Quicktime player screen recording not finishing

When I try to make a screen recording with sound on Quicktime Player, it gets stuck on "finishing..." after the video is recorded.  I'm working on a school project and really need to get this sorted out.  Anyone know how to fix this?

I can't help but wonder why they even botherd making the video recording software if they diidn't include audio .
I tend to consider such features add-ons because to appeal to novice users because the features are incomplete as far as functonality is concerned or too dependent on the CPU power of the platform on which it is used. This is why I tend to use dedicated import and/or screen capture applications. Normally, I would recommend using an app like Snapz Pro X from Ambrosia ($69) but they too are having problems updating or replacing their audio "kernel extension" following system audio changes made in the Lion OS release. ScreenFlow ($99) is another good screen capture app but it includes a number of editing features that many users do not want or for which they are not willing to pay such a high price. I personally amd looking at what, for me, is a new app listed in an article URL posted by QTKirk. The app is called Screenflick and lists for $29. I am interested in it because they claim you can tap into user events like key presses (e.g., use of keyboart shortcuts) and highlight/include them in your captures. (I.e., this would be very handy for the makie of "quickie" tutorials.) In any event, I have not tried this app so I can't yet recommend it based on personal use... but it might be worthing looking at if you plan to purchase such a utility. (And yes, it does claim to support the audio capture of both system audio and/or a user selectable mic source.)

  • Quicktime Player screen recording: 720p video is appearing as 480p max in Youtube

So I did a screen recording in QuickTime Player, after trimming I saved it to 720p in QuickTime Player. When I uploaded it to Youtube though, the max resolution I can select in the resolution options is 480p, so it's not as clear as my original.
I check the original video file and the resolution is 1160x648. So the video screen I selected to record was a bit short of 1280x720. Is that why YouTube downgraded it to a 480p video? Selecting an exact 1280x720 rectangle with QuickTime Player isn't possible for me. I can overshoot I guess and let QT player shrink it to 720p? Or is this some issue with Youtube and the mov file format from QT player?
To save me sometime, does any know how I can upconvert my mov video to the necessary resolution and/or format Youtube needs to support 720p playback at least?
    Setup:
    OSX Yosemite 10.10.2
    QuickTime Player 10.4

This feels like there is some sort of error during save but I was wondering if a) anyone had experienced this or b) knew of a fix.
    1) Have used the screen capture option in the past to, more or less, test how it worked. Unfortunately, my Snow Leopard system is currently tied up batch processing files so I can't re-check things at the moment.
    2) How long are captures and how much time are you allowing between terminating the recording and forcing the application to quit? If I remember correctly, this is a 2-step process. In the first phase the screen is simply captured to your hard drive. In the second phase, the data is converted to H.264 compressed video and written to the target file container. If you force the app to quit prematurely, the target file is never properly updated/closed leaving it empty and/or unable to be opened. As to the controls, they remain deactivated until all of the data has been converted/written to the target file or you force the app to quit. The amount of time required to create the target output file is, of course, directly related to the duration of the screen capture.
Suggest you try making a very short screen capture and see if the test file is successfully created. If it is, allow more time for the process to complete on its own with longer captures. If the process is not successful, try a similar test using a different user account to see if the problem is local to the user account or system wide.

  • Quicktime player screen recording prefs

    Hi,
Since the upgrade to Mavericks I noticed the screen recording file size has increased by a factor of at least 5.
In the Lion, I had the option to set the Quality from High to Medium, that option is missing now from the Screen Recording drop down options.
Looking at previous screen captures, I saw it used about 2.5 FPS, whereas now it uses about 60 FPS. That is most probably what's making the file size so big.
Is there any way to tweak those options, especially FPS but also the Sound (I need Mono and the default is Stereo).
    Thanks,
    Adrian

  • My Quicktime Player Screen Recording File is too big

Whenever I record a video it is too big. To test it out I recorded a 3 second video and it was 5mb. Please help I really want to screen record.

Too big for what? Can you record a full session without the Mac freezing or locking up?
You can record the file & recompress it afterwards to make it use less storage size if you want.
Evom is a simple tool for simple video converting …
    http://thelittleappfactory.com/evom/
Or you could probably use Screenflow (or iMovie) if you need complex editing etc…
    http://www.telestream.net/screenflow/overview.htm
Handbrake is another (free) option for compressing & converting video.

