Quicktime player problems since installing Snow Leopard

Since installing Snow Leopard my Quicktime plays weird. The are sharp horizontal streaks and glitches where the picture smears (the only way I can describe it). If I restart or shut down and restart, that sometimes resolves the problem, but for only a short while.
Any suggestions from any of you pro guys out there?

Hi:
I'm not a pro, but I think I would download the OS X 10.6.4 combo updater and apply it. Something may have gone wrong with the initial update. Alternatively, I would reinstall OS X 10.6 from the software install DVD and then run software update.

  • Since installing Snow Leopard and Lion two weeks ago, my iTunes program opens seemingly at will.  It usually starts playing music, too.  What is causing this?

Since installing Snow Leopard and then Lion on my Intel-based iMac two weeks ago, my iTunes program seems to open at will whenever the computer is on.   It often begins playing music, as well.  What is causing this and how do I make it stop?

There are ways to minimize, mitigate, and help avoid a lot of problems.
    Bootable backups.
Zeroing a drive twice before using, and format it with SL DVD Apple Disk Utility for sure.
Even a clean install should import old apps without having to reauthorize.
If you must do an upgrade, do it from the SL DVD, after repairing the drive and be sure to use the SL version of Alsoft Disk Warrior (4.2).
Wait six months before jumping on a new OS.
10% is still too many. Yes, it is more sensitive to RAM and hard drive errors, doesn't like some controllers; most ext hdd cases; and enough software to make for test-only status. And it only IDs some known incompatible applications, drivers, extensions, etc and does not remove even those always in best manner.
Plus, there are problems with the new Rosetta and the cache files it now uses. So some apps and plug-ins will cause more trouble. Not all are ready. Good reason to hold off for the months it takes.
Other devices act different as far as on/off behavior.
(Migrating from G5s to Mac Pro can cause all kinds of problems, weird behavior, sluggish system, and why anyone that went down that road was strongly recommended to NOT use Migration Assistant for any of their applications, and to ONLY do clean/fresh installs of any apps. If you skipped that day, didn't read the Guide to M.A., or didn't want to do fresh installs then, your system could have been on borrowed time. If you did do clean install of applications, great.
Installing SL can result in a corrupt directory - I think and it "seems" to be happening, but no real proof, just gut feeling and instinct (underlying file system problem? weak sectors that pre-existed waiting to happen?).
Remember all the "there just aren't a lot of 64-bit drivers" for Vista and XP? it's come home to roost.
... my guess is not enough incense and offerings. To hop into TimeMachine and SuperDuper backup images and pull the 1TB for another day (week, month, year).

  • Why can't I open InDesign Docs in Bridge since Installing Snow Leopard?

I have CS3 Indesign. I have recently installed Snow Leopard. Since doing that I am unable to open Indesign files within Bridge. I get a very strange message that says 'missing required parameter 'from' for event open. What does that mean and can I fix it. If I drag my document to my desktop, most of the time it opens but sometimes it does not. I have to go up to the file menu and open from there. Is it a Bridge problem or is it an InDesign problem. Very annoying! Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?
Also since installing Snow Leopard, I am unable to open multiple files in Photoshop. Once again I am doing this from Bridge.
Any information would be most appreciated.

Does this older thread http://forums.adobe.com/thread/486185?tstart=90 solve your problem? Apparently, some characters are not (anymore!) allowed in file names.

    Sylvia,
There is a Office for Mac Product Forums, if now one here is able to answer I'd recommend posting on that forum.

  • Has anyone found a solution for fixing the dvd reading problems after installing snow leopard?

I installed snow leopard on my macpro tower and my dvd player will not read dvds. My archived dvd all come up blank but on my laptop their fine. All my other dvds are just spit out. I have seen hundreds of post about this in the forums but I haven't come across a solution. Apple told me they have never come across this issue which is disturbing to say the least.

