Question on MDM SP03 iViews for editing in EP

Hi all,
I have a problem using the edit function in a SP03 MDM iView.
I have a ResultSet + ItemDetail iView for my main table and a ResultSet + ItemDetail iView for the lookup table. But when I try and edit a record, I can only edit the attributes in the main table, not the ones from the lookup table.
How can I join those iViews to be able to edit ALL attributes of one record?

thanks for your help. But I still can't solve my problem.
The repository looks like this:
the main table is 'Customer' and one look-up field ist 'bank account', which refers to the 'Bank account' lookup table.
While I can see the defined display fields of Bank account (account number and bank code) in my 'customer' iView, I can not edit them.
I made a second ResultSet and a second ItemDetail iView for the bank information. But when I try to edit or create a customer, I can only change the attributes in the main table, not the display fields of the lookup table.
Yet, when I want to create / edit a customer, I also may have to update his account information.
I thought about adding these fieds as attributes to the main table, but I have lots of additional information about the bank in the lookup table (like address, IBAN ...) so I don't want those to clog up my main table.
Is there a way the event of clicking 'edit' or 'create' in the main table iView can be somehow forwarded to the lookup table iView as well?

Now I'm confused,what do you mean with create new data? Are users editing existing documents
(as if they go to a document example.xml > edit) or they are creating new documents (as if they go
on folder > new > forms)?
The problem is, in both cases a user would need read/write permissions.
The normal flow content (data) is created in KM is as follows:
1. user is assigned to a role
2. role contains KM Navigation iView
3. KM Navigation iView executes com.sap.km.cm.navigation component
4. user chooses New > Form UI command (edit_xml_forms)
5. edit_xml_forms UI command executes its code (com.sapportals.wcm.rendering.uicommand.cm.UIXMLFormsCreateCommand) and open xml edit for the user
6. user fill the form and click Save, form is created into folder
For what I understood so far, your requirement basically asks you to go directly to step 5, it is
possible to pass a URL that goes directly to step 5, the UI command button, but if you do that
you won't have a context, so chances that it will work are slim, since a context is required to
fill the parameters asked by the app (like folder, user, permissions, etc). Even though, in some cases you can
still pass the parameters via post in the URL but you must know which service/parameters the
app asks for it, also a URL is static...
That was the create scenario, I think it's more cons than pros, users would still be
able to bypass the URL iView created for that, I'd suggest evaluating again if it's really
a problem having users access cm to manage data

Standard MDM iView for Creation of Record

Hi All,
We have requirement to create a record in MDM through Portal.
Are there any standard iViews available in Portal content of MDM, which can create or update a record in MDM repository?
In the Portal content we have found following two SCA
BPMDMAPPLI04_0.SCA
BPMDMTECHN04_0.SCA
We have deployed them on the portal server, we are able to see search and itemdetail iViews for standard repository.
But we are not able to see iViews for creation of record.
In one of the document it has been given that SP 04 extended (imporved) functionality offers Data Entry and Maintenance (CURD operations) can also be performed.
But availability of the iViews not mentioned anywhere.
Anyone has already implemented such kind of functionality or scenario?

But I am not able to find out the SCA's which are mentioned in the above document for GP and CAF.
I tried searching on service market place also.
In portal Contenet of SP 04 i have found only two SCA's

I am not able to find following SCA files.
H2G_GuidedProcedures.sda
H2G_SourceCode.zip
Can tell me how do i get those SCA's?

Where do I find standard IViews for MDM

In MDM SP03 there are available a set of standard iViews for MDM. I am not able to find them on SDN. Can someone tell me where to find them?

if you upload the following files then you will get a tabstrip in the administrator login called MDM in which you can find the standard iviews.

1. LabVIEW is closed source and therefore the GPL does not apply to LabVIEW itself. It does make use of some external componanats that are under the GPL such as the kernel itself and the MESA library which is

3) There isn't one. Since there is no license manager for non-Windows versions NI can not make an evaluation version that can be activated through a license key. This would require a separate build with reduced functionality to release as evaluation version, and the sales for LabVIEW for Linux do not justify that extra expense.

In my page I have 2 iViews - an MDM ResultSet iView and a web dynpro iView. In MDM ResultSet iView I have created a custom EPCF record event. The web dynpro application includes an iframe the source of which is another MDM ResultSet iview. The web dynpro subscribes to the above event. When the event occurs it receives some value, which it processes and then triggers the getRecordById event using the following URL

Hi,
I created a MDM Resultset Iview in the portal. I selected the table and columns that are to be displayed. After creating the iview, when I see the preview, I am seeing the data in the resultset iview. I don't want the data to be seen. I need a blank resultset iview just with column names. How can we get this?

