Publishing Diagrams

Hi,
I use Designer 10g, and want to publish my server model diagrams to PNG or JPEG format, but I can't find the Publish Diagrams utility.
In the Utilities menu, I have Create Arc, Add To Arc, Remove From Arc, Create Oracle Object Type, Create Object View, External References, Resequence, Extended Copy, Force Delete, Update Column / Attributes In Domain, and Select in Other Tools.
No trace of Publish Diagram.
Can someone help me? Am I missing a patch or something, or did I neglect to install a necessary component?
Thanks!

Benoit,
Which version of Designer are you using? The "Publish Diagrams" feature is available from the 6i 4.10, 9i 9.0.2.8 and 10g 9.0.4.4, or higher, releases of Designer.

• Publish diagram in SSM

Hi all,
After having created a Goal Diagram in the Diagram Manager, Saved and published and returned to the SSM Administration and Saved I still get the message "Not Published" next to the Edit Goal Diagram, where it's supposed to show the published data and give the option og unpublishing.
I'm running IE7 on Vista and working directly on the application server. IE7 and Vista is mentioned in SP7.
Any ideas.
Thanks,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,
I think the problem lies in the version of the diagram manager you are using. Since a new version of Diagram manager is released (7.0.4.8249), please install the latest version in both the server as well as for the user. I am not too sure of the version number , but that is the version I am using here.
Also please check the note 1248590 as well.
Hope this helps

• Publishing diagram gives empty picture

I create a database diagram in Jdeveloper 11g 11.1.1.0.1. When publishing to a picture it makes an empty picture.
- Tried different formats (png/jpg).
- Exporting to an older xmi (creates a small xmi without real content in it)
The database diagram file itself contains data
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' standalone='yes'?>
<xmi:XMI xmi:version='2.1' xmlns:xmi='http://schema.omg.org/spec/XMI/2.1' xmlns:DI='http://xmlns.omg.org/DI/2.0'>
<documentation exporter='Oracle JDeveloper' exporterVersion='11.1.1.0.1'/>
<DI:Diagram xmi:id='94533e0d-011f-1000-8002-0a00000a5516' zoom='0.0'>
</DI:Diagram>
</xmi:XMI>
When I created a smaller diagram it worked. This one which has 30 entities and 21 notes does not.
Has anyone else had this problem. How can I debug?

Hello:
I'm having the same problem. Some of my diagrams are converted to an empty image when I publish them. I'm using JDeveloper 11.1.1.0.2. Does anyone has a solution or work around for this?
Thanks.

• Printing DB Diagrams in JDev 10.1.3 EA

Hi,
I am unable to print database diagrams from JDeveloper 10.1.3 EA. Was anyone able to do it successfully?
Thanks

File | Print works for me but you don't have much control over how many pages you get. I'm on a later build that was supplied to the Tools CAB, so if File | Print doesn't work for you, it may be a problem with the EA version.
You could also save as a JPG or SVG or PNG using Model | Publish Diagram.

Hello there,
I have a very simple question. I want to know how I can convert a class diagram that I have created in jdeveloper into a jpg image so I can put in word. When I try exporting it only has the uml to xmi option
Does anyone have a suggestion?

Hi,

than click publish diagram on the context menu
and save as jpg where ever you want...

• Navigation between diagrams on a SharePoint process repository

We have created a process diagram repository on Sharepoint 2010. Visio services is enabled on the site. The library is set to open documents in the Browser by default. The documents are stored as web diagram (*.wdv) in odrder to enable visitors to view them
without Visio installed on their workstation. Individual process documents can viewed OK.
We would now like to create hyperlinks between documents so that visitors who want to see the details of a subprocess task described in another document can jump to it by ctrl+clicking on the hyperlink, all this without leaving the browser window.
Yet, when I try to do it, the browser wants to open the linked document in Visio but does not display it using visioWebaccess.
Wen the subprocess detailed diagram is stored within the same document as a separate page, navigating from one page to another is not an issue. What we would like is to extend this seamless navigation to pages in different Visio web drawings stored in the
same library.
How can this be achieved ?
Bertrand

Hi,
Is the file format you mentioned is .vdw file instead of .wdv file?
And are the hyperlinks file format are also .vdw files?
Based on my research, published Visio diagrams can include hyperlinks which allow users to navigate to: other pages in the same diagram, other pages in other published diagrams, even other
sites using standard URLs, when the diagram is published to Visio Services as a Visio Web Drawing (VDW) file.
For more infroamtion, please refer to the link below:

• Designer 6i and 10g on the same machine?

