Query no longer returns expected values

I have been using the query function of Excel 2013 (Office 365) successfully to import stock quotes from MSN Money up until approximately 11:00 EST on 12-22-14. The query now returns text and data not consistent with prior query results. I can only assume
the web site has changed once again and the specific tables previously targeted are no longer there. I have an extensive workbook that I have customized to analyze stock data near real time which now appears to be worthless due to my inability to import the
needed data. Any thoughts, ideas or workarounds would be appreciated. I am not an excel VBA programmer. Thanks.

Respectfully George, but there are many users reporting this is NOT fully working. From my own experience the interface is still very flakey, although over the past few days the quotes for US exchange symbols has stabilized.
One key change to note, there has been a change to the interface, symbols must now be separated by commas, previously they could be separated by spaces.
Quotes for non-US exchange symbols are totally unstable. For years I've used the CA: prefix for stocks on the Toronto Stock Exchange and NL: prefix for stocks on the Amsterdam exchange. Since 12-22-14, sometimes I can get quotes returned, but most times
it silently fails and returns just the header/footer information but no quotes. Quotes for what I'll term "non US standard symbols", such as preferred shares on the TSX, i.e. PWF.PR.R are very hit and miss. Vanguard ETFs that trade on TSX don't seem
to work at all, for example CA:VCE or CA:VDU.
Another change that I've noticed in the returned information is the hyperlink underlying the company name column has changed. Before 12/22/14 quotes for CA:BCE and MSFT contained the following:
http://investing.money.msn.com/investments/stock-price?symbol=CA%3ABCE
http://investing.money.msn.com/investments/stock-price?symbol=MSFT
They now return:
http://www.msn.com/en-s/money/stockdetails/127.1.BCE.TSE
http://www.msn.com/en-us/money/stockdetails/126.1.MSFT.NAS
Could Microsoft please get this fully tested, across all Supported Exchanges, i.e. http://appexfinanceappupdate.blob.core.windows.net/financedocs/en-US/index.html before making statements that things are "working". As I said, based on all
the evidence from various posters here and on other forums, this service is only partially working and it isn't stable.

  • Select query failing to return all values

    So I've just completed my first batch insert into DocumentDB and ran into the following irregularity while verifying my documents were added correctly.  I am seeing this issue through the Portal Query Explorer and the Python SDK.
    I have found 4 id values that are in my collection, but won't get returned in a Select all type query.
    Queries I've used to select just that item/document.  These work correctly and return my document.  Therefore, I assume the document is in the collection.
    SELECT * FROM Matches m WHERE m.id = "2997"
    SELECT VALUE m.id FROM Matches m WHERE m.id = "2997"
    However, when doing a broader SELECT query, some ids are not returned.
    SELECT * FROM Matches
    SELECT VALUE m.id FROM Matches m
    Neither of the above queries return the document with id "2997".  I've three other ids where this is the case.
    Am I missing something obvious here, or is there a bug?  I've added all ~991 documents into the collection using the same batch program.
    Edit:  Here's a test program I've drawn up to show this issue (you can take my word for it that the clients are initialised correctly):  https://gist.github.com/Fitzpasd/1dde776b00eacf68b361
    And this prints:
    1
    991
    False
    False
    False
    True

    I also have some issues with pages. When I execute a simple query like:
    SELECT x FROM Root x
    or
    SELECT s FROM Root x JOIN s IN x.Children
    (The Children array contains more than 100 items)
    And I use the AsDocumentQuery() method in the c# API, iterating through the pages works fine (the continuation token is returned in the request)
    But when I execute the following query:
    SELECT s FROM Root x JOIN s IN x.Children WHERE x.id = "<guid>"
    the continuation token is not returned so I can't get to the next pages.
    Is this related to the same bug ?

