Query designer removing parts of where clause in VS 2012

I'm new to reporting services and I'm finding the query designer very frustrating. First off, I have read here and
am having a problem where the tool automatically wipes out parameters I have changed/added in the query designer. I read this 5 years ago, yet it seems that this problem still exists. I've tried changing the XML as suggested by some with mixed
results. Now I am having a problem when I changed the WHERE clause it keeps disappearing if I try and make any other change. Does anyone have advice on working with this tool? Should one keep a running copy of the query and keep pasting it
back in whenever a change is needed? Is this behavior not expected? Is anything different with SSRS 2014?

According to your description, parameters are wiping out automatically when you change something in query designer.
In Reporting Service, if we use where clause to add parameters in query designer, Define Query Parameters will pop-up when running the query. Please refer to screenshot below:
Regarding the issue, we couldn’t understand it clearly, and we would like to confirm something from you below:
1. Does parameters disappear in your query? Or when you preview the report, the selected box of parameters doesn’t display?
2. How about the query in query designer when parameters disappear?
3. What’s the modification have you performed for where clause? And what’s the result after this modification?
4. What the query type you are using, MDX query, stored procedure or another query type?
Please provide more information about the issue then we can understand the issue clearly. If possible, please provide some screenshots about the query in query designer, and the results of parameters before and after changing where clause.
In addition, we have found a feedback which descripts an issue about overwriting parameter in MDX query designer, and this issue is resolved by design. Is this issue same as yours? Please refer to this feedback:

What do u mean by " remove a dynamic where clause"?Its applied in VOimpl class init query method.So, if u don't call that and directly do execute query, dynamic where clause will not be applied.
Also u can change the VO query, using setQuery.

Query SQL datastore with XML where clause source

Hope I am in the right place. New to Bus Obj Data Services Designer....I have cerated xml schemas, added it to the page as an xml source in. Mapped a test xml file and all is well there. I have added a query that grabs the xml.
I need to then query the MS SQL datastore ans use the data form the xml query as the where clause. How is this done? Or do I put a query on the datastore for all the data in a table then do anotehr query filtering one with the other? seems like that would be rather heavy and low performance. The results will then be sent back out as xml (schema and test file already set up as an xml out)

I´m running into a problem though. After I create my dynamic View Object using a ViewDef, I need to create some view links.
So I get the AttributeDefs of the columns (source, and destination) from the method findAttributeDef (which is the whole purpose of performance in my post). This method is returning the correct Attribute Def, but when I create the view Link with the method createViewLinkBetweenViewObjects(java.lang.String vlName,

My destination query is generating the where clause as:

SQL query optimization by changinf the WHERE clause

Hi all,
I need to know about the SQL query performance improvement by changing the WHERE clause. Consider a query :
select * from student where country ='India' and age = 20
Say, country = 'India' filters 100000 records and age = 20 filters 2000 records if given one by one. Now can anyone tell if the performance of the query can be changed by changing the query like this :
select * from student where age = 20 and country ='India'
as first where clause will give 2000 results and next filter will be applicable on only 2000 rows. While in the former query first where clause would give 100000 rows and seconde filter, hence, would be applicable on 100000 rows???

in general the order of the where condition should not be important. However there are a few exeptions where sometimes it might play a role. Sometimes this is called order of filter conditions. Among others it depends on RBO or CBO used, Oracle Version, Indexes on the columns, statistic information on the table and the columns, CPU statistics in place etc.
If you want to make this query fast and you know that the age column has much better selectivity then you can simply put an index on the age column. An index on the country column is probably not useful at all, since to little different values are in this column. If you are already in 11g I would suggest to use a composite index on both columns with the more selective in first position.

Creating Restrictions in BEx query designer for (1-a), where a is variable.

My requirement is that I want to have " 1-fiscal year"., But this I could not define using offset variables, since using offset we can define "fiscal year +1" or "fiscal year -1".
So there would be some other way to define "1-fiscalyear". So Please help me to define "1-fiscalyear" by giving me the steps.

I am trying to query customers that has matching first and last name but, I am getting result of every customer that has first and last name. Here is what my query looks like:
SELECT * FROM CUSTOMERS WHERE
CUSTOMER_FNAME IN
'JOHN', 'MIKE'
AND CUSTOMER_LNAME IN
'DOE', 'MILLER'
); I am trying to query customer name that is JOHN DOE and MIKE MILLER but, i get result of all names that has the first/last names not exact match. Is there way i can do that get exact match?

And having an open ended search function on a web page is also not a great idea.
If you are using Apex, the for performance (and even query flexibility) it will be better creating a separate reporting region for each unique query. A boolean rendering condition checks the existing bind variables in order to determine if that specific reporting region should be executed.
This results in a reporting region having a proper and dedicated SQL query (no hacking of the where clause) and that region only being rendered for the proper combination of supplied filter criteria.
A slightly more complex, but more flexible approach, is using a generic reporting region that calls a PL/SQL function that creates returns the SQL query for execution and rendering. The approach to this is very similar to constructing a SQL ref cursor (dynamically) for a client. The only difference is that instead of creating the actual ref cursor, the code simply needs to return the SQL source code statement - with bind variables. The Apex run-time does the rest (does the binds and execution and rendering).
If you are not using Apex - you should still consider these approaches. And not hacking a single SQL to cater for all different types of filter conditions.

Dynamic where clause in select query

I'm trying for a dynamic query and in the dynamic where clause i'm checking a field for constant.....for instance if i wanna to use WERKS EQ '0478' how to declare it in dync where clause. i tried for the following:

heree CONDI = 'werks eq 0287' . in this case the query fails as the werks shud be equal to '0287' and not just 0287. How to handle this? i tried for the following
CONDI = 'werks eq " '0287' " ' but no luck as it is not a valid stmt as i knew.

