Quickest way to substitute values in a String...

I have a string that represents the contents of a html file. I want to substitute all the custom variables (shown as {value} ) in the String with a new value. I am using the Java REGEXP to find the start/end position of all the custom variables that need to be substituted. The start/end position and new value are placed in a Frag object. After all the REGEXP matches have been found i loop through the Frag objects and place the new value into the String (called template in code below)
String leftSplit = template.substring(0, frag.getStartPos());
String rightSplit = template.substring(frag.getEndPos(), template.length());
String template = new StringBuffer(leftSplit).append(frag).append(rightSplit).toString();My query is on the above 3 lines of code. I probably havent done it in the most efficient manner possible. Any suggestions? I expect to substitute about 20 values per file and there could be maybe 100 files that need processing.

I had a problem similar. For this i created a metod that generate the html code in the String using the variables.
For example:

I am reading from and xml file configuration file. The data being returned is stored as a String and corresponds to a Enum value. My question is - What is the best way to assign the enum the value that corresponds to value of the string?

If those were to be mentioned in the JavaDoc, they should obviously go into the documentation of java.lang.Object only.

But in this particular case a simple "note that enum classes have a syntetic valueOf() method that does foo bar baz" in the body of the class documentation would have been a nice guesture (especially since that part is pretty small here anyway).

Is there a way of calling out all values in a String to name an object?

Is the above possible?
As in the generic statement below,
[class name] [objectname] = new [constructor];
to be able to make the value of a String to be the objectname? such that if this instance
String s = "Peter";
Then the objectname will be Peter, as in
[class name] [Peter] = new [constructor];

you could do something like this:
String str[] = new String[10];
then you could get the value of a string from a user and place it in a String variable.
TextField text1 = new TextField ();
String nameofObject = text1.getText();
now you can do something like:
create a button to submit the new name and then check to see if the button was pressed. If the button was pressed, iterate through the loop and set the str array object equal to the value of nameofObject string. Do it something like:
str[0] = nameofObject;
now you should be able to refer to the newly created object as the string name entered into the TextField you retrieved.
That is just off the top of my head. I am sure what you are trying to do can be done.

Quickest way to edit long string of greetings

Hello all,
I've shot a long video where I am greeting Happy Passover to friends. It is a long video clip where I clapped my hands between one greeting to another. The final goal is to cut this long clip to shorter ones (divided by the claps). What is the quickest way to get this thing done? I thought about playing the video, marking every clap based on the visuals, and then turn markers to subclips. Is there a simpler/faster way?

I would edit the entire shot into the timeline then go through and remove the bits between each greeting (the bits you DON'T want in your final piece). In, Out, Delete (the delete key beneath Fn), Repeat.

Find and replace value in Delimited String

Hi All,
I have a requirement, where i need to find and replace values in delimited string.
For example, the string is "GL~1001~157747~FEB-13~CREDIT~A~N~USD~NULL~". The 4th column gives month and year. I need to replace it with previous month name. For example: "GL~1001~157747~JAN-13~CREDIT~A~N~USD~NULL~". I need to do same for last 12 months.
I thought of first devide the values and store it in variable and then after replacing it with required value, join it back.
I just wanted to know if there is any better way to do it?

There is not a chance in the world, especially not knowing column definitions that I, and I suspect most anyone else, is going to wade through this much unformated code looking for an error you couldn't bother to copy in full.
Either tell us, specifically, the line on which the error is occurring or, better yet, start whacking stuff out of your code until you find the offending definition. That is certainly what I would do. Commenting out sections is a marvelous way to quickly find an issue.

Naming an ArrayList using value from a String variable

I am trying to name an ArrayList the value of a String variable in this code:

ArrayList //i need a name here// = new ArrayList();
I want to use the String //name// that will be used when the method is called. What do I do? I tried using:
ArrayList (String.valueOf(name)) = new ArrayList();
That didn't work.

