Questions on LOV

I have two questions on LOV.
1. How to sort the elements in an LOV? I could not find any property in Designer to specify the order.
2. How do I prepopulate the "Find" field of an LOV programmatically?
Please help!

Hi Scott, I just found your posting PopupKey's do not hold value!
which indicates that a second apex_item is used to store the display (if I am understanding properly).
The problem I have then, is that I have three collections on my page. There are a total of 50 items (10 from the first collection, 20 from each of the 2nd, 3rd collection). Does this mean that I am out of luck? thanks

  • Question concerning LOVs

    How can I get an LOV to do an automatic execute_query when an item is selected while the form is in query mode?

    There is a trigger called KEY-lISTVAL in this write code to show the lov attached to the item
    eg
    Declare
    a boolean;
    Begin
    a := show_lov('lov1');
    Execute_Query(No_Validate);
    End;
    This should solve ur problem.

  • Question About LOV

    HI
    I created Select list item with a specific LOV, i want to change "Null Text" attribute depending in condition was occurred, i didn't want fixed value
    Are there solution to this problem
    Thanks

    Hi,
    You can do this by building the select list up with XML tags. You need to create an on demand application process (called getTran in this instance) like
    DECLARE
      l_counter  NUMBER;
      l_o_name   VARCHAR2(2000);
    BEGIN
      OWA_UTIL.mime_header('text/xml', FALSE);
      HTP.p('Cache-Control: no-cache');
      HTP.p('Pragma: no-cache');
      OWA_UTIL.http_header_close;
      HTP.prn('<select>');
      FOR rec IN (SELECT display_value,
                                            return_value
                          FROM    a_table
                         WHERE  something = :TEMPORARY_ITEM
                        ORDER BY 1)
      LOOP
        HTP.prn('<option value="' || rec.display_value|| '">' || rec.return_value || '</option>');
      END LOOP;
      HTP.prn('</select>');
    END;You don't have to select from a table you could just select with a case statement from dual if you want.
    Then you need javascript functions in the page html header like this (courtesy of Carl Backstrom):
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    function get_AJAX_SELECT_XML(pThis,pSelect){
         var l_Return = null;
         var l_Select = $x(pSelect);
         var get = new htmldb_Get(null,$x('pFlowId').value,'APPLICATION_PROCESS=getTran',0);
    get.add('TEMPORARY_ITEM',pThis.value);
         gReturn = get.get('XML');
         if(gReturn && l_Select){
             var l_Count = gReturn.getElementsByTagName("option").length;
             l_Select.length = 0;
             for(var i=0;i<l_Count;i++){
                 var l_Opt_Xml = gReturn.getElementsByTagName("option");
    appendToSelect(l_Select, l_Opt_Xml.getAttribute('value'), l_Opt_Xml.firstChild.nodeValue)
    get = null;
    function appendToSelect(pSelect, pValue, pContent) {
    var l_Opt = document.createElement("option");
    l_Opt.value = pValue;
    if(document.all){/* why is ie different ask bill */
    pSelect.options.add(l_Opt);
    l_Opt.innerText = pContent;
    }else{
    l_Opt.appendChild(document.createTextNode(pContent));
    pSelect.appendChild(l_Opt);
    //-->
    </script>
    This is used for a cascading LOV where the return value of a first select list determines what is shown in a second select list and so is called by the onchange javascript event on the first select list.
    So you just need to manipulate the first javascript function to accept whatever you want your input to be.
    I don't have time to do this right now but if you need further help I will check back this evening.
    Cheers

