Quick answer for new keynote user

I'm sure this is an easy answer, but I just don't know the program that well yet.
Though I can select it, there is this double divider line on my slides that I want to change the color of or delete.  I can't seem to find anything in inspector which allows me to mess with it.  I can copy and paste it, duplicate it, but not delete it.  Help?  Picture attached.
Jeremy

I found that when I just had the Colors palette open and I tried chanign the color, the intended color change didn't actually "stick". Instead, on the lower part of the main toolbar, toward the left, I clicked the swatch for the current color of the line, then clicked the little "show colors" link. Even though that gave me the same color palette, the color changes I made actually worked.

  • G4 won't boot up for new Mac user

Hi guys. Brand new to Apple computers as I got a "defective" G4 from my neighbor. He was going to throw it away but I told him I would try to fix it first.
When I power it up, it makes a musical "greeting" power up sound and the monitor goes from dark black (as in "off") to a lighter gray, and then a folder appears in the middle of the screen alternating between a face and a question mark.
Does anyone know what is wrong with this computer so that I can repair it for future use? I am guessing a hard drive malfunction, but do not know for sure. And is it worth fixing? FYI - I do not have any software for this system.
Thanks for any help you can provide!
    -Mark

A 160g hard drive would run you about $70, while OS X would run about $120.
It would be great to borrow a copy of the os installation disk and boot from it to see if the computer has further problems. Do you know any other mac users? It would also allow you to see how much ram is in the machine (OS X likes ram) and that may be a further expense if you need more.
What are you going to use the machine for? That's the main question as to how much you should spend to fix the machine up. I don't know if it would be fast enough for you as an everyday computer, but internet use, word processing, ITunes, IPhoto would all work just fine. You won't be doing any gaming or heavy duty video processing.
I'd talk to them at the Apple Store, explain the situation, maybe they might be able to help given the situation. They've got a chance here to nab a new mac user, I'd think that may help your case.

  • Welcome message for new-registred users

    Hi!
I'm not sure if this is already been suggested or if it's implemented already, but here I go:
When a new user register at the forum or NI, I would presume that the user is new to LabVIEW. How about a welcome message for the new user? This could be a private message and contain useful information. Like links to the biggest and mostly used community groups, links to different basic tutorials, links to popular boards etc.
I see that there are many new users that ask questions which would be answered by doing the basic tutorials. We provide them some links and they appreciate it alot. When I registred a year ago, for me, the NI site and forum where quite unfamiliar and I spent alot of time, just to get to known where to look for stuff. I didn't discover the basic tutorials until I posted a "newbie" question and got some links in reply. The tutorials helped me alot!
The tutorials are not so hard to find, but I think many people, like myself, don't know they exists when they register to the forum.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, since my memory is like "10 second Tom" in the movie "Fifty first dates" with Adam Sandler

    Hi Laura,
I found the 3 and 6 hour courses very useful. Also the learning LV 101 found here.
I believe I just searched the forums for answers and posted questions if I could not find anything. Many of my questions would not have been nessesary if I had taken the courses first.
For providing the user with the links I can think of two ways:
    1. Since there can be users for other products thatn LabVIEW, maybe the links should be general for everyone.
    2. When a user registers, he/she should be able to choose products/interests and the private message could be built based on that. The register page should contain checkboxes and the user just select what he/she wants.

  • Snow Leopard or Lion for new Mac User?

Hi everyone: I purchased my first Mac (a MacBook Pro) about a month back and shortly thereafter upgraded to Lion for free through the apps store.  Since then, using/navigating the new Mac has been somewhat challenging for me and I'm not yet comfortable with using it for all of my computing needs.  (I have an old Toshiba that is still my go-to computer--for the moment.)  I suspect that part of my challenges stem from being a new Mac user (irrespective of the particular OS) after years of using PCs, but I do wonder if they may also relate to OS Lion, which seems to have complicated the user experience.  I was hoping that using a Mac would be more intuitive and simple than it seems to have been thus far.
With that in mind, might there be some utility in me reinstalling Snow Leopard (and if so how?) in order to become more used to the new Mac experience before permanently switching to Lion?  If I do, would I be able to, down the road, resintall Lion for free?
I recognize that this suggestion would involve some learning curve redundancy (learning the Mac on Snow Leopard and eventually re-learning it with Lion).   However, I have a sense that reverting back to Snow Leopard might ease my transition into the new Mac experience.   Either way, I'm looking forward to eventually tossing out that Toshiba!
Thanks for any/all thoughts.  Best, DC

If you want to downgrade to Snow Leopard then do the following:
    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.
However, there isn't that much difference between Snow Leopard and Lion that using Snow Leopard would prove easier to learn. There are lots of tutorials available at the Apple website to help you learn how to use a Mac. You might start with Apple - Support - Mac 101 and Apple - Support - Switch 101. And, for Lion see About MacOS X.