I have Designer 6i and corresponding repository on my machine.
The problem with 6i I can't save diagramm in HTML format
I believe I can save in HTML format in 10g or other?
Can I install on the same machine 10g designer?
should I configure new repository?
TIA

See my update on your earlier question.
As for running 6i and 10g on the same machine, yes you can do it. You just have to install them in separate Oracle Homes, and be careful when you tell them which version of EXP and IMP to use. There is one MAJOR caveat, however. They cannot use the same Designer Repository - 6i client won't talk to a 10g repository and 10g client won't talk to a 6i repository. You can upgrade a 6i repository to 10g with the RAU, but take a backup before you do - the only way to go back is to restore your backup. Besides, I think that if you upgrade to the last supported version of Designer 6i (you should be able to get it from MetaLink) you will get the Publish Diagrams utility.
Frankly, my opinion is that there is only one reason to stay on 6i - if you need to generate and support 6i client/server Oracle Forms. If you don't use Oracle Forms, or if you have moved on to Web Forms with the middle tier Forms Server, I'd recommend an upgrade to Designer 10g and Developer 10g.

• ***URGENT**** DESIGNER 6i and Report

I am trying to generate reports out of Designer 6i. I have two problems that I cannot resolve.
1. How do I get the current user to print on the report?
2 How do you create a title page, header and footer for the report through Designer? If not in Designer, how do I create a template? I have invoke Report Builder and cannot seem to add a header or footer section if the file opened is a template.

• Import UML XMI File

I see that I can open a diagram with "Import UML XMI File". How do I export a current diagram to an XMI/XML file so it can be shared, access and modified by other developer.

Hi,
There is currently no XMI export functionality in JDeveloper.
If you want to publish diagrams to be used in other documents etc, then you can use the 'Publish Diagram...' context menuitem which will save the diagram as an image.
If you want to be able to allow others to edit the diagram, then they need to be able to access the project's directory.
For more details on the supported XMI formats please see the help topics 'Importing UML Classes using XMI Import'

• JDeveloper as A Database Design Tool

Would anyone recommend it? I'm looking into usage of a few tools at the moment and I'm suprisingly impressed with JDeveloper. I find it to be a hell of a lot easier to use then Oracle Designer which i Just don't like.
If anyone has used it in a project before would they recommend it. One feature I'm looking for which I can't find (possibly cause I don;t know where to look is, is there an option to export the diagram to imagery formats like jpeg? Apart from that looks good so far
Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
Without having any experience in Oracle Designer, I would definitely recommend JDeveloper as a database design tool. I've used it in every project I've done so far.
Regarding your question about exporting a database diagram to a format like JPG: that's perfectly possible: on your diagram, right click and choose 'Publish Diagram'.

Hi Heerak,
Thanks for posting your query,
I believe, you have VISO Premium 2010 installed on your machine.therefore, you are not able to open your .vsd files or you might have issue in your IE. try out below mentioned options
1. Re-install viso viewer 2010 and restart the machine
2. Save file on your Local Machine then try to open them, If you have a proper installation of Microsoft Viso
Also, checkout below mentioned URL for more details

• How to save diagramm in HTML format or PDF it

how to save diagramm in HTML format or PDF it

You have two alternatives. First of all, there are many utilities, some of them free that can put a "printer" on your printer list that really writes a PDF file. The one I use is free, called CutePDF. Once you have one of these installed, saving to PDF is as simple as print the diagram, choose the printer associated with your utility, then name the file.
I'm not sure if it is in your version of Designer, but all of the latest versions of Designer have a "publish diagram" utility. Just drop down the Utilities menu from the RON or the Design Editor. The bottom selection should be "Publish Diagrams...", which will open a dialog window. Choose the diagram(s) you want to publish, select Publish to File, enter a file name, and select a graphics format from PNG, GIF, JPEG, BMP or TIFF. You can easily add the file to an HTML page inside an <IMG> tag.

• Publishing Server model and ER Diagrams

I want to be able to publish to (PDF or HTML) copies of the Server Model and ER Diagrams I have created.
It seems from the forum that this feature is available in some releases of Designer 10G. What version do I need to upgrade to get to get access to this feature. I am currently on 9.0.4.3.

You probably have everything you need in the version you have now. First of all, you need to get the diagrams into a publishable format. You can include them as images in a Word document. You can cut and paste into Paint and save as GIF, PNG or JPG. You can print with a utility that writes to PDF instead of a printer or plotter - the full version of Adobe Acrobat can do this, or there are open source utilities (I've used CutePDF with success).
As for publishing, of course you can use any web server if you like. If you want something more than just putting the diagram files on a web server, then you can install the Repository Object Browser (ROB). ROB is like a read-only web version of the Repository Object Navigator (RON). I believe that ROB is available for your version of Designer. Look for a folder called ROB61 in your Oracle Home. There is an HTML document there that will tell you how to install it. You will need a web server that supports PL/SQL web applications to install ROB, such as Oracle Application Server. It will also need a Java servlet engine like OC4J to use certain ROB features like file upload and download which you will need for diagrams.