Just be aware that if the video is tiny it may be impossible to see what is going on, make sure your display settings make things big enough when you capture.

  • QuickTime's Screen Recording; Video AND audio?

Hi, I just now figured out how to use QuickTime player to record footage of my computer screen.
It works well, but the only problem is, that it doesn't record the sound from the speakers!
Does anyone know how to fix that?

    stuff man guy wrote:
no, i know that, but the thing is, there is no setting to just simply record the audio without the use of line-in to the headphone port.
If you want to record your computer's screen and internal audio, you'll need to use a third-party capture utility such as Ambrosia Software's Snapz Pro. QuickTime X Player, unless there's a workaround I've not come across, does not capture internal audio.

  • How do I set a fps rate in Quicktime's screen recording?

I've been trying to record my self playing League of Leagions on my mac with quicktime's screen recorder but my problem is that when I'm not screen recording I have 60 fps in the game, when I turn on the screen recorder and it drops to 15-20 fps. How can I fix this? I've already tried turning it down to medium instead of having it on high but that only brings me back to about 25 fps. It's also recording about 15-20 fps so even if I manage to play like this, the video still looks like crap.

I would swear that I used to be able to do this but in 10.3 I cannot. Of course I am trying to prepare for a big presentation right now so this means that either my memory created a fantasy or Apple downgraded QT!!

While the default behavior (file is saved locally in ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX/Data/Library/Autosave information/Unsaved QuickTime Player Document.qtpxcomposition) seems to work fine for users with mobile home directories, users with network home directories are unable to record on Mountain Lion machines.
I believe that by changing the default save location to a local writable space, we could avoid the issue, but the option to change the default save location seems to be missing.

  • Quicktime X player screen recording

    Hi,
I want to edit a screen/desktop recording done with Quicktime Player 10.0 with FCE 4.0.1. It doesn´t work. FCE fails to import the file. Quicktime says the file is H.264 encoded with a resolution of 1280x800. Does anybody has an solution for this?

    Hi,
no I don't want to use another editing application. I mean, an Apple application should be able to import what another Apple application exports, especially when it is based on the same technology (quicktime). iMovie can import it, but it has to convert it to 720p HD and it takes ages. Perhaps it has something to do with the new quicktime on 10.6, which is not used by fce(?), but that is just a guesss.
    cheers,
    thomas

  • Why is Screen Recorder not showing in Quicktime on Snow LEopard?

I need a screen recorder feature to record some  videos and presentations for uploading onto my website. With all the video and audio features included on OSX 10.6 I expected Quick Time Player to have a screen recorder feature - but no dice. There is no feature on the Quick Time menu. I have Quick Time Pro, iMove ( 09 and 06), the entire iWork suite, on an older MacBook (07) with plenty of RAM.
    I must be missing something.
Also - will there be sound with this feature? Or must I opt for another app and if so, which one? And where are there tutorials about how best to do this? THe need must be fairly commonplace by now.
    Thanks
    RA

Just found another post that tells me QuickTime Pro doesn't have a screen Recorder Feature. So can QT fromSnow LEopard be uploaded alongside Pro?

  • QuickTime X - Screen recording - can't import into FCP 7.0

Well, the title pretty much says it all.
I upgraded to Snow Leopard on my MacBookPro 2.4GHzCore2Duo4GB RAM. No problems.
I ran the new QuickTime X and made a short screen recording. Saved to desktop; I get a .mov file.
Ran Final Cut Pro 7.0 after recently upgrading to FCS 3, tried to import the screen recording, get error message "File error: unknown file."
    What's up?
The file can be read by iMovie '09, by the way - not that I would ever use that software.