Query Builder - Where Clause - Could not format error using date comparison

We've come across a bug in the Query Builder, under the Create Where Clause tab, if you select a column of Date type plus one of the comparison operators =, !=, <, >, <=, >=, BETWEEN or NOT BETWEEN it displays an error in the Logging Page:
Level: Severe
Source: o.d.r.queryBuilder.SQLGenerator
Message: Could not format :2010-09-02 16:20:31.0
Then under the Show SQL tab it doesn't display the date(s) you selected, e.g.
WHERE LAST_UPDATE BETWEEN AND
Also the View Results tab does not display any results.
You can still press Apply to add the SQL as is to the editor window and from there you have to manually code in the date parameters.
We're using the latest version of SQL Developer 2.1.1.64.45 Windows 32bit version with JDK

OID: Matching rule where clause is null

I've installed OIM 11.1.1.5.0 BP02 with OID connector 9.0.4.14. I am able to provision to OID and to run the "OID User Target Recon" scheduled task successfully. However, when I run the "OID User Trusted Recon" scheduled task, I get the error below. Does anyone know why this error is occurring and how to solve it?

Using Date in where clause

Hello all,
I am new to Oracle, currently using 10G + aspvbscript.
I've been trying to query data using date in where clause but nothing seems to work.
The column is in date format.
It gets printed out like this: 5/1/2010 11:21:19 AM
I tried using this query:
SELECT * from table where TRUNC(user_date) > to_date('FEB-01-2010:00:00:00','mm-dd-yyyy:HH24:MI:SS') order by user_date asc.
It does return an output but it returns everything in table and does not take WHERE clause into consideration however, it does sort the date in ascending order.
I've tried getting rid of TRUNC tried to format date in a different way but no such luck.
Please point me to the right direction.

In cases like this it is helpful if you can provide the following information:
1. Oracle version (SELECT * FROM V$VERSION)
2. Sample data in the form of CREATE / INSERT statements.
3. Expected output
4. Explanation of expected output (A.K.A. "business logic")
5. Use \ tags for #2 and #3. See FAQ (Link on top right side) for details.
I'll try and take a stab at your request based on the data given. What your query says is that it will return all rows that have a date greater then 2/1/2010 (MM/DD/YYYY). If your query is returning all rows then maybe the possibility exists that all the dates in the table are greater then 2/1/2010. Have you checked all dates to see if this is the case?
Also, one note about your TO_DATE() function.to_date('FEB-01-2010:00:00:00','mm-dd-yyyy:HH24:MI:SS')The date format does not match the string you are using with respect to month. Your string has 'FEB' but the format is 'MM' which is the numeric representation of the month. Although Oracle was able to convert it to the proper date on my system you should try and maintain consistency between the string and the date format used.

Where Clause in the Forms doesn't work

Hi,
I am trying to execute a query in base table block. The block property 'Query allowed' is TRUE and WHere clause is null;
I used 'SET_BLOCK_PROPERTY' and set the where clause. Did a GO_BLOCK and EXECUTE_QUERY;
The block brings all records as if there is no where clause. TO make sure I put up a message 'GET_BLOCK_PROPERTY' to see the where clause. It showed correct where clause.

Setting the where clause the way you did usually works, and it worked fine for me several times.
Yet, a couple of days ago I ran into something that defies my logic:
1) when using the "=" operator, it fetched me several records that satisfied the condition
2) when using the "<=" or ">=" operator it fetched only one of the records that satisfied the condition: the one that is strictly equal.
I tried using the pre-query trigger, but to no avail.

I select a human readble format with this statement:

Now I want to filter i.e. for dates of 19-01....
My first try was this:
select to_char(DATE '1970-01-01' + TRXTIMESTAMP / (24*3600*1000), 'DD-MM-YYYY HH24:MI:SS') as timestamp from txlog
where timestamp like '19-%'
Result:
ORA-00904: "TIMESTAMP": invalid identifier
My next try was this:
select to_char(DATE '1970-01-01' + TRXTIMESTAMP / (24*3600*1000), 'DD-MM-YYYY HH24:MI:SS') as timestamp from txlog
where 1 like '19%'
Result: 0 rows!
If I change this to

Firstly, why not store timestamps as timestamps?
Anyway, Your first select refers to the alias 'timestamp' which is only accessible in an outer query, not from within the where clause.
Try
Select * from (
select to_char(DATE '1970-01-01' + TRXTIMESTAMP / (24*3600*1000), 'DD-MM-YYYY HH24:MI:SS') as timestamp from txlog
where timestamp like '19-%';
But timestamp is not a good choice for an alias, as it is a keyword.
Your second select is obvious - the number 1 will never be like '19%', but it will work
in the third select: as 1 is indeed like '%' (anything).

Testcase:
- Create a VO based on 2 EO (Association already defined) --> Jon in WHERE Clause automatically created by Wizard
- Then modify the WHERE clause, e.g. change an equal to outer join.
- All works fine.
- Then add a EO (also Association defined) and chose some attributes.
- Test and wonder why there are much more rows in the result than expected.
- Look into the Query-Tab and control the WHERE clause: Wizard forgot to add the new join... and therefore we get a cartesian product between the old view and the new added EO...
Possible solutions to fix the Bug:
1. add the JOIN ;-)
or
2. at least display a warning that the JOIN is not automatically created!

Hi Markus-
Once the where clause has been customized, we don't update it in the interest of not messing up the user's custom code. However, we should probably warn the user in the types of cases you mention above that he will need to update the where clause manually to include the new information. We will add this in a future release.
