Purpose of System Members 9.3.1

Can someone give me an brief explanation of system members ie [year] and why I might need them? I've created my first planning app and I had trouble understanding why I had the [Year] member automatically added to the Period dimension. Account appears to have a lot more.
I have looked in both the hp_user and hp_admin pdf's and the on-line help and although there are brief notes on their existence, there doesn't seem to be much of an explanation as to their worth.
Is there any other documentation I should be referring to?
At the moment, I have created YearTotal as required and excluded [Year] as I received an error during validation stating that only one of them could be tagged as a Year Time Period.
Any help would be appreciate

Per the Planning Administration guide, page 82:
"Application system members store critical system information such as currency rates and
ownership information. Each product has certain application system members that, when
exported to Shared Services, are displayed in the model hierarchy."
Have you built a currency Planning application? If so, you'll note that while you can add currencies to translate there isn't a currency dimension viewable in the Dimension Administration screen. Yet, if you look in Essbase, there is a HSP_Rates and Currencies dimension. Based on the above description, these currency pieces of information are system members.
BTW, the above quote from the guide comes from the bit about exporting applications to Shared Services.
Are you seeing members like Year coming from EPMA? I've not seen that member appear in a classic Planning application.

  • Whats the purpose of System.setProperties();

    Can someone give me a reason why we would use System.setProperties(); if it doesnt affect the actual System Properties for other programs.

    I've never done it, but you can use it to fool later calls to System.getProperty() into thinking that those properties were given on the command line.
    import java.util.*;
    public class Test {
        public static void main(String[] args){
              Properties out = new Properties();
              out.setProperty("com.acme.widget", "bip");
              System.setProperties(out);
              Properties in = System.getProperties();
              for(Object key : in.keySet())
                System.out.println(key + "=" + in.get(key));

  • Please help with a new dual purpose PC build

    Hi everybody in AdobeLand!
    I've been reading various boards and hardware sites and have started piecing together a dual purpose computer system.  It will be used for both video editing (of pre-shot hacked, high bitrate I-Frame Panasonic GH2 DSLR and camcorder footage using the AVCHD codec @ 1080p 24 and 30 fps) and webcasting/streaming purposes.  I would build two computers for each task, but it's just not in the budget right now.  I'm already stretching things as is.
    I'm still not sure if I will be using Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas Pro 12 yet, though it seems like they organize their folders and file structures about the same.  Adobe's cloud service has me a bit scared off right now.  This new scheme feels like they have their hand purpetually in your wallet, which does not sit well with me.  I may still go with Vegas 12 just to avoid that hassle right now.  Help guide me here, experts!  Telestream's Wirecast is being used for multi-cam switching and graphics for live and pre-recorded material being compressed and streamed.
    Back on topic:
    Here's the build as of right now...
    OS: Windows 7 64-Bit Professional (Windows 8 absolutely sucks!)
    CPU: Intel i7-4930k 6-Core Ivy Bridge (own)
    Motherboard: Asus P9X79 Pro (own)
    Memory: Crucial Ballistix 1.35v Sport DDR3L @ 32 GB (own)
    GPU:  EVGA GTX 770 FTW w/ 4 GB (will buy another HD monitor at a later date, hence the 4GB memory)
    Case:  Fractal Design XL R2 Full Tower
    CPU Cooling:  Noctua NH-D14 w/ SE2011 Bracket
    PSU: Corsair RM1000 Quiet Series / 80 Plus Gold / 1000 Watts
    Monitor: Dell U2412M Ultrasharp 24 inch / 1920x1200
    Optical Drive: LG Blu-ray Writer
    Keyboard: Microsoft 4000 Ergonomic
    HDMI capture cards: Blackmagic Designs Decklink Mini (x2)
    Storage:
    I bought two Samsung 840 Pro SSD drives:  one 128 GB and one 256 GB
    Thinking about possibly 2 (maybe 3-4 if I really stretch) Seagate ST3000DM001 3TB HDD's.
    I could sure use your help with any advise on arranging the storage to get the best bang vs. buck in speed and storage utilization (Wirecast can be setup to record live webcast sessions at 720p or 1080p in compressed files... probably no more than 120 minute webcasts... so that comes into play as well).  Just don't have the funds for an uber-expensive RAID controller card right now.
    Any opinions overall on the parts for the current build?  I still have time to send back and exchange anything already purchased.
    Thank you for your time and consideration.