  • LOTS of Mac & Macbook Questions

    Hey all,
    My parents have just told me that as a birthday/xmas gift they are going to help me buy a laptop
    I wanted to know a couple things:
    My dad got a macbook free (SO lucky) through his work but it is the most basic 1.83Ghz with 512mb ram Core Duo version. I really wanted the Black Macbook but it is probably going to be out of my price range so I am thinking of the White one with 2.0Ghz/1Gb ram Core 2 Duo. Am I going to notice a really significant performance leap? I am only asking what would seem to be a stupid question because I was playing with a brand new Black Core 2 Duo version at a local retailer and it seemed rather sluggish when compared to the Core Duo my dad has at home. This through me for a bit of a loop so yea could someone throw out their opinion on this?
    Secondly, i've had iPods for a while and I see this macbook as being in the same boat as needing protection from regular daily use. I have my eye on one of those Speck hard cases but they are not available in town (yet) so I can't actually see what one would look like. I was curious to know if anyone here has used one and is the Red really red or is it kind of a pink colour (when overtop of a white macbook)?
    Also, will this hardcase scratch the macbook? I've had hard plastic cases like this for my ipod and it tended to get scratched up inside of the case...not nearly as bad as it would without it but still some damage non-the-less.
    My dad's battery life is about 3hrs give or take a bit on his Core Duo ... will my Core 2 Duo have more life? And if so about how much? (I know I know it depends on usage but can it really hit close to that 6hr mark apple is advertising?)
    Finally, I have never owned a laptop, or a mac, before so I am going to be leaving the old PC desktop behind and I wanted to know: I use Microsoft's OneNote for typing notes for class and I enjoy that you can draw quick diagrams (MS Paint style) and drag/drop them anywhere on the page. What I don't enjoy is that once they are in a spot they refuse to move! What is a good program on Mac to take notes and offer drag/drop picture abilities?
    Also...can someone tell me any reasons, anything at all that would deter me from Mac? I would love to game but honestly my PC hasn't been able to do it for years so i'm used to it, i've got an Xbox, and my parents (logically enough) don't want to fund a gaming machine they want something I can use productively at school. So gaming isn't a major concern and i'm pretty sure Mac will handle all I need but if someone has had a bad experience do let me know.
    And finally, the very last question: I love a number of features on Leopard ... but I hear it is to be released in the Spring. Thats a bit too long for me (I want to use this for next semester) so how much will Leopard cost a student AND is there any other major things/changes to the macbook that I shoudl wait for (something like their switch from Core Duo to Core 2)?
    I know thats a lotta questions but now that my parents are seriously going to help me out this can happen in a week so I gotta get my facts straight haha.
    Thanks a lot all!
    Chris
    P.S. I hadn't used my mac account for a while ... and while I was able to reset my password it forced me to change my user name from touchmyrouter to what it is now ... any suggestions on how to get my original back?
    Custom Built Windows XP

    Let me address your questions one at a time:
    1) You'll notice a small but significant performance boost between a 1.83GHz Core Duo and a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo. As for which is the best deal, I'd say the current 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo White, because it comes with a bigger hard drive, more RAM, a dvd-burning superdrive, and a faster processor, all for about $150 more. The DVD-R drive is great for backups, and you need at least 1GB of RAM to get decent performance anyway, so it's money well spent.
    2) I don't know much about cases. For travel, I actually am currently using the soft slip-case I bought for my TiBook (Powerbook G4 15"). It's a bit big for the computer, but it works well for travel. I haven't noticed any bad scratching yet, but I haven't moved my laptop around much either.
    3) The Core 2 Duo MacBook probably gets about the same battery life as the Core Duo. 3 1/2 hours per charge with Airport on and doing some light to moderate computing is about the best you can get from any laptop with current battery technology.
    4) For note-taking, the MacBook comes with OmniOutliner, which is awesome for making outlines. The version that comes bundled allows you to attach documents and graphics within the outline, but I don't think it's very robust. OmniGroup also makes OmniGraffle, which allows you to make flowcharts that are graphics-heavy. I find that it's a little overly complicated at times, but I've also made some amazing stuff with it.
    5) I don't know what would deter you from buying a Mac. I've had very few problems over 12 years of ownership of various Macs. They tend to be very reliable, and when things do go wrong, Apple is usually prompt and professional in fixing them.
    6) Leopard is probably going to cost students about $69.00, as I seem to recall paying that as a student for every version of the Mac OS starting from 10.0 all the way through 10.4. I doubt Apple will suddenly raise the price for Leopard, though you never know.
    Good luck with your new MacBook. It really is an awesome computer, despite all the flack it takes on these boards from a handful of users with defective units.
    P.S. I don't know how to get back your old account.

  • DYNAMIC LOV FOR SELECT LIST

    hi to all,
    i've a question regarding lov query based select list:
    For a certain user i need that the lov display a list
    if app_user = BACK_OFFICE I NEED THAT ther query on wich is populated the
    select list is qry 1.
    if app_user is another (consultant) i need query 2 for populating the select list
    1) select name|| ' ' || fname D, id K from partner
    2) select name|| ' ' || fname D, id K from partner WHERE UNAME=(:APP_USER)
    Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.
    Another solution would be to have 2 different apps (one for back-office, one for external consultant), but there i should always duplicate all changes to the second one, loosing a lot of time.
    Now thinking as well to use hidden fields.
    If not clear enough please ask me.
    Thanx a lot.