I am a new MAC user trying convince myself this is better than a PC. I have been trying to 3 hours to figure out how to print in color with a document I've created in Pages. I am connected to a HP Photosmart wireless printer. Can someone help me?

    Hi jersey,
Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Pages '09 forum.
Is this strictly a Pages/HP Photosmart issue, or do other applications share this inability to print in colour to this printer?
About the only advice I can offer is to:
    1.
Check the HP site for any updated drivers for your printer. Download and install if any are found.
    2.
Check the printer's settings in the Print dialogue. Your printer may offer the choice, here or in it's utility application, to print using only the black toner cartridge.
    3.
Try opening Pages from a different user account, and printing a new document from there. Success would indicate the issue lies in your user account, probably in a corrupted Pages preference (.plist) file.Go back to your usual account, locate the file and drag it to the trash. Try printing again from your usual account.
If these don't help, I'd suggest reposting your question in the Printing, Faxing and Scanning forum in the Mac OS X v10.6 (Snow Leopard) section of Discussions.

    Barry

  • Stacks and other simple issues..... for new Mac user

My first computer was a commodore 64 with DOS commands and I've been a PC user ever since. You guessed it, Friday I went to the Apple store and bought an iMac! I was up and using it in minutes so I am impressed. However there are a million little things I just can't figure out or that take hours, for example at the Apple store the docking bar when you ran your mouse over the icons they jumped up. Well after a few hours I figured out how to make mine do that! (so cool).
At the store they showed me "stacks" where i put my mouse on something and I could see, pix or documents or e-mail I had somehow saved there, very handy but if my Mac can do that I sure don't see how.
    Here are my two questions:
    1) how do i make stacks work (is it some program i don't have?)
    2) is there a web site or book or something with all the easy stuff (tips and tricks) in it a brand new Mac user should know? (i hate to keep bothering you all with simple questions)
    Thanks, Susa

    Welcome to Mac.
    1) Just drag any folder to the right hand side of the dotted line (the Trash side) of Dock. Then click. Or click and hold on the stack and choose how your stack displays.
    2) take a look at Mac 101 and Switch 101. There's a wealth of info there.

  • Controlling the default language for new business users

    Hi everyone,
If this has been answered elsewhere, my apologies for asking again.
My company is currently in the initial implementation of ByDesign (1405). I just migrated our employees into ByD using the migration tool. This went fine, and also created (inactive) Business Users for each employee.
One small issue I have, is that for each Business User created, ByD picked a "Default Language" based on the country where the user's organization unit is based (so Dutch for users assigned to an entity in the Netherlands, Danish for users assigned to a unit in Denmark, etc...).
This despite the fact that the only language we have configured in ByD during scoping is English. In fact, when you edit the default language on the business user record, the drop down only offers English as a choice.
Since this is our test environment, this is not a big deal, but I would like to prevent this once I migrate user to our production environment.
So: how do I make sure that the Default Language on each Business User created when creating an Employee is English? (I would rather not have to fix this manually for a large number of users).
    Thanks!
    Eelco

It applies to selected text. It is part of the text's style.
So if you want a document to be by default a particular language, make a template in which all the text and all the styles in the styles drawer are set to what you want.

  • HTML in EBAY for NEW MAC USER!  Please Help!

Hi, I am a brand new MAC user. Just bought a MACBOOK last week. Here is my HTML prob. I sell on ebay. I called apple support and they were not able to help me. When I list my item on eBay, HTML comes up in the description area. On my older PC it was regular readable english and NOT html gobble de gook. Anyone know how to switch over from the HTML junk so I can see the regular english and write about my product? thanks so much. Sorry, I am not a computer guru. I only know how to read email and sell on ebay

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Sounds like they are using non-standard HTML. Try using a different web browser*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/browser.html
Also verify it isn't your e-mail program that is open when you are viewing the file. Anything via e-mail which can't be converted by an e-mail program will display as just plain HTML. Look to the right of the Apple logo on your top left corner to see which program is active.

  • Throttled data for new heavy users??

