Python/C# class inherit from Labview Class

Hello everyone,
Is there any way to subclass a labview object with a class written in another langauge say python or a .net language?
For example, I have a generic Camera.lvclass that I would like to implement for a specific camera. However, I would like to code the subclass in python.
My first thought was to write the python code, and then wrap it in the labview subclass using the labPython tool. Is there a better way?
Thanks
labjunky.

no. a class can only inherit from one class. you can implement multiple interfaces.

• Inherit from c++ class

Is it possible for an objective-c++ class to inherit a c++ class?
I have a TON of c++ code written, but need to incorporate that into an iPhone app.
For example, consider the following cpp and mm files:
// myCPlusPlus.cpp
myCPlusPlus
virtual int cPlusPlusMethod01(someClass obj1, someClass obj2) = 0;
// myObjcClass.mm
@interface myObjcClass : myCPlusPlus // <-------is this possible being that it's a c++ class?
@end
If that's not possible, what do you recommend? Write a wrapper?
thx,
Zakk

zakkhoyt wrote:
* Objective-C++ strives to allow C++ class instances to serve as instance variables. This is possible as long as the C++ class in question (along with all of its superclasses) does not have any virtual member functions defined. If any virtual member functions are present, the C++ class may not serve as an Objective-C instance variable.
So, it turns out that I still have a problem because the architecture of our code has many classes with pure virtual functions. What now? This figures.... It'll cover every problem except mine. I really really want to keep the class interface in tact.
Any other ideas (without having to rewrite any c++ code)?
You are misreading what that really means. It specifically says "instances", not "pointers". To quote that document:
#import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h>
struct Class0 { void foo(); };
struct Class1 { virtual void foo(); };
struct Class2 { Class2(int i, int j); };
@interface Foo : NSObject {
Class0 class0; // OK
Class1 class1; // ERROR!
Class1 *ptr; // OK—call 'ptr = new Class1()' from Foo's init,
// 'delete ptr' from Foo's dealloc
Class2 class2; // WARNING - constructor not called!
@end
class0 is an instance. That is OK because it has a default constructor and no virtual functions.
class1 is also an instance. This is not OK because it has a virtual function.
ptr is the same as class1, only it is a pointer instead of an instance. This is OK. See the comments above and my own, earlier reply.
class2 is out due to the constructor.
To wrap up, you are fine. Just write some wrappers.

• Accessing Enclosing Class Members From Inner Class Subclass

I have the following scenario that I cannot get to work. Notice the comments in B.doWork() for the problem code. In B.doWork(), how do I access m_strA?
* A.java
* Created on July 5, 2002, 2:20 PM
package Projects.InnerTrouble.Files;
public class A {
public abstract class InnerA {
public abstract void doWork ();
public String m_strA;
/** Creates new A */
public A ()
new InnerA() {
public void doWork ()
System.out.println("A$InnerA$1's doWork() called!");
m_strA = "Annonymous subclass of InnerA's doWork did this";
}.doWork();
* @param args the command line arguments
public static void main (String args[])
A oTemp = new A();
System.out.println(oTemp.m_strA);
B.getB(oTemp).doWork();
System.out.println(oTemp.m_strA);
class B extends A.InnerA {
public B (A a)
a.super();
public void doWork ()
System.out.println("B's doWork() called!");
// How do I access m_strA within B's doWork() method? The following is what I would expect to be the answer, but it does not compile
// A.this.m_strA = "B's doWork did this";
private static A.InnerA sm_oInnerA;
public static A.InnerA getB (A a)
if (sm_oInnerA == null)
sm_oInnerA = new B(a);
return (sm_oInnerA);

The whole point is that B is not an inner class of A
so it does not have access to A's member variables.
Eventhough B extends an inner class of A, that does
not make B an inner class of A. That is in the JLS,
but not so elegantly as I have put it, hehe.
If B were an innerclass of InnerA, then it would
qualify to access A's member variables.OK, I think that you are finally getting through to my thick skull on this one. Let me restate and get your check-off on my understanding of the situation.
The only classes with access to A's this reference are A and inner classes of A that are found within the definition of A. So, despite the fact that A and B are in the same package (and B should have access to A's non-private members because B and A are in the same package), and despite the fact that we would normally state that B "is a" InnerA (which is an inner class of A and would have access to a reference to the A.this reference), B is not allowed access to A.this (because B "is not really a" InnerA in the same way that the anonymous implementation of InnerA "is a" InnerA). However, nothing would prevent me from giving B access to a reference of the enclosing A as long as it was done via a method of InnerA, and as long as the implementation of that method is contained in A's implementation.
Does this "access" rule realy make sense? Are you aware of the justification for this rule? Or is the justification stated in the JLS? I would think that the compiler ought to be able to figure this kind of thing out and allow it. It seems to me the fact that I defined B in the way that I did, and the fact that B "is a" InnerA, implies that I desired a fairly tight relationship to A. In fact, I desired the exact relationship that exists for the anonymous implementation of InnerA.
The following is a modified version of my original example that runs as I originally wanted it to, but works around the access rules discussed on this forum thread:
* A.java
* Created on July 5, 2002, 2:20 PM
package Projects.InnerTrouble.Files;
public class A {
public abstract class InnerA {
public abstract void doWork ();
/** added to allow implementors of InnerA that are not enclosed in A's class definition to have access to the enclosing class */
public A myEnclosingInstance ()
return (A.this);
public String m_strA;
/** Creates new A */
public A ()
new InnerA() {
public void doWork ()
System.out.println("A$InnerA$1's doWork() called!");
m_strA = "Annonymous subclass of InnerA's doWork did this";
}.doWork();
* @param args the command line arguments
public static void main (String args[])
A oTemp = new A();
System.out.println(oTemp.m_strA);
B.getB(oTemp).doWork();
System.out.println(oTemp.m_strA);
class B extends A.InnerA {
public B (A a)
a.super();
public void doWork ()
System.out.println("B's doWork() called!");
// The following is what I would expect to be the answer, but it does not compile
// A.this.m_strA = "B's doWork did this";
// added myEnclosingInstance() to get functionality desired above
myEnclosingInstance().m_strA = "B's doWork did this";
private static A.InnerA sm_oInnerA;
public static A.InnerA getB (A a)
if (sm_oInnerA == null)
sm_oInnerA = new B(a);
return (sm_oInnerA);