    What do you not understand from:
    With all the reading and writing going on, on the boot disk, it is understandable you need a (number of) dedicated disk(s) for video editing, especially with the bandwidths required when the clip duration is short and the number of tracks exceeds one and uses a codec more complex than DV. The kind of files used during editing are, in order of their need for speed:
    Media cache & Media cache database files, created on importing media into a project. They contain indexed, conformed audio and peak files for waveform display.
    Typically small files, but lots of them, so in the end they still occupy lots of disk space.
    Preview (rendered) files, created when the time-line is rendered for preview purposes, the red bar turned to green. Read all the time when previewing the time-line.
    Project files, including project auto-save files, that are constantly being read and saved as auto-save files and written when saving your edits.
    Media files, the original video material ingested from tape or card based cameras. Typically long files, only used for reading, since PR is a non-destructive editor.
    Export files, created when the time-line is exported to its final delivery format. These files are typically only written once and often vary in size from several hundred KB to tens of GB.
    When you are doubting which category of files to put on which kind of disk, especially when using both SSD's and HDD's, keep in mind that the speed advantage of SSD's over HDD's is most noteworthy with the Media cache & Media cache database. These files are frequently accessed, are small and there are many, so reducing latency and seek times and increasing transfer rates pays off by putting these on a SSD, rather than on a HDD, even if it is a raid0. Export files can go to the slowest volume on your system, since you only export once. To help you decide, I have added priority rank-numbers for speed, with 1 for the fastest volume and 5 for the least speed-demanding category.
    and
    Well, in the benchmark tests we have not seen any noticeable difference between SSD and HDD in terms of performance, but logic dictates that there should be a small difference in performance when the volume used for media cache is a SSD, because of the much faster access time and lower latency compared to a conventional disk. If it is noticeable, it is specifically on this volume with the media cache and media cache database, due to the large amount of small files that need to be accessed and written. This argument does not apply to the media volume with a limited number of files, that are very big in size.

  • Win 8.1 taking ownership and making a maze of my system

      Hi,  I am running a surface Pro 3 with win 8.1 I have had to factory reset it once, but now it has these  problems.
    The System has taken ownership of my folders and sub-folders and has been creating a maze of folders. It is replacing files with a desktop.ini fle  and an otherwise empty folder. I am getting access denied pop-ups and false errorrepports.
    question- Now that I have taken ownership of one of thee user  folders, before I do anything else I need to know the answers to the following.
    What do I do about two unknown accounts? they only have traverse, read, and execute as permission. What do I do about inheriting? Should the system have permission to take ownership? And lastly, if I took control specifically with my main account and am
    an Admin, then Admins should be left as can take ownership? (otherwise, If I understand it correctly, it would trump the allow to take ownership permission for me as an admin?)
    I know I could read up on it in your tutorials, but I  am a senior citizen. and have no patience left, nor the time to plow through all those tech pages and try to figure out what it all means. That is for the next generations. I am fortunate to understand
    as much as I do, and trouble shoot with success.
    Thank you in advance for your help to whoever has the answers.
    Respectfully,
    sandy

    Hi,
    What kind of folders are you referring to? Different folders can have different owner for different purposes, some system files are access denied by default even you're admin, it is designed for security. It's normal, for example, the "User"
    folder you have mentioned above, the "System" account should be the owner of the folder and you don't need to change it, please see my snapshot below:
    Regarding to the unknown account, my guess is that it’s probably a user account from second OS or
    previous OS that has been removed or recently deleted because of the “format” action. Or if you doubt this, I recommend you run a virus scan incase some virus infection. Please also launch registry editor, then navigate to HKLM\Software\Microosft\Windows
    NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList check if you can find user SID for the account.
    For inherited permissions, they are those that are propagated to an object from a parent object, I think the following can be more clear than I described

  • Client no in SAP Business System name.

    Hello All,
    I am currently working on naming for the SAP PI objects.
    In my previous SAP PI implementations I used naming like  SIDCLNTNO ( f.e. DPECLNT110 ) and SAP Recommends that as well. However we faced problem while pointing the different client to SAP PI sometimes in quality. For example my business system name is XXXCLNT110 in QA. But as they want to do some performance testing they wanted to point it to 900 client. At that time technically we can point it but logically it becomes wrong as scenario is still refering to 110 client (XXXCLNT110 ).
    So in my new project I am thinking of keeping business system name client independent. i.e. SAPERP_DEV. Let me know your views regarding the same ?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Dijesh Tanna.

