Question on netweaver mobile option

Hello friends
Right now we are using XI integration between our product and SAP tables.
Our sales team want to use the demo of our product while they are travelling which uses this XI integration.
I have been reading about SAP x Apps Mobile option.
Does this support the XI scenarios also?
In other words, how different is this netweaver mobile option when compared to the regular XI scenarios that we have configured? Does using this mobile option requires any configuration changes?
Your response will be highly appreciated.
Thanks
Ram

Hi Ram !!
SAP xApps Mobile / Mobile Infrastructure, as far as I know, is for offline connections. It requires to install a client in the mobile devices to work.
XI is used to integrate SAP and non-SAP systems, that means that you could use XI to expose SAP data and develop your own front-end as a client. If this client has for example a web interface, then if your mobile device has an internet browser, you could access that client from there.
e.g.
Mobile device (with browser/online connection) -> ASP.NET application -> HTTP/SOAP -> XI -> RFC -> SAP
Instead of an ASP.NET application you could develop a Mobile WebDynpro JAVA application (that is, J2EE instead of .NET, but device detection for proper rendering of UI) for the same.
It all depends if your mobile application is online or offline. If it is offline and all it access is SAP data, then you just can do it with SAP MI, if it is for online (SAP or non-SAP data), any combination can work, you also can use XI as a broker between SAP and your mobile platform.
Hope it helps.

Matias

  • Navigation Error in NetWeaver Mobile 7.1

    Hi all,
I´ve a question regarding NetWeaver Mobile 7.1 Navigation.
I have an application with 2 views. Now I want to navigate from the start-view to the second-view.
The steps which I´ve done are the same as in a normal webdynpro application:
create an outbound plug for the first view.
create an inbound plug for the second view.
connect the outbound plug with the inbound plug via link.
    create a button.
create an action which fires the outbound plug.
set the action for the button.
When I test the navigation a get the following error:
    http://img227.imageshack.us/my.php?image=navigationerrorna0.png
I hope somebody can help me with this issue.
    Thanks and regards,
    Michael

    Hi Siva,
I tested the navigation as you described.
Unfortunately I get the same error message as before.
    Just for information:
I use the NetWeaver Developer Studio 7.1 SP3 Trial with Trial NetWeaver Mobile Plugins.
I thought this could be a reason, but my colleague use the same and the navigation works.
Are there special .jar files or something else which is needed for the navigation ?
I would be appreciate for every helpful answer.
    Thanks and regards,
    Michael

  • Choosing unicode and non-unicode option in SAP Netweaver Mobile 7.1

    Hi folks,
do we have the option of choosing a unicode or non-unicode format on installing SAP Netweaver mobile 7.1?
Can we communicate MI unicode system with non-unicode backend?
Let me know on where i can find more info related to this
    Regards,

    Hi Ankur,
you can also directly navigate to the mobile administrator using the web browser. The url is as follows:
    http://host:port/sap/bc/webdynpro/sap/sdoe_administration?sap-language=EN
Host and port you have to adjust to your settings. These are the same settings you are using during synchronization on a client device.

  • Question about SAP Gateway to Netweaver Mobile 1.1

    Hi Gurus.
I am trying to implement SAP Gateway to Netweaver Mobile 1.1 (Sales Scenario) for the first time.
I have read the Master Guide and the Configuration Guide... but I still don't get if the Sales Applications for Hand Held have to be developed from scratch or if they come in the add-on.
Could you please point me to the light?
    thank you.
    David.

    If I were to buy
some CDs or if I decided to rip another of my DVDs
and put it on my iPod, could I use iTunes to do that
without updating to 1.1 or is it a catch 22?
There is ONLY ONE reason to have to update your iPod to 1.1 and that's to use Apple's new FM radio. 1.1 is not required for anything else. Everything else works fine, in iTunes and otherwise.
My iPod works fine right now and I just want to be
able to put more songs and movies on it using iTunes
without going to the 1.1 FW.
If you want your iPod to keep working, stay away from 1.1. You have been warned!
    I'm scared to even
synch my iPod right now after reading the horror

Don't be so silly. If you're running 1.0, just get on and enjoy your fully functioning, happy, smiley, healthy iPod.

  • MAM development on SAP NetWeaver Mobile 7.1?