Man, I'm wishing it were THAT easy.
I'm needing to do this exact workflow, and still can't find a way to make FCP happy.
    ATTEMPT #1:
First, I used QT X to make a two-minute Screen Recording. It creates a file called "Screen Recording.mov" in the Movies folder, with the file's dimensions being the same as my 23" Cinema Display (1920x1200). As we already know -- even though "Get Info" describes this file as simply a "QuickTime movie" using Apple's H.264 codec, something YOU'D THINK would be perfectly compatible with APPLE's flagship professional editing program -- it's not.
"File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown. OK"
    ATTEMPT #2:
So I quit the new QuickTime, and open the "Screen Recording.mov" file in QT7. I select "Export...", and I go with the default "Movie to QuickTime movie" option (which seems redundant, but the other choices in the pull down list don't look all that appropriate). I give the about-to-be-created new file a revised name, and then QuickTime7 chugs away for several minutes, converting the QuickTime movie QuickTime X created into a QuickTime7 QuickTime movie which hopefully the QuickTime-based FinalCutPro editing program will be gracious enough to import.
I really hope someone at Apple is taking note of how absurd this all sounds. And that would be okay, if when I then tried to Import this new QuickTime file into FinalCutPro 7, I didn't get the EXACT SAME (and typically unhelpful and uninformative) error message:
"File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown. OK"
    ATTEMPT #3:
Okay -- an "editable codec". So I once again open the "Screen Recording.mov" file in QT7. I select "Export...", but this time I click on "Options...", then "Settings...", and then for "Compression Type", I select Apple ProRes 422. Hey, that's gotta work, right? It's ProRes -- by Apple. The new codec in which everything's supposed to play together nicely. Why the Timeline I've currently got open is even ProRes422.
So imagine my delight when I try to Import this latest version of the file (now inflated from 140MB to 1.2GB -- but hey, at least it's gonna work)...
"File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown. OK"
Well no, it's not OK. And when FCP finally gets the top-to-bottom, under-the-hood AND interface overhaul this one-foot-still-stuck-in-OS9 app so desperately needs, maybe it will at least provide HELPFUL error messages, something like: "Sorry -- this file can't be imported because xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. You can use xxxxxxxxxxxxxx to convert its xxxxxxxxx setting to the required xxxxxxx, or you can try xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx in a new Timeline."
(And yes, I am a regular contributor to "Apple Feedback".)
Alright, venting finished. Would now be hugely grateful if someone could translate Apple's cryptic "-- 1 file(s) recognized --" error message into a real-world way to make what should be a straightforward process actually work: just save a simple screen recording, and then use that screen recording in a Final Cut project?
    Thank you!

  • Quicktime Pro Screen recording

I have purchased and downloaded quicktime pro but when I click on file there is only movie and audio recording. Screen recording is not there. Can anyone help?

    Can anyone help?
No. As indicated by its absence in the product description, screen recording is not a feature of QT 7. Use QT X instead.

  • UCCX 8.0 and QM 8.5 Screen recording not working.

    Dear Networkers,
We have UCCX 8.0 with QM 8.5 We're using Network recording mode.
Everything seems to be ok ! Audio recording is working, but screen recording stopped working !
I can't find why or how it should work again.
In fact, checked the proxy gateway security, configuration, ...etc and it seems to be ok.
In the daily folder i can see the .erec and .rec files. But i notcied when opeing the xml files the field :
      <keep_voice>1</keep_voice>
      <keep_screen>0</keep_screen>
From the log files, i can see the server start screen recording. So I think that the screen is not kept for some reason !
    Can you please advice ?

Hi screen recording is working fine and there was no issue with my configuration or workflows.
The only thnng that you should know, is that you will not be able to find screen records for the day : let's suppose that you started screen recording monday, inorder to see screen records, you need to wait for tuesday ! then u'll find the records.
u need to wait 24 hours to be able to see screen records for the previous 24 hours, and unfortunately it"s not configurable.
I had to open a TAC  with Calabrio to know it ! :/
Hope that this will help u.

  • QT screen recording not recording audio?

Can I record audio when screen recording? Are there settings for the quality of recording, etc?

Can I record audio when screen recording?
Depends on which app you are using and what form of audio you want to record. E.g., QT X can record audio via the line in or built-in microphone option but not the system audio. On the other hand, an application like Snapz Pro X can record microphone and/or the Mac system audio.
Are there settings for the quality of recording, etc?
QT X has two quality presets from which to choose. Third-party screen capture apps may have other options. E.g., Snapz Pro X allows the user to select any of audio and/or video compression options for which the system is configured for final output.