    The table contains attributes like this;
    Col_1
    TOMATO
    ORANGE
    APPLE
    NULLSo what I was attempting to do was something like this;
    SELECT col_1 FROM table WHERE col_1 != 'TOMATO'
    I would then expect to see;
    Col_1
    ORANGE
    APPLE
    NULLBut instead I had the following returned;
    no rows selected
    Which is not correct.
    Apparently the fact that the column is 255 characters long is causing a problem, but I really dont understand why because I have other tables where I execute columns that are not the exact length of the content and yet the sort of query that I have used as an example work perfectly fine. For example;
    SQL> SELECT name
      2    FROM table_name
      3   WHERE name != 'HYGIENE MANAGEMENT'
      4  /
    NAME
    ACTION
    APPROVALS
    AUDITING
    BURNING
    COLLECTION
    COMMUNICATION
    COMPLIANCE
    DEVELOPMENT
    DISTURBANCE
    DOCUMENT CONTROL
    ERADICATION
    11 rows selected.
    SQL>And the ddl for the table looks like this;
      CREATE TABLE "TABLE_NAME"
       (     "ACT_ID" NUMBER,
         "NAME" VARCHAR2(50 BYTE) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "CREATED_BY" VARCHAR2(50 BYTE) DEFAULT 'USER',
         "CREATED_ON" DATE DEFAULT SYSDATE,
         "EFF_FROM" DATE DEFAULT SYSDATE,
         "EFF_TO" DATE,
         "DEFINITION" VARCHAR2(4000 BYTE),
         "STATUS" VARCHAR2(15 BYTE) DEFAULT 'CURRENT' NOT NULL ENABLE,
          CONSTRAINT "TABLE_NAME_CHK1" CHECK ( status IN ('CURRENT','NOT CURRENT')) ENABLE,
          CONSTRAINT "TABLE_NAME_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("ACT_ID");The name field in this instance is 50 characters long and the words 'HYGIENE MANAGEMENT' make up 18 characters.

  • 8i Query not returning expected records

    Using Oracle 8i (8.1.7), a basic spatial query is not returning all the expected results. Table1 contains a variety of polygons; table2 is simply a set of rectangles. I want to return all objects from table1 that intersect a particular rectangle. The query below mostly works, but misses out some objects. On my system, 38 objects are returned where about 41 are expected; on the client system (which does not have identical data) the problem appears to be much worse, with hardly any objects being returned. The missing objects are clearly visible on the map, surrounded on all sides by objects which have been selected correctly. Help?
    Select t1.id from table1 t1, table2 t2
    where t1.IsCurrent = -1
    and (sdo_relate(t1.geoloc, t2.geoloc, 'mask=ANYINTERACT querytype=WINDOW') = 'TRUE')
    AND (t2.ID in ('001'));

    Hi,
    When the non-spatial predicate is dropped, you mentioned the
    objects are not missing. This means the spatial index (which will
    surely be used in this case) should be returning correct results.
    But it is possible the index is not used when other predicates are
    specified. Please look at the "execution plan" in both cases (when the
    objects are missing/not missing).
    Rewrite the query as:
    select /*+ ORDERED INDEX(t1 <spatial_index_name>) */ t1.id from t2, t1
    This should ensure a spatial-index-based evaluation.
    Let us know the execution plans and the behavior in either case.
    Btw, one thing to check is your tolerance values in
    user_sdo_geom_metadata.

    Hi,
    It doesn't look like you posted either the complete query or the complete error message (including line number). Try again.
    "single row subquery return more then one row" usually means you are using a sub-query in a place where a single expression is expected, for example the column called avg_sal in this query:
    SELECT  ename
    ,       sal
    ,       (SELECT  AVG (sal) FROM scott.dept WHERE deptno = e.deptno) AS avg_sal  -- Scalar-sub-query
    FROM    scott.emp  e; The error occurs when the sub-query returns more than one row
    If the sub-querry really is supoosed to be returning only one row, the solution is to fix the sub-query, usually be adding something to the WHERE clause.
    If the sub-query is supposed to return more than one row, then the main query has to be re-written, perhaps as a join.
    Post a little sample data and the results you want from that data if you need help.

