Queries involving where clause with timestamp data type

I need to use milliseconds in my tables and do queries where I compare the time in the table to a specific time. I changed the column to the TIMESTAMP data type (from DATE) to accommodate the milliseconds.
I am accessing the data via a C++ program using ODBC to access the Oracle 10g XE database and a SQLBindParameter statement to set up the comparisons.
Below is a table that looks like mine but simplified to just a few fields:
. DATA_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(10)
. START_TIME NOT NULL TIMESTAMP(6)
. STOP_TIME NOT NULL TIMESTAMP(6)
My query is:
. string sql("select "\
. "to_Char(rv.start_time, 'YYYYMMDD HH24:MI:SS.FF3'), "\
. "to_Char(rv.stop_time, 'YYYYMMDD HH24:MI:SS.FF3'), "\
. "rv.data_id "\
. "from "\
. "Reservation rv "\
. "where "\
. "rv.data_id = ? and "\
. "rv.stop_time >= to_timestamp(?, 'YYYYMMDD HH24:MI:SS.FF3') and "\
. "rv.start_time <= to_timestamp(?, 'YYYYMMDD HH24:MI:SS.FF3');");
MY C++ code (minus the usual statement preparation material) is:
. string startTime("20090826 15:42:02.000");
. string stopTime("20110828 02:04:52.000");
. SQLRETURN rc = SQL_SUCCESS;
. SQLINTEGER sqlRsrcInstanceId = resource->getResourceInstanceId();
. SQLLEN sqlRsrcInstanceIdLI = 0;
. rc |= SQLBindParameter( stmtHandle, 1, SQL_PARAM_INPUT,
. SQL_C_LONG, SQL_INTEGER, 0, 0,
. &sqlRsrcInstanceId, 0, &sqlRsrcInstanceIdLI );
. SQLCHAR sqlStartTime[24];
. memset(sqlStartTime, 0, 24);
. SQLLEN sqlStartTimeLI = SQL_NTS;
. strncpy( (char*)sqlStartTime, startTime, 23);
. rc |= SQLBindParameter( stmtHandle, 2, SQL_PARAM_INPUT,
. SQL_C_CHAR, SQL_CHAR,
. sizeof(sqlStartTime)-1, 0,
. &sqlStartTime, sizeof(sqlStartTime)-1,
. &sqlStartTimeLI);
. SQLCHAR sqlStopTime[24];
. memset(sqlStopTime, 0, 24);
. SQLLEN sqlStopTimeLI = SQL_NTS;
. strncpy( (char*)sqlStopTime, stopTime, 23);
. rc |= SQLBindParameter( stmtHandle, 3, SQL_PARAM_INPUT,
. SQL_C_CHAR, SQL_CHAR,
. sizeof(sqlStopTime)-1, 0,
. &sqlStopTime, sizeof(sqlStopTime)-1,
. &sqlStopTimeLI);
When the statement is executed, I get the following error:
. ODBC Return Code: SQL Error.
. Native Error Code/Message:
. 932/[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected - got -
Any suggestions on what is wrong or a better way to perform the query?

The only way to test a query is to get out of your environment and fire up SQL*Plus (command line).
I can not read all of what you wrote but the error you are generating should show up there along with sufficient information to quickly fix it.
Once you have working statement put it back into your environment.

  • Working with timestamp data type.

    Hi all!,
    I have some problems working with the timestamp data type.
    Let's say that i have a table named order, where i store (in two timestamps) the date where the order was made, and the date where the order was executed.
    I want:
    1) first to find the difference between these to timestamps, let me call them a,b,
    2) to find the average time of the difference of timestamps. With that i mean if my table has 60 typles for examples to get (b-a)/60.
    Can these happen?
    Thanks in advance,

    I would do this with a view and a stored procedure within oracle.
    Create a view that contains the two timestamp fields & the difference between them (along with any primary keys from the original table), then use this view in a stored procedure to average the values.