MDM Duplicate Reciognition for SP04

hi all
I have worked on MDM 5.5 sp03
and i know the way to find duplicates as specified in How-to Guide
Currently I am working on SP04 - Material Master
I want to know whether the procedure of finding duplicates is same as SP03 ( ie. Defining match rate , match group , match category and Importing the data as many times as no. of rules )?
or there is some better way provided in SP04?
My second question is
To set rules for material master, what are the fields (along with their priorities), that can be used to identify the duplicates?

SP04 introduced Matching & Merging in the MDM Data Manager (access it by clicking the "M" icon in the toolbar next to the Record (R), Hierarchy (H) buttons.)
The matching is flexible. At the "bottom level", you have transformations which allow you to manipulate data in a field. EG: if you were de-duplicating companies, you could strip out "(pty)" and "limited" and "ltd" from the company name.
At the "middle level", fields and/or transformations are added to a rule and you score the rule. So an exact match (say both fields match) could score 50 points, but a partial match (only 1 field matches) could score 25 points.
At the "top level", rules are added to strategies and a final scoring is applied (the sum of the individual rules added to the strategy is the maximum that a strategy can score.)
You then execute the strategy against all / some of the records and a matching score and level (high / low) are returned. Selecting a record will display the other records that it has matched and you can select to add them to a merging process.
As for identifying duplicates, basic matching transformations, rules and strategies are provided with the new repositories. And of course you have the option to develop your own matching rules. Matching is only available on your main table.
I'd suggest playing around with it a bit to get a feel for how it works before working on live data

I am looking to have all my files in one place as i am hopelessly disorganised. I know the online clouds are a good solution (used Dropbox at work and uni for 3 years) however i am wanting to create my own 'dropbox/icloud' at home. So whenever i get back home with my laptop, any work i have been working on whilst out that day is updated to the timecapsule, and then ultimately as i turn on the other devices, they update to those newer versions of the files. Please tell me that the 3TB time capsule i have can do this, otherwise it feels rather overpriced as a wireless storage device?
Another note (to those in the know) If i am to be working on large files (REVIT/SOLIDWORKS/KEYSHOT/CREO/AUTOCAD) - is the timecapsule connection good enough to support editing and updating these files?
I know i may be asking a question that many have before, but as a bit of a technical novice I wanted a clear-cut answer to my specific circumstances. Your help is greatly appreciated.
(*can i use this WD hard-drive that is connected to the Time Capsule as a back up? so that the time machine back-ups/any back ups are also backed up onto this one? can the WD be a backup for the TC?)

Some important questions on MDM functionality

Hello All,
I have some basic/imp questions to be understood on MDM 7.1 for a data consolidation project.
1) When importing records in import manager, some of the records are failed with this error message "Import failed. Unable to find value map index". When checked the records in excel source, those records are having one or two fields carrying some square like char, ? and some non readable char (chinese, japanese). SAP is the source and SAP CRM has those characters successfully maintained in the system but MDM has some issue. How do we tackle these in MDM to successfully import those records?
2) How do we archive a repository to create a new one which needs to have empty records in main table but need to carry look up table records?
3) There are some records attached to workflow and when deleted those records from data manager, system throwing error "attached to workflow". Can anyone help me how to remove this attachment and delete those records?
4) The max number of records which can be imported at one shot in import manager is 100K? What happens when we exceed this records let's say 200K? Does the process go infinite loop? Is there a way out to import more than 100K records at one shot?
5) What are the different types of data consolidation projects MDM Gurus encounter? Elaborate please.
6) How many clients use Hierarchy, taxonomy, family tables for repository design? Is it very common or rare? And what would be some of the reference use cases (articles) I could find in sdn blogs for these?
Thx and appreciate for responding to these and also please let me know if any additional articles around MDM which are very popular and must see for a MDM consultant.

Thats a known issue in MDM 5.5 but i am not sure about the current 7.1 SP08 release it might by fixed too, MDM Import manager does not support some special characters,only solution is to identify those records which has special characters in excel and exclude them from the load, may by unmapping the field which has special characters and load the other fields data using the map. and then login to Data manager and copy the text to the corresponding record manually.