  • Single query return multiple value

    Hi ALL,
    I have a sql query as below :
    select order_number,
    (select decode(hcp.contact_point_purpose,'ABC',hcp.email_address,'CDE',hcp.email_address,null)
    from hz_contact_points,
    hz_parties hz
    WHERE hz.party_id=hcp.owner_table_id) Email
    FROM oe_order_headers_all h
    WHERE h.order_number='102'
    Actually the problem i am facing is the inner select query is returning multiple row , so my main query is erroring out, i need to capture the multiple row.
    in the above example the inner decode statement returning two mail address, i need to capture that, but while executing the whole query it is erroring out as saying single query returns multiple values.
    please help me on this to capture multiple values
    Thanks

    >
    select order_number,
    (select decode(hcp.contact_point_purpose,'ABC',hcp.email_address,'CDE',hcp.email_address,null)

    WHERE hz.party_id=hcp.owner_table_id
    /* a join is missing here that points to table oe_order_headers_all h*/) Email
    FROM oe_order_headers_all h
    WHERE h.order_number='102'
    >
    I can see a join missing in your select sub query.
    However, if you you are still getting the single query return multiple value error then you need to replace the sql sub query
    select decode(hcp.contact_point_purpose,'ABC',hcp.email_address,'CDE',hcp.email_address,null)
    from hz_contact_points,
    hz_parties hz
    WHERE hz.party_id=hcp.owner_table_id)by decode(hcp.contact_point_purpose,'ABC',hcp.email_address,'CDE',hcp.email_address,null)
    and join the two tables in you main query..

    The Result should never be null but can be empty. You can check if the Result is empty using an if tag and checking the rowCount property:

  • Updating a table with a query that return multiple values

    Hi,
    I'm trying to update a table which contain these fields : ItemID, InventoryID, total amounts
    with a query that return these values itemId, inventoryid and total amounts for each items
    Mind you, not all the rows in the table need to be updated. only a few.
    This what i wrote but doesn't work since the query return multiple values so i can't assign it to journalAmounts.
    UPDATE [bmssa].[etshortagetemp]
    SET JournalAmounts = (SELECT sum(b.BomQty) FROM [bmssa].[Bom] b
    JOIN [bmssa].[SalesLine] sl ON sl.ItemBomId = b.BomId

    WHERE st.SalesType = 0 AND (st.SalesStatus IN (0,1,8,12,13)) AND st.DataAreaId = 'sdi'
    GROUP BY b.itemid, b.inventdimid)
    Any advise how to do this task?

    Remember that link to the documentation posted above that explains exactly how to do this. When you read it which part exactly were you having trouble with?

    I refuse to read all of that code and guess what error message you are getting. Apparently others feel the same way.
    Run the final SQL statement and then cut and paste the code and full error statement into a post.
    Also include your full version number to three decimal places.
    My refusal is not an unwillingness to help you but rather an unwillingness to spend 10 minutes reconstructing what you could have pasted in in a fraction of a second. We are all volunteers here and there are many people that need help. I hope you understand.

    END;
    My problem is:
    suppose if such branch_code does not exist, then
    it will go exception part.
    I was expecting the 'No data ...error message ' in my forms.
    but Instead of that a message such as 'Unhandled exception occurs.
    I also tried returning a value like :
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN no_data_found then
    Dbms_output.put_line('No data found in General Serial number for '||doc_vr);
    return('ERROR');
    --raise_application_error(-20100,sqlerrm);
    END;
    It was working then.
    My question is: how do I display the whole error message on my form and raise form_trigger_failure ?
    ( also the one in the subject line!)