    Hi Dijesh ,
    But as they want to do some performance testing they wanted to point it to 900 client. At that time technically we can point it but logically it becomes wrong as scenario is still refering to 110 client (XXXCLNT110 ).
    ---> for me "performance checking " is related to "technical settings" only !!!
           It's the client No. which depicts the purpose of system like test ,Dev, Sandbox,....not other way !!! so logically also "SAPERP_DEV" is not  correct ...In this fashion you will be tight coupling the business system name with the business context !!! and the solution will not be scalable !!
    Consider a case where new ERP systems coming into the landscape
    will you name it SAPERP_DEV1...SAPERP_DEV2.......
    Hope my sincere views you would find useful !!

    Database Host: AIX 5.2 - Oracle 10G ver 10.2.0.2.0. - Database remains in SAN (Storage Area Network)
    ESCENARIO ONE:
    COPYING ONLY CENTRAL INSTANCE AND CENTRAL SERVICES TO A NEW HOST.
    Purpose: I want to copy only SAP Application (Central Instance an Central Services)  to a new host and connect to my current Database Host .
    According System Copy Guide (*) the concept of System Copy includes installation of SAP instances again using copy of source system database,  likewise in this Guide I found the following restrictions:
    Restrictions.
    1.     Copying the database only is not supported!
    2.     Copying the central instance only is not supported!
          The migration controller deletes all dialog instances in the database, so the

    3.     Reinstalling the central instance without the database is not supported!
          The migration controller deletes all dialog instances in the database, so the

    Questions:
    1.     Using Homogeneus Copy (Abap+Java) can I copy ONLY SAP Instances (Central Instance and Central Services) to a new host without copying Database ?
    2.     Which is the best procedure to follow for this purpose?

    ESCENARIO TWO:
    CONVERTING DISTRIBUTED SYSTEM IN CENTRAL SYSTEM
    Purpose: Convert our SAP Distributed System (two hosts) in SAP Central System (one host)
    Questions:
    1.     Using Homogeneous Copy (Abap+Java) can I copy SAP Instances (Central Instance, Central Services)  and Oracle Database Instance  to only one host (Central System) ?
    2.     Is there any specific experience or procedure for this special case?
    3. Can I restore Database Full Offline Backup and SAP Application Offline backup  in the new server as an alternative ?
    Thanks.

    Use the distributed system option, as that is what applies to your target system.  It is all explained clearly in the system copy guide, which you should definitely reference as appropriate for your software version:  http://service.sap.com/instguides -> Installation & Upgrade Guides -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NetWeaver 7.4 (or version as appropriate) -> Installation -> 2 - Installation - SAP NetWeaver Systems -> System Copy: Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver 7.1 or Higher -> Windows: ABAP (or system variant as appropriate).  In the guide, choose the Database-Specific System Copy:  MS SQL Server-Specific Procedure.  Also, be sure to check out the chapter on Copying the Database Only - Refresh.  Basically, it says to run SWPM on the target database instance, choosing <Product> -> <Database> -> System Copy -> Target System -> <System_Variant> -> Based on AS ABAP (or other as appropriate) -> Database Refresh or Move.

    members, but I don't understand the purpose of static
    members.
    Can someone try to explain the main points of static
    members and the differences between static and
    non-static members?Static means only one per class. If you have a Class and generate 20 objects of this class or more, they all share the same copies of any static variables. This is as opposed to instance variables of which each Object has its own. If an object changes one of its instance variables, this doesn't affect another object's instance variables.
    Having said this, however, vague and general questions are great if you are face to face with a tutor where you can have a conversation but are very difficult to answer in this format. Your best bet is to go through several online articles (and there are many good ones, just google for them) and then coming back with specific questions. Another option is to go through a book or two. Most have a chapter covering this.

  • System Center Advisor Gateway requirements

    What kind of machine should we use for the System Center Advisor Gateway?
    I can find anything that mentions that.  We dont really want to use one of our mgmt servers.
    Thanks
    Thanks Lance

    The purpose of System Center Advisor Gateway  is sending data to the web service and to receive updated configuration information from the web service in behalf of agent. when you plan the Advisor gateway requirement, the file space of the server is
    the most critical factor to consider.
    The factors should be consider:
    1) number of agents per gateway
    2) The average size of the data transfer from the agent to gateway per day.
    3) Archival period for keeping data on the gateway
    By default each agent uploads CAB files to the gateway twice per day. The size of the CAB files depends on the configuration of the machine (such as number of SQL engines and number databases) and the health of the machine (e.g. the number of alerts generated).
    In most cases, the daily upload size is typically less than 100 KB.
    e.g. daily upload size: 100KB per agent
          number of agents: 5
          archival period: 5 days(default)
    estimated space required: 5 x 100KB x 5  ~ 2500KB

    hello all
    can u please tell me why my system get slow.
    however, it is working good early days.

