1.     What database types/ sources can the BI pull from?OBIEE supports many popular databases out there including flat file, xml's as sources.
2.     Is the license portable from one server to another? No. As far as I know you have to buy the license based on number of servers you are doing the installation on.
3.     Are pages, graphs, reports, etc. 508 compliant?OBIEE is 508 compliant application.
4.     Is the license portable from one server to another?Refer to answer for Question # 2.
5.     Are pages, graphs, reports, etc. 508 compliant?Refer to answer to Question # 3.
6.     How large a dataset can the BI handle?Depends. You can do performance tuning both on BI server side as well as database to boost up the performance. Caching plays a major role here.
7.     How easily does the BI tool integrate new data to it's database? Not sure what you are asking here.
8.     What precautions do the BI use to back up data?OBIEE does not store any data. It only stores the metadata of the tables you are using.
9.     Level of Effort/ Steps involved to install, upgrade, or maintain BIPretty good documentation out there and many blog posts that should help you ease you through the installation process.
10.     Can the BI be used to create/moderate forums (wordpress or other)No. OBIEE is not a CMS.
11.     Can user comments be routed to different mailboxes based on predefined conditions (for example, url or user actions on the page)?Yes.
12.     Does dashboard support embedding flash?Yes.
13.     Are cross-tab capabilities supported in business view, dashboard, and ad hoc queries?Yes.
14.     What type of charts can be created with the BI?Many different kinds. Some of them are:
Bar
Line
Area
Pie
Line-Bar
Time Series Line
Pareto
Scatter
Bubble
Radar
15.     What is the level of effort/ steps involved to create new tools and widgets? Not sure what you are asking here.
16.     Is the BI compatible with Linux/Unix?Yep.
17.     Are end user analytics recorded? (Web trends records, query tracking, page usage, etc.)Yes. Usage tracking.
18.     How does the BI handle version control? There are good number of useful tools for version controlling in OBIEE.

  • Questions on Advanced Features of iMovie '11

    Dear Forums,
I have a few questions on the features of iMovie '11.
    1. Can I apply a fade to the green screen feature? In iMovie '09, I could do green screen, but you could not apply a transition to the video that was being "keyed out," (having the green screen effect applied). The background image could transition, but you could not apply the fade to the green screen video. Has that changed?
    2. Can you do Green Screen & Picture in Picture, at the same time, in iMovie '11? Can't in iMovie '09.
    3. Can you do Green Screen, Picture in Picture, and Text effects, and audio, and transitions, all at the same time, in imovie '11?
    Thanks!
    Ero

iMovie renders everything when you use the SHARE menu after editing your project.
Most of the things you are asking about require multiple renders. For example, you would render the green screen first, then render the fade, then render the PIP.
You need Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro to do multiple renders.
You can simulate multiple renders in iMovie by making a project that contains the specific clip. THen apply the green screen and SHARE to Apple Intermediate Codec. Reimport the Apple INtermediate Codec into iMovie as a new event. Drag it to a project and apply the second effect. Export to AIC. REimport and apply the third effect.
If you do a lot of this, you should use the Final Cut family of products.

  • Security question in obiee 11g

    Hi,
I have a question on security configuration on what we have in 10 and deploying to 11g.
Q1. how deploy external database security(users, groups) to OBIEE 11g.
we used external database security in 10g. all the users and groups maintained in database and obiee rpd has security groups. repository has group information only so it is deployed groups information to obiee 11g by upgrade assistant but how can it deploy users in external database?
Q2. all the users and roles in LDAP server. in this case how obiee 11g read users and group information?
    Thanks

  • Few Questions on OBIEE Architecture

This is just a continuation of this thread:
Confused on BI Publisher and BI Presentation Services
So just want to know how the whole process takes place, from RPD, XDO, NSQconfig..
    So from Step 1 =)
From what I understand as of now is I need to go to Administration Tool, create first a repository? Then go to BI Presentation Services to create reports ( using Answers )? When does the user creation comes into place? What is the purpose of BI Publisher? I've already setup a few things on BI Publisher like User, Roles, etc. but still not on the part of creating a report. Sorry If I ask too many questions, I'm just trying to understand what's the relationship of each tool. I've checked the docs and mostly they're just diving into modifying configs without really explaining why. ( at least that's how I saw it ) =)
    Thank you very much again!