    Leroydouglas
Thanks, I did see that thread and way too many others like it. My drive was working fine up to the minute I installed snow leopard and now I can't read all my archived dvds of the last 5 years of my work. Nor will it read the training dvd "New" that I just bought. It also won't even read the iwork disc that came with snow leopard. Of course all these disc work fine on my other make that didn't get the snow leopard upgrade. Apple support told me they never heard of anything like this. I took it to the apple store and they think it the dvd drive itself. Please, it plays cds fine and accepts new dvd media...some. Countless people have had their drives go out right after the snow leopard install.
I'm sorry but what happens to a dvd player or what hardware problem happens to only allow a player to read a few dvds but all cds. Could someone explain to me what breaks. Apple saying I need to by a new dvd player from them is crazy. Why do I get the feeling that if I install snow leopard on my other machine that the dvd player will also break. How also can apple not have any record of this happening to others.
I work with windows machines and linux boxes and Macs and I'm sorry I trusted an upgrade to a mac os that has been around for a while. If I would have checked the forums the way I do with anything I work with I guarantee I would not have upgrade to snow leopard after seeing all the people out their with this issue. It is also shameful that apple says it has no knowledge of this problem.

  • Why does my DVI to S Video adapter not work on my Macbook Pro since installing Snow Leopard?

The Apple DVI to S Video Adapter worked before installing Snow Leopard.  Now I just get a blue screen.

.wpl appears to be a Windows Media Player playlist. I can find no conversion software for that, and Windows Media Player is not available for Mac anymore.
If you can persuade him to download iTunes and create the playlist as mp3 in a iTunes playlist, or even just burn the base mp3 files to CD as a data disc, that's about the only solutions I can suggest.

  • Since installing snow leopard on my macbook itunes won't work

Since I installed snow leopard my itunes wont open it comes up with an error message   The fiel "iTuneslibrary.itl" cannot read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes,
Can someone help me through this.  Its very frustrating, I was forced to install snow leopard in order to download itunes 10, so that it would recongize my iphone.

Nothing should happen to the old content.  Still, you should make a backup first because once a month somebody claims something horrible did happen during an update and now they have lost all their music, their dog died, their car crashed, and they got a C- in English literature.  Oh, and it is all Apple's fault for not telling them they had to back up.

  • My airport on my old MacBook is not working since installing snow leopard.

I installed snow leopard last week and started having problems maintaining connections to wifi. It got to the point it was not connecting at all. I have tried all the suggestions posted on online forms to no avail. I finally reinstalled Snow Leopard and have the same problem. I find this very upsetting as I have bought uniquely apple products for the past 13 years. I buy only apple software and I think as a loyal customer I deserve better than this....

I have tried all the suggestions posted on online forms to no avail.
Please describe in detail all you have attempted to do in order to resolve the issue in case there were things you missed.
I think as a loyal customer I deserve better than this....
I'm a loyal Chevy car owner and I am treated no differently than a first time Chevy owner.  Apple is just like any other huge corporation, they treat all their customers the same.  Doesn't matter if you're loyal or not.
    Mac OS X (10.6)
Use Software Update to update your os and anything else that needs to be updated.  You are seriously outdated for Snow Leopard.

  • Problem with installing snow leopard 10.6.3... :(

    Hi everybody
I wanted to install snow leopard 10.6.3. After loading first, I format hard drive and and installing first, it fell in a loop! in each loop, you should install mac os x! and I can't eject DVD. please help me!

Are you using a retail version of the 10.6 DVD?
And what procedure did you select before formatting the drive? I just wonder if you were already booted into a previous version of OS X and then selected to run the 10.6 automatic installer (double-click the Install Mac OS X icon on the install DVD).
To eject the DVD you could turn off the Mac and then turn back on again and hold the mouse button or the Eject button on the keyboard.

  • Application crashes/pixelation and remnants since installing snow leopard

Since a HD replacement and installation of Snow leopard 10.6.1 I get frequent application crashes accompanied by partial or complete pixelation of my display including freeze of finder.
Or, if not a total crash, I am getting lots of remnants around open application windows..like partial window frames..in black about 50 of them something like [[[[[[[[[[[[[application]]]]]]]]]]]].
What is up with this??? Can it be corrected.
Last week Apple store replaced my HD and loaded it with Leopard..and it really hasn't run very well since then? All these problems started. Should I just take it back and say;;NOT GOOD ENOUGH!! FIX THIS MESS!!
Just wondering at the problems and mess that are taking more time than I can give.

    HI Gary,
*Should I just take it back and say;;NOT GOOD ENOUGH!! FIX THIS MESS!!*
    Try the following first...
Run the Apple Hardware Test from your iMac install disk. (Not the SL disk).
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
Also, check the start up disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space
    *get frequent application crashes*
If these applications are 3rd party, then try deleting them. They may not be compatible with 10.6.