  • Migrating Sybase "timestamp" data type to Oracle DB

    Hi,
    We are migrating huge Application currently running on Sybase database
    to Oracle 10.2.0.3 (500+ Tables and Stored Procedures).
    Have following questions regarding this Migration.
    1) Many of the Sybase Tables have column which is of Sybase data type "timestamp".
    Do you have any recommendation what is the data type to be used in Oracle for
    migrating "timestamp" data type in Sybase?
    2) How should we migrate existing data and business logic residing in Sybase for
    data columns of Sybase data type "timestamp" ?
    Given below are details on how we use Sybase timestamp Column in our Application
    and we are trying to arrive at the best Solution that is possible for migrating
    all those Tables and related business logic to Oracle.
    We have following Control Table in Sybase which has column of timestamp data type and
    some other Business keys.
    sp_help EQP_IES_CRE_TIMESTAMP (This is similar to desc <table> command in Oracle)
    EQP_IES_CRE_TIMESTAMP,dbo,user table
    default,Nov 14 2001 10:39AM
    CRE_TIMESTAMP ,timestamp,8,,,0,,,,0
    REF_NUM ,char,30,,,0,,,,0
    REC_UPD_DT ,datetime,8,,,1,,,,0
    EQP_IES_CRE_TIMESTAMPI1,clustered, unique located on default, CRE_TIMESTAMP, REF_NUM, REC_UPD_DT,0,0,0,
    Following is the overall logic used in Sybase
    -- Step 1: Based on Event, populate Control Table with new Row.
    -- CRE_TIMESTAMP timestamp Column gets auto-populated by Sybase
    insert EQP_IES_CRE_TIMESTAMP (REF_NUM, REC_UPD_DT)
    values (@uuid_ref_num, @event_cre_dt)
    Since CRE_TIMESTAMP is auto-populated, it does not appear in above INSERT statement.
    -- Step 2: Store timestamp value populated by Sybase in previous step,
    -- to variable @event_timestamp. This value would be referenced
    -- later in other SQL statements
    select @event_timestamp = CRE_TIMESTAMP
    from EQP_IES_CRE_TIMESTAMP
    where REF_NUM = @uuid_ref_num
    and REC_UPD_DT = @event_cre_dt
    -- Sample value for @event_timestamp could be '001c0000182f2089'
    -- It is not very readable or understandable
    -- Step 3: Delete Control Table entry made in Step 1
    delete EQP_IES_CRE_TIMESTAMP from EQP_IES_CRE_TIMESTAMP
    where CRE_TIMESTAMP = @event_timestamp
    -- Step 4: Make use of saved timestamp value from Step 2 to trigger queries
    -- against other Tables that have timestamp Columns
    -- Some sample queries are as shown below
    delete eqp_staging
    where event_timestamp > @event_timestamp;
    insert into eqp_movement values(@event_timestamp, ......other columns) ;
    Any idea how above Table and logic could be migrated to Oracle DB
    We would also like to know how data values that currently exist
    in Sybase Tables should be populated in Oracle .
    Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Auroprem

    Hi All,
    Thanks for your responses.
    We have decided on Solution to migrate "timestamp" Column from Sybase to Oracle, that is
    specific to our Application needs.
    Following is what we decided:
    1) Create RAW Column in Oracle which would contain data Replicated from Sybase "timestamp" Column as is.
    2) Create additional Column of INTEGER data type to store number equivalent of Sybase "timestamp" column
    which would be more usable and consummable in Oracle as compared to RAW datatype.
    3) Write Row-Level INSERT/UPDATE Trigger on migrated Oracle Table to populate INTEGER Column using
    SQL Function TO_NUMBER(<raw_column_value>, 'xxxxxxxx').
    4) Applications that access this Table, upon migration to Oracle, will now start referencing INTEGER Column
    newly defined, and populated via Trigger.
    Please let us know if you see any issues with this approach
    Thanks

  • Where clause with time stamp

    Hii,
    I have an issue with using where clause with time stamp. My requirement is to
    select * from driver_on_policy
    where last_change_datetime = '2001-03-06 19:00:06'
    date is in this form 6/3/2001 7:00:06 PM
    thnks
    sam

    If you want to use '6/3/2001 7:00:06 PM', then
    where last_change_datetime = to_timestamp('6/3/2001 7:00:06 PM','DD/MM/YYYY HH:MI:SS PM')If you can use a literal string in ANSI standard YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS format, then just
    where last_change_datetime = timestamp '2001-03-06 19:00:06' (That 'DD/MM' might need to be switched around to 'MM/DD' if you are in America.)

  • How to insert data in a column with uniqueidefier data type

    Guys,
    I need insert data in a column with uniqueidefier data type, when i am trying to that getting error.
    error message says: "Conversion failed when converting from a character string to uniqueidentifier."
    I have data in table a col1,col2,col3,col4 - col3,col4 has datatype as varchar and i am updating table b columns col1,col2 with table a col3 and col4.
    Please guide how to do it.

