Question abt Delta, Legacy system and Regression Testing..

Dear SAP Guru's,
I am New to SAP FICO and had a few q's..
1) I wanted to know what is Delta and how is it used in SAP FICO?
2) I even wanted to know a names of some Financial Legacy Systems?
3) How to do regression testing? Does it require knowledge of ABAP?
Please let me know the exact details of above questions.
Thanks.
SJ

Hi,
1) Delta usually refers to incremental change in functionalities/contents etc., Enhancements/Changes on account of new versions of SAP compared to older versions lead to delta.
2) Legacy systems usually refer to in house applications and typically stand alone. there are many and it might be difficult to name.
3) Regression testing is carried normally to check if any functionality working before is not working as desired now, usually consequence of a program change etc., It aslo includes re-running previously run tests and checking whether previously fixed faults have reemerged. Tools like Mercury's WinRunner are used for this purpose.

  • However, we've had issues with other legacy systems and programs for outlook

I have a user who when she logs into her workstation and tries to access her outlook folders she is denied access. If she removes and then adds them back they work. Only one other person on our network had this problem which I initially thought was connectivity
related. I replaced their cat five cable and that seemed to solve their problem. I tried this with this user and it cleared up for about a week but happened again today. Any thoughts or experience with this. Outlook doesnt support archives in a network share
so I cant turn to them. It uses a login batch script to load mapped drives according to department. This all predates me so I did not build them. However, we've had issues with other legacy systems and programs so it is highly possible that this could be an
    issue.

    Will:Hi! Hi!
I use Firefox and it is now No. 1 on my choice of browsers. I agree it doesn't like the "for IE only" coded sites but then IE is now a non issue as it is dead in the water! So Safari is now really bloated and getting slower by the version. Firefox is quick, good to look at with numerous skins, and what is more has become the browser of choice for web developers on both platforms because it sticks to the WWC3 code. Camino is just another flavour of Netscape which seems to be a bloat AOL IE wannabee product. Do yourself a favour and download Firefox. Give it a few spins around the block and I'm sure you will agree. As for the sites it declines to accept because of bad code, then I would suggest a strong letter of protest to the webmaster! For too long IE has been flouting the rules and trying to be the only game in town. Take some affirmative action and let the webmasters know there are other browsers available to users. • How to make interconnection between a legacy system and SAP system?

    Hi Group,
I have a query on the interconnectivity between a legacy system( non-SAP ) and an SAP system.
The legacy provides data in the form of Files only.
    my queries are as under:
    1)
how can I make a connection to the Legacy from my SAP system?
    2)
what are the different ways by which I can connect these 2 different systems?
    3)
I hope there might be a chance of connecting the systems by way of using webservices, in this case what are the things I need to follow inorder to make the connection and get the data from legacy?
please provide me with necessary info on these queries to proceed further.
    thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Vishnu.

    Hi,
U can use the GUI function m modules to fetch the data from legacy systems.
Also With the help of Remote FMs u can get connected to the SAP backgrounds from NON SAP background like Portal.XI is an interfacing tool used to connect 2 SAP or SAP to non SAP medium.

  • Question on Deltas after Init and Full load

    Hi
We have an ODS X pushing data to two cubes A & B. ODS X data is initialized to Cube A long back and deltas are loading every day. Now We have recently created Cube B and made a fulll load from ODS X and loading the Deltas from ODS X with same info package we are using to load the deltas in to cube A. Do we get any data inconsistencies if we load like this ? Do I need to make a new init for Cube B to get proper deltas ? I'm hoping that Deltas will automatically take care of reversal in Cube B too...Please advice.
    Thanks
    Sam

This looks fine, since u have already done full load from X to B, and currently loading delta to both A n B , it is fine, no need for new init.

  • Question about Processors, Operating Systems and TFLOPS

Hi guys, I recently read an article about the power of the PS3 consoles. This is a table that I copied from it, which I don't really undestand. All I can see is that the Mac OSX shows the least number of TFLOPs for both PowerPC and Intel architectures. That doesn't seem to be good. If there's anyone out there who can translate the details into "basic language" I would appreciate it.
    OS Type------------Current TFLOPS----Active CPUs---Total CPUs
    Windows------------152--------------159564------1625622
    Mac OS X/PowerPC------7----------------8737--------95371
    Mac OS X/Intel---------9----------------2756----------7272
    Linux----------------43---------------25126-------215901
    GPU-----------------42-----------------708----------2199
    PLAYSTATION®3-----516---------------21062---------22299
    ==============================================
    Total----------------769--------------217953-------1968664
If you are further interested, or the table became unreadable, or both, this is the link to the original article.
Thank you very much in advance.

