Quicktime error 2048

I am having issues with trying to get MP4 files imported into Itunes.
After several attempts I did some experimenting.
I converted a DVD in to MP4 format and it will not load.
The complete DVD movie convetted to MP4 is 2.2gb in size.
This movie will not load into Itunes and also will not play with quicktime. quicktime gives a 2048 error this is not a movie format.
Took the same movie and made the file smaller, new file is 2.0gb and it will load and play in both quicktime and itunes.
Dont know if there is a file size limitation for Itunes and Quicktime.
Hope someone can come up with a solution for the 2048 error

  Windows XP

Since I posted this thread, I have discovered some things that might cause the error 2048.
As I memtioned in my first post the error I was getting was for a file that was 2.2gb in size. When I reduced the file size to 2.04gb the error went away. I also have converted 5 other DVD files to MP4 with out the error comming back again.
The 5 other files were less than 2.0gb in size. All files work fine in quicktime and Itunes and on my Ipod.
One other thing that I did was to take the 2.2gb file and split it in half and transfer it to my Itunes. This also worked as I could play the first half and then take a short intermission and play the second half.
It is my opion that Itunes and quicktime may have issues with files over 2.2gb in size.
Just my $.02 worth.

  • Quicktime error -2048 when trying to play.mov files.

I have been frustrated this weekend trying to find a solution to a problem that has only recently occurred accessing some digitised VCR tapes that had been archived on an external HDD. These are files that played back fine on my Quicksilver after I had recorded them, but now give a "Movie Not Available" message in Quicktime. However when opened in VLC I get a debug message box with the following information posted below. Any clues as to what might be the problem?
I recorded the files from my VCR using an ADVC-100 DA converter over firewire into BTV Pro which created .mov files (DV-PAL). When I try to open the files in BTV Pro, I get a message box "There was an error opening the movie. No Movie found. Error code 20,-2048" Did a search for this error and -2048 appears to be a Quicktime error, so am wondering if there is a problem with my installation of Quicktime. I have got all the usual suspects in stalled, Flip4Mac, Perian, VLC. Mpeg Streamclip but can't get the file to open. The external HDD is Mac formatted but I found some info about problems with missing resource forks in older .mov files causing problems if copied to NTFS HDD's.
Any ideas as to where to look next will be appreciated.

Well it used to work fine so I think so. When I try and run the installer you linked to I get a message saying that a later version is already installed- isn't it built into the latest QT releases? One thing I thought of- the original files I think were made on a mac so there were some resource fork files of 4K size. I deleted these as I kept trying to open them by mistake, but then after this trouble I dragged them back out the trash to the original location but it didn't fix the problem- could that have caused some sort of association problem?

  • Quicktime error -2048 when i try to open a video

hello, i have a bunch of different types of videos that i downloaded from limewire. in order for me to put those on my ipod, i need to open quicktime and go to file> open file and when i do that, i click one of my videos that are MPEG or MPG i try to open it but a little sign pops up and says
error -2048: the file is not a movie file how can i turn my video files into movie files? then how do i put them on my ipod after that? please help me

download VLC media player, it should be able to play files that quicktime cannot and with more fetures than quicktime pro for FREE (beleve it or not)!
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/vlcmediaplayer.html
you mentioned these files were downloaded from limewire, it is possible that they are simply currupt, limewire files (especially when they are not completely finished downloading) may not open. When they are 100% complete they may play no problem even if you are getting -2048 when they are downloading.

  • Importing a  .mov into imovie -quicktime error -2048

I recorded with imovie-isight (1,5Gb) , stopped recording, and then restarted powerbook without saving. After restart .mov -file was in trash-folder. I dragged file onto desktop, afterwards into movies-file. I tried importing, dragging, double clicking on file, with no result(imovie- itunes- quicktime) I get a error text: file.mov cannot be imported because quicktime cannot process file (-2048) (translated from dutch-the words might not be correct)
Can anyone help me to recover this movie? -osx 10.4.8/imovie 6.0.3 on powerbook 1GHz
    Thanks!
    G4-1,67   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The file was improperly "closed" and required data is missing from the file.
It would be easier to trash the file and start again than to try and "fix" it with a Hex editor.

  • Sd card failure!!error 2048-H

I had problems in reading my sd card!!The jpg files where after recovering them good but the movies(MOV files) i get the message from Quicktime error 2048:H.
What more can i do to get my movies in schape???

The computer will not recognize the card when connected.  I decided simply to reformat the card but the reformat function on the phone does not work.  Any other insight short of buying a new card?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Problems with a QuickTime movie file.  Error 2048 message

I am having problems with a QuickTime file.
The file is on a TDK 4GB pen drive.
I can access the file without problem directly from the pen drive.
I am using a Sony VAIO Laptop running Windows 7.
    QuickTime version 7.71.80.42.
When I transfer the file to a folder or upload to send via e-mail on Hotmail and then try to open it I receive an Error 2048 message - "Couldn't open the file.......because it is not a file that QuickTime understands.
    Any help would be appreciated.

You should be fine: a standard DVD can contain up to 120 minutes of video, but this includes menus etc.
iDVD is not concerned with file sizes, just length. It will automatically compress the iMovie file to the standard DVD format of mpeg2 - which is 4.7GB for 120 minutes!
I have once made a family DVD 115 minutes long, but after the family either protested or fell asleep, I have tried to keep them under 75 minutes!