    I think one solution wold be to create two different named querys, one containing query 1 and the second query 2. Than u must create an Application Item(like a session variable) in wich u will store you condition. If you want to use the app_user variable u allready have it so you don't need to create it any more. On your page where u want to display the different select list u create two items, one with the query 1 as source and a second item(select list) having the source query 2. Then you must add a condition display on both of them like. Item one is displayed when Value of Item in expression 1 equals expression 2. And you pust :APP_USER in expression 1 and BACK_OFFICE in expression 2. And for the other item, that contains query 2, you put the opposite condition Value of item in expression 1 is not equal to expression 2, and expression 1 is :APP_USER and in expression 2 is BACK_OFFICE.
    Hope this helps.

  • A customized LOV. Is this possible ?

    Folks,
    How can I present a user with a list of partials matches after he has executed a query from a form?
    For example, the user enters "query mode" on a form then types a partial last name, "Gonzal", then presses Enter. Now I want to give me a list of partial matches for him to choose from.
    How can I do this ? Perhaps a customized LOV ?
    Please help!

    Thanks for that response.
    Another question re: LOV's:
    When I display my LOV, I only want to show two or three fields, but yet I want to fully populate the form with many more fields.
    Right now, it seems to be populating my form with only those few fields I specified in the LOV wizard.
    Is this were record group comes in ?
    Thanks,

  • IPhone reception -technical question

    Please don't ball me out if this is a dumb question - I love my iPhone and how it does everything except get good reception at my home. Most of the time I have zero bars. My previous Nokia phone ( also at&t) got a better signal here. So here's the question - does anyone know if the new iPhone will have the same antenna or a different one? I went to the at&t support site to chat with a technician about this but a lot of their site is down for maintenance.

    Some believe that the plastic back will help improve reception. Since the phone hasn't been released yet, it's tough to say for sure.

  • Colors in LOV

    Hi All,
    I have 2 questions on LOV's.
    I have a LOV with three columns. Dept,DeptNO,Level.
    All the columns are bound to a table.
    I have only two levels: 1 and 2.
    1.If Level is 1, then the records with the level 1 should be highlighted when LOV is invoked.
    2.If dept is "maths", then the DeptNo should be displayed as null even if value is present in Database.
    Regards,
    Gopi.

    hi,
    1.If Level is 1, then the records with the level 1 should be highlighted when LOV is invoked.in the lov add a where clause, something like
    select col1,col2
    from table x
    where level = :level:level is the item present in the block. so when the item :level gets the value then the lov will be displayed according to that.
    2.If dept is "maths", then the DeptNo should be displayed as null even if value is present in Database.you can use decode function like below
    select col1,decode(dpt_name,'maths',null) dept_name,col3
    from table1
    where conditionEdited by: GD on Jun 7, 2011 5:37 AM

  • Record groups and LOV

    HI
    I have a question regarding LOV's.
    I have 2 fields dept_code which is a checkbox and field2 which is an LOV displaying the employee names based on the dept_code selected.
    My record group has a query like this -
    SELECT empname FROM emp WHERE dept_code IN(:parameter.P_dept_code). p_dept_code is char.
    If the user enters multiple department codes then my p_dept_code should contain commas and single quotes for each department like this ('m10','m20')
    In which trigger do I do this coding and how do I do it?
    Thanks.

    Hi
    Thanks for your response.
    The key-listval does'nt seem to firing.
    When I run the form the lov comes up but displays the value 2 which is from the default record group(select 1 "dno", 2 "ename" from dual).
    This is the code in my key-listval -
    DECLARE
    rg_name VARCHAR2(40) := 'name_rg';
    rg_id RecordGroup;
    gc_id GroupColumn;
    errcode NUMBER;
    BEGIN
    rg_id := Find_Group(rg_name);
    IF Id_Null(rg_id) THEN
    rg_id := Create_Group(rg_name);
    gc_id := Add_Group_Column(rg_id, 'dno',
    CHAR_COLUMN,10);
    gc_id := Add_Group_Column(rg_id, 'empno',
    CHAR_COLUMN,100);
    END IF;
         :parameter.p_dno := ''''||replace(:parameter.p_dno,',',''',''')||'''';
    errcode := Populate_Group_With_Query( rg_id,