    A comment on using exception handlers and raising exceptions.
    WHEN no_data_found then
      Dbms_output.put_line('No data found in General Serial number for '||doc_vr);
      raise_application_error(-20100,sqlerrm); DBMS_OUTPUT is superfluous and meaningless in production code. It should not be there... and if debugging is required, then it is easy to make it vastly superior than the very primitive DBMS_OUTPUT interface.
    Ditto for RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR. Calling this system procedure directly, does not support logging and tracing and troubleshooting and debugging problems.
    One of the basic (I would call it the very most basic) rules in software development is to modularise. This includes wrapping system calls into wrappers - that allows additional flexibility and makes maintenance and development a lot easier.
    Instead of calling RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR, create a wrapper PL/SQL procedure called something like RaiseException().
    Input parameters would typically be an error message number. The message for the error can also be passed.. though I prefer to have a message array (static PL/SQL var) that can be used to lookup the error message for that error code.
    As all exceptions are now raised via a single proc that you control, you can easily add debug information to it. Log the exception (using an autonomous transaction) in a log table. Add the PL/SQL call stack to the message. Write an error to the alert log for those real critical fubar errors. Call DBMS_OUTPUT if need be. Even send the error message to a DBMS_PIPE for an error console to pick up and display interactively.
    Designing and coding wrappers for system calls are a critical cornerstone of an application that is flexible and easy to maintain and extend.

  • Access Parameter Query by form, returns a form for each returned value

    I have a form set up with a parameter query. It returns data from multiple tables. My problem is it returns the data for say 7 records, but then it repeats the entire form 7 times, the forms are identical with all the data included. I want it to return
    the data on one form. It must be a setting, or statement that is lacking but I can't seem to find it.

    Hans,
    Thank You for the response. I first changed the setting in the SubForm Query, same result. Then I changed it in the Report, still no difference. After reading some information in other forums it may be because I am pulling the data from the Tables using
    the InvoiceNum field from one table, on both the Report and the SubForm, and I have the Report and Subform linked by this field. The InvoiceNum field is the Foreign key created to pull the desired data, if I don't use it I get all the data in the tables, not
    just the data I need.

  • Registry calls return wrong values - how to fix?

    Here is the code used to open the key (all the variations shown produce the same behaviour)
    bool Win32_OpenKey( const HKEY uPlaceInRegistry, HKEY& xKey, const char* const szKeyName, const bool bReadOnly = false )
    // SE: make sure key exists
    // SE - NOTE: this is deprecated. it worked fine, but suddenly doesnt :(
    // so i have replaced it with the following line
    //const bool bOpened = RegOpenKey( uPlaceInRegistry, szKeyName, &xKey ) == ERROR_SUCCESS;
    const bool bOpened = RegOpenKeyEx( uPlaceInRegistry, szKeyName, 0,
    bReadOnly ? KEY_QUERY_VALUE : KEY_ALL_ACCESS, &xKey ) == ERROR_SUCCESS;
    bool bCreated = false;
    if( !bOpened )
    // SE - NOTE: this is deprecated. it worked fine, but suddenly doesnt :(
    // the Licensor will create keys except in the case where we upgrade a user from
    // an old license... so now using the Ex version in hopes it magically works.
    //bCreated = RegCreateKey( uPlaceInRegistry, szKeyName, &xKey ) == ERROR_SUCCESS;
    DWORD uDisposition = -1;
    bCreated = ( RegCreateKeyEx( uPlaceInRegistry, szKeyName, 0, 0,
    REG_OPTION_NON_VOLATILE, bReadOnly ? KEY_QUERY_VALUE : KEY_ALL_ACCESS,
    0, &xKey, &uDisposition )
    == ERROR_SUCCESS );
    return bOpened || bCreated;
    Here is where the values are queried.
    unsigned int uMagic = 0;
    unsigned long uType = 0xFFFFFFFF;
    unsigned long uSize = sizeof( unsigned int );
    //long err = RegGetValue( xKey, 0, "Magic", RRF_RT_DWORD, &uType, &uActivated, &uSize );
    uType = REG_DWORD;
    long err = RegQueryValueEx( xKey, "Magic", 0, &uType, reinterpret_cast< LPBYTE >( &uMagic ), &uSize );
    if( (err == ERROR_SUCCESS) && ( uType == REG_DWORD ) && ( uSize == sizeof( unsigned int ) ) )
    unsigned long long ullReadStartDate = 0;
    uSize = sizeof( unsigned long long );
    err = RegGetValue( xKey, 0, "Number", RRF_RT_QWORD, &uType, &ullReadStartDate, &uSize );
    if( (err == ERROR_SUCCESS) && ( uType == REG_QWORD ) && ( uSize == sizeof( unsigned long long ) ) )
    The values that are returned do not match the registry.
    In fact the values returned are values that we never would have written either. The zero is fishy because maybe it indicates bad behaviour. The messed up time_t value is even more confusing... it comes from a more than 30 days ago, which is around the time
    when I first started working on this code.
    To make a guess I am getting back an ancient version of the key values which is somehow preserved and accessible but can not be seen in regedit. I have no idea why this is suddenly happening either - this code (before my commented changes were made) worked
    exactly as expected for a few weeks now.
    Slightly unrelated but it also seems that a standard user can not write to HKCU in our repeatable tests. This seems slightly crazy as well... should I just not be using the registry? It never seemed like a good idea, but I have done it to try and fit the
    platform way of doing things after hitting lots of problems with naive use of files...

