Purpose of the 1.1.4 firmware update

What was the purpose of this update?

When you update to 1.1.4, a screen appears to describe the changes: in this case, all it said was that 1.1.4 was intended to fix known bugs (1.1.3 and below). In other words, no new features. It's likely that some behind-the-scenes prep for SDK-related apps was also included, but this is just speculation. So, if you were having problems with out of order SMS, for example, then you hopefully will find this fixed with 1.1.4. If you had no problems with 1.1.3 (and many did), then you'll see no differences between 1.1.3 and 1.1.4.
When version 2.0 comes out in late June, we'll see many more changes - features and apps.

I downloaded and installed the: Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.6 on my mac mini running 10.8.1, was I correct in doing this ?
I didn't see this update come up in "Software Update"
If I was not meant to install this update, would it cause ANY damage at all to my mac ( this is my second as I dropped the first )
If I were to re-install ML would this fix any errors that this may have caused ?
The bottom of the page I link to says:
Boot ROM or SMC Version Information: MM51.0077.10
But when I click on "About this Mac" it says:
    Boot ROM Version:          MM51.0077.B10
      SMC Version (system):          1.75f0
What does the additional "B" mean?
My mac mini is the Mid 2011 Model.
I am sorry if I am sounding super paranoid about this, but I don't want to have caused any permanent damage.

    Hello,
It's somewhere between almost impossible & impossible to install the wrong EFI Update with all the checks it does!

No, Firmware is unaffected by any OS change or re-install.

  • Battery Life and the 1.4f10 SMC Firmware Update.

Since the 1.4f10 SMC Firmware Update makes the fan to run constantly at a low speed, will that affect the battery life?
Anyone notice any big decrease on battery life?
    thanks.
    Lok

The fan should account for a pretty small amount of total energy consumption in any notebook computer (my guess would be about 2%) - but that assumes it kicks on once in a while and not running constantly.
Since the upgrade, my fan has been running non-stop while on AC with peripherals plugged in, but not as much when I disconnect everything and run on battery. I think the battery is driaining faster but I do not have good data pre-upgrade. It would be great if someone could post a pre and post upgrade battery performance test. If you do, make sure to do a callibration first: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86284

  • Anybody else having trouble running the GeForce 7300 GT Firmware update?

The GeForce 7300 GT firmware upgrade doesn't seem to work for me.
I have a 2.66GHz Mac Pro w/ 3GB RAM that was purchased back in May. It has the stock 250GB HD (no partitioning) in drive bay 1 and two 300GB drives for audio files and iTunes in drive bays 2 & 3. I am only using one monitor. While viewing the system profile, my GeForce 7300 GT has these specs:
    Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
    Device ID: 0x0393
    Revision ID: 0x00a1
    ROM Revision: 3004
The update downloads and installs fine through Software Update, but as soon as I run it to actually begin the update process, I get this message:
Necessary resources are missing, corrupt, or you do not have the correct permissions.
Delete the Geforce 7300 GT Firmware Update and re-download it and run it again.
    item: 6
I have re-downloaded it a number of times (either thru Software Update or direct from the Apple site) and I've verified/repaired permissions with disk utility as well, but I still get the same result. I've had no issues at all with my video since owning this machine, so I'm at a loss as to why this is happening.
    Any ideas?

    Hi All,
Some basic chunk of our monitor settings are stored
in PRAM, now I can't think of any specifics that will
result in the error massage you got but still for a
real "clean" update try resetting PRAM
(<Command-Option-P-R> before the gray screen) and
    then applying the update.

  • HT3728 Firmware Update 7.6.4 Error: I uploaded the 7.6.4 firmware update today, and received an error message as it was finalising. As I am using my Time Capsule as the Airport router, I am now no longer able to access it to try to resolve the problem. He

    Dear Support Team,
I agreed to the Time Capsule 7.6.4 update today, but as it was completing, I received an error. It said to close the page and try again.
I use my Time Capsule as my Airport wireless router and now can't access the Time Capsule to re-upload the Firmware update.
Has anyone else had this happen?
Is there a way to resolve the problem?
Do I need to hardwire the Time Capsule? Then what?
    Would really appreciate some help!!
    Thanks everyone.