• Missing Class error from handler class - urgent question!

Hi,
I am getting an "Missing Class" error when running a web service. The web service was generated from a Java class via the "create J2EE web service" option.
The web service has a JAX-RPC handler class added, which belongs to the same package as a logging class. The logging class is used to write to a file for debug purposes. A "missing class" error is being generated whenever I attempt to invoke the web service (via the enterprise manager test util), the error refers to the logging class which is used by the main handler class. The JAX-RPC handler works fine by itself, the error is only seen when I attempt to use the logging class.
I have re-built, re-deployed from scratch again, but still get the same error! Am I missing something simple here?
thanks for any advice

So once this was done I wanted to link the JTree to a mysql database. So I found a sample .java file on the net:

package AmplifierDesign;
import java.awt.*;
import java.sql.*;
import java.util.*;

import javax.swing.tree.*;
public class JTreeStructure extends JFrame {
Connection con = null;
Statement st = null;
ResultSet rs = null;
//public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception {

public JTreeStructure() throws Exception {

String driver = "com.mysql.jdbc.Driver";
String url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost:8889/";
String db = "icons";
ArrayList list = new ArrayList();
list.add("Laser Objects");
Class.forName(driver);
con = DriverManager.getConnection(url + db, "root", "root");
try {
String sql = "Select * from fiberComponents";
st = con.createStatement();
rs = st.executeQuery(sql);
while (rs.next()) {
Object value[] = {"Fiber Components",rs.getString(2) };
list.add(value);
} catch (Exception e) {
System.out.println(e);
rs.close();
st.close();
con.close();
Object hierarchy[] = list.toArray();
JFrame frame = new JFrame();
frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
Container content = getContentPane();
DefaultMutableTreeNode root = processHierarchy(hierarchy);
JTree tree = new JTree(root);
content.add(new JScrollPane(tree), BorderLayout.CENTER);
setSize(275, 300);
setLocation(300, 100);
setVisible(true);
private DefaultMutableTreeNode processHierarchy(Object[] hierarchy) {
DefaultMutableTreeNode node = new DefaultMutableTreeNode(hierarchy[0]);
DefaultMutableTreeNode child;
for (int i = 1; i < hierarchy.length; i++) {
Object nodeSpecifier = hierarchy;
if (nodeSpecifier instanceof Object[]) // Ie node with children
child = processHierarchy((Object[]) nodeSpecifier);
} else {
child = new DefaultMutableTreeNode(nodeSpecifier); // Ie Leaf
node.add(child);
return (node);
The problem is when I run my program two windows open up. The original one with JTree1, and the panel and horizontal splitplane and another window with a new tree component that did get its objects from the database. My question is how do I "replace" the JTree1 with the new tree created from the second java file?
Or additionally, maybe I could set the data for JTree1 from within the second java file?

Another way to do this is to manually place the tags into your code by placing the tag [code] above your pasted code and the tag [code] below your pasted code like so:
[code]

• How can I make a member of one class accessible from another class?

I thought by making a data member protected it was available to all members of the package, but the compiler is giving me an error. If I put the class name dot the data object it thinks it is a function and gives an error.

I can't post actual code or I'll get in trouble.
I can't create an instance of A because the class
needing to call the structure is a Thread and there
will be multiple instances of it.
I need one solid structure and it can't be static
because it has to be ablet o change.So you can't use a static and you can't use an instance. So how exactly do you ever access A?
BTW you are describing the impossible so you need to take a deep breath and give an explanation that makes even a modicum of sense. Hint: what you have described thus far is nonsensical enough that nobody is going to want to steal your precious code trust me.

• Inheritance from CNiGraph class

I create a new class inheriting from CNiGraph class, and add codes which display a popup menu when OnRButtonDown event occurs in the new class. However, all menu items are grayed and cannot be changed using MF_ENABLED flag.
If I create a new class inheriting from CButton class and repeat the same process, the menu is enabled. Or if I directly respond to OnRButtonDown event of CNiGraph class, everything is ok as well.
So, how to inherit a class in Measurement Studio?

VI server properties are grouped by more and more specific as you go from top to bottom. This property is in the bottom set. LabVIEW 2009 SP1 version attached.

• How to call a static method of a class from another class?

Hello,
I have two classes in a package. The first one
package my package;
public class class1
protected static ImageIcon createIcon(String path)
The second one
package my package;
public class class2
private ImageIcon image1;
image1 = class1.createIcon("/mypath");
This does not work since class2 cannot load the appropriate image. Where do I have to define the ImageIcon variables in class one or two and do they have to be static variables?
Thanks in advance
Christos

If the two classes are in the same package, that will work, in fact. A trivial example:
package foo;
public class Foo1 {
protected static String getString() {
return "World";
// Note: Member of the same package
package foo;
public class Foo2 {
public static void main(String[] argv) {
System.out.println("Hello "+ foo.Foo1.getString());
}However, if they are in different packages that won't work - the protected keyword guarantees that only classes derived from the class with the protected method can access it: Therefore this will not work:
package foo;
public class Foo1 {
protected static String getString() {
return "World";
package foo.bar;
public class Foo2{
public static void main(String[] argv) {
System.out.println("Hello "+ foo.Foo1.getString());
}But this will:
package foo;
public class Foo1 {
protected static String getString() {
return "World";
package foo.bar;
public class Foo2 extends foo.Foo1 {
public static void main(String[] argv) {
System.out.println("Hello "+ foo.Foo1.getString());
}I think you should read up a bit more about packages and inheritance, because you're going to have a lot of trouble without a good understanding of both. Try simple examples first, like the above, and if you hit problems try to produce a simple test case to help you understand the problem rather than trying to debug your whole application.

• Migrating from eVC++4.0 to VS2008: Menu Bar not coming for class inherited from CProterty sheet

We are migrating code developed in eVC++4.0 to Visual Studio 2008. We are facing a Problem as descripted below. We are using Pocket PC 2003 emulator.
We are creating a class inherited from CPropertySheet. As below:
In Header File:
class COptionsSheet :
public CPropertySheet
DECLARE_DYNAMIC(COptionsSheet)
#if(WINVER == 0x400)// This works for MenuBAr inherited from CDialog classes.
CCommandBar m_cb;
#else
CCeCommandBar m_cb;
#endif
public:
virtual BOOL OnInitDialog();
We are drawing menu bar on the property window as below:
In .CPP file:
IMPLEMENT_DYNAMIC(COrderSheet, CPropertySheet)
BEGIN_MESSAGE_MAP(COrderSheet, CPropertySheet)
ON_COMMAND(ID_CUSTOMER_COLLECTPAYMENT, OnCustomerCollectpayment)
ON_WM_INITMENUPOPUP()
ON_NOTIFY(GN_CONTEXTMENU, 0, OnContextMenu)
END_MESSAGE_MAP()
BOOL COrderSheet::OnInitDialog()
BOOL bResult = CPropertySheet::OnInitDialog();
m_cb.Create(this);//This we have changed for VS 2008 as menu was not appearing for class inherited from CDialog class as well. In eVC++
4.0 code we have used. Please see m_cb in header file discription
m_cb.InsertMenuBar(IDR_ORDER1);// This calis unable to draw mwnu bar
CMenu *pMenu = CWnd::GetMenu();
//pMenu becomes NULL in very next line as we are passing it as parameter below.
gPromotion.LoadSalesPromotions(pMenu,
"Sales", SRC_TRACE_START);
We tried this as well but it’s also not working:
CMenu *pMenu = new CMenu;
BOOL cehckStatus = pMenu->LoadMenu(IDR_ORDER1);
SetMenu(pMenu);
CRect r; GetWindowRect(&r);
r.bottom += GetSystemMetrics(SM_CYMENU);
MoveWindow(r);
Do we have to change or add something more for the menu bar in case of Property Sheet. Is there any change between eVC++ and Visual studio 2008 that we need to incorporate here.

• Create Class objects from an Array of File Objects

Hi There,
I'm having extreme difficulty in trying to convert an array of file objects to Class objects. My problem is as follows: I'm using Jfilechooser to select a directory and get an array of files of which are all .class files. I want to create Class objects from these .class files. Therefore, i can extract all the constructor, method and field information. I eventually want this class information to display in a JTree. Very similar to the explorer used in Netbeans. I've already created some code below, but it seems to be throwing a NoSuchMethodError exception. Can anyone please help??
Thanks in advance,
Vikash

} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
} // end of if loop
} // end of for loop
packageName2.setText(dir.getPath());
}

It's throwing the exeption on the line:
FileClassLoader loader = new FileClassLoader(allfiles[k]);
I'm sure its something to do with the extended class i've created. but i cant seem to figure it out..
Thanks if you can figure it out