    ORACLE 9 i installed.
    if it is due to coockies then tell me how could i remove this?

    if it is due to coockies then tell me how could i remove this?
    Most likely that's not cookie related.
    If your sole purpose is to test Oracle, it will be better to install XE instead of EE on your PC. XE will require few memory than EE. With 128M it's hard to test any advanced feature of EE anyway.

  • How to Install Windows 8.1 Preview on a Lenovo B575

    First off, if you try to do it the normal way (eg, download ISO and burn to DVD) it will fail miserably and you will end up with an installation that hangs during a shutdown and/or restart plus some features may not work (like your wireless perhaps) so here's how to get it to work by doing a USB Legacy installation workaround:
    1- Download the Win 8.1 ISO and use a utility like ISO to USB to make it bootable via a USB stick.
    2- Once installed on the USB stick, delete the EFI folder and the efibootmgr file  (on the new USB stick).
    Note: This will force a Legacy USB installation - see image for more info.
    3- Complete the installation using the modified USB stick and you will end up with a correct Legacy installation.
    Note: It is very important to delete all existing partitions as part of the "clean install" process.
    Note: See image of Disk Management below.
    Now, there is only one problem left to solve and that is how to create a backup system image because this feature has been removed in 8.1 and doesn't work in Win 8.0 (with a B575) so what to do? The simple alternative is to use a free 3rd party utility like Macrium Reflect Free to create and restore your system images as required. BTW, 8.1 seems to be working nicely but I would not recommend upgrading your primary PC/laptop to take it for a test drive. In my case, I have a test rig for those purposes. Good luck.
    BTW, see my tale of woe on installing Win 8.0 (similar to here):
     http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaCentre-Desktops-Home-Servers/Lenovo-B575-Update-to-Windows-8-Issue/t...
    Moderator Note; subject edited.  Windows 8.1 is not yet a supported operating system, members installing it do so at their own risk.

    Here is a screenshot of the 8.1 Preview on the B575 (desktop view):
    Link to picture
    Here is Macrium Reflect Free preparing for a system image backup:
    Link to picture
    Now, if you are so inclined to attempt this installation, I would strongly recommend the follow recovery actions:
    1-Download Macrium Reflect Free and make a System Image Backup for recovery to Win 7
    2-Install Win 8.1 as previously described.
    Also note that I have installed the new Classic Shell Beta that works nicely with the return of the Win start button.
    Please understand that all information provided is not an encouragement to attempt an installation of the 8.1 Preview on your Lenovo B575; however, it is intended to help you get through this installation if you are a curious sort (like me) and it is also intended to avoid issues when attempting this upgrade  to your B575 laptop. With that said, I would strongly advise against attempting this upgrade; especially if your laptop is considered a primary computer. The only reason I can do this without fear of consequences is that I use my B575 as a "test rig" to assist others with complexed situations so I am "routinely" switching back and forth between Win 7, Win 8.0, and Win 8.1 as needed. So, take heed and good luck with any decisions you may make.

  • Just some ideas would be nice

    Hi,
    Looking around for some innovative ideas for a project(FYP), I want to base my FYP on J2EE and/or J2ME, something like a front-end implementation(either web-based/mobile device) talking to back-end(mySQL/server integrated) through JSP. Mainly I want to play with JSP,Servlet,EJB,JDBC. I have a basic understanding of this technologies so it will be good to go in deep down.
    However, I am lacking some ideas, as to which route to take, whether to explore J2ME with J2EE at this point or whether web-based systems are what i should be developing compared to mobile device systems. basically where is the demand now a days in the industry?.
    It looks like most of the innovative/useful systems have been thought about/developed, (flight booking, shopping carts, online banking systems etc). Are there any web or mobile device based purposeful/useful system need researching/developing? something that could help the community. any ideas are very welcome.
    I would appreciate any help.
    thanks