Factory reset the TC and it should come back to life.
    The Factory Reset.
    Power down the TC.
Hold in reset. and keep holding it in. Be Gentle! It is a tiny surface mount switch with a plastic lever.. Attempting to push it out the other side of the TC will not make the switch turn on better.
(I fix TC and have several reset levers bent over and jammed or broken off).
Power on the TC.. remember with the reset held in.. this needs three arms.. a friend or power switch you can get to with your feet..
Keep holding in reset for about 10sec until the front LED flashes rapidly.
Release reset and wait .. the boot will be slow as it deletes previous setting.. only from router side and pulls out the factory defaults. No files are deleted on the hard disk.. but the name of the TC may change.
As a rule .. wireless is not reliable enough for mission critical work like firmware upgrades.. (Heck I don't think it is reliable enough for backups).
Apple doesn't insist on wired connections.. some other manufacturers do.. and post warnings not to attempt it over wireless. Warnings inevitably read after the failed firmware update btw.. so perhaps Apple have decided to just save themselves the hassle.
I believe it is just good practice to use ethernet for any time that sitting on a branch.. whilst sawing it off (ie failure will kill any future access).. means you always use ethernet for any setting up of a wireless router.. but you see I am old.. with grey/white hair.. and too many dead modems and routers around me.

  • Why does my retina MBPro and the projector go blank, when connecting with HDMI? This worked fine until the latest OS and firmware update.

Connecting through HDMI worked fine, until the recent firmware update and the 10.7.5 OS update. Now, both retina display and projector dosplay go blank, with the screen coming back when unplugged from the projector.

    Clone your system.
    Never apply updates w/o one.
And yes there is a page with all the Apple Downloads to do manually and then you can keep it on hand. Same for the OS X Lion or ML installer - save them before running. Still on 10.6.8 so you have OS X 10.6 DVD.
Combo updates do not do any harm. There could be issues to the drive directory beforehand.
Mac Pro has been shipping with Lion since summer 2011, though you can even now still reinstall iwth 10.6.4+

  • Does the MacBook need a Firmware update?

    Hi there,
I was wondering if with this little beast we needs an Update regarding its CPU (Firmware).
    Thanks in advance guys.

To run Boot Camp, no. For anything else… that's really up to the Apple-update Gods. Most Macs have at least one firmware update in their lifetimes.

  • The iPod Freezes after Firmware Update 1.2

I just updated my ipod to the firmware version 1.2 and instantly after the update the ipod started to mal-function.
I hope to god this isnt going to become one of those issues that is overlooked by Apple.
If anyone has any suggestions, or ways to fix this or a similar problem, please do not hesitate to post.

I too had this happen to me. Ipod works great before update. I install itunes7 and update firmware and then it starts freezing during song/podcast or video playback. It has to be reset by holding Menu and center button. I tried a restore on it thinking it didn't update correctly. I re-synced by entire library (which takes a while). That didn't help. So I went back to 1.1.2 update
All I did was uninstall Itunes7 and then got the 06-28 update from the another site and installed and restored my ipod. Reinstalled intunes7 and unchecked update automatically. And re-sync all my library.
3 hours I will never get back. But my ipod works again.
I posted a story to digg about this in the hopes of get Apple to respond that there are major problems with 1.2 update.
    Please digg my story

  • How do I know if the MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.4 was installed

I just ran the Software Update and the 10.6.5 update the the SMC 1.4 update were available. Both required a reboot and I didn't think I should update both at the same time. I did the 10.6.5 update first then after it completed I did the SMC 1.4 update.
The SMC update installed just as the knowledge base page said it would. But how do I know if it was installed?
My SMC firmware is at version 1.27f3. The MacBook Pro is version 4,1.
    David.