  • No video preview since installing Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I feel like a new-be but since installing FCP 7 and Snow Leopard I am having problems.
Right now if I put anything in the time line the canvas viewer only show a blank white screen.
Can anyone give me a cue as to what is going on or what aI set wrong?

Go to System Preferences > Displays > Display.
Switch the Colors button from Millions to Thousands then back to Millions again.
Yes, it is Stupid. No, it is not a proper fix. But it works.
Also, just to cover all bases, make sure your Viewer and Canvas are set up correctly:

  • Quicktime Player 10 question following Snow Leopard upgrade

Have been very happy with running Quicktime Player Pro in OS Leopard, but have recently upgraded Leopard to Snow Leopard (10.6.8) which has resulted in Quicktime Player 10 version being installed and over-writing the previous version.
One of the reasons I loved using the previous Quicktime Player was the ability to go into 'cinema' view when viewing videos, effectively blacking out the whole background of the desktop but allowing me to control the size of the video playing in the foreground. Now to my dismay that control has gone which spoils the whole experience.
Surely it's not too difficult for the Apple programmers to display a black (or whatever colour the viewer wants) in the fullscreen background of the video being played, irrespective of the scale of the video being played back.
I'm also very disappointed that the Quicktime Player Pro option has disappeared, I now only have the standard Quicktime Player version 10.0 shown.
I don't think my request is particularly difficult to achieve, surely an oversight by the Apple programmers?
As a workaround, does anyone know of a way to play the video with a black background in either normal size, or double size in Quicktime Player 10?

    Hi QuickTimeKirk & AnaMusic,
Thanks for the info, I never thought of looking in utilities for the previous version of QuickTime Player 7 Pro (7.6.6).
One small additional question, now that I have QT 7 in the dock I can select it to play videos, but if I click directly on the video icon it opens up in the new QT 10. I assume that all the videos will now default to opening in QT 10, is there any way to change the default back to QT 7?
To any Apple QT software engineers reading this post, I think the new black layout is very polished, would just like the ability to resize the video playing whilst in full screen mode.
Two new features I would like for QT 10:
Full screen background option with the ability to change the background colour from the default black.
Be able to resize the video playing by dragging the corners of the video or using the cmd + or - keys.
Seem to recall that you could submit features/improvements to Apple for software and hardware but cannot remember the link to do so - anyone have the link to hand?
Once again thanks for your help.
    Rich

  • Can't print in Landscape mode since installing Snow Leopard

Since the installation of Snow Leopard 10.6.2 I can't print in landscape format from application such as Word, powerpoint, Turbo Cad, etc, on my network printer. This is despite changing my page set-up and printer settings My only work around at the moment is to print to a PDF document and print a hardcopy from there. Any thoughts...??

    Hi fruhulda,
1000 thanks for your help. I've tried everything you suggested. Nothing really fixed the problem except creating a new account. In the new account, I could open and use Pages documents I had created before I switched to Snow Leopard. And all of the functions seemed to work properly, including copy and paste.
In order to use my old, pre-Snow Leopard documents, I had to put them into a shared folder, so that I could access them from my new account. Does this mean I'm going to have to move ALL of my files from my old account into a shared folder, bring them into the new account, and make the new account my main account? If so, that seems like a lot of annoyance and a lot of work. Not that I'm blaming you--thanks for the fix. It just would have been nice not to have to start from scratch.
Also one or two worrying things came up when I did my disk repair, namely, the following two messages:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFramework/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Resou rces/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.
I did some looking around in old forums and other people have gotten these messages before and seemed to be pretty worried about them. I don't really understand what they mean, and I guess I'm wondering if I should be worried about them too.
Again thank you very much for your help so far.

  • IWork '05 will not work since installing Snow Leopard

I have iWork '05 and use Pages and Keynote. Since I installed the Snow Leopard update, when I open Pages all I get is the side toolbar and nothing else. I went to preferences and choose "open blank template" and then it says that it is "unable to open", and I tried using a template that I have created previously and that would not open either. When I choose "Open on Template Chooser" then nothing happens.
I can't get any files to open or new documents.
I am unable to install updates for iWork because I am running '05 and not '09.
    Please help.

iwork05 is not compatible with snow leopard. you need to get a newer version. iwork08 is available on amazon for 20$ used and 30$ new.
