Purging application logs automatically in Hyperion 9.3.1 products
Hi,
I am trying to explore purging options in Weblogic server.
Could someone help me in finding a setting(if there is one) under Weblogic properties files, which will purge Application logs automatically after 'n' number of days.
for example in D:\Hyperion\deployments\WebLogic9\servers\aas\logs directory, I see a lot of eas log files created with extensions from .log00001 to .log00427. Is there any way of removing these automatically without using any other windows scripts.
Thanks
Prasad
This works now after I did the change from WebLogic Administration comsole by going to each server's Logging tab ( Servers -> server_name -> Logging ). Set the rotation type to "Time", files to retain, and rotation interval ( default 24 hours ), etc. This will keep the files to a fixed count

Is there any way to automate purging Application Logging in azure storage account tables
is there any way to automate purging Application Logging in azure storage account tables
Rohit Pasrijahi Rohit,
If you want to delete old data automatically, I think you need develop this feature by yourself. You could code the logic methods on your project, and set a timer to execute the methods to delete old data. Please refer to this thread (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13602629/is-it-possible-to-acces-a-table-storage-in-azure-from-an-azure-web-site
), you could operate table storage data using azure sdk or REST API.
Please try it.

Is there any setting i can limit the size of application log size?i knew we can backup application log by copying & delete appliation log. Instead of this , any other setting we can do , it will delete application log automatically after reaching some size?
Mike, There is no functionality to limit the logfile size. but there are some other options.. 1.CLEARLOGFILE TRUE/FALSE - With this configuration file setting you can set the log file to clear whenever OLAP server is re-started. 2. Run MaxL script to periodically clear log file <alter system> command. hope this helps -Maneesh Hari

Dear all,
I need your inputs to solve the below mentioned issue,
There is a communication developed between MS sharepoint and SAP.
By using Mapper Classes for each and every operations the conversion of data format from Sharepoint to SAP and viceversa happens.
We can see the message or error logs created during the conversion process using the T-code /iwfnd/view_log.
But i want my custumized messages has to come in that log for that i used the following code in the mapper class Post method but still my logs are not coming in the T-code /iwfnd/view_log.

Many thanks in Advance,
HarishHi Girimurugan,
I am currently working with SAP Gateway related stuffs and I need a clarification regarding the application log.
Hope you are very busy and please clarify the doubts if you can spare few minutes towards this query.
Appreciate your valuable advise towards this.
Query:
Can we log any of the different types of logs (I Info / W Warning / A Abort or Cancel / E Error ) into Application Log(/IWFND/APPS_LOG) of the Gateway system in a Hub deployment model ?
How the logging can be achieved?
What are the scenarios, wherein the Application logs are preferred?
Also I have already raised a query in the SCN with this link: http://scn.sap.com/message/15477543. But could not get much details about it.
Can you please clarify the same?
Thanks & Regards,

EM Application Log and Web Access Log growing too large on Redwood Server
Hi,
We have a storage space issue on our Redwood SAP CPS Orcale servers and have found that the two log files above are the main culprits for this. These files are continually updated and I need to know what these are and if they can be purged or reduced down in size.
They have been in existence since the system has been installed and I have tried to access them but they are too large. I have also tried taking the cluster group offline to see if the file stops being updated but the file continues to be updated.
Please could anyone shed any light on this and what can be done to resolve it?
Thanks in advance for any help.
JasonHi David,
The file names are:
em-application.log and web access.log
The File path is:
D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\oc4j\j2ee\OC4J_DBConsole_brsapprdbmp01.britvic.BSDDRINKS.NET_SAPCPSPR\log
Redwood/CPS version is 6.0.2.7
Thanks for your help.
Kind Regards,

Why do certain applications open automatically
why do certain applications open automatically?
If you're using Lion, and the apps open automatically when you start up/log in, it's down to one of two things. Either
a) you had the application open when you shut down last time, or
b) you have that application set to open automatically.
If you don't want (a) happening, either quit the application completely before you shut down, or turn off all app resuming through System Preferences - General - untick "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps".
If the apps re-open even if you quit them before shutting down, check System Preferences - Accounts - Login Items. Delete any programs from the list that you don't want auto-launching when you log in.