    Thanks for the info.
I guess the only other question I have is, was the firmware already at 1.27f3 before the update or was it updated to the version?
    David.

  • Does the Audible 2.2x_ firmware update really fix battery iss

i've been reading that the audible firmware fix takes care of the battery conflict.
    is this true?

The new firmware that adds Audible support also reduces the standby time to 4 hours, which is the same change that was in the previous PDE firmware (referred to as the battery drain fix).

  • Wish List in the upcoming Apple's firmware update

Just to name a few basic one:
    1.Calendar - To add/edit calendar.
1.Mail - To read/write emails. I can read my email offline.
    2.Tasks - To organize/manage daily tasks.
    3.Notes - To take notes.
With WiFi build-in, its abundant that IPod Touch can do. It will be a pity if we can only use it for iTunes Music Store and Web-browsing.

    Me too!
What makes Iphone expensive than Ipod Touch are the phone/text capabilities, bluetooth, build-in camera... I don't see the reasons to remove the Iphone's widgets from Ipod Touch. Nevertheless, I do hope that one day, widgets from Iphone will be made available to Ipod Touch so that we can all enjoy the device in its completeness.
Yah. By the way, it would be excellent if we can have an eBook reader. With this, we can read ebooks and listen to music on the go. It will be a perfect combination.

  • Mifi 4510L Mifi Hotspot...is it the network? and what about the firmware update?

I have spent several months trying to seek a solution on the repeated and frequent disconnects from the Verizon wireless network using my Mifi 4510 L.  No success.  I have conversed with Verizon Wireless "experts" on this matter and have basically been ignored, since they do not have a solution. It has cost me a pretty penny in wireless costs due to lost connections in downloads, etc...for which I do not get any credit from Verizon on my wireless bill...go figure.
I have even been accused by Verizon that the problem is my computer and hardware, even though I have ran several hardware, software, and "real-life" connection checks on other wireless networks with no issues at all.  I even have been getting better connectivity when I use my Verizon USB UML290...but I hate having to switch moving my SIM card from the USB Modem to the MIfi4510L...one of these days the SIM card will fail. Verizon has checked the signal strength at my home and work locations (which I already knew as good), but never heard back from them.
Anyway,  I have verified that my wireless network adapter works just fine on other wireless networks (no dropouts, etc).  I have even upgraded to another Windows Operating System - Windows 7...which is more superior than Vista in dealing with wireless communications.  I have implemented quite a number of the solutions provided by other great Verizon Wireless Community members, but the connectivity problems continue to occur.
When I did a review of my wireless hardware logs, I noticed that when I was encountering problems, the dynamically assigned address given to me on the Verizon Wireless network changed quite a bit, even when I was using the same web site. When my wireless connection worked fine, the dynamically assigned address was consistent.  This seemed to change when I encounter peak network load times.
I would appreciate a straight answer from Verizon Wireless on what is going on with the network.  I live in a solid 3G coverage area...but just far away from 4G to benefit for the increased throughput.  The closest 4G location footprint is about 40 miles away from me.
Finally, what about the Mifi 4510 L firmware update?  I have yet to see any notification about this firmware update, either through normal e-mail channels or even through my Mifi configuration site
    http://192.168.1.1/mifi.cgi
    What gives?
I realize that I am sounding a little perturbed about this matter, but it has been almost 4 months now...and Verizon is not living up to their part of the bargain on providing good tech support on the Mifi 4510L.  When they do not have an answer...they ignore the customer.   Not good business!!!

The firmware update was released a few weeks ago and there were multiple threads in this forum for it:
Software Update: Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot MiFi™ 4510L
The firmware update primarily addresses a problem with the MiFi switching from 3G to 4G and back.  I would not expect it to resolve a connection issue for anyone in a 3G only area.  Work through the firmware update instructions included in the link above and see if it helps.
There were no email notifications but the MiFi should have been redirecting you to the MiFi homepage every time you tried to browse the internet.  The firmware update is mandatory so if you have not already completed the update then there might be something wrong with your device.