Wow - where do we start !
Remember they are two seperate products, OBIEE and its related configs / components (RPD, BI Server, BI Presentation services - Answers, Dashboards, ibots etc)
BI Publisher, formerley XML Publisher, sucessor to Oracle Reports.
They fall under the Oracle BI Stack.
Loads of info on our website, link in the previous post you mentioned.
'Roles' in OBIEE can determine - Authorisation ie what you can do in the sytem or "Priviledges". What objects (reports / dashboards) you can use and can also be used for data security filters (Like a OBIEE 'virtual private database' version of the real Oracle DB option 'VPD')
Roles in BI Publsher typically can mean the same, who can create folders, who can create reports, who can run them , who can create data sources etc. Sometimes you have to use a system specific role name, sometimes you can create your own names and reference them as you please (BIP roles are typically one of a pre-defined set, OBIEE roles can be called whatever you want)
Sounds hard at first and without prior experience but seriously, there are some very very good blogs out there, as mentioned in previous response, we also have a lot of info on our website (Peakindicators.com)
    Feel free to email me.

  • Questions on OBIEE Cache maintenance

    Hi Experts,
I have few questions regarding the OBIEE cache.
    1. How to clean the cache ? Is there any method to clean the cache using Unix scripts.
    2. Is there any way to call an unix script using the iBots ?
    Thanks in Advance.
    svr

    Hy,
To purge the cache, you have several way :
    http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dat/obiee/bi_server/cache/obiee_purging_query_cache
The classic way is to use the ODBC function :
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12103_01/books/admintool/admintool_QueryCaching6.html
And to insert them in a script :
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12096_01/books/AnySched/AnySched_Scripts2.html
That you can call with the job Manager.

  • New to OBIEE- Questions on OBIEE infrastructure..

    Hi Gurus/Experts,
I am very very new OBIEE technology. Our company decided to change the technology to OBIEE. So, We are in process of understanding the architecture and infrastructure for the same.
    I have couple of questions:
-the BI web server is the piece that has to run on Windows or It can run any machine?
-can the BI server and the BI scheduler server run in the same physical server (AIX) ?
Please let me if you are not clear on my questions.
It would be really great help..
    Warm regards,
    Ganesh Krishna.

-the BI web server is the piece that has to run on Windows or It can run any machine?Yes, OBIEE installers are available in different flavors like windows, LINUX, Solaris etc. You can have your BI web server (SAW) on any of the supported envn. Its not mandate to have it just on windows..
-can the BI server and the BI scheduler server run in the same physical server (AIX) ? Yes, both can run on same server. This is general practice..
    Refer OBIEE documentation here..

    Hope this clears your doubt.

  • Questions about BLOG feature and about Google Maps Widget

Hi, just started using iweb & mobileme to take a break from dreamweaver & ISP host (I am so bored with both of them). iWeb 09 seems very VERY cool, but I chose a theme with a blog feature for a blog I am starting for our studio, and it works strangely. The entries are replicated in full on the blog home page, and that does not make sense. Read more? Why, you just read it all! Albeit in smaller print and different layout. But I am sure that I am missing something there:) Also, how do people comment on the articles? I see nothing there!
On google map, I want to add a pin but don't see how using the widget. It only gives me a google known address, which are few and far between in Nepal. So how do I fix that?
    Here is the draft site:

ALSO, BONUS QUESTION: where is the best place to get more/better canned themes for iWeb, and are there tips on installing them? thx!!!

