in 10.4.2 because I'm sure it worked for me under 10.4.3 at some point. None of the security updates released under either 10.4.3 or 10.4.4 make any mention of this patch.
Apple support says that there's no preference for this setting and we've just got to live with it now.
This is so irritating! I've got my Skype ring tone, she's got hers, and we'd hear it ringing and know who it was for no matter who was logged in. Now that functionality is busted, and when one of us is logged in the other misses all the calls, and if one of my kids is logged in then both of us miss our calls! I can't believe Apple considers this "bug" to be "fixed".
There's got to be a way around this; maybe by using the "defaults write" command or something? That command sets a lot of preferences that Apple claims are not user-settable.