Its suppossed to allow the user to input the student's name, grades for 4 specific subjects. Then take that and organize the students by name alphabetically. It is also suppossed to allow the user to search for users by grades, like find everybody with a GPA of 3.7 or higher or find everybody with a GPA of 3.5. This was a project asigned by my intro computer science teacher. I was suppossed to make it with 2D arrays but that was lousy because you were then limited to a specific number of students without editing the code. I'm not familiar with all the different ways of doing this. My computer science teacher said that I could do it with a HashSet.
Okay. You have a String. Let's suppose it contains "fred" or something like that -- you didn't say what was in it so we have to speculate. Next, you want to create an ArrayList from that? What does that mean? You want to end up with an ArrayList that contains one entry, that string? Or what?
In your example I would want to start by giving the method "fred" as the name parameter. So right now the String (name) has the value of "fred". I then wanted to make an ArrayList for that student named fred. This ArrayList would have 4 grades for that student fred. This ArrayList for fred would be part of a HashSet for the whole group of students. That way when I wanted to search alphabetically, I would just sort the HashSet. My computer science teacher said this would work.

I created a webservice based on sql server 2005 with several methods successfully.
I am having headach now just trying to do some simple tests with Flex :-(
I used the "Import WebService", it created some code "generated webservices".
My test method p_SEARCH_NAME_SOUNDEX is based on a sql procedure wich take a varchar (128) as a parameter => NAL_NOM.
I am just trying to debug this function (error at line in red)

It passes the 1st step :-) but I get another error now :-/
I think it try to get back NAL_NOM_type1 from the server of course on the WSDL side it know only NAL_NOM

The startup.exe file is locate in the \NI-RT\STARTUP directory. 'cd NI-RT' then 'cd STARTUP' should get you to the right place after making the connection with ftp. I don't recognize PH_EXEC.EXE. Logging in as anonymous is fine. I don't recall seeing documentation on the file structure and locations on the module but I'm sure there is some. I just wandered around w/ftp.
The program to update the node should be below. Enter the IP address, the green light will confirm the node is found.
The version function scans the existing startup.exe for a string beginning and ending with " RU Version " and prints everything in between as the version.
The autostart function will copy the existing ni-rt.ini file to your computer, mod
ify the autostart as requested, then put the file back. Leaves the copy on the PC, which can be handy.
Send file will request a file of the format startup*.dat which will be renamed startup.exe and ftp'd to the module. Lets you keep version numbers in the filename on the PC side. Your directory structure probably won't match mine so you'll have to browse for your file.
Reboot module reboots the module.

Quickest way to spot QT movies.....and....?

Hello fellow Logic Users,
I was curious on the quickest way to accurately spot a QT movie in L8 or L9. Additionally, Is there a way to have multiple movies in one session, and can you output a QT movie with a new mix,right out of Logic?

Just use the menu "open movie" and then whatever you do with files in the Arrange window interacts with the movie time-wise. Pretty typical stuff.
There's no "spot" mode as such, like PT has, although you can snap to frames and if you have the "Options/Event Float" open (and set it to "time" rather than "bars") you can type in exact time values to exactly spot selected regions to timecode values.
You can only have one movie open at a time.
And yes you can export the audio from your session into the movie, and even select whether to over-write or add to the existing audio. Better than Pro Tools ;o)

Since J2me does not have a BufferedInputStream, it will help to implement it yourself. It's much faster since you read large blocks at ones in stread of seperate chars.
something line this lets you read lines very fast:

Rebuilding PC disk - quickest way to keep iTunes library?

I am going to rebuild the disk and system on my Windows XP PC today.
What's the quickest way to save & restore my iTunes library?
Can I just dump the folder "My Music" onto an external hard disk, then dump it back into the rebuilt PC ?

The following Apple article tells you how to use your iPod to transfer your library to another PC, which your new installation effectively is. You could easily substitute an external drive for the iPod.

This method involves just copying the iTunes folder. If you keep music outside the iTunes Music folder, for example elsewhere in My Music and you don't want to condolidate, then copy My Music. It is probably simpler to copy the contents of My Music on the external drive back into My Music on the new installation rather than replacing the actual My Music folder on the new PC. You could upset the registry setting for the My Music folder if you delete it on the new installion prior to copying the version from the external drive.
One point if you do have music outside the iTunes Music folder it is important to set up your account with an identical name to the one you are currently using. This is becuase the library stores the full path to your music files and if it changes, iTunes won't find files that are not in the iTunes music folder.