We can not create a repository from an archive with out main table data automatically. you need to clean the main table manually or by using an import map we can delete the data.

Click on workflows tab in data manager and you can find in which workflow the record is and check the history by right clicking on the record. if you have rights to stop the workflow do that , or else login with the workflow owner and stop the workflow so that record will come out of the workflow and will be able to be delete that record.

Importing 100K data in one shot is not a good idea, and the system will go in infinte loop. you need to split the source files in to multiple chunks. chunk size in your system will be set in MDS.INI file, talk to your MDM Basis guy he will help you in getting details of those..
5) What are the different types of data consolidation projects MDM Gurus encounter? Elaborate please.
Let us know which kind of consolidation project you are working in, Tricks will be based on the particular requirement
6) How many clients use Hierarchy, taxonomy, family tables for repository design? Is it very common or rare? And what would be some of the reference use cases (articles) I could find in sdn blogs for these?
Again for this question it will be based on the requirements... i am sure you will be able to find blogs how to use hierarchies,taxanomies and family tables but not the client names...

lets say i am doing a program similiar to autocad
and i need to open the file for edit in my java program
the file format is my own custom format, not autocad format
my question is that does it more sense to create a clone of the copy to edit
or edit the opened file directly...

Create a clone. If something goes wrong, the user can always revert to the original file.
(On the other hand, this may also depend on what you are really doing to "edit the file". I suspect that very fiew user applications actually make changes directly into a source file.)

Best practices for Edit Proxies in Final Cut Server?

We just bought Final Cut Server, and for the most part are pretty happy with the product. We are a small production facility, and primarily work with DVCPro HD footage at 720P. One feature we'd like to use would be the edit proxies feature in FCS, but they don't seem to be working for us.
_Hosting Computer_
We're using a mac mini server with snow leopard server and final cut server 1.5.
Problem
Whenever we specify in the Administrator Pane of FCS, Under Preferences and Analyze, we'd like to use a custom transcode setting for the edit proxies, keeping Frame Size, TC, and Frame rate the same, but changing the codec to h264 least quality, the effects are a different compression than expected. We tested out the compression settings using Compressor on the server, and we get the desired results:
Input: DVCPro HD 720P Quicktime 960X720 (1248 x 702) 23.98 fps
Output: H264 Quicktime 960X720 (1248 x 702) 23.98 fps
Also did the same outputs using Apple Prorez, Photo Jpeg and got the following outputs:
Output: Apple Prorez Quicktime 960X720 (1248 x 702) 23.98 fps
Output: Photo Jpeg Quicktime 960X720 (1248 x 702) 23.98 fps
(We also made new transcode settings for these compressor settings and we not able to control the compressions through FCS with these settings as well. Our target codec is H264.)
After connecting the new compression settings on the Mac Mini Server to a new transcode setting in the FCS Admin Pane, we restarted the Java Client, logged in to FCS as an FCSadmin, opened the Admin Pane, and under preferences/analyze change the edit proxy setting to the New H264 setting that worked perfectly when using Compressor. After uploading a final cut project, with one associated media file (DVCPro HD 720P Quicktime 960X720 (1248 x 702) 23.98 fps), the resulting edit proxy did not match the specification: 384 x 216, 23.98fps, TC matches source.
Also did not dynamically connect when checking out the project from FCS and selecting edit proxies and keep media with project and saving to the desktop.
Question 1:
Does anyone have any best practice transcode setting(s) to create for DVCPro HD 720P using edit proxies that dynamically connect and are smaller size than the original? H264? Photo Jpeg?
Question 2:
Why is Final Cut Server's Compressor giving a different output, when the same settings work well with just Compressor?
Question 3:
Does H264 work in creating dynamically linking edit proxies (ie, no need to reconnect)?
I can imagine this information to be very useful to the community, so any input or solutions will be greatly appreciated.

H.264 is a puzzling choice of codec for edit proxies. H.264 is not an edit-friendly codec since it is a complex long-GOP structure and will require a ton of rendering just to play back the timeline. ProRES 422 Proxy would be a much better choice for editing. I'm afraid I can't account for the differences between Compressor and FCServer in this case, but my gut tells me the non-I-frame codec you are trying to use for edit proxies might have something to do with it. Maybe for an edit-proxy workflow to operate properly on the server-side the codec must be I-frame? Is there any reason you do not want to use ProRES 422 Proxy? They are about 1/3 the footprint of 720p24 DVCPRO-HD, which is already very efficient. For that frame rate and frame size they would be roughly half the heft of good ol' DV25.
So my answer to all three questions would be to try ProRES 422 Proxy for your edit proxies and see if everything lines up.