    I think you have to pay more than 10 Duke Dollars for a lucrative idea. give me a lucrative idea, priceless!
    One that will teach Senator Orrin Hatch that
    destroying a few million computers for the sake of the
    entertainment industry is a bad idea.its the $18,000 which he earned in songwriting royalties which is talking and as long as he gets his CDs available on his website, he doesnt care about others. http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,980890,00.html
    I think Randy Saaf of MediaDefender tried educating him about this, so there is no need to come up with a whole system to teach such a person.
    However, i do not support copyright abuses. not fair.
    anymore ideas?
    You could kill two buzzwords with one stone, and develop a mobile->device app with J2ME that uses web services to communicate with a >server. Maybe it could be for buying movie tickets or something. 2-in-1, thought about it, even an m-commerce system such as m-banking system, reading about it, the security issues involving a bank is a project on its own. what you think of the idea?
    It looks like most of the innovative/useful systems have been thought about/developed...
    Why does it have to be original? Why not just pick something that's already done and make one that's faster/better in some way?
    That's what Microsoft always does :-) Considering this too.
    Here's and idea, write this for the SEC's members and you'll make a fortune.
    http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=74&ncid=74&e=3&u=/cmp/20030619/tc_cmp/10700408thanks will read about it.
    just to make things clear, I dont want a quick-get-rich scheme or a fortune yet, just a decent project where i can research & learn the technology.
    thank you all for your time, more ideas are always welcome.

    2. Oracle 9i Instance Workload Information
    1) Instance cache information:
    Cache Sizes (end)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Buffer Cache: 704M Std Block Size: 8K
    Shared Pool Size: 256M Log Buffer: 1,024K
    2) Load profile Information:
    Load profile Information은 Oracle 8i와 9i가 모두 동일하다.
    각 항목들의 의미는 다음과 같다.
    Redo size: This is the amount of redo generated during this report.
    Logical Reads: This is calculated as Consistent Gets + DB Block Gets = Logical Reads
    Block changes: The number of blocks modified during the sample interval
    Physical Reads: The number of requests for a block that caused a physical I/O.
    Physical Writes: The number of physical writes issued.
    User Calls: The number of queries generated
    Parses: Total of all parses: both hard and soft
    Hard Parses: Those parses requiring a completely new parse of the
    SQL statement. These consume both latches and shared pool area.
    Soft Parses: Not listed but derived by subtracting the hard parses
    from parses. A soft parse reuses a previous hard parse
    and hence consumes far fewer resources.
    Sorts, Logons, Executes and Transactions are all self explanatory
  • Swap space problem on Windows XP
    I'm trying to install BI Publisher on Windows XP from a zip file downloaded last week (version 10.1.3.3.2). However after starting setup.exe in the install directory I get the message that my swap space = 0 Mb while 500 Mb is required. After this the installation procedure quits.
    I haven't got a clue as what the installer is referring to (swap on windows?) but I have plenty of room om my two (logical) disks, no spaces in the directory name from which I start the installer (D:\download\bipublisher\Windows\OBI\install) and about 1.5 Gb of memory free.
    Any hints what to do would be appreciated.
    tia,
    Martin
    Hi Mjb001,
    In computer operating systems that have their main memory divided into pages, paging (sometimes called swapping) is a transfer of pages between main memory and an auxiliary store, such as hard disk drive.[1] Paging is an important part of virtual memory implementation in most contemporary general-purpose operating systems, allowing them to easily use disk storage for data that does not fit into physical RAM. Paging is usually implemented as a task built into the kernel of the operating system.
    Windows 3.x creates a hidden file named 386SPART.PAR or WIN386.SWP for use as a swap file. It is generally found in the root directory, but it may appear elsewhere (typically in the WINDOWS directory). Its size depends on how much swap space the system has (a setting selected by the user under Control Panel → Enhanced under "Virtual Memory"). Please check this file.
  • FBL5N Report
    Hi Gurus,
    When I run the FBL5N report, I was not able to find the Assignment field information for Manual invoices. Normally the Assignment field should be displayed with the same document number of the particular invoice.
    Can anyone help me where the setting could be done?
    Thanks for the support!
    JBC
    This has to depend on several factors, firstly if you done an invoice from SD/FI, there should be a sort key in the customer profile in FD02 at the company code area > acct mgt tab > sort key.
    Key for sorting according to assignment numbers
    Indicates the layout rule for the Allocation field in the document line item.
    Use
    The system uses a standard sort sequence for displaying line items. Among other things, it sorts the items according to the content of the Allocation field. This field can be filled either manually or automatically (by the system) when a document line item is entered.
    For this purpose, the system requires rules that determine which information is to be taken from the document header or from the document line item and placed in the field. The rules can be stored in the master record of an account which enables you to determine the standard sort sequence on an account-specific basis.
    Note
    Field information from another document line item cannot be adopted into the field of a particular item.
    There are also sort keys that is defined at GL acct level at FS00 per company/GL acct> control data tab > sort key, that u can specify how to update the Assignment fields.