  • Some random questions about integration features

    Greetings,
after working for a few weeks with Autovue's ISDK (web server) and having some sucess with its integration with our custom CMS, I have a few random questions about what can be done and what can't be done. So, instead of opening many new threads, I'll post them here together.
    1) Translation. We are localised in Russia, and its translation is incomplete. I have found a tra_en.properties file in AutoVue/bin, and a description about how to create a properties file for custom actions. But no information about how to translate to other languages - and russian translation appears to be packed within the jar of the applet. Is there a clean way to translate, or refine the current translation, so we don't get a mix of russian and english commands in the applet? Because my tries using EXTRABUNDLES have failed, as I don't want to add a bundle for extra actions, but to replace it for existing ones.
    2) Attachments in markups. Markups allow to attach other files, but since our CMS is custom, we only get the option to attach files from our local drives. We did no browse integration with the CMS, as people with different levels of permission will have different access to files there, and we considered unnecessary to provide that level of integration. We are considering to remove this action from the GUI, but before that I'd like to evaluate how hard would it be to generate an upload file action, so the attached file would be stored in the custom CMS and linked to it so the whole thing worked. My guess is "it will be hard and time consuming", so for now, we are considering to delete this feature in our integration.
    3) Is there a way to resize the Open markup dialog? We have several properties displayed, and fit well within a standard screen, but the dialog is small and you have to scroll the table to see all properties.
Thanks for any assistance with these issues

As always, thanks for the fast answer, Artash.
Yes, now I see attachments are stored inside the markup file. The problem is, when I open markup mode for the attachment, since the attachment uses some kind of default access method, my url's from the integration with the background CMS are broken completely. I believe the ideal state here would be to make some kind of inner markup for the attachment, maybe stored within the original markup file along the attached file. Or maybe it works that way, and I need to access it with the default gui action instead of my custom one. If that is the case, is there any way to tell the gui file how to differentiate a standard opened file from an attached one? If so, the issue has solution. If not... Well, then maybe something escapes me.

  • DVR 620 - A lot of questions on its features

    Hey all,
I tried searching some answers online but unfortunately haven't succeed.
I am trying to purchase the DVR 620 - DVD/VCR combo to replace another dvd player I have (which will be used for another tv since I can't record from that tv now >__<).
However, I have a lot of questions I have in mind before purchasing the DVR620.  My main concern right now is the "no tuner" issue.
    1. What is an external tuner?  I don't even know if I need to buy one to record my tv shows..  I usually record tv shows directly to my VCR player.  Now that this system is "tunerless," will I need to buy one?
I have DISH network and I am recording inside my bedroom.  The main receiver (I don't know if that is the "cable box" that is referred to) is in the living room connected to another tv.  There is no receiver box connected to the bedroom tv.  I don't know if that has any significance or relevance in whether or not I will need an external tuner.
Essentially, will I be able to record tv programs to VCR and DVD if there is no DISH receiver located inside my bedroom
    2. My second question is, I read in other posts, L2, L3 is sited frequently in connection to dubbing VCR to DVD or vice versa.  What is L2, L3?  Is it in the DVR620 or part of the tv system??
    3. I read that the DVR 620 can record directly from tv to DVD.  Is it the same process like the traditional VCRs, e.x. one click of the record+player buttons and it will record to DVD.
I am afraid I cannot record using DVR620 because of the tuner issue and thus I want to clarify it before making a purchase.  The VCR to DVD conversion feature is great but I don't want to purchase a player if I can't record television shows to VCR and DVD with ease.

Surely you know what a coaxial cable is, and an RCA cable too. Those are not part of newer technology like say, an HDMI connector. Maybe you just don't know them by those names. I've attached a photo. The red and white connectors are RCA male plugs. Those are the kind that you need to use with the DVR620KU. The other is a coaxial cable and connector. This may very well be what you're using to connect between your Dish box and the bedroom VCR. A long coaxial cable is relatively cheap, but a long pair of RCA cables would be much pricier.
I believe that the adapter at this link might work to convert the coaxial RF signal to RCA audio/video:
    http://www.amazon.com/RCA-Compact-RF-Modulator-CRF907R/dp/B0014KKV7W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=14151485...
But I am not 100% certain of this. But if it works, and you have a long coaxial cable, you'd connect the cable to the RF modulator and then connect RCA cables from it to the DVR620KU.

