Query based change notifications

Hi,
am trying to use the query based notifications, but it seems to switch over to the object based notification for some reason. My environment is Oracle 11.2 ( I believe you need 11.1 or above for query based to work) and I have a select statement which retrieves a column which is of type NUMBER. (Again here my understanding is that only varchar2 and number columns work). I seem to get every change notification on the table and not just my flltered dataset
As an example I've created a sample table called test_db_notification with a single column of type NUMBER.
desc test_db_notification
Name Null Type
COLUMN1 NUMBER
Added two entries in there as follows:
SELECT rowid,column1 FROM test_db_notification;
ROWID                          COLUMN1
AAAERnAAKAAEurNAAI                54
AAAERnAAKAAEurPAAA                63
Here's my code to register for notification:
     OracleCommand cmdObj = connObj.CreateCommand();
cmdObj.CommandText = " SELECT column1 FROM testdb_notification where column1 = 63";
_dep = new OracleDependency(_cmdObj);
_dep.QueryBasedNotification = true;
_dep.OnChange += new OnChangeEventHandler(_dep_OnChange);
_cmdObj.Notification.IsNotifiedOnce = false;
_cmdObj.AddRowid = true;
_cmdObj.ExecuteNonQuery();
When I register and change the value of column1 where the current value is 54, I get back a notification saying the ROWID for 54 has been updated.
I was expecting not to receive any notifications since my original query looks only at column1 = 63. Am I missing something here?

Hi,
This isnt related to the beta.
From the CQN docs..
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28424/adfns_cqn.htm#CHDIEJEI
You must be connected as a non-SYS user in order to create CQN registrations.
Hope it helps,
Greg

    Since you don't mention which documents you have read, nor what exactly your confusion is, I would suggest that you read the documentation:

  • Looking for Active Data Service samples with RDBMS change notification fire

    Hi,
    I am looking for samples/examples of Active Data Service when a server side event, like RDBMS change notification got triggered.
    The ADS samples that I found so far are:
    - Twitter http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/learnmore/65-activedataservicestwittersample-191314.pdf
    - http://adfwithejb.blogspot.com/2012/12/active-data-service-with-active-image.html
    - http://adfwithejb.blogspot.com/2012/12/active-data-serivce-with-data.html
    But these samples do not demonstrate how RDBMS change notification got triggered got triggered. The last two samples have a Runnable class that simulate the triggering, and the Twitter example is twitter stream notification.
    Please shed some lights on Active Data Service with RDBMS change notification got triggered.

    Hi Mina,
    Check this 2 resources, first a presentation made at OOW by Lucas Jellema: http://www.slideshare.net/lucasjellema/push-to-the-limit-rich-and-proactive-user-interfaces-with-adf-oracle-open-world-2011
    second an interesting forum thread around the the topic: ADF BC and the Active Data Service using af:table from what I know this is still valid as of today.

    In the meantime we have found the solution to this problem.
    The objectkey must contain the notification number (12 digits):

  • Issue in Oracle 11g Database Change Notification  for Java application

    Hi,
    I am trying to use Oracle's Database Change Notification in Java application.
    I followed the sample application (+DBChangeNotification.java+ , Example 29-2), provided in the following link:
    +[http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/java.111/b31224/dbmgmnt.htm#CHDEJECF]+
    I am able to see that the Registration of the SQL query is successful.
    But, when I do changes to the table registered, notifications are not received in the Listener class (+DCNDemoListener.java+).
    Ideally, the method DCNDemoListener.onDatabaseChangeNotification() should be invoked on any insert/update to the registered table. But this method is not getting invoked.
    The execution has stopped in the following line of DBChangeNotification.java Class.
    this.wait();
    +==> The application was WAITing indefinitely in this line, as the NOTIFY() from DCNDemoListener.java was not executed.+
    I am using VPN to connect to Oracel server. Remote Oracle Server is protected my firewall. Is this the reason for not sending the notifications from Oracle server?
    The version of software used are given below:
    Oracle Client - Oracle 11.1.0
    JDK - 1.6
    Oracle JDBC Driver - ojdbc6.jar
    Can someone help me to resolve this issue?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
    I am having similar issue. Where you able to resolve it.
    I am also using the same example you were using.
    I am using the following version.
    Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
    Compatibility: 11.2.0.0.0
    I do not see any notification coming back from the DB.
    Appreciate your help.