Yes, you are misinterpreting the data.
What you're looking at is the workload on some distributed computing task like folding@home, right?
What it's telling you is that at the time you checked, Windows computers were contributing 152 TFLOPs (trillions of operations per second), PowerPC-based Macs contributed 7, Intel-based Macs added 9, and 516 from the PS3.
However, you also need to take into account the number of active machines.
Those 152 Windows TFLOPS were the combined output of 159,564 CPUs, for an average of 0.0009525958 TFLOPS/CPU.
By comparison, the 7 PowerPC TFLOPS were from 8737 CPUs, or 0..0008011903 TFLOPS/CPU - not all that much different and statistically insignificant.
The Intel Macs' 9 TFLOPS from 2756 CPUs equates to 0.0032656023 TFLOPS/CPU - significantly higher than either of the other two results.
The PS3 on the other hand contributes 516 TFLOPS from 21062 CPUs, for 0.0244990979 TFLOPS/CPU - an order of magnitude higher still.
I'd take the results with a large pinch of salt, though - is that 7 TFLOPS for the PowerPCs, 6.5, or 7.49? That makes a big difference.
Also, consider that when the PS3 is running the code, that's all its doing. Any other OS is going to be running other applications at the same time.
Don't get me wrong, the Cell processor is certainly pulling its weight, but don't discard the GPU - its 42 TFLOPS come from just 708 CPUs, for an average of 0.0593220338 TFLOPs/CPU - two and a half times that of the PS3.

  • Automated Regression Testing

Apologies for putting a more advanced question in a general forum but there is no Topic for QA/Testing (that I know of).
Okay, I've been tasked with finding a solution for fully automated unit, component, system, and regression testing. I realize that sounds like a tall order and can't truly be done. However, I'd like to get as close as possible to being able to test every aspect of our system and thought I'd post to the community for ideas. We have a typical multi-tiered web app. We have a web interface, business logic on the server-side, Web Services, DAO, etc. Naturally, some combination of testing needs to be performed. So I suppose that first I need to make a list of all the (general) types of testing that can be done. So far I have:
    - syntax validation
    - link checking
    - unit testing
    - record and playback (robot user for web UI)
    - custom scripting (for anything I can't buy a tool for)
    - performance monitoring & stress testing
    - security testing
    - etc.
So I guess my first question is: What other types of testing am I missing here? I honestly think I'll end up with 2-3 sets of tests that hopefully give me good testing coverage. The end goal is to have a nightly build that includes a series of tests which generate reports. So in the morning someone can open the reports and see if anything's really busted. So basically, after the build finishes, the tests should be kicked off. I'd like to use Ant for this but I suppose a cron job could be written or whatever. I'm not worried about that right now.
Anyway, I don't have very specific requirements yet but I'm thinking of breaking my work up into unit, component, and system level testing. My initial thoughts are that I'd need:
    1. Unit Testing - Ant would simply kick off all the JUnit tests we have available. This would do basic class level testing and validation.
    2. Component Testing - Custom Java code/scripts that would tests some specific functional area. This is open ended in my mind as I'm not that familir with the codebase yet. But an example would be "register a user" or "make a reservation".
    3. System Testing - Needs to simuilate a user hitting the web interface and would invoke all tiers. So I'm guessing I need to buy some software product to fill out forms automatically and whatever else.
Can you all let me know if there's anything major I'm missing? What methodologies or tools do you recommend? Any links on good tech articles regarding this? Anything comments or feedback welcome.
    Thanks in advance!

I'd recommend adding automated acceptance testing to the list of things to consider. Example:

  • Adjustment of inventory between SAP and Legacy system

    Hi Gurus,
    Here is the scenario:
    1) One plant within a company code is in SAP and the other plant in a same company code is still in legacy. Since both of them are Not in SAP, I cannot do an STO.  But, ROH materials need to be moved from the legacy plant to the plant in SAP. I cannot treat the legacy plant as a Vendor, since we are Not paying them. But, still, we should make sure that the inventory needs to be devaulated by the monetary value of the goods taken out and the other inventory (plant in SAP) needs to be enriched by such monetary value.
    2) Similar situation as above, but between 2 Company Codes of same controlling area. Here one Company Code is in SAP, other is in legacy, but, when the other company code will be in SAP, it will be under same controlling area. The two companies are under one business. Some type of intercompany transfer (netting) needs to be done. Here, I have to treat the legacy company as a Vendor.(but modifying bank details)
I understand, that it may not be possible in standard SAP, but what type of custom developments should I put up ? Any type of custom movement types? How should I set up the Vendor Master (in case of second scenario, the bank details to involve the netting thing).
Any type of information is very valuable and I would be indeed very grateful.
    Thanks,
    Kumar

For requirement 1, I suggest you keep track of the inventory acct for legacy and SAP system as separate acct to simplify reconciliation. Once this is done, you can use transaction MB1C movement 561 (or a copy of this movement type). This movement allows you to enter transaction amount in local currency as well; if this is not available, you can customize this through configuration for field selection of movement type (OMJJ). So through this posting, you can enter corresponding material, plant, quantity, and transaction amount that's passed from legacy system. In the account determination, you can set the opposite entry for inventory acct as the inventory acct from legacy system.
You can then setup an interface that periodically extract GI txn on legacy system, and another interface that performs BDC or call transaction on movement 561 (or a copy of this movement) on SAP system