  • LOV regions - possible to use several items as query-able criteria

    Hi,
    I have a question about LOV regions –
    Is it possible to have several items that are query-able criteria and result for a LOV region?
    Addition to the LOV–input-item itself, I’d like to have another item that will be used as one of the criteria’s to the LOV-query.
    I’ve defined the “Criteria Item” value for an additional item, which his “LOV Region Item” is query-able, but the value doesn’t appear in the search field,
    When entering the LOV-region.
    Do I have to add the additional criteria to the LOV by initializing the VO?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rona

    Seems lot of confusion with LOV. Well first thing to do is to go through the LOV section of Dev guide for more understanding.
    As for your questions, yes, you can have multiple items that are query-able criteria and result. You can use another item as the criteria to lov query, but it has to be a form element.
    If your criteria is set properly, you don't need to initialize VO manually.

  • Use the new aluminium keyboard on a PC with Windows XP

    Hello all,
    That post is describing the problems I have when using the new apple aluminium keyboard on a PC using the windows XP keyboard drivers found on the boot camp CD (1.4)
    This is my first post here so please be kind with me
    First, let me know in case there is a better section where I should post that post.
    I know that what I will ask here may not be a supported scenario. I understand that. But anyway. Here it is.
    I am using Windows XP on a PC not a mac computer.
    I bought one of the new aluminium keyboards. I love it, it's excellent. I know that the box says it requires mac os X 10.4 and up... I understand al that.
    Because it is an USB keyboard, I thought I like it, let's try it on a PC. It worked but the letters on the keyboard are not placed like those on a PC.
    Then I tought, why not use the driver for that keyboard provided on the bootcamp CD. I bought the keyboard. I own all my licences, so why not?
    First I had a lot of troubles extracting those drivers from the bootcamp CD. I use Transmac for that.
    A long story short. It's working and I'm typing that post right now on my cool keyboard.
    so why am I here? Because it's not working perfectly.
    All the keys are working perfectly, only the companion softwares are not.
    I'm unable to launch the bootcamp dashboard, I have the icon in my systray but when I try to open the dashboard I get:
    Boot Camp
    An error occurred while trying to access the startup disk settings.
    You may not have privileges to change the startup disk. Make sure you have administrative privileges and try again.
    OK
    I understand that. I guess this is related to the boot camp dual boot feature.
    I guess that if this was working I could access to the bootcamp option panel and eventually have the opportunity to get access to the keyboard options? maybe I'm guessing wrong.
    So, what I'm asking here is for the apple developpers working on the windows drivers for the apple hardware.
    Do you think that you could test your drivers on PCs ? I'm pretty sure you could sell some more keyboard to the PC peoples as your keyboards are trully excellent.
    The 'problems' I have are the following:
    - I cannot lock or unlock the fn key, what I would like to do is use the F7 to F12 keys by default and press the fn key if I ant to access to the scpecial features, like for sound and CD eject
    - kbrd.exe does not always start automaticaly. And when I start it by hand my computer freezes for about ten seconds
    - the keyboard layout should only be changed for the apple keyboard, not for all the keyboards connected to the PC. Because I have two keyboards attached to my computer, my previous pc keyboard and the new apple keyboard. The layout on the PC keyboard is now the same as for the apple keyboard. this is wrong as it renders my previous keyboard useless. why do I need another keyboard? because that other one is cable less, meaning I can use it to control my PC when I'm not in front of it. But now, with the apple keyboard drivers this is not longer possible
    - an option to have to press fn+eject to eject the CD would be nice. this will avoid me pressing eject by accident when I try to press the back delete key
    - also as the drivers exist, why not let people like me download them outside of bootcamp for the kind of scenario I'm describing here?
    That would all be very nice.
    If you need a tester for that scenario, count on me,
    Thank you for your comprehension about me asking such a question
    I love that keyboard and do not intend to stop using it,
    John.

    Hello spidermains,
    Happy to see that I have a friend in that adventure
    Look I have a blog entry here:
    http://www.happytocode.com/post/Can-I-use-the-new-Apple-USB-Aluminium-keyboard-o n-Windows.aspx
    That post describes all the steps I followed to extract the drivers from the dual boot camp CD.
    I'm using a PC, only a PC. I do not have any Apple computer (yet).
    When I mention boot camp, I mean the boot camp CD on one side and the boot camp utilities on the other side. To be more specific the tool I'm talking about is the kbrmgr.exe
    That tool sits in the systray and is handling the special keys of the keyboard.
    If you have other questions... let me know,
    John.