    Hello world
I did notice that SAP has released SAP NetWeaver Mobile 7.1. I was of course very curious if this would (finally) make MAM25 developments possible in the new SAP NetWeaver (Mobile ) Developer Studio 7.1, because the old SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio 7.0 is based on Eclipse 2.X while the new one is based on Eclipse 3.3 (which has some advantages compared to Eclipse 2.X).
So I did download SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio 7.1 and SAP NetWeaver Mobile 7.1, and installed both of them on my system. I was positively surprised when I noticed a Mobile Infrastructure perspective. So I did download our customized MAM25 source code from the CVS server and I tried to let it compile and run on SAP NetWeaver Mobile Developer Studio 7.1.
Compiling was not a problem: after including some required JAR files, the code did compile successfully, however when trying to export the project, it seemed that the JSP files were not compiled, however I did put the tick mark at the Add JSP as compiled classes option. In my NetWeaver Developer, a folder $jsp was created, but with nothing inside. And in the generated WAR-file, I couldn't find any compiled JSP file as well...
In the 7.0 version, a file called mam25.jar was created and putted into the lib folder in the war archive file, which contained all the class files. This file was not created with version 7.1.
When trying to run the MAM from within NetWeaver Mobile Developer Studio 7.1, I did get the following exception when launching:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sap/tc/mobile/cfs/startup/Startup
    Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.sap.tc.mobile.cfs.startup.Startup
Is there anyone who can tell me whether or not SAP NetWeaver Mobile Developer studio 7.1 is able to compile, generate and run the MAM25 source? If not, why is there a perspective Mobile Infrastructure included?
If it is compatible, does anyone have an idea why it didn't work with me?
    Thanks for your help!
    Best regards,
    Diederik

    Hi all,
First of all, thanks for all the information!
I think there is a little misunderstanding, or maybe I am wrong
SAP NetWeaver is the web-application you can use to analyze, administrate, etc... your mobile applications?
I am actually talking about the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio 7.1, which is in fact just an extended Eclipse environment. There is some kind of mobile update pack which you can find here: [SAP NetWeaver Mobile 7.1 SP3|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/c0846cb5-59ec-2a10-46a2-cff9cd9b8fc3]
My question was if you can maintain and develop in JAVA your MAM25 application with this version of the Netweaver Developer Studio? I did notice a perspective Mobile Infrastructure as in version 7.0, and I can compile the JAVA code, but I can't run the application (see error in original posting) and it seems that no JAVA files are generated from the JSP files.
I guess it is just a matter of making the plugins compatible for Eclipse 3.X, because the plugin system of Eclipse 2.X is not compatible with the plugin system of Eclipse 3.X. But because of the Mobile Infrastructure perspective that I did notice, I was thinking that this was done. But this seems not to be the case, or I did do something wrong...
So the only question is: can I use SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio 7.1 (aka Eclipse 3.X) to develop in JAVA the MAM25 application?
    Thanks for the help!
    Best regards,
    Diederik

    Hi,
SAP Netweaver mobile 7.1 is using the same DVDs as SAP Netweaver PI 7.1. Only difference is that you choose the option for Mobile System when starting the installation in SAPinst.
Everything is included in the installation and no separate installation is required.

  • SAP NetWeaver Mobile 7.1

    Hi All,
My name is Malinda and im totally new to SAP's Mobile Side. What i want to know is how or what do you need for to setup and run SAP Netweaver Mobile 7.1?, where does the Data Orchestration Engine & Mobile Administrator come? are these components of Netweaver AS? and what is the composition environment and Netweaver developer studio is needed for. I just need a good clarification because im to implement this for my company. Thank You
    Malinda Wellawa

    Hi Malinda,
the whole Netweaver Mobile 7.1 comes as its own software package. It is a real product which sits on top of other components (like Netweaver CE for the mobile designtime or the AS ABAP for the DOE).
In order to install Netweaver Mobile there are basically two options. The right one depends on your case:
    - You can download the Netweaver Mobile 7.1 trial version from sdn. It contains the designtime and client runtime components. But it excludes the DOE in order to keep the setup for trial simple. It is available here (including a set of documentation):
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/c0846cb5-59ec-2a10-46a2-cff9cd9b8fc3
    - In order to get the DOE as well, you have to officially register for the Netweaver Mobile 7.1 Ramp-Up. Once you have been accepted as a Ramp-Up customer, you can download the software packages from the service marketplace. Information about the Ramp-Up you can find here:
    https://websmp201.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000695873&
If you decide to go for Ramp-Up, you have to create an online scoping:
    https://websmp204.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000664532
Hope these answers are helpfull for you.