HowardForums had a link to a this tidbit from a Verizon site.
Important Information about Verizon Wireless Data Plans and Features
As part of our continuing efforts to provide the best experience to our more than 94 million customers, Verizon Wireless is introducing two new network management practices.
We are implementing optimization and transcoding technologies in our network to transmit data files in a more efficient manner to allow available network capacity to benefit the greatest number of users. These techniques include caching less data, using less capacity, and sizing the video more appropriately for the device. The optimization process is agnostic to the content itself and to the website that provides it. While we invest much effort to avoid changing text, image, and video files in the compression process and while any change to the file is likely to be indiscernible, the optimization process may minimally impact the appearance of the file as displayed on your device. For a further, more detailed explanation of these techniques, please visit www.verizonwireless.com/vzwoptimization
If you subscribe to a Data Plan or Feature on February 3, 2011 or after, the following applies:
Verizon Wireless strives to provide customers the best experience when using our network, a shared resource among tens of millions of customers. To help achieve this, if you use an extraordinary amount of data and fall within the top 5% of Verizon Wireless data users we may reduce your data throughput speeds periodically for the remainder of your then current and immediately following billing cycle to ensure high quality network performance for other users at locations and times of peak demand. Our proactive management of the Verizon Wireless network is designed to ensure that the remaining 95% of data customers aren't negatively affected by the inordinate data consumption of just a few users.
And here is a link to the optimization process

Comcast does something very similar with their internet. They do it so users don't use the residential service for heavy business usage. Residentialservice is cheaper than business class.
They also have a meter so you know where you stand. Also, throttling does not continue into the next month. I just feel VZW should had been more up front about this BEFORE the preordering of the iPhone.
It will not affect me at all.

  • Change default security settings for new Discoverer users? How?

Hello, using Discoverer 10g with SSO integration.
I've created two roles and create in advance users in the DB user, granting them
one of the two roles. The two roles privileges for Discoverer are already configured.
This way, when I create the user in the DB before launching Disco, granting the user one or the other role, I should be all set about what the user can or cannot do on Discoverer (Plus).
    So far the theory :)
The problem is that the full permission given by Discoverer to each new user override the role settings, so each new user can do everything (instead one of the roles forbids saving and sharing, for example).
I have to go to Disco Admin and uncheck the "Plus/Viewer" checkbox for the user to make roles actually work as expected.
How can I set Discoverer user default as "Cannot do anything" on Plus/Viewer so that roles apply without further admin intervention?
    Thanks
    Mario

    Thanks a lot Rod.
The problem here is we need to allow portal users the ability to access Discoverer Plus without using Disco Admin: once a user is registered in the SSO, he should be able to connect successfully to Discoverer.
So we need creating user privileges on behalf of Disco Admin.
Tough job, but it seems it ca be done.

    Mario

  • Catalogs Explained for New LR Users

Because of recent questions by new users who have trouble conveying what answers they're looking for on some basic questions, I've cited below two sources of information that might help explain what the Catalog is and how files are stored in LR. It took me almost two years before I got this straight through reading bits and pieces on this forum and other sources. I also discovered later while teaching LR that it's very hard for someone just learning how to use LR to wrap their minds around the concept because it's so different from where most came from. In fact, if there was one single factor that caused folks to abandoned LR (and drop out of my classes before I learned to devote the whole first session to the Catalog), it seemed to be a lack of understanding of the file structure in relation to the Catalog. For those of you who want to learn more or refresh your knowledge try the following:
A long paragraph directly from the Help menu:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Lightroom/3.0/Using/WS057FA09B-F8B2-4cf3-AF66-D5DBF13F349F.htm l
A 23 minute video by George Jardine in the Adobe TV series that's one of the best complete explanations. Beware, it's for an earlier version of LR so the menus he shows are not in the same format as LR3 but the choices and info in those menues are the same.
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/george-jardine-on-lightroom/the-lightroom-catalog/

I would expect those new features are in LR 6 (non-CC) and that the way to start a download of the trial is to use Help / Updates and click the Download… button.
However, I have a CC subscription so I cannot test this theory because the download site is smart enough to know I’m a CC subscriber and just tells me to use the CC App to download the update, but it may work for you if you’re not a CC subscriber.
BTW, new features released after this initial version wouldn’t be added to the non-CC version until LR 7 comes out—that’s a benefit of CC, besides having Photoshop, you also get new features as soon as they are available.

