Query regarding CPU patches

Hi,
As per my understanding CPU patches are released every quarter for each version & realease of oracle database.
I am using Oracle 10.2.0.3 on IBM-AIX 5.3 (64 bit).
I checked on below link of metalink.
Patches & Updates -> Oracle Server/Tools -> Latest Patchsets -> Latest Oracle Server/Tools Patchsets -> Then selected oracle database and OS version -> Patch Type selected as Any -> Classification selected as High/Security -> Go
But the above gives me no CPU patch list!!!!
So is it no mandatory that each & every quarted we will get a new CPU patch from oracle? Or am I doing any mistake in selection above?
Thanks in advance.
Best Regards,
oratest

Hi Srini,
Thanks for your reply.
As per the link doc, the primary support for 10.2 has been ended on July-2010, and the extended support will end on July-2013.
And as you mentioned that CPU patches are released in extended support as well, so as of now I must see CPU patch in metalink for my database release (10.2.0.3). But I can not see any CPU patch for my version, release??
One more thing: As per my understanding CPU patches comes under High/Security patch classification, am I right?
Best Regards,
oratest

  • Query regarding database patching

    Hi ,
I am on Oracle 11G and Solaris SPARC 64-bit server.
The server admin have applied the oracle CPU that was released on April 18,2011.
I have the path to the new oracle home now.
Currently my oracle home is 11.1.0.7.P1 and the new oracle home is
    11.1.0.7.P2.
Now the practice that i have been following to change my oracle home(Patching) is :
    1. Shutdown db
    2. Change oratab with new home:Y
    3. Change my .profile for $ORACLE_HOME
    4. Startup the database with init.ora
    5. Run catbundle.sql cpu apply
    6. Run recompile_precheck_jan2008cpu.apply
    7. View_recompile_jan2008cpu.sql
    8. Shutdown immediate and startup
    9. Change oracle home in listener.ora
10.Create softlink of init.ora to /dbs/ of new oracle home.
    Now I have 2 queries :
1.Since the database runs fine post it , I am not able to conclude
if any other sql also needs to be run ?
    2. What is the location of the readme.txt and readme.html which i need to check for invalid objects.
I have searched but couldn find it. :(
Also , How do i test the performance pre and post patching..
Will doing it by just checking the time taken for Data loads pre and post
    patching sufficient.
What other checks can i do in dev to test for patch.
    Thanks and Regards
    Kk

  • CPU Patches to EBS

    Hello :
I have successfully upgraded the system to latest patchsets. The database is already on 11g. The only thing which is pending now is the CPU Patches.
I know that the Database and the Application tier CPU patch is cumulative where as the EBS suite patch is not cumulative.
For me to apply the EBS suite CPU's I need to know the current CPU patch applied to it. If I know this then I can probably list all the CPU patches that needs to be applied to the system. Is there any way or query that I can use to get this information.
Please advice any good reference material to carry out this patching. I want to merge all the EBS patches together and then apply it in one shot.
    Regards,
    Bala

  • APPLYING CPU PATCHES

    Hi Hussein:
I am planning to apply the CPU patches for my EBS instance. I know that the application server and the Database server patchsets are cumulative. So I can apply the latest CPU.But the EBS patchsets are not cumulative. In order to get the list of all the patches that needs to be applied since April 2006,I need to query AD_APPLIED_PATCHES with the EBS patch numbers since April 2006 right? Is this the right approach.
    Regards,
    Bala

    Bala,
If your instance release is 11i then you are correct. You need to query AD_APPLIED_PATCHES (I would prefer querying AD_BUGS table) to get the list of applied patches.
In R12, CPU patches are cumulative.

  • CPU patch July 2010 on Oracle 11.1.0.7 database

    Hi,
I want to install the July2010 CPU patch (9655014) on a 11.1.0.7 database which was initially created with version 11.1.0.6.
The README file of the patch states the following about recompiling views:
3.2.2.2 Recompiling Views in the Database
You may skip this section if you have recompiled views for this database during the installation of a previous CPU or if the database was created with Release 11.1.0.6 or later.
So I assumed that I do not need to recompile the views but a little further in the README file I read:
If you want to check whether view recompilation has already been performed for the database, execute the following statement.
    SELECT * FROM registry$history where ID = '6452863';
If the view recompilation has been performed, this statement returns one or more rows. If the view recompilation has not been performed, this statement returns no rows.
When I execute the select it returns no rows. So this is confusing. Should I perform a view recompilation or not?
And when I execute recompile_precheck_jan2008cpu.sql (strange name for a July 2010 CPU) it says:
    SQL> @recompile_precheck_jan2008cpu.sql
    Running precheck.sql...
Number of views to be recompiled :1969
Number of objects to be recompiled :4019
Please follow the README.txt instructions for running viewrecomp.sql
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    thanks in advance.
    regards,
    Ivan

Short answer: you dont need to run view_recompile_jan2008cpu.sql
    Long answer:
    >
    SELECT * FROM registry$history where ID = '6452863';
If the view recompilation has been performed, this statement returns one or more rows. If the view recompilation has not been performed, this statement returns no rows.
When I execute the select it returns no rows. So this is confusing. Should I perform a view recompilation or not?
    >
You will only get an entry in registry$history if you had a database that you had actually run the view_recompile_jan2008cpu.sql script which inserts a row into the table at the end of the script:
    view_recompile_jan2008cpu.sql
    Rem =======================================================================
Rem Insert values for patch into registry.
    Rem =======================================================================