  • I have  a question in OBIEE basic concepts

    Hi,
I am prasanna Undapalli.I have question, can u please anyone solve this.
Can i use an OLTP backend database for creating a dashboard?
    thanks inadvance,
    prasanna

    Hi,
Technically you can use OBIEE with OLTP as well. However real world scenarios pertaining to OLTP makes it difficult for OBIEE to create Star schema from OLTP. Also OBIEE is an engine to perform analytics queries, while in most cases queries generated against OLTP schemas are operational in nature. Better option is to use BI publisher and do away with OBIEE when querying against OLTP.
OBIEE works with any database if you force to do. If you want to follow best practices, its recommended to use with OLAP systems. After all OBIEE is analytics reporting tool and OLAP databases were designed for reporting requirements. So its always advised use the OLAP to get better performance and better analytics from OBIEE.
Bottom line, you can use OLTP with OBIEE but performance will be an issue (not advisable).

  • Doubt in OBIEE features

    Hi Experts,
I'm working on the evaluation of different reporting tools.
I have following doubts on the features of OBIEE:
    (1) Does OBIEE support generating reports for real time data?
    (2) Does OBIEE has the facility to connect to JDE OE database?
    (3) OBIEE Answers is provided by default if someone buy OBIEE plus or it should be bought separately.
Pls let me know your views on the above.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi karthick,
    Thanks for your immediate response.
Can you elaborate more on your responses because I'm completely new to OBIEE. If possible, can you provide some more details.

  • Questions re: Licensing & Feature Availability of the DSC module

    Hello,
I transferred a project to another development PC. When I opened it, some of my network shared variables (NSV's) were flagged with Feature Errors: "Initial Value: Not licensed or cannot be edited outside of LabVIEW." I found out that it's because I didn't install the DSC Module on the newer machine; removing the "initial value" feature made the error message disappear.
That error itself wasn't a big deal, but it got me thinking and investigating. http://www.ni.com/white-paper/4679/en says:
If you want to use the features of the LabVIEW DSC Module, you must host the shared variables on Windows. The LabVIEW DSC Module adds the following functionality to network-published shared variables:
    · Historical logging to NI Citadel database.
    · Networked alarms and alarm logging.
    · Scaling.
    · User-based security.
    · Initial value.
    · The ability to create custom I/O servers.
    · Integration of the LabVIEW event structure with the shared variable.
    · LabVIEW VIs to programmatically control all aspects of shared variables and the shared variable engine.
    Question 1
I did not realize that the Initial Value feature was part of the DSC Module. If I use it in a project, does that mean that my customer would need to buy a DSC runtime license? (I'm not using any other DSC feature)
    Question 2
In my project, the NSV's in question were hosted on a cRIO target, yet my prototype (which had Initial Value enabled) ran happily without issues. This contradicts the documentation above which says "you must host the shared variables on Windows". Is this expected?
    Question 3
I created a new NSV on my new machine (which doesn't have DSC installed). I saw the "Scaling" option. Is Scaling part of the DSC module or not?
    Question 4
Initial Value and Scaling are generic features, unrelated to data logging/supervisory control. Why are they in the DSC Module? Should they not be in the base SV Engine?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    1. Yes, any build that uses DSC features require a runtime license.
    2. That's a recommendation for more reliable operations.
    3. No, it is a native LabVIEW capability. The DSC modules simply adds more features regarding communication to protocols, alarming, etc
    4. Initial value, Yes. Scaling, no. I believe is for easy access. Old school method is the one shown in here at the section "Initialize Your Shared Variables".
For more information about DSC visit this page.

  • Question about ipads features?

wanting to know if its really worth it?i mean $700 and $829 for a 64 gb? my ipod bigger then that..it seems not worth it with such little storage..i mean for the price..i mean they're really cool and the in thing to have..also i would like to know can these play flash?or is it really just like a huge ipod touch or iphone?what makes it different from those?