  • Legacy Timesheet System and Oracle Projects

    Dear All,
Is it possible to interface legacy timesheet system with Oracle Projects. The intention is to enter timesheets/hours thru the legacy system and calculation of revenue and invoice in Oracle Projects.
    1)Is this achievable, without issues?
2)How complex is this to achieve?
3)Any URL or documentation will be really helpful in this regard.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Anand

    Hi
There is no need for API.
You should write your own script to populate the interface table.
When you run the process PRC: Transaction Import, the system is validating the transactions. Only the valid transactions are imported as Expenditure Items. Exceptions remain in the interface, and you can review and correct those.
Review the deatils on Oracle Projects APIs, Client Extensions and Open Interface Reference.
Note, you should have set up a Transaction Source in Oracle Projects for your legacy Time system.

  • JMS and legacy systems

    Hi fellows,
I have to make a decision in my work. We are developing a system, that will be based in application server (JBoss) and it will comunicate with a legacy system throught messages queues. These "queues" are part of proprietary system.
Basically, when business method's EJB are calling, a messege is sent to the legacy system. And the next step is receive a response of that one.
I want use JMS to do that. I have a serie of doubts:
    1) May be various EJB sending messages concurrentily. How I know that EJB response message is the right one? How can I make sure that a response message is delivered to the right EJB?
    2) I must develop a tier in legacy system to receive JMS messages? I don't want to build a tier that receive a message from a queue, translate that to the legacy system and "vice-versa". I would like that is transparent to avoid work in the legacy system. How can I do that?
    Thank in advance.
    Forgive my english.
    Luciano Bohnert.

    1. look up the term correlation ID which is on the Message class, I believe. This ID can be used to match up with your original sender.
The senders must also be listening on another queue. So you need two queue as such.
    A->queue1->B->queue2->A
    2. MQ Series will support your system needs, but will exist on the Legacy system itself.
You could also use a receiving application which would then send your message via JNI to a C or C++ application on the Legacy system. JNI however is a very confusing many layered mess.

  • Migrating AUC from legacy system into SAP

    Hi,
I'm trying to migrate AUC into SAP from a legacy system and the fiscal year start from 2008. How do I post the acquisition value in AS91 if the AUC is acquired in 2007? using transaction type 900? The asset value date is posted in 01.01.2008 is I post the value through transaction tab. Is that correct? Pls advice.

  • Data load from Legacy system to BW Server through BAPI

Requirements: We have different kind of legacy systems and SAP BW server. We want to load all legacy system data into SAP BW server using BAPI. Before loading we have to validate all data. If there are bad data, data missing we have to let the legacy system user/ operator knows to fix the data into their system with detail explanation. When it is fixed, we have to load the data again.
Load Scenario:  We have two options to load data from legacy systems to BW Server.
    1.     We need to load data directly from legacy system to BW Server using BAPI program.
    2.     Legacy Systems data would be in workstations or flash drive as .txt (one line separated by comma) or .csv file. Need to load from .txt /.csv file to BW Server using BAPI program.
What we want in the BAPI program code?
It will Read / Retrieve data from text / csv file and will put into the Internal table. Internal table structure would be based on BAPI InfoObject structure.
Call BAPI InfoObject function module ‘BAPI_IOBJ_CREATE’ to create InfoObject, include all necessary / default components, do the error check, load the data and return the status.
Could some one help me with the sample code please? I am new in ABAP / BAPI coding.
Is there any other better idea to load data from legacy system to BW server? BTW we are using BW 3.10. Is there any better option with BI 7.0 to resolve the issue? I appreciate your help.

    my answers:
    1. this is a scendario for a data push into SAP BW. You can only use SOAP-Based Transfer of Data.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/fd/8012403dbedd5fe10000000a155106/frameset.htm
(here for BW 3.5, but you'll find similar for 7.0)
In this scenario you'll have an RFC dinamically created for every Infosource you need to transfer data.
    2. You can make a chain for each data load, so you can call the RFC "RSPC_API_CHAIN_START" to start the chain from external.
the second solution is more simply and available on every release.

  • Data Migration from Legacy system to ECC systems via ETL through SAP PI

    Hi All,
I wanted to know if we can migrate the data from Legacy systems to ECC systems via PI.
What I understand is there is ETL tool is used to extract the data from legacy system, and what client is looking to load that data via PI?
Can we do that ? I am concerned because this will involve mass data?
If I have to use PI , I see option of  PROXY / IDOC /FILE as receiver in ECC system (take the data from ETL)?
Can somebody has done this earlier , please share the approach.
    Thanks,
    Pushkar Patel

    Hi ,
I require few details from you.
    1. What ETL tool you are using, If Informatica, it already have PowerConnect to connect to SAP. So you can create source and Target Structure and also you can use RFC's to send data to R/3. Else, for other ETL tools, can you prepare RFC's or any other way to send data to R/3. let me know the tool.
    2. Does R/3 contains the master data tables? If yes, then try to use LSMW for Mass upload of data to tables.
If your client don't want to use either of these options please elaborate, what is the case.