  • SELECT QUERY  BASED ON SECONDARY INDEX

    Hi all,
    CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO WRITE SELECT QUERY BASED ON SECONDARY INDEX.
    IN WHAT WAY DOES IT IMPROVE PERFORMANCE.
    i KNOW WHEN CREATING SECONDARY INDEX I NEED TO GIVE AN INDEX NO -iT SHOULD BE ANY NUMBER RIGHT?
    I HAVE TO LIST ALL PRIMARY KEYS FIRST AND THEN THE FIELD FOR WHICH I AM CREATING SECONDARY INDEX RIGHT?
    LETS SAY I HAVE 2 PRIMARY KEYS AND I WANT TO CREATE SEONDARY INDEX FOR 2 FIELDS THEN
    I NEED TO CREATE A SEPERTE SECONDARY INDEX FOR EACH ONE OF THOSE FIELDS OR ONE SHOULD BE ENOUGH
    pLS LET ME KNOW IF IAM WRONG

    HI,
    If you cannot use the primary index to determine the result set because, for example, none of the primary index fields occur in the WHERE or HAVINGclauses, the system searches through the entire table (full table scan). For this case, you can create secondary indexes, which can restrict the number of table entries searched to form the result set.
    You create secondary indexes using the ABAP Dictionary. There you can create its columns and define it as UNIQUE. However, you should not create secondary indexes to cover all possible combinations of fields.
    Only create one if you select data by fields that are not contained in another index, and the performance is very poor. Furthermore, you should only create secondary indexes for database tables from which you mainly read, since indexes have to be updated each time the database table is changed. <b>As a rule, secondary indexes should not contain more than four fields</b>, <b>and you should not have more than five indexes for a single database table</b>.
    <b>What to Keep in Mind for Secondary Indexes:</b>

  • Documents in Query-based Taxonomy are not Autoindexing

    Hello experts!
    I am on EP6.14 with Trex 6.  I have a repository with a query-based taxonomy on it and is also part of a regular search index.  I have autoclassification on.
    On each document I have a couple of properties that are used to match documents in queries in my taxonomy.  On the initial set-up and load, everything worked great.  Documents went right where they were supposed to.  But sometime after we released this to the business, the documents no longer automatically index.  If I change a document property or set up a new one, it finds the category but leaves them as "suggested."  You then have to go in and accept those suggestions to get the document to the right taxonomy.  In short, it acts as if autoclassification is off.  I have noticed that the Classification index does not submit a new document if I change a property but the search index does.  Not sure if that is applicable but I would think both should do that since it is a change.
    I did some research and found that synchronization issues or new folders could cause this problem but I have synchronized with no success.  Also, state management is not on for the repository.
    Is there any reason why autoclassification would stop on its own?  What can I do to get it back on?
    Thanks-
    J
    Many points given for helpful answers!

    Hi Frederick-
    Thanks for your response-
    We have a single CM DB repository.  There is a search only index at the root folder and classification index on a folder below the root.  Normally, we don't overlap but we wanted only the folders in the lower folder to be part of the taxonomy.  I suppose we could just rule out the other documents by not having them match any queries but this way it was guaranteed.
    THe search and classifications are working (aren't throwing errors) but like I said, I would think that both would have to push the document through the queue.  But I'm only seeing the search index do that.   Now if I go and accept the recommended categories, then it goes into the queue for the Classification index.