    Well, it depends.
I see the questions you are asking are the usual trivial 'negative' points most anti-Apple posters ask (but are not really asking a question...just trotting out over-inflated features that were never designed into the iPad to begin with)
First. Price. The iPad's start at $499. Which is for a 16gb Wifi version. The prices you brought up are for the 32gb and 64gb Wifi-3g. Which hasn't even been released yet. A good netbook (new not refurbed) will run almost as much as the $499 model. The other tablets that are available, and not vapor-ware, cost as much and have thier own 'feature set' that has shortcomings. So, the prices are in line with what's available. Not overpriced.
Second. Flash. Ok, it does not run flash. When the iPad was released all the "Technology" writers poo-pooed this 'shortcoming'. This is actually not that big an issue. Many websites like ABC, CNN, ESPN, Netflix, and soon Hulu, are all writing HTML5 or Apps that are not Flash dependant. This will still leave some sites that are not useable for the iPad (or iPhone, Touch, and some other OS's). Matter of fact the highly touted 'iPad killer' Adam by Notion Ink is being delayed becuase of Flash incompatibilties (among other reasons). The Joo-Joo can, sort-of-kinda, run Flash but according to reviews it runs everything so badly it's a non-issue.
Third. Niche. The iPad is not a phone, a laptop, a desktop, a UMD, or even a netbook. It was designed and marketed as a 'third' device. A media consumption device. It's not a Kindle but can dance to the tune. It's not an iPod but plays music very well. It's not a replacement for a laptop or desktop but can run light content creation apps. It does email very well. It has a large and varied selection of apps that can make it a light duty presentation device.
In other words, it's not an anti-matter powered, coffee dispensing, hot tub time machine. It's a very portable 'about the house' or 'coffee shop companion'. As much as the "anything but Apple" critics wanna compare it to what is availabe (and things that are not even released yet) except for the Archos 9, there isn't anything that really is in the same market. The Archos 9 is cool, but, it has it's drawbacks too. Namely running a 'desktop' OS built for keyboard and mouse input on a 'touch-screen' device. The Lenova S10-3t is another 'tablet like' device that is well-built but because of requirements of legacy products and it's OS draws 'meh' reviews. Go look them up on Amazon and read the reviews. The iPad handily beats them in the market it's designed for.
If you don't understand this..or just posted it to get a rise out of us "Apple Users" go shopping somewhere else (PC)...they'll be more than happy to take your money and give you EXACTLY what you deserve.

  • Questions on the features of a textarea.

    Hi experts,
I am working on Documaker 12.0.1. I have some doubt related to the feature of a textarea mentioned below. Could you please put a light on it ?
    _1. Sizing_
         a- Can grow and shrink
         b- Can span pages
         c- Must fit on page
         d- Suppress variable lines
         e- Adjust top line
    _2.Default (fonts)_
         a- Tab stops
I am having some problem while creating a fap. I have 2 textareas in a fap and separated by some space, when I am seeing the output the whole fap is going to second page, although it is having enough space to print in the first page itself. For some case when I am unchecking the ADJUST TOP LINE and checking CAN GROW AND SHRINK, its coming in first page. fap is auto sized also. When I am minimizing the space between two textareas to print in first page, its overlapping. Please let me know if you need any more information..
    Thanks,
    Bikas Ranjan

You mention multiple options that can affect the result in numerous ways. For instance, 'Must fit' means that the text area must fit on a page if it can. So even with the can span turned on, the text might move as an entirety to the next page if it can't stay as a whole on the first page.
Also note that with multiple text areas on a page, only the one text area that is formatting is allowed to split during that format. That means if you put two text areas one above the other and then make the top one grow, the bottom text area is "pushed". And if it encounters the bottom of the page, that text area will go to the next page - even if you had the split option on that one too. This behavior is not normally a problem when you consider that sections are mapped from top to bottom, but if you are using a different order or unusal sized items, it can get in the way.