  • Data Volume handling in SAP Netweaver Mobile 7.1

    Hi,
I wanted to know what is the kind of data volume a device which has netweaver mobile can handle. Assuming we have Intermec cn 50 device what could be threshold value for the data that the device hold after it has consumed memory for the Mobile Client to work.

  • Mobile devices which support SAP Netweaver Mobile 7.1

    Hi all,
I would like to know what are all the mobile devices which would support application made of Netweaver Mobile.
According to my knowledge the following devices support, sorry PDA's support:
    PPC 2003
    PPC 2005
    Mobile 6.0
My question is will normal mobile phones like Nokia or Sony ericsson will or will not support applications based on Netweaver Mobile.
If not why? any specific reasons.
My client is asking me these all Questions.
    Kindly help me here.
    Thanks.

    Hi Rahul,
well, I understand the reason for your question, but I think it is not that easy.
Sure, there are other JVM available for Mobile devices. Take J9 from IBM for example. But the problem is: every vendort has his own implementation, toolset, supports Swing or not,.... Well, sometimes it is just a small thing that is not working in one JVM that works fine on the other one and MI fails. With MI7.1 it gets a little more problematic. Up to version 7.0 MI supported Creme 3.xx based on JRE1.1.8. Starting with MI7.1 SAP supports the latest creme version that is compatible to JRE1.4. There are only a few JVM outside for the PDA supporting JRE1.4 and all this comes to the single sentence at the end:
SAP supports only Creme - because it is only tested with creme.
The min requirement is in the first place to be able to run Creme on the device. If this is ok, you should have 128MB RAM - I have not done any tests with MI7.1 on devices with less memory, but I got some issues with 7.0 MI and 64MB RAM.
Well, at the end this is it to run MI occasionally connected.
But if you need to run an App on the PDA and you do not need data storeage on the device cause you will be always online when you use the app - try WebDynproMobile. This runs in the browser, runs on the Mobile phone by my knowledge and could help you perhaps. If you are not always online and so you need data on the device, I think you need to go with PDAs.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Oliver

  • Netweaver Mobile 7.1 Data Orchestration Engine and 3rd party apps...

    Folks,
I have a third party mobile app that just won't go away (pun intended).
I will have a XMAM AND a 3rd Party App on 1 mobile device x's 1000's of devices.
Can I use Netweaver 7.1 DOE to synchronize my devices 3rd party app? I will have to develop new Business Objects of course.
    CP

    Hi Christopher,
you can use Netweaver Mobile 7.1 to download and deploy so-called mobile components. These mobile components will be always installed into the NW client container. In principle it is possible to create "client installers" which allows you writing a xml script containing installation commands. But as far as I know these commands are restricted to things like copying, deleting, file modification etc. Instaling a CAB-file for example will not be possible. And I guess this is what you are looking for, right?
In case, you want to deploy 3rd party apps written for Netweaver Mobile 7.1, deployment is definitely possible. You will create your app as mobile components containing business logic, data objects and UI in the designtime. These components you can remotely deploy through the DOE.
I hope this answer is helpfull for you. In case you have more questions, let me know.
    Regards,
    Stefan

  • NetWeaver Mobile 7.1 Performance

We are evaluating NetWeaver Mobile 7.1 which uses Web Dynpro as option to develop an application which will run in an "occasionally connected mode".
The application will initially run on laptops hence will have its own web server runtime (Mobile client) and database (probably MaxDB).
Web Dynpro is known to have performance issues under certain conditions. This application will need to run in near real-time (its going to record time) in the offline mode and hence we are very concerned about using this technology.
How good can Web Dynpro perform when accessing local data?
Has anyone used it so far in such a scenario as it is a recent release? Can you share performance figures, if available?
Any experiences or suggestions you can share are welcome.

    Hello,
The webdynpro lient on laptop does not run on any tomcat server. In fact, you are not running the real dynpro implementation that runs on portal for example. You are creating the application in the webdynpro environment (as for the PDA UI) and run it in a new mobile client that is not using tomcat.
Performance wise, webdynpro is only used for the UI display, so anything that runs in the background will be as fast as a java application can be.
MaxDB is also industrial strength and proved to be really fast compared to previous options on MI (DB2e).
Overall, the whole new client layer is know to be faster than the previous iteration... and the middleware is much much faster with replication time to the roof.
Hopes this gives you a good starting point,
    Julien.