Can I rotate application log in OC4J_Portal_default_island_1?
My application.log file in %oracle_home%\j2ee\oc4j_portal\application-deployments\portal\oc4j_portal_default_island_1 grows quickly. Can I configure it to rotate every day or when it reaches a certain size? If yes, how?
TIA
Edited by: Angrydot on Aug 25, 2008 9:51 PM - what happens if I edit an old post in the new forum?
Edited by: Angrydot on Aug 25, 2008 9:52 PM - nothingTo rotate the OC4J log files under $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/logs, there are few parameters you can modify that are not documented in Oracle 9.0.4/10.1.2 documentation.
[New JVM parameters]
"stdstream.filesize"
Max file size limit of each archive. Unit is megabyte.
"stdstream.filenumber"
Max number of files that oc4j can keep as archives. The oldest file will be automatically deleted if the limit is exceeded.
[Usage]
ex 1: rotate stdout/stderr when the file size is reached to 2.5M byte.
java -Dstdstream.filesize=2.5 -jar oc4j.jar -out std.out -err std.err
OraHome\opmn\conf\opmn.xml
In order to get these parameters in opmn.xml you need to define it as follows:
<category id="start-parameters">
<data id="java-options" value="-server -Djava.security.policy=$ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/config/java2.policy -Djava.awt.headless =true -Dstdstream.filesize=0.2 -Dstdstream.filenumber=5"/>
<data id="oc4j-options" value="-out std.out -err std.err"/>
</category>
The new log files will be created under:$ORACLE_HOME\j2ee\home\home_default_island_1\
The file naming will be like:
std_2006_02_22_14_01_17.out
std_2006_02_22_14_16_25.out
Important notes:
1. Backup opmn.xml file before any modification.
2. Modify opmn.xml file to specify stdstream.filesize and stdstream.filenumber. See the example above.
3. Test and validate this solution in your test system first before implementing in Production. -
How to determine SLG1 Application Log Size
Hi, Can anyone tell me how we might be able to determine the size of our SLG1 Application Logs on our BW System?
We want to be sure they are not taking up too much space. If they are we'll purge with SLG2, and if not then we will keep them around.
Thanks!Hello,
system does writes the application log in to the database.