  • [XI 3.0]  Date Format

    Hi All,
    I have one question regarding LOV in designer. (the same problem in deski and infoview)
    Problem is with date format. When we display LOV we get data 1.1.2009 (d.m.yyyy) and we would like to have like this 01.01.2009 (dd.mm.yyyy). Data type of object is date.
    Regional settings :dd.mm.yyyy.
    Oracle: NLS_LANG => SLOVENIAN_SLOVENIA.EE8MSWIN1250
    Object formating in universe => dd.mm.yyyy
    P.S.
    The same universe works fine in 6.1.3
    Installed software:
    BOE XI 3.0 with SP1,SP2,SP3 (on tomcat)
    Oracle client 10.2
    Windows server 2003 or windows XP
    Regional settings => Slovenian
    Thank you for reply!
    Regards,
    Gregor

    Try this:
    In Designer, open the universe which has the date object.
    2. Create a new object called "new_date" with a character data type, then in the select box of this object type the following:
    to_char(EMP.HIREDATE,"DD.MM.YYYY")
    3. Open the Object properties of the original date object (for example, called "Hiredate") and replace the existing LOVs of Hiredate by new_date (Properties tab > Edit button).
    4. You can now hide the object new_date if required.
    5. Click Run > Display to view the updated list of values where the date format of the LOVs is now in the format; DD.MM.YYYY.

  • Browser not working correctly

    My browser does not seem to want to go more than the homepage deep on any particular site, the two examples I will use our Snapfish and Realtor.com.  When I try to log into my snapfish account, the screen says loading then just goes grey.  When I try to type in a place on Realtor.com, it won't take and stays stuck on current page.  Or today that website told me that I have to enable Javascript.  Could this be my overall problem?
    Sorry to inundate with questions but also how/why can i not get PNC banking on this phone?  Why are there so many apps for the Iphone out there and not BB?  Should I bug individual companies on this issue?

    Websites can be coded to perform better with some browsers rather than others. The BB Browser can appear to websites as several different things...that setting is, from within the Browser App, (BBKey > Options > Browser Configuration > Browser Identification). Changing that to another browser might help your BB interact better with some websites. In combination with all of the other configuration settings, you need to find the combination of all of these settings that works best for the sites you are visiting. Sadly, there is no "best advice" to give as each persons needs are different. But, I typically find that changing the Browser Identification often helps -- most often by changing to FF or IE (if those are available to you...the options vary by carrier).

    Same as above...you also should check if they have a mobile-enabled site for you to use.

    There are tons of apps. I've never seen a definitive comparison of quantity...so the only information is subjective opinion.

    Yes -- typically, RIM does not write the apps. Others do. And they must choose to port their app to each BB platform/model/OS level.

  • Primary key in new form wizard

    I tried to create a form with report using the New Form Wizards. But it seems always hidden the primary key and if I make changes to the generated form or report, I normally end up with broken pages. I found the forms in the example application are against tables with sequence backed primary key. But all our tables are not use that approach. Does anyone know any work around?
    Another unrelated question about LOV? It seems the wizard require two different column to be used. If I want a list based on one column (like show all the possible value of one column), how can I do that?

    i just created a "Form with Report" and a "Form on a Table or View" using the wizards on htmldb.oracle.com which i accessed a few different ways, and they seemed to consistently expose the primary key of my table in the form. if you're referring to your primary key column in your report being rendered as an edit icon, you can change that from the report column attributes screen for your primary key column. just use the popup LOV for the "Link Text" field in the "Column Link" region of that screen to select the primary key value from your query rather than the html image tag that's there by default. also, if you'd like to, let us know what tweaks you're making to your generated forms/reports that result in errors. we should be able to help you with those, too.
    i think the last part of your question above asks about using the wizards against tables that don't have sequence-backed primary keys. if so, i just did that on htmldb.oracle.com w/o issues. i might not be understanding your issue correctly, but it seems like you shouldn't have problems doing this. if so, though, please provide much more detail. we did have some issues with this stuff (and with the primary key column not being exposed as you mentioned above) in some earlier versions of html db. is it possible that you're not running of the most current version: 1.4.2.00.21 ?

    html db likes you to define your LOV queries using both a value to be displayed and a value to be returned to be submitted. if you'd like these values to be the same, simply select the same value twice from your table (being sure to alias the columns, which is always a good habit). so if you want to show and return all values of ename from emp, you could define your LOV query to be something like...
    select ename my_display_val, ename my_return_val from emp order by 1
    ...and that'd do it.
    </raj>
    hope this helps,