    thanks for the tips. will probably come in handy in the future. :)
    it turned out to be permissions and bad documentation in my case. the virtual store thing was not writing to where the docs say it should, and so something was lingering somewhere i couldn't find in the right place under any of the top level registry keys.
    maybe there is some other place where it has gone in the registry that i am just not finding the documentation for...
    my ultimate fix was to use a file in ProgramData :)
    I figured I'd try and do it 'the MS way' and use the registry. what a terrible idea that turned out to be, since I guess its no longer the MS way given how riddled with backwards compatibility hacks it seems to be...

  • [UIX] How To: Return multiple values from a LOV

    Hi gang
    I've been receiving a number of queries via email on how to return multiple items from a LOV using UIX thanks to earlier posts of mine on OTN. I'm unfortunately aware my previous posts on this are not that clear thanks to the nature of the forums Q&A type approach. So I thought I'd write one clear post, and then direct any queries to it from now on to save me time.
    Following is my solution to this problem. Please note it's just one method of many in skinning a cat. It's my understanding via chatting to Oracle employees that LOVs are to be changed in a future release of JDeveloper to be more like Oracle Forms LOVs, so my skinning skills may be rather bloody & crude very soon (already?).
    I'll base my example on the hr schema supplied with the standard RDBMS install.
    Say we have an UIX input-form screen to modify an employees record. The employees record has a department_id field and a fk to the departments table. Our requirement is to build a LOV for the department_id field such that we can link the employees record to any department_id in the database. In turn we want the department_name shown on the employees input form, so this must be returned via the LOV too.
    To meet this requirement follow these steps:
    1) In your ADF BC model project, create 2 EOs for employees and departments.
    2) Also in your model, create 2 VOs for the same EOs.
    3) Open your employees VO and create a new attribute DepartmentName. Check “selected in query”. In expressions type “(SELECT dept.department_name FROM departments dept WHERE dept.department_id = employees.department_id)”. Check Updateable “always”.
    4) Create a new empty UIX page in your ViewController project called editEmployees.uix.
    5) From the data control palette, drag and drop EmployeesView1 as an input-form. Notice that the new field DepartmentName is also included in the input-form.
    6) As the DepartmentName will be populated either from querying existing employees records, or via the LOV, disable the field as the user should not have the ability to edit it.
    7) Select the DepartmentId field and delete it. In the UI Model window delete the DepartmentId binding.
    8) From the data controls palette, drag and drop the DepartmentId field as a messageLovInput onto your page. Note in your application navigator a new UIX page lovWindow0.uix (or similar) has been created for you.
    9) While the lovWindow0.uix is still in italics (before you save it), rename the file to departmentsLov.uix.
    10) Back in your editEmployees.uix page, your messageLovInput source will look like the following:
    <messageLovInput
        model="${bindings.DepartmentId}"
        id="${bindings.DepartmentId.path}"
        destination="lovWindow0.uix"/>Change it to be:
    <messageLovInput
        model="${bindings.DepartmentId}"
        id="DepartmentId"
        destination="departmentsLov.uix"
        partialRenderMode="multiple"
        partialTargets="_uixState DepartmentName"/>11) Also change your DepartmentName source to look like the following:
    <messageTextInput
        id=”DepartmentName”
        model="${bindings.DepartmentName}"
        columns="10"
        disabled="true"/>12) Open your departmentsLov.uix page.
    13) In the data control palette, drag and drop the DepartmentId field of the DepartmentView1 as a LovTable into the Results area on your page.
    14) Notice in the UI Model window that the 3 binding controls have been created for you, an iterator, a range and a binding for DepartmentId.
    15) Right click on the DepartmentsLovUIModel node in the UI Model window, then create binding, display, and finally attribute. The attribute binding editor will pop up. In the select-an-iterator drop down select the DepartmentsView1Iterator. Now select DepartmentName in the attribute list and then the ok button.
    16) Note in the UI Model you now have a new binding called DCDefaultControl. Select this, and in the property palette change the Id to DepartmentName.
    17) View the LOV page’s source, and change the lovUpdate event as follows:
    <event name="lovSelect">
        <compound>
            <set value="${bindings.DepartmentId.inputValue}" target="${sessionScope}" property="MyAppDepartmentId" />
            <set value="${bindings.DepartmentName.inputValue}" target="${sessionScope}" property="MyAppDepartmentName" />
        </compound>
    </event>18) Return to editEmployees.uix source, and modify the lovUpdate event to look as follows:
    <event name="lovUpdate">
        <compound>
            <set value="${sessionScope.MyAppDepartmentId}" target="${bindings.DepartmentId}" property="inputValue"/>
            <set value="${sessionScope.MyAppDepartmentName}" target="${bindings.DepartmentName}" property="inputValue"/>
        </compound>
    </event>That’s it. Now when you select a value in your LOV, it will return 2 (multiple!) values.
    A couple things to note:
    1) In the messageLovInput id field we don’t use the “.path” notation. This is mechanism for returning 1 value from the LOV and is useless for us.
    2) Again in the messageLovInput we supply “_uixState” as an entry in the partialTargets.
    3) We are relying on partial-page-refresh functionality to update multiple items on the screen.
    I’m not going to take the time out to explain these 3 points, but it’s worthwhile you learning more about them, especially the last 2, as a separate exercise.
    One other useful thing to do is, in your messageLovInput, include as a last entry in the partialTargets list “MessageBox”. In turn locate the messageBox control on your page (if any), and supply an id=”MessageBox”. This will allow the LOV to place any errors raised in the MessageBox and show them to the user.
    I hope this works for you :)
    Cheers,
    CM.

    Thanks Chris,
    It took me some time to find the information I needed, how to use return multiple values from a LOV popup window, then I found your post and all problems were solved. Its working perfectly, well, almost perfectly.
    Im always fighting with ADF-UIX, it never does the thing that I expect it to do, I guess its because I have a hard time letting go of the total control you have as a developer and let the framework take care of a few things.
    Anyway, I'm using your example to fill 5 fields at once, one of the fields being a messageChoice (a list with countries) with a LOV to a lookup table (id , country).
    I return the countryId from the popup LOV window, that works great, but it doesn't set the correct value in my messageChoice . I think its because its using the CountryId for the listbox index.
    So how can I select the correct value inside my messageChoice? Come to think of it, I dont realy think its LOV related...
    Can someone help me out out here?
    Kind regards
    Ido