Application log ( Transaction slg1)
Hi,
This is suresh.
I got a requirement in that i need to send input values to application log. Am able to send four parameters using function module bal_log_msg_add(msgv1,msgv2,..) successfully. But in my requirement i need to send five parameters to application log. How can i do this. For which prameter i need to send using function module bal_log_msg_add. please help me in this.Hi Suresh,
See the Function Module Documentation, It will help you.
Sets of logs can be created with the following methods.
Function modules: [ Some Additional Function Modules ] :
BAL_LOG_CREATE Create log with header data
BAL_LOG_MSG_ADD Log a message
BAL_LOG_MSG_CUMULATE Add a message cumulatively to the log
BAL_LOG_MSG_REPLACE Replace the last message
BAL_GLB_MSG_CURRENT_HANDLE_GET Get the current message handle
BAL_LOG_MSG_DELETE Delete message
BAL_LOG_MSG_CHANGE Change message
BAL_GLB_MSG_DEFAULTS_GET Get message data defaults
BAL_GLB_MSG_DEFAULTS_SET Set message data defaults
Types :
BAL_S_MDEF Message defaults
Example program :
Program SBAL_DEMO_02 simulates a flight check and outputs a check result log.
==>SBAL_DEMO_02 ==>SBAL_DEMO_02 coding
Add message to log :
This is the 'classical' way of logging messages with BAL_LOG_MSG_ADD.
==>Note
The log handle is optional for function modules such as BAL_LOG_MSG_ADD, BAL_LOG_MSG_CUMULATE, BAL_LOG_MSG_ADD_FREE_TEXT, etc.
If it is not specified, the default log, which can be set, with other default data, with BAL_GLB_MSG_DEFAULTS_SET is used. If no default log is defined, it is set automatically by BAL_LOG_CREATE (see here).
Add message cumulatively :
Functionality :
A message is added to the log with ( log handle) I_LOG_HANDLE cumulatively.
The message data is in the IMPORTING parameter I_S_MSG (structure BAL_S_MSG).
A message handle E_S_MSG_HANDLE, which uniquely identifies this message, is returned.
'Cumulative'
Some messages are sent several times by a program, without providing new information each time. Such messages can be cumulated with BAL_LOG_MSG_CUMULATE to save memory. When the same message is repeated, no new message is added, the counter MSG_COUNT for the old message is incremented.
You can specify when messages are the same in the function module interface. The T100 data must be identical, and you can specify that other data must also be the same:
I_COMPARE_ATTRIBUTES = 'X'
Message attributes (problem class PROBCLASS, level of detail DETLEVEL and sort field ALSORT) must be identical
I_COMPARE_CONTEXT = 'X'
The context must be the same
I_COMPARE_PARAMETERS = 'X'
The message parameters must be the same.
To find identical messages quickly for cumulation, the Application Log constructs a small index table containing as unambiguous a signature of a message as possible, at runtime. This index is only constructed if cumulation is used.
Thanks. -
Our application-log on our 4255 running 7.0(1)E3 is showing 96% full. I don't see any GUI or CLI commands that pertain to the application-log. What is it and how to you clear it?
CraigThe application log is the name given in "show ver" for the /usr/ids/idsRoot/var/iplogs partition which for the IPS-4255 is stored in RAM.
On an IPS 4255 the system will automatically create a RAM disk for the partition on bootup, and then the sensor processes will automatically create 512 IPLOG files in the directory.
These 512 files are originally written with empty data, but take up a full 1000000 bytes each.
So these 512 files will automatically fill up the parition 96% full on an IPS-4255.
There are no CLI commands to change this, and none are needed to clean it up. It will always be 96% full.
As new IP Logs are created (in response to the packet log event actions) it will start writing packet data into these 512 IP Log files. When all 512 are full of packet data the sensor will automatically start overwriting the oldest file. So there will always be 512 files and always take up 96% of the partition.
On other sensor models the % used will differ because either the partition size is smaller or larger, and there are smaller or larger number of IP Log files that the sensor creates and uses.
There is no supported method for clearing the IP Logs.
The box can be rebooted in which case all stored information in the IP Logs are lost (remember they were in a RAM disk), and 512 new emtpy files will be created. -
Custom error message in SAP application log
Is there a way to add a custom error message to the SAP application log without passing the message variables MSGV1, MSGV2, MSGV3, MSGV4 and the Message class and number.
We want to pass a custom message from the BAPIRET2-MESSAGE without giving it a Message class and number. The reason for this is that we are using class based exceptions instead of the traditional message class with errors. When we catch the class based exception, we take the error text of the exception and put in in the BAPIRET2-message and set the BAPIRET2-TYPE as 'E'. Now we want to add this to the SAP application log.
The call to 'BAL_LOG_MSG_ADD' takes a structure BAL_S_MSG which is just like BAPIRET2. However this function builds the entry to the application log use the message variables MSGV1, MSGV2, MSGV3, MSGV4. There is no provision to pass in the BAPIRET2 message.
Add message to application log
CALL FUNCTION 'BAL_LOG_MSG_ADD'
EXPORTING
i_log_handle = app_log_handle
i_s_msg = log_message
Thanks,
JayHi Jay,
Did you see <b>BAL_LOG_EXCEPTION_ADD</b>?
This FM is represented by the structure <b>BAL_S_EXC</b>. This can have various versions as described below:
<b>Data of BAL_S_EXC Structure / Use</b>
<b>EXCEPTION</b> / Exception class from which an exception text
is added to the log. This field must be filled.
<b>MSGTY</b> / Message type (MSGTY) of a T100 message.
This field must also be filled for exceptions.
<b>PROBCLASS,
DETLEVEL,
ALSORT, TIME_STMP</b> / Message or exception attributes, such as
problem class (PROBCLASS, for
example, "very important"), level of detail
(DETLEVEL, from 1 to 9), sort criterion
(ALSORT, unrestricted) and timestamp
(TIME_STMP). These fields can be displayed
in the log (except TIME_STMP).
<b>MSG_COUNT</b> / This attribute is not used for exceptions.
Follow the link below for more details:

Can anyone share with me his experience about ld.so.1?? What is it and why does it cause my apps server to reboot?It looks like you might simply have run out of memory. It just looks like the JRE tried to adjust its memory map and run out space. When mprotect fails the problem probably isn't with the .so itself.
What are the memory characteristics of your machine? Including the heap and stack space that you allocate for your JVM, as well as the actual physical and swap space available on the server.