    Hi,
    Not any String can be convert to uniqueidentifier.
    1. you have to make sure u use a value which is fir to be uniqueidentifier
    2. Use convert or cast in the insert query in order to convert the string into uniqueidentifier
    insert X ... convert(uniqueidentifier, 'string which fit to be convert to uniqueidentifier')
    Please post DDL+DML for more specific help
    DDL = Data Definition Language. In our case that is, CREATE TABLE statements for your tables and other definitions that are needed to understand your tables structure and there for let us to test and reproduce the problem in our server. Without DDL no one
    can execute any query.
    How to get DDL: Right click on the table in Object Explorer and select script table as CREATE. Post these create table scripts here.
    DML = data manipulation language is a family of queries used for manipulating the data it self like: inserting, deleting and updating data. In our case we need some sample data in order to check the query and get result, so we need some indert query for
    sample data.
    If you post a "create query" for the tables and "insert query" with some sample, then we could help you without Assuming/Guessing. There is a reason that DDL is generally asked for and expected when discussing query problems - it helps
    to identify issues, clarify terminology and prevent incorrect assumptions.  Sample data also provides a common point of reference for the discussion. A script that can be used to illustrate or reproduce the issue you have, will encourage others to help.

  • Call a method with complex data type from a DLL file

    Hi,
    I have a win32 API with a dll file, and I am trying to call some methods from it in the labview. To do this, I used the import library wizard, and everything is working as expected. The only problem which I have is with a method with complex data type as return type (a vector). According to this link, import library wizard can not import methods with complex data type.
    The name of this method is this:   const std::vector< BlackfinInterfaces::Count > Counts ()
    where Count is a structure defined as below:
    struct Count
       Count() : countTime(0) {}
       std::vector<unsigned long> countLines;
       time_t countTime;
    It seems that I should manually use the Call Library Function Node. How can I configure parameters for the above method?

    You cannot configure Call Library Function Node to call this function.  LabVIEW has no way to pass a C++ class such as vector to a DLL.

  • JDBC insert with XMLTYPE data type

    Hi,
    SOAP to JDBC scenario. Oracle 11G as a receiver.
    Requirement is to  insert whole xml payload message in one of Oracle table fields as a xml string. Target oracle DB table column is defined with XMLTYPE data type, it has capacity to hold xml data more than 4GB. I am using graphical mapping with direct INSERT statement.
    When I try to insert xml payload with smaller size transaction goes through. However when the xml payload size increases it is giving following error in JDBC receiver communication channel monitoring.
    Could not execute statement for table/stored proc. "TABLE_NAME" (structure "StructName") due to java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01704: string literal too long
    Here is insert statement as in communication channel monitoring. (Note: XML payload with bold characters is truncated)

    Any suggestions to handle this requirement?
    Thank you in advance.
    Anand More.

    Hi Anand,
    The problem here is definitely the length of the SQL query. i.e "INSERT INTO ......... VALUES......."
    This is what i got when i searched for this ORACLE error code:
    ORA-01704: string literal too long
    Cause: The string literal is longer than 4000 characters.
    Action: Use a string literal of at most 4000 characters. Longer values may only be entered using bind variables.
    Please ask a ORACLE DB expert on how to handle this Also i am not sure how can we handle Bind Varibales in SAP PI.
    I hope this helps.

  • Where clause with a combination of And and Or statements - Basic question

    Hi,
    I have a where clause with a combination of And and Or statements... May I know which one would run first
    Here is the sample
    WHERE SITE_NAME = 'Q' AND ET_NAME IN ('12', '15') AND TEST_DATE > DATE OR SITE_NAME = 'E' AND ET_NAME IN ('19', '20')
    can you please explain how this combination works
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    This reminds me of a great story. It's so good, it probably didn't really happen, but it's so good, I'm going to repeat it anyway.
    IBM once had an "executive apptitude test" that they would give to job applicants. There were some questions you might call general knowlege or trivia questions, and each question had a weight (for example, answering an unimportant queestion might score one point, an important question might be 5 points.) One of the questions was "What is the standard width of a mobile home?", and the weight of the question was -20: answering the question correctly did serious harm to your score. The reasoning was that the more you knew about mobile homes, the less likely you were to be their kind of executive.
    Now, as to your question, the correct answer is: I don't know. I don't want to know. Mixing ANDs and ORs without grouping them in parentheses is a really bad idea. Even if you get it right, it's going to confuse the next person who has to look at that code. Use parentheses to make sure the code is doing what you want it to do.
    If you really want to find out, it's documented in the SQL language manual. Look up "Operators, prcedence"
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e26088/operators001.htm#sthref815
    You can easily do an experiment, using scott.emp, or even dual, where
    WHERE  (x AND y)
    OR      zproduces different results from
    WHERE   x
    AND     (y OR z)

  • Dynamic ORDER BY clause - Possible different data types...

    I have a lexical parameter in my ORDER BY clause:
    ORDER BY &P_ORDER_BY
    My problem is that I have to designate this parameter as either a date, character or number, but the user defined column being ordered by could be any one of these. When I designate the parameter as a character type, and a number data type column is chosen, it orders by that value, but it orders it as though it were a character field, referencing the initial digit and not the overall numeric value. If I choose a number parameter type, and a character value is chosen, I get an invalid number error, and so on.
    Anyone have any ideas how I can do this?

