Questions on LDAP w.r.t XML Publisher 5.6.2
Hi all,
I have 2 questions on LDAP integration w.r.t XML P 5.6.2
1) Is OID the only supported LDAP repository? I tried to set up a Iplanet directory server against XMLP, but could not. Did I miss something, or it is not supported?
Other than OID, any other LDAP supported?
2) Suppose, my use-case is: I want to show some values from the database, and also in the same report, print out the user attributes from the LDAP (like email id of the user, for example) who fired the report, then is this possible?

Ok. Question 1 - I have answered myself. I could not set up SunONE Directory server against XMLP :-(
But I could set up against openldap. :-)
I plan to contribute to the blog in 2/3 days time on how this can be done.
But I still need some help on the question 2. How can I create a report which has all the data from both the backend database, and well as from the LDAP repository. For example, report like:
Report Fired By:
EMAIL id:
Mobile:
(data1, data2...)
where data1, data2 comes from the database, and email id, mobile from the LDAP.

XML Publisher Report in EBS without Standard Oracle Report
Hi folks ,
i have some questions.
Can I create a XML Publisher Report for the EBS without a Standard Oracle Report in EBS.
So that I can build up the files with the Desktop Publisher, create Data Definition / Template with Upload / Create the executable und concurrent and than only start the new program in EBS ?
I have the situation that I can start my program with the template in the background but ít is searching for the report on the file system.

can i do it only with the xml Publisher , because when i tried it in the past and get all the staff like Template / DD / CP up and running and started the CR i get an error from the system that he is missing a report directly in the file system... so he searched for the report himself on system like a standard 6i Report. But the template and the dd is stored in the db. So my question again, can I use the XML Puplisher without a Standard Report or can i use a dummy file only for checking and after that he use my template / dd.

you need only to set the jdbc connection for a user that got the demo tables (the builtin HR user with all the tables of the demo application works super).

Basic XML Publisher Question: How to access tags in the higher levels?

We have a basic question in XML Publisher.
We have a xml hierarchy like below:

We need to create a report like below:
CATALOG_NAME CD_TITLE CD_ARTISTCATALOG 1 TITLE1 ARTIST1
CATALOG 1 TITLE2 ARTIST2
CATALOG 2 TITLE3 ARTIST3
CATALOG 2 TITLE4 ARTIST4
So we have to loop at the level of <CD> using for-each CD. But when we are inside this loop, we cannot access the value of CAT_NAME which is at a higher level.
How can we solve this?
Right now, we are using the work-around of set_variable and get_Variable. We are setting the value of CAT_NAME inside an outer loop, and using it inside the inner loop using get_variable.
Is this the proper way to do this or are there better ways to do this? We are running into troubles when the data is inside tables.you can use

1. What could be functionality of Delivery manager of XMLP?
2. How could process Delivery manager an user request?
3. Delivery manager is full of Java API’s that means apps developer must know java. Am I correct? If it is Yes, what are java concepts need know so that developer can do his job successfully?
4. What could be sub-template concept in XMLP? Please give one practical scenario.
5. One scenario: I want generate group of invoices in PDF format and each invoice must generate in fresh page.
XML Input to Template: Report output (output format in XML)
Input parameters: Customer or Print date (i.e. all invoices of specified customer should populate)
I could not able to generate each invoice in fresh page. Is it possible through XMLP?
6. XSL: is language and used for transformation i.e. one form document to another form document (xml =>XHTML) am I correct?
7. When do we go for XSL implementation in XMLP? Please provide example.
8. Where do we write XSL code in template? Assume template I am using RTF form field method.

The RTF used English language characters and want to register for English – USA
My RTF template works fine in preview mode in Word. I go to upload it via XML Publisher Adminstator and I get a screen that just says "You have encountered an unexpected error. Please contact the System Administrator for assistance."
What? The only option is Log out. Is there a way to validate my template to know what could possibly be wrong with it?
Please let me know if any other information require about RTF template.

Question? XML Publisher Desktop
Hi Folks,
I'm exploring this option for my organization and I have a question or two.
I have remote users logging in to develop their reports. Is the XML Publisher Desktop required to build their reports or is it only a nice to have? If they're sufficiently good at SQL and XML can they bypass this application?
If not, does the XML Publisher Desktop cost anything to install on these remote machines?

They do not need the XMLP desktop, they can either build templates in MSWord or handcode the XSL directly. The tools do not cost any extra once you have licensed XMLP.

Questions on XML Publisher/Site Level Configuration
We are using BI Publisher 5.6.3 in EBS 11i. I am looking for guidance on setting the FO Processing properties.
On the Administration/Configuration Tab there are no values visible for a number of the FO Processing properties including:
Use XML Publisher's XSLT processor
Enable Scalable feature of XSLT processor
Enable XSLT runtime optimization
Also, there are no entries in xdo_config_values table. Does this mean that site values are set to default? And if so, are these the correct values for the defaults?