  • Problem with query based LOV

    Hi,
    Maybe someone could help me with the following. I think it is a shortcoming of HTMLDB, but I'm not sure.
    I've got a Select List item, P10_PERSON, which resides in a tabular form. The Select List is based on a query, say:
    select name   display_value
    ,      id     return_value
    from   personAs is should be, P10_PERSON shows only the names.
    When my action is an insert or modification, the results will be writen in the table PERSON_MEETING.
    Now I want to make sure that the same person coulden't be selected a second time for the same meeting. So I alter the query based LOV with the following:
    select name   display_value
    ,      id     return_value
    from   person
    where  id not in (select person_id
                      from   person_meeting
                      where  meeting_id = :P10_MEETING_ID)This sounds correct and works in Designer, but not in HTMLDB. The NAME isen't shown anymore, instead the ID is shown in the page.
    Is this because the person doesen't actually exists anymore in the LOV after it has been saved (stored in PERSON_MEETING)? If so, does anyone knows a work-around?
    Thx!

    (removed typing error)

    I've got 3 tables. PERSON, MEETING and PERSON_MEETING.
    They have the following structure:
    # PERSON            #
    # ID   NUMBER       #
    # NAME VARCHAR2(50) #
    # MEETING                   #
    # ID          NUMBER        #
    # DESCRIPTION VARCHAR2(100) #
    # PERSON_MEETING    #
    # ID         NUMBER #
    # PERSON_ID  NUMBER #
    # MEETING_ID NUMBER #
    #####################In PERSON there are 3 records, in MEETING there is only 1.
    PERSON:
    ID     NAME
    1      KEVIN
    2      BILL
    3      JOHN
    MEETING
    ID     DESCRIPTION
    1      DEVELOPERS MEETINGNow I want to link the persons to a meeting in the PERSON_MEETING table.
    The column MEETING_ID will be filled automatically through a variable or parameter (I don't know the exact term).
    I defined the PERSON_ID column as an query based select list with the query:
    select name   display_value
    ,      id     return_value
    from   personThis works perfectely, the select list (or lov) shows KEVIN, BILL and JOHN. When I select BILL and save my adjustment, the following record will be shown in PERSON_MEETING
    PERSON_MEETING
    ID     PERSON_ID     MEETING_ID
    1      2             1Now that I inserted BILL as a participant for the Developers meeting he should be removed from the select list. Only KEVIN and JOHN should be in the list. Therefore I change the query of the select list into:
    select name   display_value
    ,      id     return_value
    from   person
    where  id not in (select person_id
                      from   person_meeting
                      where  meeting_id = :MEETING_ID):MEETING_ID is the item in the page containing the ID of the meeting.
    When I make this adjustment, the select list only contains KEVIN and JOHN (as it should), but the first record shown on the page (record with BILL) doesen't show BILL anymore, instead his ID will be shown (2)...

  • Select query based on userinput

    Hi Folks...
    I posted this in another forum, but no reply,so I am posting it here too. I am trying to make a select query based on a user input. Earlier I was having probelms making a select query and printing out the result in the stack trace,with the advice given, I managed to solve that. I am now modifying that code to make a query based on user input, however it's not working, following is the code:
    String userId = request.getRemoteUser();  String sql = "SELECT hoursused FROM sysuser WHERE iduser = ?";    try      {        Connection connection = dataSource.getConnection();        PreparedStatement preparedStatement = connection.prepareStatement(sql);        preparedStatement.setString(1, userId);                ResultSet srs = preparedStatement.executeQuery(sql);                            while(srs.next()) {                          String hoursused = srs.getString("hoursused");                          System.out.println("The hours used are " + hoursused);    }                  }    catch (SQLException e)      {    e.printStackTrace();    }        }
    stack trace seems to suggest I may have a probelm with this statement:
    "SELECT hoursused FROM sysuser WHERE iduser = ?";
    I am not sure how to rectify this, I hope someone can advise, thanks.

    Hi jschell..
    Thanks for responding, I appreciate it. The problem has been solved. No 'sysuser' is not a reserved word in Mysql. Based on the advice given in another forum and also from this site, I managed to solve the problem. I only made one change. This:
    ResultSet srs = preparedStatement.executeQuery(sql);     was changed to this:
    ResultSet srs = preparedStatement.executeQuery();  Thanks.