    Okay, now we're on the right track. The lexical parameter I'm using allows the user to choose from a list of the columns being retrieved in the SELECT statement, so it will always be one that's in there, as you said. Now, since I don't know which one it's going to be, I can't just make all but one of them 'None' for the break order, BUT, what I intended to do was to add a column to the SELECT statement that would always return the column they chose, and I could put the break order on that column, leaving all the rest 'None'. However, in the past, this has created 2 problems for me.
    1.) As I mentioned in the first post, the column being returned could have a data type of character, number or date, but the parameter must be designated as only one of these. So, if the user chooses to order by a column having a value with a data type other than what the parameter is designated to be, then I get errors, it doesn't order correctly, etc...
    2.) This is the strange, but anytime I've marked all but one column as 'None' for the Break Order, my child data doesn't always stay with the parent. For example, the report is on an IT request database. The 'group fields' consist of data elements that are demographic info.of a request (requester, date requested, description, etc...), and the details for each request list out the comments that have been made in the system for that request. The problem I'm seeing when I set the break orders this way is that each request displays not only its own comments, but it lists out comments for other requests as well, and there doesn't seem to be any logic to which request's comments it lists in addition to its own, it just lists as many as will fit on the page...I don't know if I explained that very well, but that's what's happening.
    Does any of that make sense? Any ideas?

  • DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR with NCLOB data type

    Hi ,
    When I am trying to extract part of the string from Comments column(NCLOB datatype) am facing issue.
    ORA-06502:PL/SQL Numeric or value error :Character string buffer too small
    select dbms_lob.substr(a.COMMENTS, 4000, 1),
    from VW_DETAILS a
    where a.id = 6210872
    DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR with NCLOB data type
    Table structure :
    Column_name Data_type
    Comments NCLOB
    ID NUMBER
    Regards,
    Venkat

    DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR parameter amount for CLOB/NCLOB indicates number of characters to substring, not bytes. And 4000 multi-byte characters (since you are using NCLOB) is greater than 4000 bytes which is absolute limit for VARCHAR2 in SQL.

  • How can I pass multiple condition in where clause with the join table?

    Hi:
    I need to collect several inputs at run time, and query the record according to the input.
    How can I pass multiple conditions in where clause with the join table?
    Thanks in advance for any help.
    Regards,
    TD

    If you are using SQL-Plus or Reports you can use lexical parameters like:
    SELECT * FROM emp &condition;
    When you run the query it will ask for value of condition and you can enter what every you want. Here is a really fun query:
    SELECT &columns FROM &tables &condition;
    But if you are using Forms. Then you have to change the condition by SET_BLOCK_PROPERTY.
    Best of luck!

  • Same Input name with different data type cause the reflection exception

    I have a proxy contains couple RFCs. Two RFCs contain an argument named IN_COMPANY_CODE with data type of ZTRE_FX_BUKRSTable. Another RFC contains the same argument name of IN_COMPANY_CODE but hold different data type (String). All RFCs are in the same proxy. Complie and build the application with no issue.
    But when I ran the RFC, it generates the reflection exception below:
    Method SAPProxy1.Z_F_Tre_R_Pre_Trade_Fx can not be reflected. --> There was an error reflecting 'In_Company_Code'. > The XML element named 'IN_5fCOMPANY_--5fCODE' from namespace '' references distinct types System.String and MSTRFOREX.ZTRE_FX_BUKRSTable. Use XML attributes to specify another XML name or namespace for the element or types.
    I realize the conflict introduced by the same name with difference data type. But I would like to know if this is fixable as a bug or if there is any best practice and/or some manual intervention to make it work.

    Please install fix from OSS note 506603. After this, right-click .sapwsdl file and select "Run custom tool".

  • Check box with Boolean data type is not behaving properly

    Hi,
    I create a sample application with one entity driven view object with two attributes. One is of String data type [Value will be Y/N] and another (transient) attribute with Boolean data type. I planned to bind this boolean data type attribute to UI. I overridded the view row impl class and included setting of boolean attribute inside the setter of String attribute. Also in the getter of boolean attribute, added code to check the string attribute and return true/false based on that. Everything is working fine in application module tester. But when i test the same in view controller project in a page, it is not working. Always Check box component is not checked eventhough when i explicitly check it.
    [NOTE: I have given the control hint of Boolean attribute as check_box. Also i don't want selected/unselected entries in the page def file. That's why followed this approach]
    Have i missed out anything? Why this behaviour.
    Thanks in advance.