This script has a very simple logic that just generates count of views and dependant objects that would need recompilation. The selection criteria does not include actually checking whether you actually need to apply the view recompilation script.
    You can test this yourself:
Case#1: Run the recompile_precheck_jan2008cpu.sql on a database where you have applied the view recompilation script. You will find the count shows a non-zero value.
    SQL> col action_time format a32
    SQL> col version format a15
    SQL> col version format a15
    SQL> select action_time, version, id from registry$history where ID=6452863;
    ACTION_TIME                      VERSION                 ID
    24-JUL-10 12.52.15.390000 PM                        6452863
    SQL> @recompile_precheck_jan2008cpu.sql
    Running precheck.sql...
Number of views to be recompiled :1637
Number of objects to be recompiled :3487
Please follow the README.txt instructions for running viewrecomp.sql
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.Case#2: Create a new database using a version that does not require the view recompilation patch. Run the recompile_precheck_jan2008cpu.sql. You will find the view count shows a non-zero value even though you do not need to recompile the views as mentioned in the Oracle patch notes.

  • CPU Patch for SOA BPEL -10.1.3.5 and B2B -10.1.2.0.4

We are in DOD -GOVT US marine corps.. WE are on 10.1.3.3.1 .. There is no CPU Patches for 10.1.3.3.1 nor
    for 10.1.2.03-B2B
    open issues/questions:
    Open Issues:
    1. What is Oracle's recommendation about upgrading 10.1.3.5 vs 10.1.3.4 (CPU Patch support length). Also CPU Patch support policy for BAM 10.1.3.3.1 and B2B 10.1.2.3.
    2. Any MLRs to apply after upgrading SOA/BPEL/WSM/BAM/B2B 10.1.3.5 ?
    3. Interoperability of OWSM 10.1.3.4, BAM 10.1.3.3.1, B2B 10.1.2.3 and SOA/BPEL 10.1.3.5. Can they co-exist or must they(one or more) be in same release level?

  • FTPing .zip CPU patch files...

    Hi
I have downloaded a .zip file for Oracle CPU Patch and wants to move it to UINX server. After connecting the UNIX server, beofre I say "put <filename>"...do I have to say "binary"?
Your answer will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards
    Ahmed.

    Hello,
Besides the previous answer, generally (if you click on the patch detail) you have the size of the zip file in bytes.
    For instance:
Size 1.1G (1123325074 bytes) So, once you have sent the zip file on the Unix server, you can check if it's size is correct.
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,

  • Database rolling upgrade cpu patch with minimal service outage

    Oracle 11gR2 Primary Instance
    Oracle 11gR2 Active Physical Standby
Requirement of applying CPU and CVE patches with minimal downtime. I believe that I've been able to apply CPU patch to Active Standby after deferring redo transport and applying patch to active physical standby first and then performing a manual switchover to have the standby become the primary and former-primary become the standby and they apply CPU Patch there and then perform another role transition to its original role.
Appreciate your experience with primary and active physical standby rolling upgrades/patches. Thanks

    Hello;
I believe you are over thinking this. All you have to do on the Standby is install the patch. No switchover, no SQL. No nothing.
The SQL will move from the Primary to the Standby.
Check the readme for the patch closely or post the patch number if you want to confirm.
    OR
How do you apply a Patchset,PSU or CPU in a Data Guard Physical Standby configuration [ID 278641.1]
( If it helps I had the same thoughts after my first Data Guard setup !! )
If you are trying to avoid downtime entirely the switchover will take about as long as the patch.
If you have RAC this is interesting :

  • Applying 10.2.0.5 Cpu Patch

    Hello All,
    I am a newbie here.
We are applying the CPU patch to our 10.2.0.5 Database. I have some general questions.
The database is in archive mode and jobs are scheduled in crontab.
As we have to down the database to apply the patch, should i stop taking the backup and also should i keep the database in no archive mode?
    Thanks.

    Thank you very much.
Also, Is there any query to check the backup location?
I checked in RMAN. It doesnt say any specific location.
    RMAN> show all;
    RMAN configuration parameters are:

  • Sapstart fails after installation of CPU-Patch April2009 on Oracle 10.2.0.4

    Hi Experts,
after installing the CPU-Patch April2009 for Oracle 10.2.0.4, startsap fails with error code 12.
Starting everything manually works (lsnrctl start, sqlplus and do startup, after that startsap works).
When the listener and the database are running, things like R3trans -x also work without errors.
I found a SAP-Note 97953 but I don't know if this is the solution. Some of the oracle-executables in the bin-directory have been modified. So there is a "oracle" and a "oracle0" . The timestamp indicates to me that these files were modified while implementing the CPU-Patch.
I also checked SAP-Note 583861but with no success.
    regards
    Dirk

    Hi Markus,
if the database ist down and I execute "R3trans -d" I'll get the following error.

If the database is up everything works. Here is the output of "R3trans -d"
    R3trans -d
    This is R3trans version 6.18 (release 710 - 08.10.07 - 13:37:00).
    unicode enabled version
    R3trans finished (0000).
For me this all looks o.k. when the database is down R3trans won't be able to reach it and if the database is up it works. But why I can't then just execute "sapstart" ?

I have requested the "on request" patch for the Oracle Database Management Plug-in for the 12.1.0.1 Home, but was told by Oracle Support that there was no patch. I am on Solaris Sparc 64. I looked at the CVE-2012-1737 advisory, and I am trying to figure out if the vulnerability does not apply to my platform, but frankly can't figure it out from that document, and the support person did not elaborate. Have you been given a patch?

    Hi user8884603,
as Rajesh has mentioned, all info is in the readme file, but lookout specifically:
If you can apply the patch while the DB is open or CRS is started.
If you must apply the patch on all nodes in the cluster or only from 1 node.
As which user specific tasks must be done.
    Hope this is helpful.
    Regards.