    Using the select list query based LOV with a select witch is too big, you get this error.
    report error:
    ORA-20001: Error fetching column value: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    When using the Popup LOV query based LOV) then it works nice.
    Can that be solved somehow?
    With the Popup LOV the return value is displayed in stead of the description.

    Hi Andy,
    How do I incorporate your suggestion on a report ?
    Example : I have
    select apex_item.display_and_save(1,column1,5) col1,
    apex_item.display_and_save(2,column2,5) col2 ,
    apex_item.popup_from_query(3, emp_name, 'select user_name, name  empname from table2) col3
    Table 2 is a long list , and I'm getting string buffer too small due to this.
    Your suggestion with HTP is good but I'm not sure how to implement it for reports as I'll like the user to change the values with the select_list.
    I'm not using forms as they want mulit-record on the same page.
    Hope to hear back from you soon.
    Thanks very much.

  • Select List (query based LOV) in V. 4.1.1.00.23

    Hi guys,
    I am having some problems with an APEX application that I have exported from V. 4.1.0.00.32 and imported on V. 4.1.1.00.23.
    I have a Tabular Form region where I have a column which is Display As "Select List (Query based LOV)".
    If I add a new row - choose a new value (not the same as any of the above rows) and "Apply Changes"/"Submit" the value in the new row changes to the value of the 1. row of the tabular form :-( I can update this new row and then it saves the right value... It looks like it is only when inserting a new row.
    Is this a bug or is it a feature ;-)
    Hope you can help...
    /Rene

    Leo,
    Thanks for the response, but I don't think you quite understand my problem. If I go to the Column Attributes screen for the group_id field, I have the "Display As" drop down set to "Select List (query based LOV)", not "Select List (named LOV)". This requires that the sql query be written in the "List of values definition" text area below. Within that text area I have the following query:
    SELECT DISPLAY_NAME, GROUP_ID
    FROM APPLICATION_GROUPS
    WHERE APP_ID = ?????
    ORDER BY 1
    The APP_ID that I need to reference is for the current row of data that is being processed. Therefore, I can't use a :PNNN_APP_ID variable, because that field does not exist on the page.
    Hopefully this explains it a little better.
    Thanks,
    Kris

  • Query Based Problem

    HI Experts,
    I have Generated One Query based Report for Invoice Details
    I have Generated that report in Last Years Posting Period now Posting Period Has Been Changed
    Now if i will execute that report it will show correct data but while i will drill information from Invoice Number it will show previous years Documet.
    But all the other tax details and amount is from Current Posting Dates

    Hi
    The archiving functionality is from the 8.8 version only.
    But if in your query you display the DocEntry in side of the DocNum and use the link arrow at the DocEntry, it will go to the proper document.
    Best regards

  • Input Ready query based on aggregation level

    I have an input ready query that reads data from an aggregation level, based on a multiprovider that contains a cube for planning and a cube with real data.
    There are two columns of data, two of them for read-only and another for input.
    I´m selecting different fiscal year/periods for each column.
    The problem is that, when I select fiscal year/periods and the real data cube doesn´t contain any data for this filter, it doesn´t show me a line to input data anyway..
    how do I configure the query so that it understands that eventhough I don´t have data for the selected period, I still want to be able to perform the planning?
    Thanks,
    Cris.

    Hi Christina,
    Even though there is no Data in the  Real time Cube the Query must allow you to Input values. I guess the Query you have designed is not enabled for input yet.
    Kindly check the following Points before proceeding.
    1. In the Query properties under Planning tab, make sure the Start Query in change mode is turned On.
    2. Make sure you have used all of the characteristic in the aggregation level in the Query and is restricted to single value.
    3. make sure the columns are Input ready under the Planning tab in its properties
    Hope this Helps.
    Regards.
    Shafi.