  • Export isn't accurately displaying fonts for new Keynote (6.5)

    Hey guys!
I'm using special fonts in my Keynote decks, but they've suddenly stopped exporting correctly. Here's what I mean:
This is what my deck looks like in Keynote. But when I export to PDF it shows up like this:
It's still the same font (I think), but the formatting is way off. This is a new problem, as I've used the font before and the PDF exported just fine. Now when I go back to those old projects and export, the same problem happens.
Interestingly, the preview screen for the actual Keynote file also has the same weird formatting:
Any thoughts or ideas would be really appreciated. It's kind of urgent – I'm giving a talk tomorrow and I can't figure out a way to get them the properly formatted slides.

    Haha hey Mattan!
Had this problem too. Removing the .otf font from your library and installing the .ttf version of it fixes the problem.
    Cheers,

  • .Mac Alias  - Small Niggling Problem for New Apple User

    Hi,
I have very recently purchased my very first Apple computer - and yes, i am one of those life long MS-DOS/Windows users who have been lured by the ease and simplicity of the iPod (which apparently a lot of people are loath to admit, but hey, I'm not proud).
Anyhow, having got my nice new shiny system out of its box, and up and running, I set-up up a new .MAC account, and then set-up one alias, the thing is my 'alias' mail is not ending up in my .Mac mailbox, but my other mailbox which belongs to my broadband ISP.
Basically in Apple Mail ( I have OS X Tiger.10.4.3) I have an 'InBox' which shows everything from my two accounts, and separate mailboxes within : One called 'BlueYonder' who is my broadband ISP, and a second mailbox called '.Mac Mail'. IYSWIM?
Now ALL of the mail sent to my standard .Mac account address ends up in the .Mac mailbox, and the 'collective' InBox, but and here is the puzzle, any mail sent to my .Mac ''alias'' goes into the 'Collective' InBox and my 'BlueYonder' mailbox, but not into my .Mac mailbox!
I sent an email to the .Mac support team, and they said that it was either an issue with Apple Mailbox, and that I should look in here at the 'Discussions' or I have a Rule set-up.
Well I don't have a rule set-up except the one that was already set-up when I first bought my system. This is set to just highlight in Blue any mail from any 'Apple' address. No rules are set to move or change locations etc.
So can anyone,if possible please advise me what is going on with my mailbox and also how I can rectify it if possible please?
Thanks and all the best for the New year to you all.

Drusus - would be good for you to share your findings here. It might help anyone else with the same problem in the future.
    Thanks,
    Brocks.

  • Single  Sign on Issue for new Portal Users

We are implementing ESS on EP 6.0. the architecture is like EP 6.0 - ITS - R/3.
and we want to implement the single sign-on. so that when the users login the portal, the Portal Authenticates the user and then portal uses just the Portal UserID and logs in ITS/R3 without verifying the SAP PWD. Portal ID and SAP ID are same.
The single sign on is working fine for those users who already have an SAP ID.
we need to create new R/3 ID's for the new employees. and we don't wanna let the employees login in directly to R/3.
When we create a new ID in R/3 and login for the first time in R/3, it asks to change the password.
since the new employees won't be using R/3 and they login through portal and b'cos we implemented single signon, the portal tries to login in r/3 using the Portal ID/R3 ID, but the SAP R/3 ID is not actived since the user did not change the password, the SSO is failing.
We didn't wanna assign the R/3 ID a password. since it will be an audit issue.
Can anybody give any suggestions, so that the administrator need not assign a password and the users need not login in r/3 and change the pwd for the first time.
Hope you understand my problem, if u need any clarification, let me know..
    Thanks.

    Hi Gopi-
You can override the password check when a valid logon ticket is presented by setting the profile parameter:
    login/pasword_change_for_SSO   0
using RZ10 in the instance profiles.  (Requires a restart of R/3)
This overrides the password prompt/check when the user presents a valid logon ticket.
    Hope this helps you out.
    Thanks,
    Marty

  • Need query tool for new SQL users

We have testers that need to see DB data. Not all of them are well versed in SQL. At the moment, we are looking at creating reports for them in Discoverer and allowing them to create their own workbooks, however, I am not sure if this is the route that we want to go. Would any one recommend SQL Developer in this situation, or do you need to be well versed in SQL in order to use it?
    Cheers
    K

Well, in my knowledge, there's still no magical datamining tool. The more complex information you require, the more knowledge you need to be able to get it.
Or you make your users all reports they need, or they learn SQL.
Maybe sqldev isn't so bad; you could provide them like template reports, which they can then modify if needed. But bear in mind that poorly written queries at the end will return them wrong data and clog the database...
    Have fun,
    K.