What is best type of 'new' video camera to buy for editing with PE 10?

I currently own two Sony miniDV camcorders (models DCR-HC28 and HC40) and was doing fine in Premiere Elements and recently upgraded to version 10. I was in the process of using the HC40 cam as a 'pass-through' device to digitize some old VHS tapes, and it worked well for copying from VHS to miniDV tape. Then, I could capture in Premiere Elements and edit, etc. (It would never work to pass all the way through to capture in PE in one step using Firewire). Now, the HC40 camera has locked up on me halfway through my box of VHS tapes, and is stuck showing the Time/Date screen and the touch screen seems to be disabled. What to do?
There do exist plenty of used DCR-HC40 and 52s (which also support pass-through) on Amazon for sale in the $200 range, and that is one option. I also went to Best Buys this week and looked at all the new Sony video cameras, and they fell into basically two series: the DCR-SX series, which record in standard definition onto flash memory (SD cards), and the more expensive HDR-CX series, which record in Hi Definition (also on SD cards) but also, I was told, can record in standard definition. The miniDV camcorders are no more, apparently. I am not so enamored of HD recording that I would go whole hog for it, as I am happy with the results I have been getting with my miniDV cameras once burned to DVD or converted to MPEG or MP4 for playing on my iPhone, etc. Plus, HD takes up so much more memory and space on the hard drive compared to standard def files.
I called Sony tech services today to find out that none of the new cameras support the pass-through function for digitizing from old VHS cassettes, so I am looking at buying a VHS-digitizing device as recommended here on the forum such as the ADS Pyro AV Link or Grass Valley ADVC110. Since I would rather spend that money on a new video camera instead of merely the AV link device which I will have no use for once the tapes are digitized, my question comes back to the cameras. Which of the new cameras will be most ideal for editing in PE10 going forward, or is it best to stick with miniDV for now?
Steve G has always seemed to point out that miniDV tape and the ensuing AVI files are the best for PE to work with. Sony told me today that even the SD cameras such as the DCR-SX65SD ($219) now record onto the SD cards in MPEG2 format, and that AVI is a thing of the past that died with the miniDV tapes. I assume MPEG2 still comes out as different clips that one assembles on the Timeline in PE10? One probably could convert the MPEG2 files to AVI, but would that give the same quality as an original AVI file from a miniDV tape? And if MPEG2 is the new standard going forward, do the resulting videos made with PE10 have the same quality as those made from 'native' AVI files? I will buy a used DCR-HC40 miniDV camera if the end result is better than those to be obtained with the brand new DCR or HDR series cameras now available in stores. But if the quality is the same, I could perhaps opt for one such as the HDR-CX 130HD ($349) which also records in SD in case some years from now I decide I really DO want to switch to HD formats.
Any advice on choice/use of the newer cameras and their default formats such as MPEG2 is welcome, in relation to PE10 editing and output capabilities.

Thanks much for your replies. I plan to get my DCR-HC40 miniDV camera fixed so I can use it for pass-through digitizing from VHS tapes. I also recently bought one of the Dazzle Video Creator Platinum capture units ($84 at Best Buys) just to try it, and actually got pretty good results in digitizing a VHS-C tape using a VHS-C to VHS adapter unit to play it in our VCR, and then using the Pinnacle Studio HD (version 15) that came with the Dazzle unit to import and digitize through the Dazzle unit.
The Dazzle unit would not show up in Premiere Elements 10 as an option to capture from, but did in Pinnacle Studio 15.   I used our Sony VAIO with i7 processor and Pinnacle captured the one hour, twenty-five minute- long VHS-C tape to a single 18GB .AVI clip which I then was able to bring into Premiere Elements 10 and use for output in various formats.
When using a less powerful laptop initially, the digitizing failed, with 319 dropped frames in the first 5 minutes.. So it takes a more powerful computer to work with a capture unit like Dazzle, apparently.
I will eventually be shopping around for a new, AVCHD format video camera as well based on your recommendations, but the current group of Sonys in this category, such as the HDR-CX130HD ($349) which record video onto SD cards, are getting bad reviews from CNET, claiming they have poor quality HD and other issues. So for the forseeable future I will be sticking with miniDV using my Sony DCR-HC28 and HC40 camcorders.