Enable Scalable feature of XSLT processor - FALSE
Enable XSLT runtime optimization - TRUE
If these are in fact the defaults, I have read in numerous threads that setting 'Enable Scalable feature of XSLT processor' to TRUE can help with performance. Does this only work if the XML is large, or will it also help if you have very complex .rtf templates (multiple levels of dynamic grouping, pagebreaks, nested tables, sums, etc.)? If the complexity is in the .rtf template itself, is it best to set this property 'Enable Scalable feature of XSLT processor' at the template level? When would it be best to set at the site level? At the data definition level?
I've tried changing this property on a few templates and the outcome doesn't seem predictable. In some cases it seems to improve performance and in other cases there is a decrease in performance. I can't seem to pinpoint why it works in some cases and not others.
Any additional information would be appreciated.

BI publisher does have the option of showing a running total in PDF format usign a RTF template. If you look up the advanced rtf samples provided with the BI publisher plugin there is one example to show running totals, with the previous page total at the top.
you can find this located on your PC where the Word Plugin is installed. C:\Program Files (x86)\Oracle\BI Publisher\BI Publisher Desktop\samples\RTF templates
replace C:\ with the drive leeter of the drive where your desktop plugin is installed

Oracle XML Publisher Java API's showing arabic characters as question marks

I have created a custom xml publisher report. All the setups in xdo.cfg and the fonts have been installed. When i run the report as concurrent program using the XDODTEXE as the executable this report executes fine displaying the arabic characters in the PDF output.
I have integrated this xml report to a OAF page where am getting the output of the arabic characters as ???????
Following is the java code i have used to generate the blob for the xml publisher report.

AnoopOn a related note, I am seeing a couple of different types of 'incorrect' characters based on different NLS_LANG settings.
If it is set to AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8, I get characters like this:

If it is set to ARABIC_UNITED ARAB EMIRATES.AR8MSWIN1256, I get characters like this:
ÑÞã ÇáãæÙÝ
Do any of you know what these characters are?

Want to know if XML Publisher is supported to work with Oracle Lite?
Secondly wanted to know if a customer already has license for IDS 10g and IAS 10g should they by separate license to use XML Publisher?

Im just trying to get OLite running on my laptop to confirm but looking at the documentation its has a jdbc connection therefore XMLP can connect to it :o)

I have created report using XML Publisher Report Bursting. The output-type of the report is pdf..

But if I change the format to xls it's showing error and the report is not getting created.

Can any one help me how to get the report in excel format?

XML Publisher report - Number translation in Italian
While i am Doing an XMl publisher report in english and Italian Languages i am facing an issue with the Dot translation.
For eg: 4.5 is translated to 4,5 in Italian.This creates a problem for me when i am doing summary on this column.So how should i handle in case italian.better to ask this question in the BI (XML) Publisher Forum: BI Publisher

Turkish Character and Check Box "?" Problem in XML Publisher
In aplication and XML Publisher I must use Turkish Characters e.g. 'ş','ı','ğ','ç','ö' and check boxes. In html preview there is no problem, I can see all of them correctly. Hovewer in PDF preview in XML Publisher and also PDF output in Oracle Application all these Turkish Characters and Check Boxes looks like question mark (?). How can I solve this problem ?

Related to Special Italian characters, when I try with "Courier New" font with static data,the XML Preview display those characters.But when those chars come from XML source file,they get vanished.I tried two cases:
Case1 ) IN EBS,I have attached courbi.ttf(font file) to the template manager(followed as per instructions in Font mapping section in User Guide).
When I try running the report ,its getting completed with Warning.
Case 2) I have also modified xdo.cfg ( as per Doc ID:400755.1 www.metalink.oracle.com)-
In both cases ,I am not acheving the desired results.
Please let me know where I am going wrong.

Call an sql insert statement in xml publisher
Hi to all,
i've a question as regard xml publisher.
Sorry but i don't have a lot of time to look around.
This features is quite important and probably would determine if we will use this
product or not.
Is possible to call an sql statement when the output is generated?
example: a user call a report with some par to filter the output (some select list / text, ecc..)
Or generally can i call use a pl/sql block instead of pl/sql query to populate and at
the same time to write other data to keep track of the printing / generation of the
documents X user?
Otherwise, is xml publisher writing this info in some system table of xml publ?
Note: i use most of all pl/sql and htmldb and i don't want to use other programming languages until this app is finished.

I seem to remember from other threads that you are assessing the enterprise edition of XMLP right?
If you use the data templates to define how the data should be extracted then you can call a plsql pkg after the fetch to update/insert to your hearts content.
Otherwise you could use the APIs instead of the UI to do the same or even build an extension to the RTF templates to make the sql call ... we do not document this at the moment but its possible.

I need to confirm that somebody here did a normal invoice using XML Publisher before. what I mean by normal invoice is that
customer: --- Date -----
Item | quantity | price | amount
item1 | 5 | 10 | 50
item2 | 1 | 100 | 100
Total 150
one hundred fifty dollars
no matter how many items, the total should come at the end of the invoice and if the number of items cant fit in one page this totals will be only in the last page of the invoice
my question is there anyone did this before. we used to do it using anchoring in report builder but I am unable to find similar thing here in XML Publisher
this will affect my company decision of going to this technology or not because not only invoice, we have statement of account that have aging need to be in the same way, and some other reportsPart of the fun is figuring it out on your own.
Anyhow, we have used a fixed number of lines per page, which works if you prevent lines from wrapping. To do the latter:
