Python2.7: Attribute Error in xml.sax.saxutils.XMLGenerator

Hi there,
after switching from Ubuntu to Arch Linux I noticed a disturbing problem
in a Python script I wrote (see
http://sourceforge.net/projects/emcdutilityprog/files/).
Using Windows (Python 2.6) and Ubuntu 11.04 (Python 2.7) I did not
experience any problems.
Using Arch Linux (Python 2.7) I got the following errors:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/local/bin/emcd", line 1663, in settings_dialog
    self.settings.dialog(self.window)
  File "/usr/local/bin/emcd", line 1502, in dialog
    self.save()
  File "/usr/local/bin/emcd", line 1445, in save
    self.prepare_writing()
  File "/usr/local/bin/emcd", line 1414, in prepare_writing
self.xmltree.startElementNS((None,u'EELS-GUI-Settings'),u'EELS-GUI-Settings',attrs,True)
  File "/usr/local/bin/emcd", line 1352, in startElementNS
    self._write('\t'*self.counter)
AttributeError: Generator instance has no attribute '_write'
I'm using the '_write' method in an instance Generator, which has
xml.sax.saxutils.XMLGenerator as parent. I'm using it to make the
resulting xml file more readable for humans.
Have you encountered a similar problem? Maybe you could suggest me some
possible solutions to my little problem?
Thanks a lot
Andi

Poking deeper, I got a reproduceable segfault in my script, which appears to be limited to Arch Linux, too. Has anybody made a similar experience?
The problem appears to be in line 1172 of the script, where a method is connected to a GTK event. As far as I can tell, the problem is not in the callback method edit_meta as this method does not even get started.
Any ideas?

    Hi!
    Read this site, maybe the solution is on the bottom of the page:
    http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/91517/0/
    "3. Verify this file to be a valid xml file. There should be no unwanted extra lines after the last element either."
    "4. Make necessary changes in the file. Save the file."
    "5. Try to deploy the application again."

  • XML - SAX Parsing Question

    Hi,
    I am parsing XML using SAX parser and fill the values into the HashTable ( like Key value pair ).. so i can get the vaues for a particular key using hash get function.
    For the following XML. There are 2 "subscriberNumber" attribute, one is under "sn:Subscriber" and the another is under "sn:SubscriberChange".
    I can able to put this values in hash table and when i print the Hash table it is printing as sn:subscriberNumber=[1234567890, 1234567890] .. But how will i know which one is from "sn:Subscriber" and which is from "sn:SubscriberChange"
    This is the XML :
    <sn:SubscriberNotification>
    <sn:notificationSubType>1120</sn:notificationSubType>
    <sn:Subscriber>
         <cng:PaymentType>PostPaid</cng:PaymentType>
         <sn:subscriberNumber>1234567890</sn:subscriberNumber>
    </sn:Subscriber>
    <sn:SubscriberChange>
         <sn:subscriberNumber>1234567890</sn:subscriberNumber>
    </sn:SubscriberChange>
    </sn:SubscriberNotification>
    Any suggestion and pointers are really helpful
    Thanks,

    Just for anyone else who hits this problem: I encountered the same issue with an XML document that XMLSpy claims is quite well formed. I opened the document in a hex editor, and there at the from was a three-byte byte order marker - the marker that I believe the UTF-8 standard says is optional. I removed these three bytes, and the file was parsed correctly.
    In this case, the XML file was created using a Microsft DOM (save).
    My solution is to make the java parser - as I use it - a tad more robust: Open the file and create an input stream - a pushback input stream. Read the first three bytes; if they are NOT a BOM, then push those bytes back. Now - in any case - give the stream to the parser to read.
    try {
    // Open file for reading.
    f = new File(path);
    FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(f);
    PushbackInputStream pis = new PushbackInputStream(fis);
    byte[] buf = new byte[3];
    pis.read(buf, 0, 3);
    if (! (buf[0] == 0x00EF) && (buf[1] == 0x00BB) && (buf[2] == 0x00BF) ) {
         pis.unread(buf, 0, 3);
    builder = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance().newDocumentBuilder();
    doc = builder.parse(pis);
    catch (Exception x) {
         x.printStackTrace();
    }

    earlier it was
    org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: s4s-elt-character: Non-whitespace characters are not allowed in schema elements other than 'xs:appinfo' and 'xs:documentation'. Saw 'USAVER'.anmd now it is
    org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: s4s-elt-character: Non-whitespace characters are not allowed in schema elements other than 'xs:appinfo' and 'xs:documentation'. Saw 'Alert1'.some problem in this Alert1 message is what i guess.. some parsing error.. look closely..
    i guess some of the xml characters are not rendered properly in forum software.. or it may be truncated.. so i believe something wrong which is not visible..

    The Java API documentation (the bit about character encodings) mentions "ISO-8859-1" but not "ISO8859-1". Try that instead?

    Hey
    Ur XML is not correct,it must be something like this
    <root>
    <StatementName1>
    <dbTableName action=”UPDATE” | “UPDATE_INSERT”>
    <table>realDbTableName</table>.....
    </StatementName1>
    if u look at the receiver structure of /people/sap.user72/blog/2005/06/01/file-to-jdbc-adapter-using-sap-xi-30 this blog,action is an attribute of TEST and not STATEMENTNAME,for ur structure its an attribute of Statement2
    can u send ur receiver structure?
    thanx

  • Org.xml.sax error content not allowed in prolog

    Hi,
    I am running Jetty 6.x on SUSE and there is a webapp called pyjasper i am trying to run on it. the context maps fine and it displays the content however, when i use the applet in the webapp to create a report (.jasper) it gives me a org.xml.sax Parse exception: content not allowed in prolog.
    A little part of the error is pasted below:

    I am guessing this is some sort of an error in xml parsing. I found couple of solutions on sun java forums but none of them worked for me. Right now I am trying to figure out whether this is being caused by the applet or the java itself.
    Apparently other people who use this applet do not have a problem and they have the exact same files as me. So I am not sure what exactly is causing tihs problem. Bit of a noob.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!! :)

    Hi thanks you very much for the reply.
    In my message I forgot to mention that I edited my prologs to "<?xml version = "1.0" encoding = "UTF-8"?>" and the jetty.xml that has the server configuration has:
    <?xml version = "1.0" encoding = "UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE Configure PUBLIC "-//Mort Bay Consulting//DTD Configure//EN" "http://jetty.mortbay.org/configure.dtd">
    I apologize for the clarity of my message. I meant to say that I was wondering whether the problem is with the xm files that java has, or the xml files that are in the pyjasper package that I downloaded?
    I also checked for byte order mark using hex editor to see if those six characters were in front of my xml files. None of the files in the pyjasper package had the BOM so that solution did not work.
    Is there something wrong with the above xml prolog?
    I have been reading tons of different posts and stuf trying to figure this out for the past month but juts cannot seem to get it to work.
    Thanks.

    I guess the problem is due to the schema namespace
    you are using.

    pls try with :
    "http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