  • Error -2048: Quicktime refuses to open Jobs iPhone SDK Presentation

    Hi,
I have had this happen to me during the special iMac event last summer and currently with the iPhone SDK event. I get the error message:
"Error -2048: Couldn't open the file m08770365506i_650ref.mov because it is not a file that Quicktime understands."
I have tried using Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari. Same problem. I tried reinstalling iTunes+Quicktime. I still get the error. Any ideas?
    Mike
PS I have screenshots if that helps

I was afraid of that.. :-(
Yeah... well, I've tried to import the files to iTunes, both through drag'n drop and by Files/Add to Library but nothing, zip, zero happens. Not even an error message appears. I have no problem with adding mpeg4 files but I get no reaction when trying to add the wma's...

  • Can't open Quicktime .mov file (Error -2048)

I can't open and run an 11mb QuickTime .mov file that was created, I'm pretty sure, on a Mac. I'm using a PC running QuickTime 7.2. Colleagues using PCs with QuickTime 7.0 and 7.1 can't run it either. The guy who created the file apparently has no problem running it on a Mac. My full error measage is "Error -2048: Coundn't open the file because it is not a file that QuickTime understands". Any ideas anyone?

Ask the guy that made the file what codecs are used in it. Mac users can open, save and edit .wmv files and he may have put one inside a .mov container. It will never play on a PC unless saved as .wmv extension.

  • I keep getting an error 2048 everytime I try to play back my Maya file that I saved as a qt movie. I just recently updated qt and this is when the errors would pop up. Before the update I had no problems. How can I fix this?

I updated quicktime a few days ago and now I keep getting error 2048 whenever i try to play back my Maya file after saving it as a qt movie. I had no issues with this before I did the update, after the update I keep getting the error 2048 message. QT will play my earlier Maya movies and other video, it just won't play back my latest work. Help me please, I need this for school.

The 2048 error message usually suggests the files use MPEG-2 format which is not supported natively on Windows via QuickTime without the additional MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20 from Apple).

  • Error 2048 under Windows 7 64bit when opening DNxHD .mov

    Hi people,
i'm experiencing a weird problem while trying to open a DNxHD encoded .mov file with quicktimeplayer under windows 7 64 bit.
getting the error 2048: "Couldn't open the file  because it's not a file that QuickTime understands."
filesize is 5,6 GB and im running Quicktime 7.7.5, the file was encoded using avid media composer.
Other (smaller, around 2GB) files from the same source and using the same codec will play back fine!
This file is running fine on my macbook (10.8.5), but will fail to play under windows 7 bootcamp or on my PC.
I've read about filesize-limits around 4 GB, is there some truth to that?
    thanks for your help
EDIT: i need to be able to play back the file with quicktime-components (not vlc or something like that)  because im working with protools, which is using quicktime for video-playback.

    Thanks for your reply nyc.
But the code i copied is in fact an extract of the USBDescriptors.c present in this directory.
If I try to execute this example, the result is the same.

  • Cannot open corrupted .mov file - error 2048 unsupported format

    Hi all,
I have an important corrupted video file and I have tried every way I can think of to open it, but to no avail...
When I open it with Quicktime, an "error 2048 unsupported format" shows up, even though other videos I took are fine.
I can't open this video with ANY softwares including VLC and friends (trust me, I tried LOADS of them)..
After doing MUCH research I understand that either the header/closing part of the file is messed up.
Is anyone able to teach me how to fix those parts?
I'm really at the end of my wits and I'm a just beginner to hex-editing @.@ Better still, if you are able to take a look at this video for me...
I'll be very glad if anyone can help me out with this as I really wish to recover the video, this is for an important friend, thanks in advance!
P.s. the video is about 120mb in size

    Hi
Im using the tool called SUPER.
Its free and you can convert any file format to any other file format
Maybe it would be possible to convert his faulty file to another format and ten you could try to open it again using VLC player or other application.

i try to play some videos with QT end see a mesage : error 2048  could;n play this file mod.oo1. my camera is JVC and before 1 year the QT is wos ok.

Older JVC cameras recorded in MPEG-2 format (.mod files) and QuickTime for Windows can't play them without additional software support (costs about $20).
Try playing them with the free VLC player, instead.

  • Applw error 2048

Hi, just uploaded QT pro and was trying import a 720p Mpeg to quicktime pro so I could format it to H264. I got the following error message Error 2048 QT doesn't understand the format. Whats up? I can export it though my editing software which is Avid Liquid 7.2 to a Mpeg 4 with no problem but my editing software when using QT wouldnt do it either. Any help.

I bought quicktime Pro and tried to convert 720p which is in the mepeg 2 format to H.264 and it wouldn't do it. I think H.264 is high def right? If I buy the Mpeg 2 software from apple will I be able to use that to format it quicktime? If not and I have to go to SD what compression gives the best video? Any help please jump in. Thanks.

Thanks again and sorry if this was already addressed.

I (and another people, see this thread - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2153482&tstart=0) seem to be having a similar problem. The only advice I got was to wait for a new update to QuickTime, but some people in the thread I posted a link to gave some suggestions that may help you.
